Ah… How I’ve missed you, Edward
I am completely in love with this book! I have waited a long time for this release, and it did not disappoint. I loved Twilight and Edward. I love Midnight Sun even more! I feel, Twilight needs to be read first. Midnight Sun is a bit darker than Twilight. I also feel it gave me added appreciation for the book Twilight and even the entire series. Stephenie Meyer is a genius by rewriting the entire Twilight book in Edward’s perspective. I wish/hope she does that with the rest. By reading Edward’s perspective it give so much more insight into his character and even Bella and the rest of the characters. I am now ready to reread the rest of the series!
It’s like being a teenager all over again, a time when the Twilight Saga just came out. I’ve literally been waiting for Edwards POV from the very beginning as the very first book did not do him enough justice. And, well, it’s been worth the wait. Now I’ll just be re-reading the rest of the books and remember the time, while being a teenager and dreaming of a bright future… A little melancholic after so many years have passend but nevertheless a very amazing story – though you know it already, but you get a lot of insight into Edwards family and his past. Very wonderful.
If you grew up reading the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer, it’s oddly refreshing reading this book now 15 years after the first book came out. (I always go back to that series when I need something to read so I’ll say this review might be a little biased.) Reading this book from Edward’s perspective, we get to see a different side of the characters that we originally didn’t in the series and it’s almost like hearing the story for the first time because although it’s the same story it’s entirely different. I was a little worried going into it because I didn’t think the book would be as good written this way, and I was a little skeptical about it because of it being rewritten before, but I actually loved it! The middle did get a little slower but the ending was so worth getting through it. I would recommend it to anyone who’s interested in checking it out!
After waiting what 15 years at least, when Breaking Dawn was released and that Stephanie Meyer was supposed to released Twilight from Edward PoV. And due to some chapters being leaked well she stop writting it. It was worth the wait.
Midnight sun is bigger than Twilight. Same story but with the PoV of Edward instead of Bella. We gets to read about how he felt when he firts saw her. Struggling to keep the monster inside. We learn a bit more about the Cullens. About Alice’s gift, how her visions are working. I would take a whole book on Alice backstory. Or any of the other Cullens. Maybe a sequel after breaking dawn. Or more books, anything. I read that there is more books coming!
I have really like this book. I really recommended it for Twilight fans of all ages.
3.40s. I was SO excited to get my hands on the new Twilight novel 15 years after I first fell in love with the series. In my reviews for the books I proudly admitted I loved them—okay, so more like I was only slightly embarrassed to admit that I loved them… but the point is I owned it! So, how devastating it was to read this book and learn a terrible, life changing truth about myself… I’ve grown up to become that cynical adult I swore I’d never turn into! When I was 15 I dreamed about having my own Edward or Jacob, as did all my friends. We thought the way they protected Bella and carried her everywhere was beautiful and sweet.
Now however, reading Midnight Sun—which is just the first Twilight novel from Edward’s perspective— I found the romance over the top & I’ll be honest, a bit offensive. How defenseless Bella always was & her constant need to be protected bothered me! And Yes, I do understand that even the strongest, most independent woman wouldn’t stand a chance against immortal, super strength&speed filled vampires. But the way Bella Immediately became so dependent on Edward that she couldn’t function without him, was no longer romantic it was infuriating! All after seeing him once I might add… and what are we teaching teenage girls when Bella decides to get in a frickin car with a guy who she barely knew?? Not to mention the part when she first goes into the woods with Edward and didn’t tell anyone who she was with to protect him in case he accidentally murdered her?? At 15 it was all so romantic, at 30 it just annoyed me and quite frankly pissed me off!
So yes, I’ve grown up, and no matter how hard I tried to see it as I used to, I just couldn’t. I still recommend this for fans of the original series, especially ones from my generation who read as teenagers it when it came out. Mostly because I need to know if this feeling is a normal progression of maturing or if (heaven help me) I really have just become a cynical old fart !!
Stephenie Meyer has created such an amazing world with this characters that have enthralled us for over a decade. I was looking forward to this book and yes, it had what I needed, but it was a bit underwhelming. I still loved it though (a testament to her writing). Looking forward to these “upcoming projects” that were teased.
Words cannot express just how much I enjoyed reading this book. I was worried that it would be too much like Twilight and that I would be bored, but that was not the case. There is so much more. Getting to see everything through the vampires eyes was great. If you are a Twilight fan, this is a MUST READ. Now I’m going to have to re-read the entire series.
This book was worth the wait. Seeing this story from Edwards point of view gives a lot more depth to some of the characters and more detail to a lot of the conversations between Bella end Edward. The story is the same as Twilight but you just get more detail, especially on the Cullens and their history. I still do not like Rosalie but this book made me love Emmett and Alice just a little more. I truely enjoyed this book.
**3.5**
I was beyond excited for this book. I have never one-clicked a pre-order faster in my life. I adore most books that are from the male POV. I am a girl, I know how we work, so I am fascinated by the male POV. Yes I know they are mostly written by females but I love the male POV. So to get Edward’s had me beyond excited. It has been so long since I had read the leaked chapters that she posted on her site so it was like reading a new book. Work kept getting in the way when all I wanted to do was hunker down and devour this book. So thank goodness for vacation and a 5 hour drive. I loved being in Edward’s head and finally seeing it all from his POV but holy heck did this book drag on. I have read long books but it didn’t feel like I was reading a long. Midnight Sun just felt loooooooong. It took me four days to read. I never take that long to read a book. It was everything that I hoped and dreamed for but it just felt like it dragged on too long.
I just adored this book. If you enjoyed this series, you will love this book. If you did not read the first book, Twilight, I would suggest reading it before you read Midnight Sun.
I loved seeing what was happening through Edward’s eyes. You really get a better understanding of why certain things happened. It was fun reliving the whole first time in love story between Edward and Bella. I certainly hope Stephenie Meyers is going to continue and write the other three books from Edward’s point of view.
I loved loved this book! Of course we have been waiting 10 years for it, but it did not disappoint. I was thrilled to be able to finally read the book from Edward’s point of view. It was great to be able to gain insight into what he was feeling and thinking and to learn more details about other members of the Cullen family!
Like everyone else, I’ve been waiting forever for the chance to finish Midnight Sun. This was a fun opportunity to see the Twilight story through Edward’s eyes–literally since he can read minds. It was interesting how being able to hear people’s thoughts made me like them more or make me not like them at all.
I especially enjoyed getting to see more details about the Cullens. And who knew Edward was such a brainiac! And seeing how Alice used her precog abilities to plan out Bella’s “accident” at the hotel was fascinating. I’d love to see a book about Alice, from when she first wakes as a vampire to when she finally joins the Cullen family. All these details provide a buffer from all of Edward’s angst. He’s even worse than Bella! Now I want to go listen to Breaking Dawn again.
I listened to the audiobook. Jake Abel did a fantastic job!
Ok I took this book at a leisurely pace. I have eyes I saw it was going to be a long one so I settled in. You see I am a fan of the books of the audio’s of the movies minus the first movie. We don’t speak about that one. Any who….
I quiet enjoyed getting to see Edwards side of things, how he came to be with Carlisle and his take on things. What he hears from others around him how he takes that all in very interesting. His side of the love affair how his family sees it, that was all very awesome to experience.
BUT…. Its 11 years too late. I feel like the author took wayyy to long in giving us this gift. And I see it as that a gift but with all the movies, the 10th anniversary book Bree Tanner all that it felt like too little too late.
I don’t know did I like it yes but I am kinda salty about it if I am being honest.
I 100% loved the narration of this book. I hope Jake gets into more audiobook narrating because I enjoyed his voice.
I am a fan of the vampire genre. I don’t care if vampires sparkle, explode, sizzle or turn to ash in the sun. I have been in love with vampires since Bela Lugosi stared out of the black & white television with that captivating stare. Those bloodlust filled eyes and his persuasive voice commanding his obsession to his will and thus becoming mine.
I voraciously read anything with vampires (except Bram) in my 20’s. Then Brad Pitt, the tortured vampire to Tom Cruise’s callous and selfish vampire, entered my life. I became reignited with thirst for more vampires and read Anne Rice’s “Interview with a Vampire”. My obsession reignited for more.
In my 30’s Gary Oldman stood across from Winona Ryder, in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and spoke, “see me” in a compelling, lusty voice and intense stare. I had to have more. I finally picked up Bram Stoker’s Dracula and sunk deeper into my love of this genre.
In my 40’s Stephenie Meyer refreshed the genre; after having a dream that stayed with her long after waking. Twilight burst into culture leaving no generation or gender untouched by her retelling. Meyer’s vampires, like humans, are neither good nor bad as a whole. Like humans, there are those with a conscious, who value human life, and those that are bloodthirsty and cruel.
Meyer’s vampires share the trait, however, that those who came before her established; obsession. Edward’s obsession with Bella was in keeping with the genre, yet received backlash from those who claimed he was a creepy stalker. Of course he was a stalker, he was a vampire. Vampires stalk their obsession, lure them with beauty, voice and scent to ultimately feed their bloodlust.
Now, we come to Midnight Sun; Edward’s story. We are front row observers to his obsessive thoughts. The vampire who is denying his preternatural instincts for love. We witness first hand his bloodlust for Bella. His struggles to stay away from her and fail are better understood in Midnight Sun.
The greatest gift we are given in Midnight Sun is Bella explained from Edward’s point of view. Bella is frail and fate seems to have it out for her. The same experiences befall Bella but through Edward’s eyes we see how she is not meant to live long in the human world. His stalker like desire to “protect her” in Twilight does not seem as unreasonable in Midnight Sun. Midnight Sun explains why Bella feels responsible to protect everyone she cares about. First through memories Bella shares with Edward and then through mother/daughter and father/daughter interactions.
Whether it is because Meyer completed this story 15 years later or because of the slightly different retelling, it is better than Twilight; in my opinion.
I chose to switch between the Audible and Kindle versions because I couldn’t put it down. The main benefit of the audio version was to have a new voice for Edward. The narrator, Jake Abel, had a pleasing voice with many variations for each character. The only drawback for me was his actual yelling when a character was yelling. I am noise and inflection sensitive so these moments were hard to listen to. Even though I know it is fiction, hearing someone yelling in anger causes me some personal anxiety.
It is my great hope that Meyer continues the series from Edward’s point of view. I don’t think of this as Twilight #5, I think of this as Midnight Sun #1.
I fell in love with Edward all over again. I liked Midnight Sun a thousand times more than Twilight. I love his mannerisms, his way of thinking, his love and utter devotion. I did not expect to feel differently about Jacob in this book, but I did. One of my most favorite books for 2020

This is going to be a pretty long review as this book is the longest that we all waited for a book that we needed more than our last breath. I remember the days of staying up all night to read all the twilight books. I read them four times as I just had to read them again before each movie came out. Right!!!! When I heard what happened with Midnight Sun and that Stephenie Meyer put what she had written her website… my fingers took me there to read it. I needed more. I was angry about the leak and that we would never get Edwards Book. Then a few months ago we got the announcement that MIDNIGHT SUN would be releasing. After the terrible year that is 2020… this is the best news we could ever get. This made 2020 brighter.
Now for the Book. Edwards Book gives us the spectacular insight to when a vampire meets his intended… his mate. He tries very hard to deny all his feelings and the inner monologue of all the Cullens made this book that much more special. You don’t just get Edwards mind… you get the thoughts of his entire family. Have you ever really wondered why Rosalie acts as she does with Bella? I’m not going to tell you, but it was the biggest and best laugh out loud moment of the entire book. I lost tears and breath from my roll on the floor laughing. We get more back story for all the Cullens as well. Fantastic idea to add this. Bravo!
I was in awe of Edward, his control and the was he melts into falling in love with Bella. I certainly have fallen harder for Edward Cullen. The words are eloquent and definitely written as if he was more mature and from a different time. PERFECTION! I could not ask for anything better.
I certainly would love to have all the books from his POV as well.
I listened to the Audio version and enjoyed the narration by Jake Abel… he was magnificent!

My excitement going into this book knows no bounds.
This was a whole lot more enjoyable than Twilight – and I was one of the ones on the Twilight bandwagon. After a recent reread as an adult, I realized how young she sounded and how…eh she made him sound. I think this book retold in his POV definitely provides the air of maturity that he is, and makes her sound better too. Some of the things he said in Twilight did not seem very Edward-y, but from his perspective it was normalized. On this note, Twilight got bashed for some of the events that occur and I like how the author took time to rationalize each event and explain why he did it. I think this one provided a lot more to the series/book. The improved writing helped of course.
The Cullens are a great group of characters, but play a very minor role in Twilight and New Moon. I also enjoyed this one for the insight it gave to the characters. How they interact outside of Bella’s POV. For example, I always assumed Edward was closer with Jasper, but this book shows how that is not true. He is closer to Emmett, which helps give Emmett more depth. In the original series, Jasper plays a few roles, while Emmett is just there. In this one, we get to see his thoughts on Edward’s relationship with Bella, and although confused at first, how he did treat and protect her like family in the end. On the note of Jasper, this gave a wonderful look into how his ability actually works. It can almost be compared to Bella’s shield in Breaking Dawn. It was a fascinating look into the mechanics. It’s also no secret in Twilight that Alice saw a vision of Bella as a vampire, but in his POV we get to see the vision almost first-hand. It’s just a lot more insight to their thoughts of Bella, all while Edward was falling in love with her.
I enjoyed the struggle his character gave. Again, no offense Twilight, but she was a girl with a crush. There was no struggle for her, other than hoping he liked her. In this one, we get insight into the actual struggle he had when meeting her, and then again when just getting close to her, and again when building the relationship. It gives the entire series more depth. In a vampire book, it’s always nice to get the perspective of the vampire, who is having the struggle with bloodlust.
I know this is just Twilight retold, and the author said she isn’t planning the others, but I really hope she reconsiders. I know she mentioned not wanting to do New Moon in his POV, but again, I really think it could add something to the series. While New Moon brushed over the first few months, I’d enjoy seeing the first few months in his perspective. With Eclipse and the love triangle and proposal, all things I’d love to get in his head about. And book 4, especially. Between the wedding, painful pregnancy, growing friendship with Jacob, and the Volturi stuff. She says it won’t happen, but she also said the same for Midnight Sun, so here’s hoping. If we bug her enough maybe. She stated she wasn’t how excited people would feel for Midnight Sun and that got a huge reception, so. Also, the Jacob and Renesmee book please!
Overall, after rereading the series and now this one, I am finding it hard to let the series go again. Nostalgia, much! I really need to not let so much time pass next time.
This book is amazing! You finally able to get inside Edwards Cullens head and see the first twilight from the vampires point of view. Stephanie Meyer really outdid herself on this one!! Hoping for maybe a New Moon from Edwards point of view???
I love this book so much
