When he starts falling for her, the agent’s death seems an impossible obstacle–but it’s also the last thing he needs to think about. As the terrorist plot targets Kiley’s family, the two are pushed to the breaking point in a race to save countless lives.

I love a good suspense or police procedural novel. I have read a couple of Susan Sleeman’s book, so I was familiar with how she writes. With Minutes to Die, the heroine is definitely a brave woman who struts across the pages of the story. Sometimes a little too much. The hero, Evan, is remarkable that he would want a woman so forceful. As for the plot, it was a terrorist plot that has been over done. It could be just be, but I’m not really interested in thrillers that have terrorist trying to destroy our country again. Too close to reality might be why. Sleeman is a wonderful storyteller who really shows how the police work and what they actually have to do to stop something as horrific as a terrorist threat from happening. I enjoyed the inside look. I enjoyed the race against the clock. I enjoyed the plot as it twisted and turned. Overall, Susan Sleeman’s newest book Minutes to Die is a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. I believe that fans of Janice Cantore and DiAnn Mills would enjoy this story.
I received a complimentary copy of Minutes to Die by Susan Sleeman through Bethany House Publishers, but the opinions stated are all my own.
I always look forward to Susan Sleeman’s mystery thrillers—exciting, filled with suspense and the latest investigative techniques, and a clean read. This one did not disappoint. Minutes to Die deals with the threat of terrorists, only those trying to stop these radicals aren’t sure exactly what they may be planning or where the destruction affecting millions might occur. FBI Agent Kiley Dawson and her elite team rush to investigate and unravel any lead to find the dangerous suspects. However, the players and the locations are intertwined with various ones around the US. Since their target date is 9/11, this is a perfect time to read the novel. Its intensity holds to the very end. This is the second in a series, but stands alone too. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Susan Sleeman’s RED team returns, and this time, they are in a race to stop a terrorist attack worse than 9/11. And this time, one of the ladies on the team takes the lead.
Kylie is intelligent and tenacious but with a heart seeking justice for the murder of her CI. When the team’s investigation brings them to Washington and the man Kylie blames for the death of her former partners, things get even more personal.
In Minutes to Die, readers race from one side of the US to other along with her characters in an investigation that is intense and deadly. Sleeman has a knack for making me feel like I am part of her teams as they uncover evidence and get closer to their suspects without giving anything away until the perfect time. Add in plenty of romantic tension between Kylie and Evan, and this was one book I devoured.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
FBI Agent Kiley Dawson was meeting with her CI Firuzeh Abed when the unthinkable happened–Firuzeh was killed while Kiley was on the phone with her boss. Firuzeh had just told Kiley that she uncovered a terroristic plot that would be as bad if not worse than 9/11. Kiley had come to realize, while working with her, that her tips ALWAYS proved to be credible. So Kiley was determined to get her and her family into WITSEC. Unfortunately while on the phone with her boss to make the arrangements is when Firuzeh was killed. Evan Bowers is an ICE agent that has been brought onto the JTTF, Joint Terrorism Task Force, he had previously worked with Kiley on a case that ultimately resulted in her partner getting killed.Evan really hoped that they would be able to move on from that previous case and forge a good working relationship. He is not sure that will be something that happens though, Kiley still has not been able to forgive him but God can move mountains all day long…if they are open to Him doing that. They have a case to solve, and they must come to grips with that.
Thank you Ms. Sleeman for allowing me to participate.
Minutes to Die is Susan Sleeman’s second book in her “Homeland Heroes” series. This is a book filled to the brim with excitement, strong characters and lots of danger and suspense. FBI Agent Kiley Dawson and ICE Agent Evan Bowers are teamed up together once again. They had previously work together and one of their team was killed. Kiley has secretly blamed Evan, so she is not keen to be partnered with him again. Kiley has received info from one of her informers that there will be another attack on the anniversary of 9/11, that will kill millions of Americans. Can they find the perpetrators in time? As time rolls on toward 9/11 anniversary, you will be holding your breath reading as it all unfolds. Loved the Christian thread throughout the book and also the budding romance as Kylie learns to trust Evan again……….Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!
What an adrenalin rush!!!! From the very first chapter to the last, I was completely locked in to the story! In fact, I had to remind myself that this story wasn’t actually happening – that it was fiction! My heart was pounding so fast a few times that I had to take a break and slow it down! This author knows how to write suspense and this book is quite the example! A terrorist plot that is supposed to kill “millions” and the RED team is supposed to find out what it is and where within days. I just couldn’t image how they could do it – they have so little intel on who, what, and where. It gave me a whole new appreciation for what our federal agents do all the time. We don’t know half of what they do to keep our country safe. I liked the main characters, Kiley and Evan too. They had history, although it wasn’t all that good, but they were able to overcome it and work together on this challenging case. There was a lot going on but there would be in a case like this ad Kiley’s RED team was amazing. I was fascinated by all they accomplished. You don’t have to read the first book to know what is happening in this one but you’d understand the characters a little more! I highly recommend this book! I couldn’t put it down!
This book was so captivating, I really enjoyed this book the author has a way of drawing you in from page one and keeping you there till the end. I loved Kiley she jumped in with both feet and nothing was going to stop her from finding the truth. Evan he was more in your face but he also sought the truth and would stop at nothing to find it even if it must mean coming face to face with the past. I really enjoy reading about this group of characters and can’t wait to see where the author goes next. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.”
Minutes to Die is a fast paced, well written romantic suspense. A plot that will pull you immediately into the action. I couldn’t put this book down, it is a real page turner. I received an advance book from the author/publisher and this is my unbiased review.
Don’t even think about starting this if you don’t have time to devour it as you will hate putting it down. I found the research impeccable and felt like I was more knowledgeable when finished. Ms. Sleeman is a master at suspense that has you on a thrill ride and when you throw in that added pleasure of romantic tension you have a top notch winner in your hands. This is Book Two in the Homeland Heroes Series and you will not want to miss a moment of these characters. I can’t wait for the next one. I loved the forgiveness aspect contained within the pages and how sometimes what we perceive as truth isn’t reality. Sometimes when you read a book it is hard to describe so therefore I will say it is like being on a roller coaster and the feeling of anticipation followed by the building of the thrill followed by satisfying elation. A definite must read.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher/author. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
If I let it go, God, then what?
I’m a slow reader and for once I was glad about that. It gave me more time to embed myself with Kiley, Evan and the RED team. They’re on an adrenaline-laced assignment with very little time to figure out the logistics of who, what, when, and where a monumental terrorist attack is going to occur. Time is ticking and the big question is will they save millions of lives or not?
The analytical and problem-solving techniques incorporated in this type of investigation boggled my mind. I had a hard time keeping up with the ins-and-outs and everyone involved (there are a lot of characters) but still gained a new appreciation for what our federal law enforcement officers might go through and the sacrifices they make to keep us safe. I can’t imagine having to coordinate something like this and the immense pressure each team member is bound to be under while optimally performing their duties. Sleeman has created a dynamic atmosphere that kept me completely ‘on the scene’.
I’m looking forward to Mack’s and Addison’s story in Hours to Kill and the conclusion to the ongoing Montgomery Three case that began in book one, Seconds to Live. If you enjoy contemporary romantic suspense incorporated with faith themes of trust and forgiveness, I definitely recommend Minutes to Die.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Conversation between me and my husband:
Hubby: “How’s your book?”
Me: “Shh! There’s been a shooting. I think she may not make it!”
Hubby: “What page are you on?”
Me: “First chapter.” …
Yes, it’s pretty intense. And, so well written too! My face as I’m reading:
I liked that the author did the research for this book and it’s very realistic. I loved seeing the “behind the scenes” thinking process. I realize that it is a work of fiction but it definitely gives you something to think about. There is so much going on that we don’t know about.
PROFOUND!
MINUTES TO DIE (Homeland Heroes Book #2) by Susan Sleeman is PROFOUND! This novel tells the story of FBI Agent Kiley Dawson and the Red Team tasked with the biggest case of any of their careers. They have discovered terrorists have been smuggled into the United States and are planning the biggest attack since 9/11. Kiley is the first woman to be leading such a high profile team so she is already placing extreme pressure on herself. The Team has a new member ICE Agent Evan Bowers. Kiley and Evan worked together on a previous mission that resulted in the third member of their Team being killed. Kiley has always blamed Evan for what happened. Evan is the best at what he does so they need him so Kiley must find a way to work with him so the whole Team will be able to function at 100 percent. And to complicate things even further, the two of them were beginning to grow very close prior to the loss of their Team member.
Susan Sleeman has long been on of my favorite authors. She keeps you on the edge of your seat with excitement and keeps you up way into the night reading one more page, chapter, etc. Also, Sleeman always goes the extra mile in her explanation of police procedurals. In MINUTES TO DIE, she has the Red Team digging and going far beneath what is superficial, external, or obvious in their pursuit of putting the pieces of the puzzle together and thwarting the plans of the terrorists. Sleeman certainly makes readers stop and think of the possibility of our vulnerabilities and the dedicated Law Enforcement Agents that work day in and day out to protect us. This was a very informative read.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Bethany House Publishers. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
A nail biter from page 1! The Pressure is on.
The covers in this series are striking. The silhouettes are very James Bondish and the title, MINUTES TO DIE conveys the urgency of the story.
FBI agent Kiley Dawson and ICE agent Evan Bowers haven’t seen each other since an operation went bad six years ago. They are thrown together when their present cases converge. Ms. Sleeman does a great job of showing the tension in their reunion and how each of them has grown in their faith in the interim. Not only do they have to overcome old hurts, the current situation ramps up when a threat looms towards the anniversary of 9/11, just days from the start of the book.
“Kiley didn’t know if they could even find the target, but God knew, and Kiley closed her eyes to pray for divine intervention in a situation that seemed impossible.”
The plot of a terrorist threat is not new but Ms. Sleeman brings a fresh slant to it when she gives us a look at how things work on an inter-agency task force. : “Everyone in the room knew the clock was ticking down faster than their answers were appearing, and the pressure was nearly unbearable.”
Don’t miss this book if you want to read authentic, up-to-the-minute suspense about law enforcement agencies with realistic characters. This book is very well researched.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher on behalf of the author. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
Minutes to Die takes readers deep into homeland security investigations. The Red team is comprised of several different agencies responsible for tracking down terrorists and keeping Americans safe. Kiley Dawson heads up the investigation as all signs point to a massive terrorist attack to take place on the anniversary of 9/11. Her team races the clock to find the suspects and stop them.
This is the second in the Homeland Heroes series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Kiley teams up with ICE Agent Evan Bowers. He’s also an explosives expert, and naturally sparks fly between Kiley and Evan. They have a past together and Evan is the last person Kiley wanted to team up with. But they try to put aside their conflicting personal feelings to focus on their high stakes mission.
I loved the action, suspense and intensity this story brings. Millions of lives are on the line if Kiley’s team doesn’t unravel the terrorists’ plot and get one step ahead of them. This is a great book for fans of investigations – readers get an intense look at the Red Team in action. This is a must read for fans of high-adrenaline action and suspense!
Overall: 5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense: 5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Can you imagine knowing there’s going to be a terrorist attack, but not the players involved? The “when” you have an idea of, however, it’s the “where” it will happen that’s the hardest? So many possibilities, so little time.
The characters in this book are pulled together to figure all of this out and they only have a few days to do it. The clock is ticking and at times it feels like they are literally running to find the answers.
I love books where I learn a lot of things and this book was packed full of fascinating things regarding a world I really don’t understand. I’m not familiar with the dark web, but I do know it’s out there and a very real thing. I’m also not familiar with many of the agencies out there that keep us safe. This book is packed full of that information. I was blown away with all the many pieces it takes to stop a terrorist.
The way the author has written this book will keep you on the edge of your chair. I was captivated from the very first page until the end and I thought I knew what was going to happen, but NO, I was wrong. My heart was pounding throughout most of this book! Boy, can this author twist things around so you really must finish the story just to breathe!
I am loving reading Susan Sleeman’s books! They are packed with suspense, intrigue, action, and some twists and turns along the way, plus a bit of romance. (Okay, wait . . . maybe a little more than a bit! I loved the tension between Kiley and Evan!)
The two main characters in this story learn important lessons that will change their lives. Wow! This was a great second book in the Homeland Series! This book is part of the series but can stand alone. However, if you haven’t picked up the first one, I’d say grab it for another fantastic read!
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a good procedural book. It shows the steps that are taken to find the terrorist. There wasn’t a lot of action until the very end of the book. I recommend to everyone who likes a good mystery.
I was given this book by Bethany House Publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Minutes to Die by Susan Sleeman
Homeland Heroes Series Book Two
ICE Agent Evan Bowers is making progress on a possible terrorist attack. It’s led him to a port in Tacoma. What they find is shocking enough that the RED team is being called in. That means someone from his past that dislikes him. He figures he’ll be thrown off the case.
FBI Agent Kiley Dawson has just been given information of a terrorist attack that will kill millions. Her CI is murdered in front of her before she has the information she needs. Kiley is determined to find the killer, for the murdered girl. Suddenly, the case moves from DC to Washington State…and to a man she has refused to forgive for six years.
Old guilt and grudges need to be set aside and Kiley and Evan work together. Nothing is more important than stopping these terrorists. It ends up that Evan is a valuable member on the mission. With God’s help, maybe they can leave the past behind and accept forgiveness and that God is in control. Page-turning, heart-pounding story from the first page to the end.

This second book in the series belongs to FBI agent Kiley Dawson and ICE agent Evan Bowers.
When a terrorist attack is identified, Kiley and Evan are put in charge of the mission.
But these two have a history . Kiley blames Evan for the death of her former partner, and the animosity towards Evan is evident. While Evan carries the guilt of his bad call.
As they are faced to work together and the danger increases, so do the feelings.
Will they be able to stop the terrorists? Will they survive the danger ? Will they each go their separate way or will they allow the feelings to develop?
This was an action packed story with interesting characters and a subject matter that is very real.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and the publisher. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
3.5 stars
“I’m always reminded of God . . . But tonight. After everything. Minutes from death. It reminds me He’s infinite when life is finite.”
Minutes count.
After receiving disturbing intel from a confidential informant, who was summarily dispatched, FBI agent Kiley Dawson quickly activates her team of elite professionals to track down members of a terrorist cell who have devised a plan to put millions of American lives at risk. The FBI knows when, they just don’t know where. When Kiley’s case happens to intersect with ICE agent Evan Bower, she determines to push aside their differences long enough to appreciate what Evan’s highly trained skill set has to offer. Furiously pursuing every possible lead, the agents crisscross the country . . . . meanwhile the timer continues to tick, and Kiley’s determination to shut out any latent attraction to Evan, begins to disintegrate.
The title alone should alert readers to the fact that this story is going to start fast and accelerate quickly. Fascinating? Complicated? A little unnerving? Absolutely. However, what I appreciated the most was getting to know Kiley and Evan. They learn a lot about themselves; especially the fact that everyone makes mistakes, even when the consequences are as crucial as life or death. . . .ultimately, the power of forgiveness becomes a beautiful thing.
“Forgiveness . . . the word sprang to mind as it often had . . . could she forgive Evan? Was he even at fault . . . or was she unwilling to take her share of blame? Blaming Evan was much easier . . . maybe all of it was one of those situations God allowed . . ”
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The opinions stated above are entirely my own.
A book that is so real, it felt like we are on the team, and often holding your breath, expecting the next shoe to drop, hoping it is not too late.
We are transported across our country, from coast to coast, and all the while trying to figure out the target of these culprits, and hoping that the team and all that are helping will be in time.
The main characters FBI Kiley and ICE Even end up back together, there is friction between them, and God’s hand is needed, forgiveness. Can these two work together for the good of our Country? Will all of these agencies be able to put their egos aside for the greater good.
In the end will everyone be in time, and this horrible threat and hate be thwarted. You are about to embark on a journey to save the lives of many, and hope those who serve will be alive at the end.
Yes, this one quickly became a page turner!
