Mirror Sacrifice (Dark Legacy Series, Book Two) is the second book in this paranormal academy adventure. It is a good addition to the storyline. Things get more complicated and more to come in the series.
Winona Owen brings Sierra’s character to her own and her intonation is well pronunciation. Smooth and easy listening.
Where do I start. The story starts off right where the other ended. I think I hinted in my first review that although the first story kinda ended there were plenty of unanswered threads left and guess what??? There still are, however and this is a big however, the author uses this t keep the intrigue and lure open and dang it she does an amazing job of it. I hung on every word every action.
I wanted to make Pia the bad guy and hate her but dang it I couldn’t because she was really cool. Then of course I wanted to hate Cooper but then I loved him and just wanted to make him feel better and then well you’ll have to read for yourself. Suffice it to say this has an intense little triangle going on and I am really really interested to see what happens next. Gavin needs to get his act together and may be too late. Lorna can’t be trusted even when she makes promises they come with a price.
There’s secrets and lies, assassins and prophecies. One things for sure, this is an awesome series and a wonderful introduction to this author for me. I am completely enthralled by her characters and even when shes all girl I love the strength and courage Sierra continues to show throughout it all and I have already cued up the next book in the series to devour.
Sierra and Gavin decide to go to London where Sierra will start her training to improve her Fluidus powers and also in hand to hand combat. Using her powers will drain her and she will need to depend more on hand to hand until she is stronger.
When they arrive in London Gavin is sent on a mission with his ex Pia. Young beautiful women that look alike are being murdered, Gavin and Pia are both good at what they do and are determined to find the killer. They were given the assignment because they are the best at what they do.
Sierra is worried about Gavin working with Pia she thinks that with them spending time together then she may lose him. On the other hand, she was worried about losing him before she met his ex. She thinks that their relationship may not work with Gavin being so distant and not putting much effort into the relationship. She feels as if she is giving more than he is and she is getting tired of trying so hard. Gavin has a lot on his mind and lets his past get in his way of having any kind life or future with a woman or even being able to move forward with his life. While in London he comes face to face with his past and a lot of his questions are being answered.
Sierra meets another guy, Cooper while in London that is helping her train to use her powers. Sierra is starting to have feelings for Cooper but it is bothering her that she could end up cheating on Gavin. It is so much easier with Cooper because he makes it that way. Gavin wants to protect her and keep her safe but he doesn’t want to let her be her own person while Cooper wants to protect her as well he does but he also encourages her to do what she wants and be her own person.
What I liked about Mirror Sacrifice was seeing Sierra train with James and become stronger. I also like when she had to fight the seniors at the Academy. I also like seeing her learning to use the elements against other people. I like Sierra and Cooper as a couple but through the whole book, I kept having this little feeling that something seemed off about Cooper. Is he a shady kind of guy? What is in his past? I would like to see more of them together and I do hope I am wrong about Cooper. I hope their relationship can become stronger.
I think anyone who likes a good romance with a little magic and mystery thrown in will love Mirror Sacrifice. I would suggest that you read the first book in The Ardere Series Fluidus Rising before reading Mirror Sacrifice as you don’t want to miss a thing.
Mirror Sacrifice by Margo Ryerkerk a five-star read you will sacrifice time for. This is the second book in the Ardere series and I would definitely say read the series in order as this one does follow on from the last but this one takes place in London. The POV flows well between Gavin and Sierra and we get to look deeper at Gavin and find more of his story and what a story he has to tell. Sierra continues to be a character that you will want to stand alongside and take names with while she kicks behind. You need this series in your life.
It’s getting better and better! This second book of the Ardere series shows us Sierra growing stronger as a character and learning, training her amazing supernatural powers both.
So many twists and turns action packed. At some point it seemed a bit slow but then as a blast come another revelation which turned my guessing upside down which is really good!
I really loved Mirror Sacrifice and want to go straight to the next one anticipating more surprises!
* I was gifted, a copy of this book from the author. Below is my honest/blunt review of the book*
First off Thank you, Margo, for another great read!
The second book in the Andere Series didn’t lose steam or heat! So Sierra is now in London with the Elite. Training her fluidus powers as Culpatus are trying to close in on her.
Gavin has to deal with his past while on a mission in London.
This was a great read, the romance I wanted to blossom did, the infatuation that I felt that needed to be put on the back burner was. I love it when that happens.
Sierra really was able to really show her colors in this one, those around her let her shine then hide her away.
I enjoyed getting to know Cooper alot in this. I was very happy to see him on the stage in the second book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who read the first book. If you haven’t please do so you can read this one.
I really enjoyed book 2 I guessed the twist right at the beginning, when Sierra attended the Ball, but it didn’t detract from from the tension for me at all
The European Regent, Lorna, seems to hold a lot of secrets. Many seem to be for power but I think some are for people’s best interests. She seems like a consummate politician but I fear her closest advisors may not have her best interests at heart!!
Gavin & Sierra have pulled away from one another. He refused to let her ‘in’ & she refused to ‘settle’ for just a part of of him!! His self loathing & condemnation of himself & others is not an attractive character trait I’d have slapped some sense into his idiotic self if I was Sierra or even Pia, his ex from school. She is a strong Charmer, they’re working together to try & solve the Murders in Knightsbridge!!
Sierra has been training hard & learning a lot about herself & her powers whilst Gavin is in London on the murder case. She’s coming along in her training really well. Unfortunately Gavin doesn’t treat her any differently, still babying her & making her feel less than his equal!! Cooper has become a strong influence & a good friend. He listens, talks openly, encourages her & makes her feel safe as well as being a worthwhile part of the
Ardere!!
I loved the the Prophecy reveal & all it has the potential to mean The dreams that Sierra has been painting were fabulous clues for those that hadn’t guessed who it was about at the Ball Although my ‘feeling’ that her Mum may turn out to be the leader of the Culpatus Umbra, it seems I wasn’t so far off
I found I wasn’t missing the humour in this book as much as the last. I think that was down to my own preconceived expectations of this genre rather than something lacking in the writing, so my bad
I don’t know why but I don’t trust Cooper, I can’t help it!! He’s doing everything right where Gavin is doing everything wrong BUT I get an impression from him that he’s quite bitter, that it’s much deeper than just his family’s rejection of him being a Blur or that he’s lost out on relationships to Dragoons. Blur’s seem to have a fairly poor History, I think that it stems from that!! Hmm we shall see
I really enjoyed this book. I’m glad Sierra put Gavin in his place & refused to put up with his attitude & lack of respect of her wishes. I just hope she doesn’t rush into anything with Cooper, purely because I think she needs the time to continue to learn about her past & who she is!!
I can’t wait for book 3 to see where the Author takes us next. I’m hoping the book will be full of pace & more intrigue, as she seems to write this very well
