After the untimely death of her grandparents, Cynthia was propelled into becoming a guardian to her younger half-sisters, Penelope and Charmaine. As they all lived under the tyrannical rule of their drunken mother, she constantly felt that this wasn’t the life that she was meant to lead. She dreamed of one day her mother becoming sober enough for her to remember that she once loved her children. … children. Unfortunately, that day would never come, and her heart would harden with each cruel comment from her mother.
It wasn’t until her freshman year in college that she would find someone who did love her, as she deserved. Who would liquefy her hardened heart, to find the giving soul that has been hiding from her mother’s tirades. It was then that Cynthia would investigate her mother’s past, to find answers to who her mother has become. The answers that would come in the dead of night. Midnight Princess.
A standalone, opposites attract romance that will have you ready to turn the next page.

As I write this review, I say goodbye to a fun series that I have enjoyed reading. The Modern Princess Collection written by various authors each featured a fairytale and turned it into a modern-day university romance tale. All have been good reads and enjoyable as you read the authors’ interpretations. Our last book in the collection – Midnight Princess by Cam Johns is based on Cinderella. We have our main character Cynthia who has been busy raising her two half-sisters as her mother is abusive. She has captured the attention of one of the hottest and wealthiest guys Ashton Preston. Can Cynthia balance a romance and looking after her sisters? I did like the added extra of when we find out about Cynthia’s background and who she is, I just wish that we had more of a storyline and that this part had been furthered. It felt like we finally learned the truth about Cynthia and her sisters and then it was over and there were no real consequences. I did love Ashton’s mother though as for a society wife she had acceptance and love about her that shone through the pages.
If you love fairytale renditions and have yet to discover the Modern Princess Collection, then what are you waiting for?
I was confused when I read the prologue, but once I kept reading it made sense and I feel in love with Cynthia. I just want to give her a big hug, I know how it feels to have a parent “hate” you but not the way she does. She is such a strong lady and I really admire Cam Johns for writing her character the way she did. I will definitely be reading some of her other work.
Midnight Princess is one of my favorites in this Modern Princess Collection series. It had the perfect mix of drama and a touch of steam. Ashton and Cynthia were certainly meant to be. Lots of unexpected twists and turns that kept me on my toes.
4.5*
This one was my favorite. It sounded like a little of Cinderella and Rapunzel combined. It left me wanting more. Cynthia is why and keeps to herself but is plagued by a nightmare that keeps her from sleeping. Ashton is the rich hot playboy who has been pinning for Cynthia from the first time she yelled at him in high school, years later he is ready to claim her. Great storyline with wonderful characters.
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
1/2 – A charming retelling of Cinderella! Midnight Princess was over much too soon for me. A fairy tale with a dark twist, this was a great addition to the series. It really pained me to only give this 3.5 stars, but the story line felt way to rushed, making it hard to swallow for me personally. I enjoyed the premise behind the story, but I feel it would’ve been given much more justice if it was a full-length book. I’d definitely give it another chance if it was written into a longer story, so the characters relationships could be more developed. I loved the sisters and her fierce protection of them, but overall, it was just too much story squeezed into a novella-sized book.
This was another solid offering from this series! The story is a modern day telling of Cinderella. Cynthia’s grandparents passed away and she was left taking care of her two sisters and the house. Her mother is mean and abusive to her. Ashton is rich and wants Cynthia as his own. He literally becomes her Prince Charming. Their story was one of insta-love and it was so worth reading! I really enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for the privilege of reading this book! Well done
Unique Retelling and great story!
This was a really unique retelling of Cinderella and a really wonderful story to read. It was gripping and intense right from the start. Cynthia and Ashton have great chemistry and a intense connection. There is lots of drama, emotional ups and downs and twists and turns that will keep you captivated and highly entertained. There are times that this story will break your heart but then will mend it back together again.
Really great story that I highly enjoyed reading.
Ashton and Cynthia will keep you mesmerized in this empowering story. Cynthia has questions about her mother’s behavior and why she treats her and her sisters the way she does. The answers come when she is at a ball and the consequences will alter the lives of not only her but her two younger sisters as well. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
This one was a little bit more darker and heartbreaking than the others. It also had some crazy secrets to reveal. It also showed that someone maybe known as evil can have a good side to them. This was a unique retelling of Cinderella and her sinful Prince Charming.
This was my first book by this author. It’s a quick and easy read. I would like to have had a bit more of the backstory early on especially for our hero, but I always like more of the story. Overall, a nice addition to the collection.
Midnight Princess
MIDNIGHT PRINCESS is about poor, abused, beautiful Cynthia and hot, wealthy, popular Ashton…..Actually, Cam Johns has given us a modern day Cinderella story…with a twist…and I didn’t realize it until I sat down to write this review…
Cynthia has been too busy raising her sisters, going to school and working to have a social life….Ashton comes from wealth, some of it with mob ties, and he has always had pretty much what he wants…..Ashton wants Cynthia…He’s been in love with her for a long time, and…..Ashton is the perfect Prince Charming….I loved this book…
This is a great modern twist on the Cinderella story. I love the twists taken to make it unique and the chemistry between Cynthia and Ashton was amazing. It’s a sweet, opposites attract story with secrets that add to the allure of the story.
Fantastic ending to Modern Princess Collection! I really enjoyed Midnight Princess! Loved Cynthia and Ashton’s chemistry! Loved the twists and turns this story had! Perfect fairytale ending! Give this Modern Princess Collection a read!

A really good read. Good story and some good characters. It’s sad this is the last book. I didn’t want it to end. 5*.
Midnight Princess by Cam Johns is the seventh and final instalment of the modern princess collection, like the others, it is stand alone so can be read by itself.
The story is a modern twist on Cinderella and I could tell that almost immediately, Cynthia’s character definitely gives off the Cinderella vibes. I loved the story, it was sweet and sexy in all the right places and then had a major twist towards the end. The only problem I had with this story is that I felt it ended too suddenly, there was this huge buildup and then it was all explained in the last couple of pages, I felt like it could have been made a bit longer and gone more in depth.
Overall I really enjoyed the story and would definitely recommend it to others.
This cool revamping of Cinderella was full of surprises right up until the very end and I couldn’t put it down. It starts with a 16yo Cynthia waking from a reoccurring nightmare to find her beloved grandparents dead and realizing that she and her sisters are back at the mercy of their drunk and abusive mother. We then fast forward four years to Cynthia being a mother to her sisters while holding down a part time job and going to college at CamU all while still dealing with her mother. Cynthia would love to be able to just enjoy life as any normal college student, but doesn’t believe that it will ever happen. Little does she know that her Prince Charming is just waiting for the right moment to swoop in and hopefully make some if not all of her dreams come true.
Ashton is mainly attending CamU because fascination with Cynthia. He is the son of a very prominent family of lawyers with a shady past of being involved with the Mob. Ashton finally gets a chance to talk to Cynthia when his twin sister invites Cynthia to a girl’s night out. That night is full of surprises for everyone involved and then when Ashton takes Cynthia and her sisters home later the next day he witnesses first hand just how bad things are at her house and he rescues Cynthia and her sisters. Things sort of even out and Ashton and Cynthia explore their feelings for each other however it all comes to a head at the Glass Ball. You will have to read the book to find out what surprises are in store for Cynthia and see if she and Ashton can find their way to a HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a really good read. The story was well written a gripping. You had to feel for Cynthia and yet you had to admire her strength. I liked Cynthia and Ashton as a couple. They had good chemistry and I found it very easy to feel the connection and pull between them. A powerful combo of twists, drama and emotions hold your interest and ensure you want to keep reading. Part fairytale and part harsh realism, I thought that this was an excellent read. This is my volitional, candid review.
Midnight Princess by Cam Johns
Cynthia Kellan has been plagued by nightmares for as long as she can remember. It’s always the same recurring one that keeps her from getting any real sleep. She also has a mother who is always drunk and belittling her and her two younger sisters. With all the responsibilities left for Cynthia to handle after the death of her beloved grandparents she now gets her sisters Penelope and Charmaine bathed, fed, ready for school and back home again all while going to school herself.
Ashton Preston is from a powerful family and there are certain expectations that come from that. Like certain traditions like football, school ,working for his father and dating the “right” kind of girl.
Cynthia and Ashton have gone to the same high school and now college but other than that they have nothing in common. She has stayed to herself and took care of her sisters and worked hard to survive. He has always been popular everybody wants to be with him, played sports, partied and never wanted for anything.
For the first time in her life she agrees to go out and have fun and her life will change forever. Over the course of a few weeks big secrets are revealed, an exciting romance begins to bloom and her life will never be the same.
Opposite attract romance with twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end.
I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.

I couldn’t put it down. Ashton and Cynthia were just meant for each other. There was a plot twist I never seen coming but all fell into place nicely. This book was wonderful 5 stars absolutely.
Modern day story of Cinderella. I have said this and will say it again; I am loving this series! The only issue I had with the story is I was left wanting more. There should be an epilogue to tie everything together. Other than that, I love Cynthia and Ashton. Their story have me all the feels and even had me crying.
