*I recieved a review copy in exchange for an honest review.*
I’m really impressed with the world building and character development in this novel. I found myself quickly attached to Ivy, and drawn into her story. She has a really broken past that has left her untrusting. I loved watching her grow as she learned that not everyone was bad.
I love Valerie Roeseler’s writing style. She really captures the essence of each character she creates with unique dialogue. She also has this incredible ability to create heart pounding action throughout the entire story. Not once was I bored, this was a true page turned.
I really enjoyed the fantasy/paranormal elements, and how the mysteries of Ivy’s past are brought around full circle. I think the loose ends that were meant to and needed to be tied up were. I think it’s great when the first book in a series can stand on its own.
I think my only complaint is the romances seem a bit instant. I can’t really get into it much because I don’t want to spoil. It got better toward the end when some of the mystery was revealed, and I’m interested to see how it continues.
Book 1 in the Helio Trilogy,
..a paranormal read with a NA/YA angst mixed in.
The light and dark intrigue me, kept me reading and wanting more…
Entering into a paranormal from a unknown author to me is one I like to do. You never know what you might discover. This one has a tidbit that captures your attention to open it up with you encountering Ivy and also Jack. The interaction with the two keeps your interest. Drama begins to happen with you following along. The one thing though is I found this to be too similar to others over the years but it does have its own angle. It has its own too great for the younger readers too. The struggle with good and evil is very much a picture too. If that is what you want no disappointment here.
I was going to read this in a group. Reading 3 chapters a day, Yay as soon as I started reading I didn’t stop (except when I had to feed my kids lol).
This was a fantastic book. It’s hard to believe this is the author 1st book. It was so good.
Ivy was a rebellious teen, she loves to street race her car. Then one day she crashes, she is hurt be not badly. She also finds out the she was adopted as a baby. She feels like she don’t even know who she is anymore. She decides to move and go to collage. Once there, she meets Jack, at a street race. She’s not racing, but Jack is and he can’t be beat. Ivy thinks he’s a player, and a jerk. But soon she realizes she might have been wrong about Jack, she is drawn to him. Ok I’ll stop there because I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone, But a whole lot happens that makes this a awesome story.
There is a twist, that Ivy may not be who she thinks she is. GRAB THIS BOOK!!! This is a fantastic book. The author tells a story that sucks you in and then spits up out. You’ll laugh (alot) and cry over the things that are happening. The only bad part is now I have to wait till December to read the next book.
Ivy’s story is incredible. This unassuming college student learns she is more than she could ever imagine and then some. I’m moving on to book 2.
I love new angel stories, and Ivy’s didn’t disappoint. Watching the transformation from withdrawn to finding a family was sweet.
This book was a trip! From start to finish at some points I had no clue what was going to happen, while others were pretty predictable. I have to say I really love Ivy’s character. She was strong, resilient, but had a heart of gold. Her friendships were great. Not only with Alice, but all the secondary characters. They added a dynamic to the story. There was action, which was amazing. Some steam, but it was mostly fade to black, which worked for the story. Overall, it was a good book. I plan to read more in the series. I’m not sure how I felt about the love triangle aspect. It was straight forward for the most part, but I’m twisted who who I like more. 4 Stars #2OCCJD
I loved the idea of Midnight Divine. Angels vs demons. Light vs dark. This book had a lot of good elements, and for the most part I was engaged.
I just had a difficult time connecting to Ivy. She’s selfish, reckless, and childish. Common sense does not exist in her head.
And it also felt like the world revolved around her 24/7. She’s special… I got it.
Another thing that bothered me was her ‘signature move.’ Headbutting enemies is a poor signature move. A signature move is Xena with her chakram. Wonder Woman with her golden lasso.
This book also connected sai with Egypt… but I’m pretty sure the weapons have a stronger historical connection to Japan…. or Ninja Turtles.
Am I interested in continuing this series? My answer is…. yes. I am curious to see where this will go. Hopefully the characters are more developed in the next book.
