Our story begins the same as any ill-fated romance. Two households, two families, two species that should never be together. These are the recipe for tragic, beautiful love, fated to end in flames. She is my doom. She is my destiny. Unavoidable, impossible to deny, and painful to ignore. They call me Bastard Prince, a half-breed unworthy of a true title. But I still have to follow the rules. Serve … follow the rules. Serve the Blackthorne vampire bloodline.
A shifter and a vampire are forbidden to be together. The law declares it so. But Briar is mine, and I’ll fight family and constitution to the death in order to keep her.
Midnight Prince is the first of an all new series in the Blackthorne Vampires world. It contains a CLIFFHANGER and CAN BE READ without reading The Blood Trilogy, but it’s recommended to read all three previous books (Blood Captive, Blood Traitor, Blood Heir) to avoid any minor spoilers.

I’ll be honest, paranormal romances are not my usual and I’m generally a rom-com or contemporary romance girl. But after devouring The Blood Trilogy (the first 3 Blackthorne Vampire books) after they were recommended by some book friends, I knew with 100% certainty that I needed to jump in to Midnight Prince and start Lucas and Briar’s story.
Midnight Prince starts in the present, and then goes back in time to when Lucas and Briar first met. It is the first half of a duet, so you will need the follow-up, Midnight Hunger, to get the complete story. Good news – Midnight Hunger is already out now, so NO WAITING REQUIRED, which is good because trust me, you want to know how this all ends!
Kim Loraine writes really intriguing, original paranormal storylines. I’m definitely going to go back and listen to or read all of her other other works as well. Why? Because they are WELL WRITTEN!!! Well-developed plots, character development, stories that actually advance rather than getting into iterative loops, drama that serves a purpose rather than just drama for drama’s sake, I could go on and on on why they are well-written books, but trust me when I say that I am a stickler when it comes to the quality of the writing. Kim gives us characters that we simply crave from start to finish. We must know about them. We must know what drives them. We must know and soothe their hurt. We must experience them falling in love. We must root for them, even when on paper they seem slightly irredeemable. Lucas is a smarmy, witty, droll vampire that we got to know a bit in the original Blood trilogy, but we come to know him much more intimately here, and now we want him to have his own happily-ever-after.
From a narration standpoint, you simply cannot go wrong with Stella Hunter and Shane East. Shane has been a favorite of mine since I started listening to audio three years ago. Stella is relatively new to me, and she’s fantastic. They both bring so much humanity and emotion to their characters (which is funny considering they are a vampire and a werewolf, but you know what I mean).
Five ENTHUSIASTIC Stars because you don’t want to miss this one, trust me!
This story is PNR with Vampires, Shifters, Witches, and a lot of history. It helps if you have read/listened to the Blackthorne Vampires Series, but is definitely not necessary. I really enjoyed this first part of Lucas and Briar’s story! It is fraught with forbidden love, secret meetings, undeniable connection, intrigue, and devastating consequences. Beware that this story ends in a cliffhanger, so you will need to read/listen to Midnight Hunger next. Lucas is a deeply layered character and Kim does a great job of peeling them back so you will fall in love with this sexy vampire. Briar is young, sheltered and has a lot to learn about the world. Unfortunately, there are some tragic circumstances I found myself frustrated with her character, but when I remembered she is young with a lot to learn it made sense. Well worth your time!
Narration in duet is my favorite! Stella and Shane blend together and deliver great performances in this audiobook! I have listened a few times and will do so again.
This is the first installment in the Blackthorne Bloodlines, a vampire romance. This Series is set in the in the Blackthorne Vampires world, and is interconnected with The Blood Trilogy. I was looking for Lucas’s story, the Bastard Prince, after listening to The Blood Trilogy. Briar, is a shifter, and Lucas, is a vampire, and they are an amazing and unexpected couple! The storyline is intriguing, sexy, and suspenseful. Looking forward to listen to the next installment in the Series, Midnight Hunger. Shane East and Stella Hunter did a fantastic job with the narration. I enjoyed it.
This is K. Loraine’s best book yet. Lucas and Briar’s story was fantastic. This was sort of a taboo relationship because of their different species and existing problems within their groups. Even through all that they can’t help but be drawn to each other. I ended up listening to the audio book twice because the narrator’s were just so good at performing with the authors words. So many different accents and both narrators pull them off perfectly. Stella hunter is a new to me narrator and is fast becoming a favorite. She did such a good job as Briar and really brought out her tough side and showed how much of a fighter she was. Stella really made that come across in her performance. This was THE the best Shane East performance as a vampire I’ve heard so far. He was at his absolute best in this book with that growly sexy voice that just embodies Lucas Blackthorne. Both narrators put so much emotion into their performances I really didn’t want to stop listening.
Midnight Prince
Blackthorne Bloodlines #1 (The Blackthorne Vampires)
By: K. Loraine
Narrated by: Shane East, Stella Hunter
I was waiting for K. Loraine to give us Lucas’s story and she did not disappoint. Pull me in and keep me hooked, I could not stop listening. Lucas is a half breed and because of this, the expectations of him are different. He has been given a task, but he can’t even complete it the way his father intended. Briar is a shifter, and finds herself drawn to Lucas. But the two can’t be together. Different species, families that will never be together, these two are fated for failure. Plus her family has already promised her to someone else. What will become of this couple? I can’t even begin to say how much I love this book. It’s smart, sassy, sexy, and the plot captured my mind. Weaving the watchers in, letting us enjoy seeing characters from other series is just icing on the cake( this book does not require you to have read the others). This is my kind of entertainment and I am not even a paranormal listener! I can’t wait for Midnight Hunger to see how it all plays out!
K. Loraine picks her narrators carefully and casting Shane East and Stella Hunter is gold. East is the perfect voice for Lucas. He is warm and passionate, yet can instill fear in a heartbeat. I love his playful charm. Stella Hunter is fast becoming a favorite of mine as she finds the heart of her characters. As Briar, she is so strong and confident, and feels a fierce passion which is easily felt in her inflections. Fantastic performance and incredible team!

I loved this book.
It showed a good depth and alternate side to the main characters and I really enjoyed that the story weaves characters into the book from other novels without you having to have read the other books previous to reading this one.
Lastly, the depth of the character really makes you feel for them at the most emotional/troubling parts of their lives.
I’m not really a fan of paranormal books, but because this is by an author whose writing style I do enjoy, I decided to take a chance—and I’m glad I did! This is one of those books that are simply unputdownable! I could feel the emotions running Lucas and Briar: the love, the heartbreak; not to mention the conflict within themselves as they realized that they wanted one other as much as they shouldn’t be together. Be warned, though, that this book ends with a cliffhanger—though I’d say it’s a soft cliffhanger and not the I’m-at-the-edge-of-my-seat-and-must-have-the-next-book-yesterday type of cliffhanger. This book makes me want to explore this world more and read The Blood Trilogy while waiting for the next book!
Another thing worth mentioning is that Midnight Prince will be coming to audio with one of my favorite narrators, Shane East, narrating! I can’t wait to hear him say all the swoon-worthy lines in this book!
Midnight Prince is a contemporary paranormal romance written in dual first-person POV. It’s the first part of a series and ends with a cliffhanger. No cheating.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.
Such a great book absolutely loved it
I wasn’t sure if I wanted Lucas or one of the sisters story first but Midnight Prince was EVERYTHING I could want and more. Lucas was such a big figure in the last two books of Cashel and Olivia’s story and after everything he went through, he deserves his happily ever after.
Midnight Prince is the beginning of his story. This is before everything that happened in the first three books happened. So you are getting Lucas’s before story which makes why he is the way he, is make sense.
Lucas finds his equal in a shifter of all things. Briar is everything I could ask for in a mate for Lucas. She fights for him, with him, and has the chops to be his equal. But the fates have other plans right now for them. I can not wait for the next book in July!
Great start to this forbidden love series. Briar is a shifter who moves in next door to Luca and his family. Luca is a vampire from the Blackthorne vampire bloodline. Luca has had a rough life even though his family is royalty. But being a half-breed doesn’t exclude him from the family rules. All bets are off when Briar and Luca get together. But a shifter and a vampire cannot be together. Secrets and mysteries are throughout this story. I loved the forbiddenness of this story line and thought it was sad yet loving and my heart broke for Luca. At times there did not seem any hope for these two. Definitely recommend.

This is book four of the series, I suggest you read the previous ones to know more about the story but it can be read as standalone as it is the beginning of a new series as well. Lucas a vampire and Briar a wolf shifter, two species that are not supposed to be together but they are fated mates. I really enjoyed the book and the story, I wish they get to be in audiobook, it got me on a rollercoaster of paranormal romance that I loved. Great recommendation.
what happens when you intertwine a shifter and a vampire and forbidden love and then throw in the mix the two families dont like each other. This was a great read and I love all the intrigue, passion and drama of the story . I highly recommend it

This story has everything! Explosive passion, love, loss, heartbreak, drama, action, family duty and so much more. Lucas and Briar are my new favorite forbidden couple. Cannot wait for the next book! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. I loved every single page of it!
Midnight Prince is book four in the Blackthorne Vampire series and I definitely recommend you read the first three books so you fully understand what is going on. If you have read the series then you know who Lucas is and if you are like me you are happy to get his story. Lucas is a vampire and Briar a wolf, two species that should never be together but they are fated mates. This is an intense story filled with twists, heartbreak, secrets, steam and that ending left me wanting the next book now!
I loved this mixed PNR box the chemistry is hot and steamy and the characters are well developed and the storyline is well written even though this is the forth book I enjoyed reading it. I will however go back for the previous just to make sure I get the full effect of the series.

I’m loving Lucas’ story. There’s so much more to him than being half vampire, half human. I love Lucas and Briar’s connection. This story is intense and full of emotion. What a ride. Can a vampire and werewolf truly be sole mates? Will the families except it? Filled with heartache, betrayal, and love, this story will leave you with great anticipation for the next book.
Oh my! I wouldn’t have thought the books in this series could keep getting better but Lucas and Briar’s story is my new favorite! I just want Lucas to have his happy ever after so bad. The cliffhanger had me raging. I’m giving this 5 stars and I’m sure the conclusion will be 5 stars! Can’t wait!!
Poor Lucas… his story opens up with him being so cold, cruel and almost lifeless. A man morning the loss of someone he held dear. As the story proceeds Lucas’ past is revealed and the path that lead to who he is now is discovered.
It’s a heartbreaking tale of forbidden love that captured my attention and kept me turning the page.
If you like emotional, angsty yet slightly heartwarming reads that enthrall then I’d recommend this book. (4.5)
“She is my doom. She is my destiny. Unavoidable, impossible to deny, and painful to ignore.” This was really good. Unpredictable, many twists and turns, and well written. Can’t wait to read the next one to find out what happens.
