Midnight Valentine is a story about starting over when all has been lost. Megan is a young widow and she has finally made the decision to leave Phoenix and start over on the coast of Oregon after five years of grieving her husband Cass’s death. Megan has purchased a decrepit bed and breakfast and plans to rebuild it and run it in memory of her husband’s hopes and dreams for them. The town is full of interesting characters but the local contractor takes an immediate dislike to her. His name is Theo and he doesn’t speak to anyone. Megan finds a way to work with him and along the way starts seeing signs of things that she feels are impossible. Midnight Valentine is not a traditional contemporary love story but a story about impossible, never-ending love. It is told almost in it’s entirety from Megan’s POV. I loved this story. Everything about it worked for me because it’s about having hope when there is none, keeping the faith when all is lost and looking for signs when you are lost. J.T. Geissinger has written a beautiful love story with heat and spiritual elements alike. I highly recommend it to any lover of romance.
“Death does not end a relationship. Only a life.”
I read this book, ok I didn’t read it. I devoured it in one sitting, and I had to sit on how i feel about this book for a couple of hours, because to find the words to do this book justice, is nearly impossible. I have never read a book of this caliber, and I have always been quite scared to even come close to reading something like this. I have read most of J.T.’s books, and with 100 % certainty this is by far the best book she has ever written. This book is gut wrenching, it is soul shattering. It makes you feel as if you are bleeding out the pain that the characters are feeling. But in J.T. fashion she not only glued the pieces of my heart back together, she also wrapped it up with a beautiful bow. Midnight Valentine is the only book that I have ever read, that has moved me in a way that I can not even come close to explaining. It in all honesty, is the most powerful romance book that I have ever read. This book will stay with me for the rest of my life.
After experiencing that soul searching love and tragically losing it, Megan moves to the coastal town of Seaside, thousands of miles from home trying to rebuild her life. Setting out to make her and her late husbands dreams come true. Even after 5 years of her husbands death, she has never even grieved of the loss of her husband because some where in the back of her mind, her husband will return to her. She has had that all consuming love, and knows deep within her soul that no other man will ever even come close to changing how she still feels. She is a ball-buster, go getter, and take no crap woman and is super quick to clap back if need be.
Theo is withdrawn, guarded and specifically quiet. He once was the all-american prom king and is now a mute after a horrible accident that not only left scares on the outside but the inside as well. He communicates with a pen and a piece of paper when need be, more specifically, when it comes to his contracting business. He is also very reserved, not one for the spotlight, so he usually steers clear of any social gatherings. Nightmares plague is mind, so sleep is pretty much nonexistent. So at night he walks the beaches to clear his head.
Theo automatically takes a dislike to the new resident of Seaside. But is contracted to renovate her new B&B. As there paths cross more and more, he knows for sure he does not like her, but can’t seem to be far away from her. Megan is convinced there is more to Theo than what meets the eye. After learning about the accident that left Theo with his scars and his silence, she starts to wonder if things are more than just coincidence?
I don’t want to give any more specifics aways, because this book needs to be read, to truly understand what I am talking about. It is just so beautiful and so full of all the feels, that it will leave you wishing that it could never end. It is so well developed, so cautiously put together, so haunting it will leave you breathless…
HATS OFF TO YOU J.T.!! You absolutely blew this one out of the park. If I could give this a billion stars, it still would not be enough. Congratulations to you, because this one, is gonna be on the best seller lists!
There are just no words to explain how I’m feeling right now after closing the last page of this book. No words. It was so much more than what I was expecting. The romance was exceptional but the true heart of this story left me feeling wrung out and my mind all awhirl.
Meagan’s husband, Cass, died five years ago after a tragic accident. She has not moved on. She has grieved but it has not brought healing. He was the love of her life. She lost so much the day she lost him but one thing she still has is the hope to fulfill a dream they had together. So, moving from her home in Phoenix to Seaside, she sets out to renovate an old Victorian B&B.
Her first hurdle is to find a contractor. Despite the fact that everyone recommends Theo, she refuses to do so. Their interactions have been volatile and uncomfortable and it’s obvious that he hates her, without ever saying a word…because Theo doesn’t talk. When the condition of her home becomes dangerous, she has no choice but to turn to him.
Theo and Meagan’s relationship is not the stuff of lighthearted rom-coms. It is heavy and angsty and both of them are running from it for their own reasons. However, this isn’t your typical push and pull romance. Both of these characters are damaged and as the reader you will understand the reasoning behind their actions.
Written in Meagan’s point of view, with just the epilogue in Theo’s, you will experience all the love, pain and loss she feels as well at the awakening and the miracle of love reborn. I felt her struggle as well as her hope even as they blended together.
I went into this book with nothing more than the blurb to lead me and I strongly suggest you do the same. J.T. Geissinger’s talent truly knows no bounds and nothing proves it more than Theo and Meagan’s story.
Fucking Yellow Balloons
A love story stretched beyond death. Although, I hoped Theo didn’t have to share Megan’s love, this was still a brilliant story with an interesting twist.
I loved this one!
Midnight Valentine is an exceptional love story of passion, real life emotions and connection. It’s intensity will touch you deep down in your soul. A affecting read, this book is full of twists and turns that will keep you intrigued and on the edge. I cannot count how many times I held my breath, waiting for the next chapter. Beautifully well written.
This book is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. To best enjoy it just go in blind. Read the blurb which gives you the bones of the book.
Megan’s husband died and she can’t get over him. (There’s way more to Megan’s grief than her husband’s death). She moves away to fulfill their dream of owning a seaside B and B. Upon her arrival, mysterious Theo awkwardly makes his intense presence known. But it is not a fuzzy-feeling welcome Megan gets.
Megan is having some bad luck trying to get her house restored. And she keeps having very weird encounters with Theo. He’s not the friendliest person in town, but Megan is drawn to him nonetheless.
This is not an easy love story for either of them. It is crazy and intense and confusing for both of them. Everything comes together in the end. All the questions, all the heartache. It is a HEA. My heart ached reading this. For both of them. But then my heart started to heal. And I was left speechless. In a very good way. I read most of this author’s books, and she never disappoints with her storytelling. She’s just that good.
I was very intrigued by Midnight Valentine’s blurb. I knew I couldn’t miss this story and I’m so happy that I read it! I’m so in love with this book!
I’ve been trying to write this review for a few days and I think that I’m still struggling as I write it because this story blew me away. Everything about this book is amazing! I wasn’t expecting such an emotional roller-coaster and I really didn’t expect to love it so much but I truly did, Megan and Theo’s journey took my breath away and broke my heart… repeatedly!
So, Megan lost the love of her life and she’s still grieving after 5 years. She moves to a small town, to a house that was a beautiful dream she shared with Cassidy, her late husband. And in that small town she meets Theo. Let’s just say their first, second and third encounters don’t go well at all! Actually, Theo seems to hate her at first sight and she’s confused about his reactions to her presence but mostly about her reactions to his behavior around her…
Theo also faced a tragedy and he survived it. Scarred, troubled and silent, everyone loves the former golden boy but no one does quite understand him, except, to some extent, his best friend. And then, there’s Megan moving in to a house that holds so much meaning to him…
Honestly, I can’t give any details because this is one of those books that you should just read the blurb, one click it and READ IT! All I can say is that this story wrecked me and it’s one of the most beautiful, emotional, amazing, heartbreaking, unique romances I’ve read. Definitely a must read, unquestionably my top favorite of 2018 so far. J.T. Geissinger is truly talented! I’ve read her Bad Habit series (not a fan of the first book in that series, loved the second and really liked the third one), but Midnight Valentine is in a different league entirely, I’m absolutely blown away by her amazing ability to tug at readers’ heartstrings, she thrives on writing unique, emotional, tragic romances with broken and complex characters, beautiful settings and remarkable plots. I highly recommend Midnight Valentine to anyone who loves romances, especially if you’re an hopeless romantic. This hauntingly beautiful romance will definitely stay with me for a long, long time.
AN EXQUISITE, UNFORGETTABLE STORY OF EVERLASTING LOVE. FIVE MAGICAL STARS!
WOW! I finished this book an hour ago and can finally breathe normally again. I held my breath in Chapter 30, afraid our hero would die in the end like the author originally planned. Thank GOODNESS she changed her mind; otherwise I’d have thrown my Kindle across the room and written a nasty review. That’s how much I craved a happily ever after for Megan and Theo. I’m thankful the author’s fingers decided to go ahead and write that perfect ending!
I read and review dozens of books each year and can usually find one or two that rise far above the rest in quality and sheer enjoyment. I’m sure Midnight Valentine will be at the very top of this year’s list, because it’s so much more than a book–it’s an unforgettable experience. The author is an accomplished word-painter, wrapping her plot and characters in prose so lyrical it’s almost poetry, laced with similes and metaphors and evocative phrasing that touches the reader’s mind and heart. I swear, she can put more feeling into a single sentence than most authors can convey in a chapter. I am in awe of her amazing talent!
The book’s very first sentence asks, “Do you believe in reincarnation?” I had just finished reading a mediocre book with that theme and didn’t enjoy it, so I thought this might be another disappointment. Boy, was I wrong! This compelling story strengthened my belief that things beyond our comprehension do exist in many forms in this world and beyond, and who are we to doubt them? As the author puts it so eloquently, “Love isn’t born of the flesh. It’s born of the spirit, and so can transcend the bonds of flesh, and life, and time.” Amen.
There’s pain and sadness in this story but plenty of humor as well, especially in the lively banter between Megan and Suzanne, her realtor and friend. And I loved Coop, Theo’s best friend. Every character plays his or her part flawlessly–even the bad guy (who deserves more than two days in jail!). The picturesque setting in Seaside, Oregon, adds a delightful small town ambience to the plot. The town does exist, but there’s no Buttercup Inn (darn it.)
No plot summary from me this time, because nothing should spoil this exquisite story of everlasting love. It’s definitely one to keep and read again. Kudos for flawless editing and proofreading and for limited use of the f-word. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I loved this book… like all of J.T.’s books so far, I didn’t want to put it down once I started. This story was slightly on the paranormal/religious side which was very different from anything else I’ve read from her, but it was amazing. Fate vs. chaos, God vs. no God, is there a grand plan or is everything truly coincidence, and to have hope or not to have hope?
She did such a great job creating Megan and Theo’s characters, but even more so Theo. I mean how do you build a character that doesn’t speak and you get nothing from his POV!? I was very impressed.
This author, in this, and all her other books I have enjoyed, has a rare skill in crafting words to take the reader deep into the characters souls. Funny, heartbreaking, romantic, lewd, so real one loses themselves in the story, in pain, joy, redemption and hope.
Midnight Valentine is my first book to read by J.T Geissinger. A friend suggested it to me, and it sounded like my kind of book. It was much more than I was expecting. Two broken people who don’t know why they are drawn to each other. The thing that breaks you is the only thing that can put you back together.
Megan Dunn arrived in Seaside, Oregon determined to open the old Victorian she bought as a B&B. The Buttercup Inn needed a lot of extensive renovations, but this had been the dream of Megan and her now deceased husband. She was determined to bring the Inn to the beautiful place they had once dreamed of. It had been five years since her husband’s accident and death, but this project makes her feel alive again. She has been told the best contractor in the area is Theo Valentine. Too bad he seems to take an instant and intense dislike of her.
Theo was left scarred and mute after a terrible accident. It just seems to be her that he dislikes. The rest of the town like him and his work is highly recommended. Fate seems to want to throw them together. So work starts on the Buttercup Inn. One night it is Theo who saves the Inn from completely burning down. It does seem that Theo Valentine and Megan Dunn have more in common then they both thought.
If you ever have been fascinated with the topic of reincarnation. Anything you lose may come along in another form. If you believe death doesn’t end a relationship. Only the life. If the good memories outweigh the bad, you shouldn’t want to forget the past. If someone loves you enough, then one lifetime isn’t enough. Maybe you will find the same love in every one of your lives. This is a different love story than you will ever read. Love isn’t born of the flesh. It’s born of the spirit. And so can transcend the bonds of of flesh, and life, and time. Good Book!!
This was one of those books you just don’t want to end. I loved every aspect of it! I feel there are a few authors out in the literary world that understand what I need to get from a book. Luckily for me, this author is one of them 🙂
From the beginning this was an absolute page turner. Loveable characters, wonderful setting and enough twists to keep the interest till the last page. Highly recommended to anyone who likes a good love story with a definite twist.
One of my favorite books this year!
Megan Dunn has struggled to get over the loss of her husband Cass who died five years ago. Deciding to act upon a dream the two of them had to buy and re-do a B&B they loved in Seaside, Oregon, Megan starts interviewing contractors. Theo Valentine, the towns best contractor, really wants this job but seems to have taken a big dislike to Megan glaring in silence at her the first time he see’s her. That isn’t the only challenge to working together, Theo is also mute. He hasn’t spoken since a car accident five years ago.
Megan was one of those heroines you just love. She is battling depression, wanting to live. She knows who she is and doesn’t suffer any fools, which is why she tries so hard to steer clear of Theo at the beginning of the novel, but fate seems to be betting against her when it comes to ditching Theo. Her feelings seemed to mirror my own until I started to grasp where this novel was heading, then I was rooting for Theo wanting to see him get his happily ever after.
Midnight Valentine explores the darkness inside both Theo and Megan. She is emotionally distraught over the death of her husband, and well, we aren’t sure why Theo is emotionally distraught, but it’s obvious he is. J. T. Geissinger writes emotional romantic tales so well and Midnight Valentine is right up there as one of my favorites by this author. The mystery of why Theo has an instant dislike to Megan contrasted with their amazing chemistry kept me turning the pages well into the night. The highest compliment to an author is to not be able to put their book down and that was certainly the case with Midnight Valentine.
I love to read. Consequently sometimes the stories just blur together. Midnight Valentine was a delightful surprise. It was heartbreaking beautiful. I could give you a plotline however it would not do this story justice. Do yourself a favor. Pick up this book and find some alone time. You will not want to put it down. Yes it is that good!!!!!!
Didn’t want to put the book down. You have to let yourself believe
Midnight Valentine is a unique love story, one that I don’t think I’ve ever read before.
Megan has been through one of the worst things that she’ll ever experience. She lost the one thing that meant the most of her. A love, that was torn apart too soon. As a last-ditch effort she decides to start a new life, in a new town, and finally, do something she’s always wanted to do. But then she meets Theo a tall, dark, broody man; whose just a mystery. He’s also going through something, that Megan is yearning to understand. They have this pull for each other that neither of them understands.
Geissinger took this idea; I don’t want to say what it’s about because it would just ruin it for the reader. But it was a great idea. You put the pieces together, as your going through the story. It is a tough love story If you lost someone you deeply loved. You’d probably be lost forever, trying forever to find something to hold on too. I think this was brilliant. Midnight Valentine is the first book I’ve read of by author; I think I’ll continue to read more. The ending was perfect and exactly how this story needed to end.
Overall, Five Boundless Stars
This book was one of my all time favorite reads. Especially the twist in the story with not knowing who Cass and Theo really are. I loved the HEA. It is a great read.
