Very interesting and different, definitely kept me reading.
I loved this book and read the following three in the Dreamhealers series without stopping. The laughing, kind, compassionate and respectful beginning of Jahir and Vasintht’h friendship with each other and with the six girls in the hospital grows more and more complex, honest, caring and beautifully developed. The clarity and nuance of Jahir and Vasitht’h mental and emotional awareness are fantastic, building their perspectives, past personal experiences, current shared experiences and nuanced communication in the reader’s mind. We experience the moments of esp communication between our two heroes of different species, worlds and cultures with all the amazement and wonder that they feel. Our awareness of their university life and relationships with their mentors, families and school friends grows realistically more detailed, complex and real. This is a beautiful, realistic, heart-true story that is as soul-nourishing as a cup of coffee or kerinne with cookies.
Hogarth created a wonderful world, utterly believable, and a relationship between two aliens that withstands the buffets of mixed cultures and barriers. You will fall in love with each of the two main characters, and root for them along the way. This is a book to read over and over again, and enjoyed.
This is what I call ‘kind’ SFF. Gentle pacing of a kind, though plenty happens, good characters, trying to be good, interesting world. I read all four of the books in this series in about a week.Just what the space-doctor ordered.
The plot goes at a slow pace, but the development of the relationships between the characters is very interesting.
Every book Hogarth has written is thrilling and unforgettable.
Meet Jahir, an Eldritch who has a desire to learn and see other species. He enters a college of medicine and stumbles across Vasiht’h, a Glaseah. Two totally different species but somehow drawn together. Both have mental abilities, one should never be physically touched as that makes a mental network so overpowering it can render our character unconscious.
They both care about the well being of others, no matter what species, and especially the young.
This is not action packed. More like a diary, but not day to day.
I was drawn in from the beginning with a desire to see what next. Many differences in the species, easily read even though the names are not readily pronounced. Our
two room mates develop a bond that brings them into the next in the series. Love it.
College is a time of learning from life, instructors, and your friends. If you’re an alien with no friends, your roommate might teach you the most.
Fell in love with the characters! Very well written, took me to a new world
I loved this book and purchased the whole series!
A warm and unique approach to how friends become friends in the first place. Two characters from two entirely different worlds and backgrounds are woven into a storyline that will have you hungrily reaching for the next book in the series.
This is a book for those who need a lift. It is a beautiful story of love, but in a most unusual context.
A really good story. Keeps you wondering what will happen next.
Wish there had been some pictures as it was hard to picture these creatures!
Good book
So much fun reading. What was unique was how well the different species interacted with each other. In particular was the real friendship that developed between Jahir (a tall humanoid) and Vasiht’t (a short Pelted Glaseah).
Warning. This may be science fiction but definitely NOT light airline seat escapism. The characters, plot and setting are inspired. Will evoke periods of extreme emotion. To be savored in a quiet personal space. Not easily put down and definitely not easily forgotten. This one leaves a mark.
Very moving book. It’s what you would expect from a story about empathic characters.
I found this book surprising. Often when describing many alien species the reader gets bogged down in the details, not so in this surprising novel. The platonic love between two vastly different characters is as beautiful as it is touching. I found myself in tears multiple times for various reasons. This is one of those rare works of art that transcend boundaries and show what it means to be truly human (or perhaps alien). I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series.
