MISADVENTURES ARE STANDALONE ROMANCES THAT CAN BE READ IN ANY ORDERWinning has always come naturally for stud ice hockey defenseman Gus “the Bus” Persson. On the ice or off, he’s never had any trouble scoring, racking up goals—and girls. As the best player in his rookie class and the number-one draft pick of the Malibu Suns, he’s taking his game to the next level and is justifiably full of … level and is justifiably full of swagger.
So why does one of the Suns’ ice girls treat him like he’s invisible?
Bo St. James doesn’t have time for rookie hotshots who think their gloves don’t stink. She knows them, she works with them, she trains them. It doesn’t matter that Gus Persson is the hottest newbie she’s ever seen. She knows his type. She’s got big plans of her own, and she’s not going to let some cocky rich kid athlete keep her from her goals.
But there’s a chemistry between them they cannot deny. A lust that burns so hot, it threatens to melt the very ice on which they make their livings. The game has changed for both of them. Together, can these two play to win?

Bo and Gus are wildly hilarious, charming endearing, and sizzlingly steamy. Bo had to learn some hard life lessons mighty early in her life and this has left her with a cautious and sometimes hostile view of the world. Not wanting to fall victim to the same mistakes she tries her darndest to avoid anything that remotely resembles her past errors. Gus Persson fits that bill in spades with his cocky attitude, hockey lifestyle, and good looks. A player in every respect, Bo refuses to be apart of whatever game he has going. Gus was instantly taken with gorgeous and fiery red head the minute he laid eyes on her. What he can’t figure out is why she seems to hate him on sight?! Her hostility and hotness though make quite the intriguing combo and soon Mr Hit and Quit It is doing something out of character – he is chasing after the elusive Ms St. James. He can tell she’s been burned and for the first time ever he wants to come the defense of something other than his hockey brothers. Getting Bo to trust and open up to him is going to take some patient and work, but he’s no stranger to the grind.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book.
This was my first Toni Aleo book but it won’t be my hockey romance loving heart’s last! It took me a while to get in to it – Bo was just so aggressively anti Gus for no apparent reason and Gus was such an unapologetic manwhore that I just couldn’t. But then there was a shift and I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. They were both so much more than meets the eye and even though I was able to figure out the big secret (as usual but it wasn’t really that surprising) it was such a unique reveal and the way it all played out was great. I also really loved the family dynamics between Gus and his parents and even Bo and her family. Plus Bo’s real name is a hoot enough to read the book just to experience that. And I liked the secondary characters enough that I would love to see books about Gus’ roomie and Bo’s bestie. As it is, I’ll definitely be looking to read Toni Aleo’s Assassin’s series ASAP! 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
Let’s talk about this book, shall we?
We meet August Persson, rookie hockey player playing his heart out in an attempt to get a spot in the big leagues.
Bocephus St. James is a student, trying to keep her nose to the grind and make something of herself.
She catches his eye one day but she has wants nothing to do with the cocky hockey player and the most amazing chase ensues.
I love Gus and Bo so much. Gus might have been a player at one point but we see the most amazing dedication from him when he sets his eyes on Bo. He’s loving, he’s patient, and he’s freakin’ hilarious. I went back to look at all of my highlights in the book and EVERY SINGLE ONE was something Gus said. Swoon.
“You know they call me the Bus. Nothing can knock me down. I do the knocking down. But with you.. fuck, Bo, you knock me clean on my ass.”
Bo was no doormat and stood up for what she believed, even when she was dead ass wrong. She gave as good as she received and the banter between them had me laughing my ass off. She made some mistakes growing up but learned from them to do better. The problem was that they left her jaded and gunshy.
Watching Gus try to win Bo was so much fun. I seriously laughed out loud through so much of this book and found myself re-reading parts over and over. I love that we get a love story with some witty banter and some hockey in the mix. Toni Aleo definitely knows her stuff and it shows. My one wish? THAT WE HAD MORE GUS AND BO.
“I never asked you to be honest with me.”
“You didn’t have to, Bo. I want to be. Because I want to be yours like you are mine.”
Read this. You won’t regret it, I promise.
This was unlike the other Misadventure titles I have read thus far in that I did not find myself invested in this title. I felt that the story started very slow and there was not much that drew me in. I felt that both of the main characters, Bo and Gus, fell a bit flat. I like when I feel like I would want to be a friend of the character that I am reading and these two characters, well I would have run away had it been real life.
I found myself enjoying the story later in the book, but that was when I was 90% through the book. I was saddened by the fact that I was finally starting to appreciate the characters because it took me so long to get to that place.
This story and its characters could have really made this book explosive had they revealed their personalities sooner and had the story divulged itself more quickly.
I am afraid that it just took too long for my taste.
This is my first misadventures book and I know very little about them. The first time I’ve heard about the misadventures book was when I attended RARE London 2018, they had free copies from some authors that were new to me. I’ve read Toni Aleo before, so I was definitely on board for reading this one. You gotta love Toni Aleo’s sports romance especially her hockey series!
Let me just start off by saying that I had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Gus and Bo. I couldn’t handle them at times throughout the book, but it gets better as you make your way through their story. Gus is definitely a cocky SOB and you’ll probably hate his arrogant self, it had me guessing how he would turn into someone we’d love. He starts to grow on you as you learn more about him and that it takes the right person to bring out his true likable self; that’s Bo.
I struggled a bit with liking Bo, she’s has a hard exterior dealing with mistakes she claimed to make in her past. After she thought she had the love of her life, he chose the NHL over her and she has never been able to get past that. Her walls went up never to trust or date anyone who plays hockey. It’s a hard reminder for her.
As Bo and Gus dive into something that’s supposed to be fun, feelings get deeper and things change for the both of them. But it’s a lot harder for Bo to just give in and take a chance with Gus even when he proves time and time again that he wants nothing more than her.
I didn’t like that Bo wouldn’t constantly use the pain of her past and the mistakes of another guy to pin things on Gus, it wasn’t fair to him when he did nothing. He’s had his bachelor days, sowed his wild oats, he’s a rookie, but is extremely great at the sport.
Although it wasn’t my favorite hockey romance of hers, I still enjoyed it. This book gets better as you keep you reading, I struggled with it in the beginning, but it was a happy ever after for the both of them. I was hoping for an epilogue because I need to know more!Toni Aleo
This was a great read and another hit in this wonderful series. Toni Aleo wrote a fabulous quick read that I could not put done. Bo and Gus are great together and have awesome chemistry. I was rooting for them from the beginning and I wanted to know what was in Bo’s past and you finally hear it at the end. I highly recommend this book and any of the books for this series.
Toni set up the perfect atmosphere for this book. The characters were fantastic and totally real. I loved the two leads together and they judt brought the book to life. I couldn’t get enough and I was so hooked from page one.
Holy mother of god this book!!!! gahhh I didn’t want to be done with it!! I fell in love with Bo and Gus from the very beginning! their story is so intriguing and beautiful that you will not be able to let go of the book! I loved the fact that the hockey side of it was so well written and engaging that it felt as if I was actually in a game while reading it! the love scenes were perfectly written with a sexy touch. As usual Miss Aleo gives us a book that will leave us wanting for more of her words when we finish!
Gus the Bus is cocky as hell. A pain in the ass but sexy as hell too! Bo is not going to fall for his lines.
Another great Misadventures book. The humor, the realness of this book keeps you turning the pages to see what these two are going to do next.
This is definitely another great addition to the Misadventures series. I wasn’t too impressed with Gus at the very beginning of the book, but I couldn’t put it down. Boy, am I glad I didn’t. He totally proved himself and is now one of my top favorite book boyfriends. I adore him!! And Bo, she’s such a strong character! Her determination is something to be admired! I loved this couple and their story. This is a must read!
I am not a sports fan, but I love hockey romance and Toni Aleo does it well. Gus and Bo have such a great chemistry and when she gets hurt and he pitches in to help her… loved that. The chemistry between them and all of the other characters just made this such a fun story.
I will admit I was a little leery about reading this book. I adore the author’s Assassins series. I have devoured each and every one more than once. So when I saw this was not part of the Assassins I actually thought twice about reading Gus and Bo’s story. I would have regretted it. I would have let myself down. Gus and Bo brightened my day. Gus and Bo burrowed into my heart.
I have a knew rating system–how long can I be distracted while riding a stationary bike. Today I rode 12 miles because I got sucked into this story. I didn’t pay attention to my pain (nine knee surgeries make for painful pedaling) because Bo’s obvious emotional pain was so deep. I can’t remember the last time I rode 12 miles. I can’t remember the last time I connected to so well with a story. What an amazing storyline!!!! What great characters!!!
This hockey romance hit the spot, like an exciting hat trick! Ms. Aleo knows her hockey players and this sweet, funny and sexy romance is no exception. But not everything is lighthearted, it has a huge bombshell that explained a lot of and only made me love the main characters even more! Filled with laugh out loud banter, this is the perfect read for a lazy afternoon.
Gus “The Bus” Persson has been drafted by his dream team, the NHL Twin Cities Tornadoes, but was sent to play with their farm team, the Malibu Suns, to get some more experience before heading to the major leagues. He has a manwhore reputation, one he takes pride in, as a “one and done” guy. When he notices the new, red-headed Ice Girl that’s been assigned to the team, he’s kinda shocked and left wondering why she has so much hostility towards him.
Bo St James has a semester left before graduating as a sports PT. It wasn’t her first career choice; she’s planned on attending Stanford, to be a doctor, but that changed unexpectedly. Something her mother never lets her forget. Bo has no time for players much less a rookie with a cocky attitude. She went through a painful and devastating relationship with a hockey player years ago, filled with broken promises, Bo is fearful of being hurt again and protects her heart at all costs.
“I’ve been really hurt, Gus, like bone-deep hurt, and I feel like you could do that to me. You’re too much of a distraction. At least this way, you walking one way, me walking the other way, there are no hard feelings.”
Both Gus and Bo have secrets, some that are more painful than others, and as these two spend time together Gus is determined to prove to Bo she can believe his word and his promises.
“I made a bad decision, and I can’t let it happen again. I know the warning signs, and you are one huge warning sign.”
I haven’t read a Misadventures book yet that I haven’t completely loved!
Add Toni Aleo, sports romance genius to the mix and you’ve got yourself a winner! So many lol moments! I kept turning the pages on my iPad and didn’t want it to end…
Cocky and arrogant Gus, sexy and plays hockey! Winning! Lol Bring in Bo, smart, talented, beautiful! She doesn’t fall for Gus’ charm right away…even if the attraction is off the charts!
If you’re looking for a well written, sporty, super fun read! Look no further, highly recommend!!!
It’s been quite some time since I last read anything but Toni Aleo, she’s one of the first authors I started reading when I purchased my first kindle and quite honestly she got me hooked with the hockey sport romance books.
Gus didn’t particularly sit well with me when I first started reading because he was presumptuous, arrogant and cocky as heck. I don’t like those types of men who think they are gods gift to women and they can and will get whatever they want whenever they want. I was kind of glad that Bo gave him one hell fo a time trying to woo her. She wasn’t impressed in the least with his good looks and his rich self.
But I gotta give it to Gus because he sure made quite an impression by hounding her down. He did everything in his power to get that woman and I guess that’s a lesson learned on his end because you don’t always get what you want when you want.
These enemies to lovers books always hook me because I love how they give each other hell even though deep down inside they’re dying to be with each other. But the banter back and forth is always catchy and makes you not want to put your device down because you need to find out how the tables turn and what prompts these couples to give in and say “screw it” and just go with what their hearts are telling them to do.
I absolutely loved Bo, she was strong and independent and feisty as heck.
Totally one Misadventure you don’t want to miss out on!
4 Stars!
My first Toni Aleo book and it is part of the Misadventure series and a Hockey story. I don’t know what took me so long. Toni Aleo is one hot amazing writer. I have fallen in love with the story of Gus and Bo. When these two meet it is far from love at first sight. Gus is a confirmed playboy, one and done. Bo is focused on school and work, no time for love. When these two finally “crash”, the heat is on and the ice is melting! I loved the humor and the emotions that Toni has seamlessly combined in this Hockey romance. I will be indulging in more of her stories.
Oh, what can I say? What a beautiful story filled with heartbreak, laughter, fun, sorrow and most of all…. love. The chemistry these two feel is instant and only grows stronger. You can’t help but fall for them immediately. The banter and playfulness provides entertainment you’ll want more and more of. Oh, and the secrets. You just don’t see some of them coming. This series is full of 5 star must reads and I’ve yet to be disappointed.

I am a huge fan of Toni Aleo’s and always always get excited when she has a new release!
Hockey + Toni = Awesome
Misadventures of a Rookie is no different. Although, the story started out a little slow for my tastes, Toni brought her A game when creating the characters of Gus and Bo.
I always enjoy a good enemies to lovers storyline and add in hockey and I’m hooked! I loved watching Gus and Bo grow closer over the course of book; I enjoyed watching them grow.
Indo wish we had a little bit more closure at the end with an epilogue (I always enjoy a good epilogue). Admittedly, not my favorite Toni Aleo book but still it’s still fun, energetic and worth a read! Cheers!
4.5 Stars
I totally loved this one. The characters were great. Now I will admit I wasn’t sure about Gus at first. I wasn’t a fan of his attitude in the beginning, but watching Bo reject him and put him in his place priceless. Gus quickly had me turning my opinion of him around. One of my favorite things about this book was the scenes with his parents. I loved the relationship they have. Bo and Gus worked. Bo settled Gus down and Gus brought happiness back into her life. Though it’s not all smooth sailing. I really enjoyed the humor, but I also liked that it had some serious intense moments as well. I felt it was well rounded.
