Mind Game takes Jane MacGuire back to Scotland where she continues her search for the treasure she’s been chasing for years. But now she’s being plagued by dreams of a girl in danger. Who is this girl, and what is she trying to tell Jane? And will Jane figure it out before it’s too late–for her and the mysterious young woman? Things are further complicated when Seth Caleb comes back into Jane’s … into Jane’s life. This time he’s the one in trouble, and Jane will find herself pulled unexpectedly into his world as she fights to save him.
With the adventure, intrigue, and explosive energy that Iris Johansen fans love, Mind Game is a high-octane thriller that readers won’t be able to put down.

All her books are great read!
It’s a good book that doesn’t bog you down with excess words. It’s crisp and clean and holds your interest far longer than a lot of books in this genre.
A pretty good race against time thriller.
Great read! Love Eve and the family! Glad another couple worked it out!
Loved this action packed book. So glad to have Caleb and Jane back together again. Sparks always fly with these two. Was delighted to attend a certain person(s) wedding and to meet little Michael’s magical presence. Great cast of characters together again. Iris Johansen, you always deliver. Thank you!!
Loved
The newest Eve Duncan and Joe Quinn book, although it should really be considered a Jane and Caleb book as Jane and Seth Caleb are the main characters featured in this edition to the series. I really like the depth the Seth Caleb character is starting to show as the author more fully fleshes him out in this book. I’m hoping that there will be more of Jane/Caleb books to see where the storyline goes. As always the intrigue and mystery are well thought out and I love having a variety of characters reunite in each story.
The book uses actual places that we’ve been to. It makes it more real.
Mind Game, book 22 in Iris Johansen’s Eve Duncan Thriller series. The author’s writing captures readers’ emotions and imagination. Eve Duncan series, high on my ‘Read each book soon as available’ list!!! Iris Johansen, I’ve been reading and recommending for years!!! Mind Games, when posting this review I discovered my was one of Many others. Many ‘READ THIS BOOK’, THIS AUTHOR and THIS SERIES!!! reviews. Sooo, instead of reading one more, READ THIS BOOK! The main characters, Eve Duncan, a forensic sculptor. Her husband, Joe, former Special Forces and FBI, now police detective. Their adult daughter, Jane, a renowned artist with powerful ‘insight’. A revolving cast of other strong characters. Some good. Some bad. Some both. With her gifted hands Eve helps identifies the dead. From their skulls. Bringing loved ones home to their families. Years ago, her young daughter murdered, no body found. Though each book could be enjoyed as a standalone Oh, Sooo Much Better as a Series. No matter which book you start with, you will be compelled to read series. I received this book as an ARC from St. Martins Press through NetGalley. I am voluntarily posting this review.
Once again Iris does not disappoint. I could read books with these characters all the time. It was nice to see some of the characters growing and changing. At the heart it is all about family and that is not not necessarily mean blood ties , as evidenced by Eve and extended family. Great read, fast paced.
Mind Game is definitely an action-packed new addition to the Eve Duncan series! I very much enjoyed seeing what these delightful, hard-working characters are up to, even though there is a little more psychic activity than I had remembered. Fans of Eve Duncan, Joe Quinn, and Jane MacGuire will love this, especially in light of some of the surprises for this tight-knit family. I was surprised that Jane has the primary focus, but enjoyed getting to know her better against the gorgeous Scotland setting.
Jane has just left Eve and Joe’s lake cottage where she spent time with them and their adorable son, Michael. She returns to Scotland, where she has been working with MacDuff, in an attempt to find an old fortune belonging to Cira. Cira was a young actress from the ancient Herculaneum. She has been dreaming of Cira since she was 17 and has been almost obsessed with helping with the experiment to find lights that can see through the mist. Yes, Lake Gaelkar has a heavy, almost impenetrable mist that the human eye could easily become disoriented in and fall in the lake and drown.
Along with dreaming about Cira, Jane is also dreaming about a young woman who she thinks is called Lisa. Her dreams are troubling; the thoughts she reads from Lisa show that she is being held captive. After each dream, she awakens with the compulsion to sketch Jane, and perhaps see what she looks like and where she might be. Then she learns that Lisa is Seth Caleb’s younger sister…
Seth is a man Jane met in the past when he was in Gaelkar. The attraction between them has been strong, but for an unknown reason, he has been cool towards her for a while. He saved her baby brother Michael in a unique circumstance a couple years ago with his special powers. One of those powers is “Persuasion”, and he does have a way of getting people to see his point of view. Now, when his sister needs him, she only wants Jane, not Seth, to find her. The other power? I won’t spoil it for you.
In all honesty, Eve is still my favorite character, and seeing how far Jane has come from when she and Eve first met is exciting. Seeing her interactions with Lisa shows her very soft side for those who she lets past her barriers. The characters are well-rounded; each continues to grow and show more of themselves to the readers. That might sound strange for #22 in the series, but Eve and Jane have kept their hearts guarded well.
This novel is very well planned, written, and executed. The plot is filled with twists and turns that must be considered as they try to rescue Lisa, and it is very possible that doing so has put a bulls-eye squarely on Jane. A cruel, calculating mind is behind Lisa’s abduction, a mind that will go to any length to cover up committed crimes. There are some very exciting surprises for Jane and her family this time, changes that bring joy. There are definitely surprises in store for all of them; while I guessed who the real bad guy/ gal is, the location and motive are unknown. I highly recommend Mind Game to fans of Eve Duncan, and those who enjoy mysteries with paranormal aspects – and applaud the author for continuing to bring a fresh, new adventure in each novel.
From a grateful heart: I was given this ARC book by the publisher through a Goodreads giveaway and here is my honest review.
I was pleased to have Jane and Seth be a focal point, it was good seeing being back in Scotland and seeing familiar faces. I am hoping the ending is a hint of a new road to travel.
Always enjoy her books. Love them.
events a little strung out
