The sound of his voice resonated through my core, vibrating like he’d plucked a tightly wound string running through me from head to toe. My head snapped up.
“I parked in the middle of a dump thinking it was just a nice little cul-de-sac, perfect place for some shut-eye,” the voice continued. “I woke up to grunting noises and opened my eyes to six grizzlies eating garbage all around my truck.” He laughed and the sound warmed me all over.
A new scent drifted my way – pine trees and sawdust, and him. I gripped the table at the sudden wave of desire that coursed through me. I turned around to face the voice.
He was shucking his coat and laughing while he told Phil his story. The table of men lifted their beers to welcome their friend and I heard a few of them call, “Nathan! Welcome home buddy!”
Nathan.
I was half-hidden in an alcove. The Sea Dog had many such nooks, modelled after a ship like it was. I stared at him from the shadows.
He was wearing a simple zip up cotton sweater, jeans, work boots, and a baseball cap. The clipped beard and the hair curling out from under his hat was the colour of copper. His cheeks were flushed and pink from the crisp autumn air. Nathan doffed his cap and threw it on the hat rack beside the door. He had broad shoulders, long legs and arms, a lean stomach, a broad jaw, straight teeth, big hands… my eyes took in all of this biological information and then moved to his expression. His face communicated a kind heart, a sweetness not seen in most male faces. He greeted each of the men at the table by name and with genuine care. He shook hands, slapped backs, and even hugged.
Here was a man who could love and father my child. Here was a man I could love.
Nathan turned a chair backwards and sat down facing his friends, laughing and talking.
Phil slung Nathan’s canvas jacket over the back of a chair and looked around. He spotted me. “Mira, do you mind pouring Nathan a pint? He likes the bitter.”
I came to life. I went behind the bar, took a beer glass, and pumped the tap the way Phil had taught me. I filled the glass carefully, ensuring the head was just the right size. I walked over to the table to deliver the bitter, my eyes on Nathan alone. I couldn’t have looked elsewhere if I had tried. I had found him. I was in shock at how quickly it had happened, but there was no denying it. Nathan was my guy.
Nathan saw me in his periphery as I set his beer on the table in front of him. He turned and looked into my eyes. My heart thudded painfully like I was trying to swallow something lodged in my chest.
My mother’s voice played through my mind: If there is a man alive who can resist the call of a siren when she’s got her sights set on him, I haven’t met him.

Returning (#1) 5
I loved this book. I actually started my adventure with Born to Water. It’s Mira’s daughter’s story. Coming back to the beginning has been wonderful. I really like Mira. She’s a strong, intelligent and very adaptable individual. I’ve gained more insight into Mira’s personality. For as much we are lead to believe that sirens don’t have a lot of human emotions and feelings I felt that Mira had quite a bit. More than Mira allows herself to believe she has.
My heart went out to her while she experienced the flash backs from years ago.
The start of Mira’s adventure has some good twists and surprises in it.
Falling (#2) 5
This was a charming and heartwarming sequel. Mira has a bitter sweet reunion with her father. She learns some things she didn’t know before and ends up having to make some tuff decisions.
I love how Mira and Nate’s relationship develops grows. They are a great couple. The ending holds a couple of surprises for the two.
Surfacing (#3) 4
It was heartbreaking when Mira and Targa lost Nate. To see both of them struggling to come to terms with that loss. Although the oceans call is strong Mira’s love for her daughter is stronger. Surfacing is well written and does a great job transitioning Mira’s story to Targa’s story.
Now that I’m all caught up I can’t wait to start Born of Aether.
Wow a Fantastic read. I love Mermaids and this Box set is fantastic. Mira is on her own after loosing her Mother can she accomplish what she wants to accomplish. The Story building is Fantastic. I love how the Scenes are written so well that the Characters just jump out at you. This is a real page turner that is definitely a must read and would make a great TV Series or Netflix. This is more than a 5 star read. And the Narrator does a Fantastic job.

Returning: A Water Novella. After reading Born of Water: An Elemental Origins Novel, I welcomed the chance to read Mira’s story. WOW, another incredible read, perhaps even better than Born of Water.
Falling: Previously titled Returning, Episode II (Mira’s Return Book 2). WOW, another incredible read, perhaps even better than Born of Water.
Surfacing: A Water Novel (Returning Book 3), my seventeenth read from author A.L. Knorr. I’ve been given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Gabra Zachman’s talented narration adds to the well-written book’s enjoyment. Extremely well written, the characters, even the minor ones, are well developed with an attention-grabbing storyline. I’m a character reader, I get into the characters. Who and what they are. Why they do the things they do. The things that make the reader get invested into the characters and thereby the story. I’ll be reading more from this author! Another must-read book! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
A mermaid came to life! Do not miss this!
This was such a treat to read. I read for almost 10 hours and in three days am sad that it is over.
So excited there is the next series I can get into.
Mira was so believable as a character I can hardly believe she does not exist. World needs mermaids like her. I adored her change from a young girl in love to a strong mother who sacrificed everything for her daughter, even with the constant call of the ocean. I actually learned a lot about ships, oceans and salt properties. The introduction of the other supernaturals in the first book was exciting. Her mermaid voice power is awe inspiring.
What a mermaid story. Mira’s story starts good and goes to fantastic! What a easy reading storytelling series. Loved the daily life of mom, Mira and daughter, Targa. This series is the top of the chart and one I would read again and again. Great writing!
