I didn’t expect this book to be that good but it was fantastic. I felt like it started off alittle slow but you needed to know certain details. This book kept you guessing until the end. When I thought I had it figured out, I didn’t! It was such a surprise!!! I can’t wait til the next book.
I found this book which was hyped up on Amazon to be rather lack-luster and dull. I should have simply stopped reading it about 1/3 of the way through it, but I stuck it out to see how things would get resolved. It is perfect for a made-for-TV script, and I think it is actually being made into a film or series.
The biggest take-away from this book was that everyone has dirty little secrets. And yes while I believe all of us have secrets or private matters that we prefer to keep to ourselves, it doesn’t mean that there are literally bodies buried of those we have harmed along the way. So I found this story to be rather revolting in that manner. It felt gritty and dirty. I think I’d rather naively prefer NOT to know that much about my neighbors.
For me this was “Desperate Housewives” meets “Big Little Lies”…everyone was sleeping with everyone else, everyone was tangled up in everyone else’s business, and each of these characters seemed unreal somehow. These people didn’t have real problems that typical middle class Americans would have. These were shallow, pathetic housewives with time on their hands. They were bored, and so they had to make trouble for themselves and purposefully twist themselves up in other people’s lives to keep themselves busy. They were repugnant characters, and it wasn’t something I found enchanting to read. There was nothing new or redemptive about this story. It was something I’ve seen done before…over and over, and it wasn’t worth another look.
“What a refreshing and exciting novel, so unlike anything else out there ”
“I really enjoyed reading this book, it was intriguing and wanted me to keep turning the pages until the end. All the characters have there own agenda and secrets that they want to keep safe, which kept me hooked until I could find out what they were.
Throw in a serial killer into the mix as well! “
After reading this book, I felt Like I read a different version than the one with terrific reviews. It was desribed as a “domestic thriller” and reviews loved it.
Not that much of a mystery as the book deals with 4 couples living in an exclusive gated community and their bad behavior of cheating on spouses, spending lots of money, and stabbing each other in the back with insults.
Along comes Becky, widowed and alone in her new large home. Becky is invited to a meet and greet with the ladies.
Now 3 men have been killed, no clues. all named Adam and there is a young Adam in the neighborhood ….the son of Hank and Maggie. Then the book revolves around the women and how they live.
You meet Perez, a good cop, assigned to look into the deaths of Adams under Richards.
It was scary seeing Becky walk out into the woods and being attacked….but that is the only scare. The author prefers the women’s bad behavior to solving why young men named Adam are killed. The one clue. a bracelet with Adam on it and on other side is the name Amber.
If you love gossip, money, lots of sex scenes and even spousal abuse, then enjoy. But I was disappointed as I figured out that Adam from the community might be dead and what about the wall stain at Becky’s home.
You’ll form opinions on Zoe, Becky, Maggie Paige and Sabine….some have quite the deep secrets and one couple have a deep, disturbing hidden life. BUT the book falters on the Adams and why they are targeted. Perez and Richards are nicely developed characters and solve the murders but that is a small bit of the book. If you love housewives being sex maniacs, belittling other people and trying to upstage each other, then read this.
I can’t recommend this book…not enough mystery and it was hard to feel anything for these couples. 2.8 stars
There are only 5 houses in the exclusive gated community of Hill Point Road. One of the owners moved and Rebecca bought that house. All the wives were gossips–but one really had then marked. She was trying to get them to invest with her husband.
But there was something dark and sinister behind Rebecca’s house in the woods. And a strange spot appeared on her basement wall. The local handyman was really trying to get everything fixed for her! From him she began to learn about her neighbors. Then at their morning meets–yikes these women were really something! Rebecca said very little.
Meanwhile a body had been found near the gated community and the police were trying to find the killer. All of the young men murdered were named Adam. The police named the serial killer The Eden murderer for that reason-in reference to Adam and Eve in the Bible.
The lives of all the home owners began to unravel–people definitely aren’t always who you think they are! And that includes Rebecca–who had a deep dark secret all her own!
The twists and turns will keep you guessing and reading until the very last page is read. This is definitely a psychological mystery thriller you do not want to miss!
