When journalist Christopher De Monti is sent to Warsaw on an assignment, he is thrust into the midst of a pre-World War II ghetto and the persecution of Poland’s Jewish population. Bearing witness to the atrocities of the Nazi party and their plans for a “final solution,” De Monti becomes determined to share his story with the world and joins the Jews of Warsaw in their resistance against German … German occupation. As the war rages on and the ghetto population diminishes, Mila 18 paints a picture of the sheer strength, honor, and willpower of the Jewish resistance as they take their last stand to defend their people. Once again, Leon Uris has given us a heartfelt historical story of Jewish perseverance, which continues its legacy as a New York Times bestselling World War II novel.
“A profoundly moving experience.” —New York Herald Tribune
From the Publisher
It was a time of crisis, a time of tragedy–and a time of transcendent courage and determination. Leon Uris’s blazing novel is set in the midst of the ghetto uprising that defied Nazi tyranny, as the Jews of Warsaw boldly met Wehrmacht tanks with homemade weapons and bare fists. Here, painted on a canvas as broad as its subject matter, is the compelling of one of the most heroic struggles of modern times.
“Not only authentic as history . . . . It is convincing as fiction . . . . The story of a sacrifice that had real meaning and will forever be remembered . . . . A fine and important novel.” — The New York Times

Leon Uris was a master at historical fiction. Mila 18 is no exception. It follows the lives of a group of people through the World War Two. Most of the protagonists were Jewish and ended up in the Warsaw Ghetto. It was enlightening to see how the different people coped. From full collaboration with the Germans to safe their own own skins to …
This one is for WWII fans. All of Mr. Uris’ books take a little while to get going because of the vast number of characters, but I’ve always found them to be worth the wait. I read this one for the first time when I was 15 and fell in love with it, so much so that I memorized the last chapter (some of which still remains with me, 50 years later). …
Drama at the highest level, history, heroism, pathos, sacrifice..this book has them all. Exodus may be Uris’ best known book, but this gem should not be passed by. The Polish persecution leading to the uprising is such a compellingly interesting and awe-inspiring part of human history and this is written so well, taking us right into the ghetto to …
A must read for the next generation. I read this gripping tale of the Warsaw Ghetto when it first came out many years ago and it’s just as good the second time around. Young readers not familiar with the fabulous author Leon Uris should not miss this one.
I read Mila 18 about thirty years ago and I can still recall scenes from the book. A very accurate and horrifying account of the destruction/murder of Jews forced to live in the Warsaw ghetto during WW2.
Outstanding as usual from Uris.
Uris is a master storyteller. This story of the Jewish Warsaw uprising was hard to put down. Heroism, unthinkable evil, squalid self-interest. It’s all there, in a gripping narrative.
Excellent book- Uris is spot on for detailing the nitty gritty of daily life in the Warsaw ghetto during WWII.
Offered an historical insight into life in the Nazi ghetto. This book makes the tragedy understandable.
So much to learn about persecution of the Jews by Nazi Germans in Poland.
I found it difficult to read as it tended to jump around from one destination to another.
This story should be read by everyone as a tribute to the brave and relentless Jewish people in the Warsaw ghettos.
A classic
I loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone.
An excellent depiction of what did happen and what could have happened in Europe during WW2. It is part history and part fiction. Leon Uris is one of the best writers of his time.
fiction based on fact, wonderful book, exceptional writer
I read this book about 40 years ago. Very good read then so I thought I would read it again. Reread Exodus also. Very moving stories.
I had always known that the Jews rose up and defended the Warsaw Ghetto but this book brings it home. I lived with the characters and cried when it ended.
This is an excellent book. I found it hard to put down.
I READ THIS YEARS AGO AND IT WAS AWESOME.
