It’s been a while since a book brought me to actual tears. I loved the slowly building relationship between the two main characters, alien and other, joined by a shared interest in psychology and learning. In some ways it was like a trip back to college days, growing and learning from new and different experiences. The caring and gentle relationship grows step by slow step in liking and concern for each other. If you are looking for an action adventure, this is not the book for you, but if you are looking for a story to touch your heart and feelings, this is a lovely journey through acquaintance, sharing, liking, and love. The Greek chorus of the children’s hospital group enriches the story of bonding, growth, love, and loss. I so heartily recommend this one!
Imaginative story. I never knew what would happen next. I really liked the main characters & their situations.
Original ideas, great character development.
Enjoyed this book immensely. The characters are interesting and you can picture the places in the book. Makes on think about ideas and concepts in new ways. Great read and I recommend this author.
Warning: Do not get this book unless you want to blow your book budget for the next three months getting the REST of her books, because you can’t stop until you do! Absolutely terrific universe-building, with very believable aliens, gene-engineered Pelted, and the enigmatic Eldrich, and the interactions between the different cultures. The personal growth that takes place in the main characters as they try to wind their way through basically a graduate medical school (on a world not their own) and decide on their paths forward in life is sure to appeal to anyone who has been to college and made it out to embark on their own life journeys.
Each book in the series ups the stakes of each of their decisions, from what each choice will mean to their personal lives to how their actions affect those around them. A very satisfying and fulfilling read – each and every book in this series!
This book totally captured my mind and heart. The characters are original and easy to love. I have already read the rest of the series – couldn’t help myself and I keep smiling whenever I think about it
Delightful. Interesting characters, good story. I can’t remember when I have enjoyed a fantasy story more.
I rooted for the friendship of the main characters. Their relationship touched me.
Really enjoyed this concept and have ordered the other books in this series. I literally had a difficult time putting my kindle down while I was reading this. Love the characters and their development, looking forward to continuing their story. Just downloaded the series today, so I know what my weekend looks like!
A warm cuddle of a book about found family and new experiences.
I could hardly put this one down! Another series I will have to read completely.
enjoyed this book very much.
I purchased this on a whim and really enjoyed this easy-to-read escape. This is quite a departure from what I usually read but I will purchase the rest of the series to see where it goes.
I wasn’t expecting to like this book as I usually prefer hard science fiction or more complex world building. Instead what I got was a sweet story that was mostly easy to read about two aliens from radically different cultures that become the best of friends. I found myself getting invested in the Pelted universe although initially keeping the different races straight was a challenge. The sketches in the back helped. An expanded pronouncian guide for some of the chatacter and race names would help. I found myself looking forward to more about the two main characters and the Pelted Universe in general.
If you need a break from violence and dystopian settings, this might be just what you need.
I absolutely love the characters in this book! What a great read and the author has a wonderful, positive understanding of people.
I rather liked the fantasy/sci-fi combo. The story is set in a world where many planets are now working together, but the characters are whimsical. But the “Eldritch” is clearly an elf moved over into SF. The story reads pretty well, too.
Slow developing. Not an interesting plot to me.
Slow, very slow
The evolution of the characters is fascinating and engaging. I wanted to keep reading to see what happened next.
Enjoyed the characters very much.
