MISADVENTURES ARE STANDALONE ROMANCES THAT CAN BE READ IN ANY ORDERWinning has always come naturally for stud ice hockey defenseman Gus “the Bus” Persson. On the ice or off, he’s never had any trouble scoring, racking up goals—and girls. As the best player in his rookie class and the number-one draft pick of the Malibu Suns, he’s taking his game to the next level and is justifiably full of … level and is justifiably full of swagger.
So why does one of the Suns’ ice girls treat him like he’s invisible?
Bo St. James doesn’t have time for rookie hotshots who think their gloves don’t stink. She knows them, she works with them, she trains them. It doesn’t matter that Gus Persson is the hottest newbie she’s ever seen. She knows his type. She’s got big plans of her own, and she’s not going to let some cocky rich kid athlete keep her from her goals.
But there’s a chemistry between them they cannot deny. A lust that burns so hot, it threatens to melt the very ice on which they make their livings. The game has changed for both of them. Together, can these two play to win?

Five rookie stars! This book is everything you need to start loving hockey because damn Gus is so hot!
I have been listening to good things about Toni Aleo since the past months. Her writing messed up with my poor bookworm heart. She made me love hockey. She is too talented for her own good and I am so happy that I was finally able to read a book of her.
Misadventures with a Rookie is a wonderful piece of heaven. There is a wonderful story between the pages of this book. Toni Aleo delivered a stunning book! She combined the Sports Romance and hate-to-Love-Romance plus it has many funny and hilarious moments that made me laugh like crazy.
This book is a mind-blowing book that left me wanting more. The plot is refreshing and brilliantly intense. I was hooked from the beginning to the end. I devoured this book in one sitting. It was an emotional and intense journey that kept me at the edge of a heart attack.
The main characters have won a special place in my heart because their story was astoundingly beautiful and funny. The pull and the push between them was stupendously explosive. It was like watching a cat catching a small feisty mouse. The chemistry between Gus and Bo was pure fire. The intensity of their encounters made my skin hot and my cheeks were flushed all the time.
This is not the typical story were the girl falls for the sinful hockey player. This is about not making the same mistakes. Bo is a feisty woman. She is strong and had a bad experience with a rookie. He broke her heart. Trusting her heart to a man again is a forbidden game for her. She is now centred in her studies and her future but Gus will turn her world upside down. He will remain her that men are dangerous for her sanity. Her past tormented her. She should stay away from him but the attraction is stronger than anything she has felt before.
Gus is not a free game. He is a cocky hockey player who has big plans for his future. Ladies throw themselves to him. Women are a fair game for him until he met a feisty and sassy redhead. She is different in all ways possible. She seems to detest him. She intrigued him. She hates him but he also knows that she is attracted to him. And he will enjoy showing that to her.
I highly recommend you this book. Toni Aleo is such a talented writer. I am addicted to her writing from now on and I promise I am not going to miss any of her books!
Omg I was so excited to hear that Toni Aleo was writing a Misadventure book. And was even more excited to get my greedy hands on it. She didn’t disappoint, I loved it. Not gonna lie it took me a little bit to get fully into the story, and once I was I couldn’t put it down.
One of my absolute favorite things about reading one of Toni’s books is the humor, sarcasm at its finest.
Gus thinks he’s gods gift to women and I honestly didn’t like him a whole lot in the beginning. Thank god I kept right on reading because I absolutely fell for him. He’s cocky, sexy and one hell of a hockey player.
Bo is one of the Ice Girls for the AHL team the Malibu Suns part time while also interning with the team to be a Physical Therapist. And she can’t stand Gus, she’s actually a little discussed by him.
The connection between these two is instant, but nothing is never that easy.
I loved this book, Toni Aleo has this way with her words. She gets you so involved in the story that it’s over before you know it, leaving you wanting more.
Loved this book. You need to one click ASAP!!
I’ve read almost all of Toni’s books and have enjoyed most. This one did not disappoint. I loved the dynamic between Bo and Gus. They were so much to read. The way multiple dates ended was hilarious. Bo had a past that came with a secret. I was quite surprised at first when Bo’s secret was pretty obvious, but ended up loving how that played out. It just worked for me. Each characters relationships with their families were so real it was easy to relate to. My one complaint as the lack of epilogue. Loved the characters so much there needed to be more. I sure hope we see Bo and Gus again!
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
I have been a fan of Toni Aleo’s ever since I read Taking Shots. Misadventures of a Rookie does not disappoint. I couldn’t help but root for Bo and Gus to get their happily ever after. There are so many times I found myself laughing at the antics of Gus. As I watched the pages dwindle, I found myself reading slower. I didn’t want the story to end.
Thank you for another great book!!
Misadventures With A Rookie is another triumph for Toni Aleo. It’s got points of laughter, tears, romance, and it brings the heat along the way! Gus and Bo are two relatable characters who lead us through a story of the good and bad in life and relationships. It is a great read and you probably won’t be able to put it down once you start. Ms. Aleo has once again reminded me remember everyone has their own story to tell.

Misadventures with a Rookie by Toni Aleo was the tenth book in the Misadventures series by various popular best selling authors. They are all stand-alone books and can be read out of order. This was my second book of the series. It was a quick and fun read that was enjoyable and entertaining.
Bo St James was a college student that had multiple jobs to make ends meet. Two of her many positions included an internship and an Ice Girl for the Malibu Suns. The Suns were a farm team for the NHL’s Twin City Tornadoes. Bo was busy, kept her head down, her mind focused and stayed away from dating – especially hockey players. Been there. Done that. Barely lived through it. Not happening again – ever.
Gus “the Bus” Persson was a rising hockey star. He was arrogant, cocky and expected to be called up to the big leagues soon. He had a reputation with the ladies for one and done and no more. He saw Bo and wanted her immediately but for once there was someone that wasn’t falling all over him and the challenge was accepted.
Aleo took us through the chase and beyond. She also slowly unraveled Bo’s layers as to why she was so hostile towards Gus. We then learn that Gus had a few nuances of his own. It was also humorous – between Gus’s family and the ER scenes, they were a trip!
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was a sweet read, but I confess, I wanted more at the end. It definitely needed an epilogue – but really I could have used a few more chapters or even a follow up novella. I loved the characters and I wanted to see a little further into the future. Furthermore, I would have liked to have seen where the object of Bo’s conflict was now. No spoilers, so no elaboration but I would think it would be pertinent to Gus being in the NHL. Another story for another day.
All the Misadventure books are stand-alones and I can’t wait to read more.
This is my first book by this author and loved her style of twist, turns, hot sex, and excellent conflict. I also loved the short bits of humor – I was driving while listening to the part in the ER with the doctor and the unicorn snot lube and just about ran my car off the road because I was laughing so hard I couldn’t see. The dual narrators do an amazing job with this story, too. A completely enjoyable story with great characters who obviously belong to each other.
So this was my second read from Toni Aleo. And let me tell you that I wasn’t disappointed at all. Toni have out done herself again with Gus and Bo. To me this was rom-com. I would definitely recommend it to everybody. Definitely worth 5 ****** and more.
Misadventures with a Rookie was a great read by Toni Aleo. Gus is a star hockey player who is the best player in his rookie class. He is not used to any woman acting like he’s invisible but that’s exactly what I’ve Girl, Bo, does. She has goals and she knows that Gus can get in her way big time. But neither one of them can deny the chemistry that they have between them. I can’t wait to read more by Toni Aleo.
3.5 Star Review. Gus was a pleasant surprise of a hero, Bo was the typical melodramatic “I’ve been hurt in the past” heroine. The story flows really well though I’m not fully sure about the timeline other than it’s during hockey season and November is mentioned. There was an element to the story that plays a semi important role that I didn’t expect based on the summary of the story that almost made me DNF, but it’s kind of part of the plot twist, so I don’t want to spoil anything.
When I first started “Misadventures of a Rookie” I was thinking it was going to be one of those light hearted fluffy romances. You know, the kind that makes you laugh your ass off while making you sigh with blissful contentment at the same time.
Yeah. I was wrong.
Shit. Fuck. Damn. I was so freaking wrong.
Oh I sighed in blissful contentment alright. I also laughed so freaking hard that I…one, snorted, (more than once) in an very unlady like manner (thank goodness I was alone in the car when this happened) and two, I laughed so hard I freaking cried. The Tears ROLLED
But and this is a big freaking but… even though I was all blissfully content and I laughed my ass off, I was also wrecked.
Wrecked as in … “where in the everloving fuck did all these damn feels come from?” As in “No! I wasn’t prepared for this!”.
That kind of WRECKED.
Fucking Gus and his adorably sweet ass. The fucker made me all weepy and shit. Made me feel all the fucking feels.
The dude made me fall hard.
Then there was Bo. Chick had one hella attitude. She was hilarious and I just loved how she gave Gus a run for his money.
These two had killer chemistry.
By the way, I listened to the audio version of this book, and the narrators freaking killed it.
Misadventures of a Rookie was not only heartwarming but also a pure delight to read.
The hockey gods are smiling!
I love hockey romances that actually have hockey players playing hockey! This enemies to lovers offering is exciting, funny, and exciting! I loved it so much! This has got to be one of the greatest hockey romances I’ve ever read. Beau and Gus are a great couple!
I was very hesitant to start this book. So hesitant that I waited so long to start it!
Hockey is not my thing at all. I have no interest in hockey at all.
I’m so glad that I gave this book a chance. I was not regretful!!! I was so invested in this book from page 1 until the very end. I loved the whole story of Bo and Gus. This book showed a side of Gus that most books don’t show for men. He was vulnerable and was truly heartbroken over Bo. I personally felt so bad for him. It was kinda nice to see the roles reversed.
Bo And Gus were so cute together and the story felt very realistic. Even though it was a shorter book, I still found that it had just enough storyline to keep it a standalone. It was beautifully written and flowed so well.
Ego vs heartache. Can love conquer all?
Bo is trying to rebuild her life after she gets knocked down hard. She has sworn off men and just wants to study hard toward success. He
wants to play hard and have fun. But he wants to have fun with Bo. He works at wearing her down in and out of the ER, where they find themselves often. This is a sizzling and funny love story that comes with a few surprises. I love this couple and their story.
The witty banter in this book is phenomenal! I loved it beginning to end. That Bo is a firecracker and just like she became enamored with Gus, I did, too.
I have read a lot of the books in the Misadventures series and when I heard we had one featuring a hockey player, I had to read it!
The start was a bit of a rough sell for me. I was like, wow, one Misadventures I don’t care for. But I continued to read on.
Gus is a manwhore. Cocky, arrogant, sex on a stick, etc. Such a player! I felt the same way our heroine, Bo, felt about him-utter disgust. Then as reading progressed, Gus was slowly changing.
Bo is a fiery chick herself! I know why she was so bitter and defensive. Noone wants to feel like they are getting screwed in life everytime you turn around! I found her dynamic with Gus intriguing and enlightening. They ended up being kindred spirits which needed the other for balance.it was endearing to see.
This was a good entry in the Misadventures series. It was sweet, sexy, funny, and overall very entertaining.
I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this book from NetGalley. The rating and review are my personal opinion.
FULL DISCLOSURE: Back in the day, I gave this author a try with her Assassins series and I made it thru, I think, about four books or so and I couldn’t do it any more. I can tell you at the time, her style wasn’t for me. The books were predictable and way too wordy. That’s just a concise update, because it’s been years. Okay so I love the Misadventures series a great deal. Every book has been a hit for me so far so I thought … why not? Well, I’m glad I did! I can’t say I will go back and read some older books by this author, but moving forward, I won’t automatically say no. So kudos for that!
Okay, so honestly, our leading peeps are hard to like LOL They both come across as ridiculous lunatics. I wanted to slap them both on more than one occasion! But who am I to judge? Lol Their journey is what I liked the best of all. Overcoming the crazy so they could have a healthy relationship together. I liked how the author unfolded all of it. I guess what I’m trying to say is that you’ll probably not like Gus and Bo very much but you’ll like their journey. And isn’t that really what’s important?!
Another excellent addition to the Misadventures series!
Oh my god. OH MY GOD!! This book, this book was just everything I feel so emotional right now after finishing this beauty, sappy, ugly, happy tears just wow.
I just want to start by saying Toni Aleo did an absolute flawless job on Misadventures with a Manny. It’s not often a book hooks me as much as this one did. It’s not often that I’m whipped away from reality and completely invested in a book that I actually forget everything and everyone around me. It just blew me away and I’m completely in awe.
Lincoln and Vera are everything. I loved their story and would absolutely want more from them! Their kids, their lives everything was so on point. Although there was heartbreak and sadness I wouldn’t change a thing about it as it led them both to where they are now and I’m so happy with that. In a way these characters are similar yet so different which makes them work so perfectly.
Vera being made to feel the way she did because of her ex is just awful, he’s complete and utter trash and needs to get punched by a baseball bat in the balls repeatedly so he can’t procreate anymore, that twunt.
Lincoln, that man is what every woman deserves. He’s kind, caring and absolutely adores Vera. He treats her with respect, he shows her she’s worth more than what her ex says and the amount of love her had for the kids amazes me. He’s an incredible human as is Vera. She’s so strong and beautiful and god, I love that woman so hard, absolutely amazing!
I can’t say this enough but Misadventures with a Manny is an absolutely incredible read, one of my absolute favourite books of this series. It’s everything I hoped it would be and more.
Misadventures with a Rookie is a sweet, sexy and swoony tale that will score a special place in your heart! I really enjoyed meeting this pairing, their journey was filled with lots of bumps, but with all relationships you always have a few bumps to maneuver around to find the good stuff… and they had lots of good stuff to be discovered!! Their story had many moments that left me smiling and saying “oh my”, moments that had me fighting back tears and of course lots of moments that left me blushing too!! Definitely one of my favorites from this author to date, highly recommend!!
A wonderful read you will like it there are is a love hate relationship and very hot
