Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

I love a story when the main couple click, you know they are meant to be together at all cost.
Carson is set to marry Kendra, but it has nothing to do with love. He is trying to save his company and marrying Kendra is the only way her father will help Carson save is company or he will lose it.
So Carson has to find a way to get out of this wedding and what better way than being in love with someone else. So in comes Ella, someone he met several months ago at a friend’s party and he can’t forget her.
Carson comes up with a plan to fool Mr. Shaw but can be and Ella pull it off? Will they be able to act like they are in love without each other getting hurt in the end? Will Kendra find true love after her wedding to Carson is called off?
I loved this story and love Shayla Black too. Her writing style is all her own and worth reading. I hope you enjoy this one too.
Love the story, not sure I like the narration
Carson makes plans to have Ella jilt him so he doesn’t have to marry a woman he doesn’t really like in order to secure a loan from her father. He hires Ella to play the woman he loves. As always happens when fake relationships happen, things develop. Both of them fall for the other. Steamy, sweet, a little conniving on someone’s part, and a HEA. I love the book. I wish they used duet narration or simple didn’t try to pretend to speak as the opposite sex when they are reading their chapters. The voices kind of drove me nuts. So that spoiled it a bit for me but the story held me until the end.
My first Shayla Black book…and so happy she got in on the Misadventures books. It almost seems as if this would be hard to believe, but I could see it happening. A leap of faith. 5 stars Shayla! I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Very creative story, you can’t help but fall in love with Ella and Carson.
I had so many scenarios playing in my head of how the couple would over come Shaw’s “master” plan. But not one played out how I thought it would end.
I absolutely love all the misadventures series.
Wow. Misadventures of a Backup Bride was wonderfully written. It had beautiful story, and characters were amazing. Shayla has definitely outdone with herself. I absolutely loved it and definitely recommend it.
Misadventures of a Back Up Bride was a great read by Shayla Black. Carson inherited a confectionary that brings in billions of dollars, unfortunately he doesn’t have enough money to last another sixty days. His late father’s rival agrees to give him a loan but he needs to agree to the catches in the loan agreement. Carson must sign over a permanent stake in the company to him and marry the man’s daughter. Two weeks before the wedding, Carson tells his investor that he doesn’t want to get married. The investor tells him that if he still walks down the aisle than he can still get the money. Carson approaches Ella, an actress he met once before, to be his fake wife. Their chemistry and attraction isn’t something that they can deny. I really enjoyed reading Carson and Ella’s story and I can’t wait to read more by Shayla Black.
I really enjoyed this sweet book. The Misadventures series has caught my eye for a while but I finally picked one up. Carson has ended up in a position he never saw coming he inherited his father’s company with some complications. The only way out isn’t a road he wants to travel so he comes up with a brilliant idea a fake love interest to get out of his impending wedding.
Ella remembers the sexy friend of a date gone bad but when she is told the plan she is hesitant to accept. She needs the money and she wants to see where this will go with Carson.
This was a quick read but it the story was great. The endings was super sweet. If your looking for a cute love story this is a must read.
Cute story, unlikely as it is, but totally swoon-worthy.
The misadventures books have all been fun, light reads and this is no different.
MEHHHHH!
I started this book with high hopes. The beginning of the book done a really good job of reeling me in. The middle of the book was kinda ‘eh’ and the ending was surprisingly shocking. Overall, I did not really care for the whole point of the story. I personally thought it was very unrealistic and also rushed.
I could not quite understand their thinking or logic about really getting married after knowing each other for a few weeks. Ella was so unsure of marrying Carson throughout most of the book and miraculously she decides to marry him at the last second. Realistically, that would not go down like that. This wasn’t one of the worse books I’ve ever read but it also wasn’t the best….It was simply “MEH”
I love the entire concept of this Misadventures series, so I can’t help but grab them when I have time for a quick read.
This is a bit of insta-love, a bit of sweet, sexy, and fun. It’s a light, fun read when you don’t want anything serious or deep.
If you’re looking to find love by hiring an actress to play your girlfriend, well, this could be the book for you!
This is my first Misadventures book. I was hesitant to read this series because I thought the books were too short to have a good storyline but I’m glad to say I was wrong. Even though the first couple of chapters felt like Ella and Carson were moving way too fast,by the end of the book it seemed perfectly natural that Ella would go from being almost a complete stranger to backup bride in only a few weeks. This book will keep you wondering what’s going to happen with our protagonists until the last possible second! I’ll definitely be reading the rest of the Misadventures series asap!
From faking it to feeling it, Shayla Black delivers a cute little story about an actress playing the x-rated role of her life. You don’t want to miss it!
This is a wonderful, sweet story with all kinds of sexy goodness. The end had a pleasant twist, as well. Love conquers all
Misadventures of a Backup Bride was sweet, sexy and so much fun! This was my first read by this author and also from this series of standalone novels. I’m not usually a fan of novellas, but I found this one to be very entertaining. I am so glad that I decided to take a chance on it.
Carson Frost unexpectedly inherited his father’s confectionery shortly after his passing. Due to some poor decisions made by his cousin, the company is in a bit of financial trouble. Unless he can secure a loan pretty quickly, all of his father’s hard work will be lost. A longtime rival steps in and offers him the money that he needs, but with one hell of a catch. Carson must marry his wayward daughter.
Two weeks before they’re due to wed, he realizes that he just can’t do it. He claims that he’s in love with someone else. His investor is surprisingly still willing to help as long he walks down the aisle with this woman that he loves. But where can he find such a woman on such short notice? He suddenly remembers the woman he met six months earlier when she was out on a date with his friend. She had mentioned to him that she was an actress, so he decides to give her a call.
Ella is down on her luck with work and desperately seeking some cash. When Carson offers her money to play his fake fiance, she jumps at the opportunity. She remembers who he is and how attractive she found him to be. She quickly finds out that he felt the same way, so playing the part is a piece of cake. The sparks and chemistry between these two is fiercely hot. Will they be able to convince everyone what they have is real and not some elaborate scheme?
There is a lot packed into this relatively short story and things move rather quickly. I found it to be quite addicting and enjoyed the twists that were thrown in. I loved the dynamic of the relationship, and the secondary characters too. All in all this was a great read and I look forward to more from this author in the future.
Another entertaining story by a favorite author.
Fun to read. Thanks.

My Opinions on Misadventures of a Backup Bride
This is my first time reading anything written by Shayla Black, and I absolutely loved it.
First off, I absolutely adore the cover. I think those shoes are to die for and I wish I had some in my closet. Also, I find the color scheme to be easy and fun to look at. What do you think?
Second, I find the characters likeable and relatable. I can totally emphasize with Ella. A working girl working towards her dreams but she is not the ideal body type. Thus, she struggles to get jobs and pay rent. She is very average and down to earth. If we met somewhere, we could be friend. Then, there is Carson. Of course, he is hot, but he also has personality, worries, and concerns just like in real life. He is just not some brooding hot guy to fill up scenes. The way they interacted with each other was cute and charming. I found myself rooting for them throughout the whole book.
Third while the plot wasn’t a new idea (I have read countless romance where someone has to marry someone against their will to save something) Ms. Black added enough twists and turns and nuances to make the read light and enjoyable. Her writing style had me engrossed in the story and left me wanting to read more.
Thank you to the publisher, Waterhouse press, for this book. This is my honest opinion.
This was a great spin on Pretty Women minus the hooker part. Then you a add a great spin like a already being engaged to another women and her dad basically having you by the short hairs. This made for a great read
To save his father’s company, Carson has to go to the rival to get help. Though there is a stipulation and that is, he has to get married to his rival’s daughter…that is unless he can find someone to marry him.
Ella is an aspiring actress who needs money. When Carson calls her out of the blue and tells her his plan, she jumps at the chance all the while telling herself to keep it professional.
What neither of them know, is just how far they will have to go to make this work.
Carson Frost has inherited his father’s confectionary, “Sweet Darlin’.” Sadly, he is too cash-strapped to last another sixty days, even though his company racks up billions in profits. So he decides to seal a deal with his late father’s rival, Gregory Shaw; there are two catches, however: Carson is forced to sign over a permanent share in his company, and he must marry Kendra, Shaw’s daughter.
But one thing becomes blatantly clear: Carson and Kendra are nowhere close to coming married. So he decides to do what any sane man does two weeks before his wedding- claim cold feet and tell Shaw that he is in love with another woman. But Shaw isn’t having it, and tells Carson that he has a week to not only show him the woman who stole Carson’s heart, but also marry her.
That’s where Ella Hope comes in. As an actress and as someone who needs rent money, she is willing to do any gig. But when Carson comes to her with his scheme, she’s a little hesitant about breaking his heart at the altar. While playing “the perfect couple,” both Ella and Carson realize that their chemistry and intimacy isn’t as fake as either of them want to believe. Neither one of them can help but fantasize that the other person is meant to be and that they will live happily ever after. But once everyone has what he or she wants, will they want each other? Or will it be sweet and heartbreaking goodbyes?
