In this riveting tale of psychological suspense, a divorce lawyer risks her career, her sanity, and her life when she falls into an illicit, all-consuming affair with her client—who becomes the primary suspect in his estranged wife’s sudden disappearance.Young divorce lawyer Francine Day has methodically built her career doing everything right. She’s one big case away from securing her place … place among London’s legal elite. But when she meets her new client, Martin Joy, the natural caution that has protected Francine and fueled her rise melts away. Powerless to fight the irresistible magnetism between them, client and counsel tumble into a blistering affair that breaks every rule.
Though Martin insists his marriage is over, Francine doesn’t believe him. Certain details he’s told her don’t quite add up. Consumed with a passion she cannot control and increasingly obsessed with Martin’s relationship with his wife, Donna, Francine follows the woman one night . . . and discovers her having dinner with her supposedly soon-to-be-ex-husband.
The next morning, Francine awakens in her neighbor’s apartment with blood on her clothes and no recollection of what transpired after she spied Donna and Martin together. Then Francine receives more devastating news: Martin’s wife has vanished. That dinner was the last place anyone has seen Donna Joy alive.
Suddenly, Francine finds herself caught in a dangerous labyrinth of deception, lies, and secrets, in which one false move could lead to her undoing. What happened that night and why can’t Francine remember? Where is Donna and who is responsible for her disappearance? The further Francine goes to find answers, the tighter the net seems to draw—around her lover, herself, and the life she’s meticulously built.

Awesome book, just when I was sure I had it figured out I was blindsided. Definitely recommend it.
A pretty good premise for a story. But for me it just dragged on in way too many places unfortunately. Really enjoyed getting to know the characters.
Mine is a totally absorbing and gripping psychological thriller with many twists, unhinged unreliable characters and toxic relationships. I didn’t have any idea who the villain was and couldn’t predict which way the story would go. The story kept me guessing till the end. A highly recommended read for all domestic suspense lovers.
Francine Day is a divorce lawyer who should know better. Falling in love and lust with a client is a big no-no. Martin Joy is a handsome, charming man who insists that his marriage is over … but Francine worries, even though she keeps seeing him.
Consumed with a passion she cannot control and increasingly obsessed with Martin’s relationship with his wife, Donna, Francine follows the woman one night . . . and discovers her having dinner with her supposedly soon-to-be-ex-husband.
The next morning, she awakes in her neighbor’s apartment with no memory of what happened the night before … and there’s blood on her clothes.
Shortly after, Martin’s wife goes missing and he is the prime suspect. The last she was seen was the night she dined with Martin. What happened that night and why can’t Francine remember? The further Francine goes to find answers, the tighter the net seems to draw—around her lover, herself, and the life she’s meticulously built.
This is a well written psychological look at a woman possessed, lit with jealousy, and one who drinks a little too much from time to time. I can’t say I liked the character of Francine. For someone so smart and knowledgeable, she sure places herself in places and situations she should know better. Martin may be charming, but I don’t see him as a prince. He seems secretive and he’s been caught lying, so why would he lie if everything is on the up and up?
Highly suspenseful, the book drew me in from the first page and held my interest throughout. There are twists and turns that keep the reader reeling. The ending came as quite a surprise.
Many thanks to the author / William Morrow Books / Edelweiss for the advanced digital copy of this Psychological Thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Mine by JL Butler a five-star read that you will want to claim. This was a thrilling and suspenseful read, be warned you won’t want to put this down once you start reading it, so don’t start it before bed or else you will be mainlining coffee the next day!! Francine Day is a string character, she has fought hard for what she has, a great career but she is lacking something, but will that be the thing that breaks her. The legalese in the story was well done and understandable, the whodunnit aspect was great, if you guess then you are need to be looking into a career as a detective. This is one of the best gritty dark reads that you will read this year. It’s one I know I will be buying my mum as she loves this type of story.
The moment lawyer Fran Day meets her newest client she can feel the sparks simmering between them, he’s handsome, wealthy, and very charming… but he is also her client, and mixing business with pleasure is a big no-no. But, somewhere along the line boundaries get pushed and she finds herself getting involved with a man that she knows she shouldn’t but the magnetic pull between them is just to hard to resist. Then the unthinkable happens and the wife he is supposed to be divorcing disappears, and fingers begin to be pointed in his direction and soon after Fran starts to have her doubts about Martin too. Can the man she has fallen deeply for be capable of what he is being accused of, or is this a matter of someone framing him to take the fall? Fran needs answers and she is determined to find them, even if it lands her in danger too…
Between the pages of Mine you will find an intense and expertly woven story of obsession, greed, and forbidden passion… a story that is certain to keep you guessing until the last page is turned! This first time read gripped me from the first page, and with each page that followed I continued to be wowed by the words, and astounded by the predicament Fran found herself in. If you are in the mood for something a little steamy and heavy on suspense I highly recommend you get your hands on this one, it is sure to give you everything your searching for… and much, much more!! It easily claimed my vote for one of the best suspense reads I have read so far this year… it’s down right spellbinding!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from Edelweiss and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
