This was a dark dirty story of an out of control rock star who because of his bad choices needs a minder to keep him alive. They is much abuse in the telling of the story. But just when he thinks he has it all, the love of a good woman, hidden secrets take it all away. Will He be able to get the help he needs to reclaim the one woman who he lost?
Be prepared for an angsty rollercoaster of an emotional ride.
Alex Winslow is a special kinda of man who I was hating from the moment we are introduced to him.
The man is so messed up but reading further, the understanding of why he is the way he is, my heart felt for him.
Still, damn he was a stubborn hard head to treat Indie the way he did.
Indie is literally a Saint! I do not know how she did it with putting up with Alex. We find out why and understand but seriously she was my hero for staying with Alex.
Be prepared for an emotional mixture of love, hate and lust for Alex.
Go click this book and find out if Indie can endure and follow through with keeping Alex straight as well as falling in love with him.
Omg, THIS BOOK! It swallowed my heart and my soul. My emotions were all over the place. I laughed. I cried. I highlighted line after line. I thought I was going to lose my mind while reading the last few chapters. When was the last time you hugged your Kindle because the book you just finished was so incredible? Well, it’s official. I’m a Kindle hugger.
Midnight Blue is utterly addicting. This rock romance rocked my world. All the feels. Midnight Blue will be on my best of 2018 list. Thank you, LJ Shen!
Midnight Blue is amazing, hands down the best bad boy rocker read and I’m not really into rock romance but damn this book was written so well that you don’t want to put it down, loved Alex and Indie.
The perfect rock romance. LJ, you sucked me in and devoured me.
So I was REALLY pleasantly surprised at how good this book was! It’s rare an author can make an alpha-hole who is a complete bastard turn into a lovable character! I really, REALLY liked this. Like I could not turn off the audiobook, that’s how enthralled I was. Surprised I haven’t read this author before.
Another book by Leigh Shen that I love so much! It’s the second time I’ve read Midnight Blue and another one of her books that I could read again and again and still love it just as much as the first time I read it. You rock sister
Midnight Blue
@authorljshen
After losing her parents in a tragic accident, Indie is living with her brother & his family. They are struggling to make ends meet. Indie applies for a job as an assistant & is offered the job. However, the job isn’t what it seems- she’s assigned to be a sobriety companion for Alex Winslow, a famous rockstar, while on tour. She accepts the job & is determined to keep it because she needs the money for her family. Indie & Alex are constantly at each other’s throats because neither refuses to back down. Alex never expected the strong feelings to develop & Indie had no idea their connection ran so much deeper than only a job.
This story was so different from the rockstar romances I’ve read the past. Alex is a crude, arrogant asshole who thinks he’s invincible. But, of course, he had me swooning by the end. His British accent may have helped some too
There were a lot of dark, difficult topics in this book that may be hard for some to read, but the overall message is beautiful. No matter how low you sink or what has happened in your past- you can overcome it & live your best life.
“Once upon a time, a mere mortal fell in love with a rock god. You probably know this is not a fairy tale by now. Mortals and gods don’t mix.”
Wow, L. J. Shen did it again. She gave us a strong and beautiful, yet a tortured and crazy love story.
The contrast between the two of them: Alex Winslow, hot British rock star, Casanova and serial heartbreaker, the bad boy with an attitude and a proclivity for drug, alcohol and women. He is the kind of guy, fathers warn their daughters about, and then we have Indigo Bellamy. The sweetest girl, kind and with a beautiful soul, to pure for the world of Alex Winslow’s. She just want to help her brother and maybe, just earn enough money to make her dream come true: own a thrift shop. And for that to happen, she sold her sold to the devil, and signed a contract to babysit Alex on his next tour. And then, all went south.
I love a girl who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, and this is one of the thinks that I loved about Indie, she wasn’t afraid of Alex. She can deal with Alex in a way many can’t, and refuses to get scared by him and back down. She’s a fighter and will never let down! Of course, Alex likes the challenge and pushes back harder, without realizing that little by little, Indie is slowly making room in his heart.
I did not see that plot twist coming, I knew there was a reason I disliked Fallon from the beginning. I felt so sorry for Indie, neither she or her family deserved what happened to them, but this thing also happens in life: sometimes bad things happen to good people, who do not deserve it.
I admit, I wanted to punch Alex a few times, there were some scenes in the book that reminded me of the movie “A Star is Born”, and I was afraid that it was going to end almost in the same way. But in the end, Alex put on the big boy pants, and got all his s**t together, and most importantly he GOT THE GIRL!
This is an amazing story, I loved it! L.J. Shen is brilliant! The Narrators for the audiobook also did a fantastic job bringing this wonderful story to life.
…he had the power to sweep and ruin you, two things I was too busy surviving to entertain.
So I have had it on my kindle for like ever.. But thanks to a great friend I finally started it… the same friend who originally told me of this amazing author. I will say this.. Leigh you did it again! Made me fall for one of your A$$holes..
I will say this, it took me a hot minute to actually like Alex (like at least 1/2 the book or more). I thought he was just one of your typical a$$hole rockers, he as cruel, vindictive.. but the more I got into the book the more I found I just loved him. (I loved the hallway scenes at midnight)
Indiago.. what can I say.. I absolutely loved her and her wild spirit. Indie is in a tough spot. Her parents were killed by a hit and run driver when she and her brother were younger.. she is staying with her brother and sister in law and little nephew.. her brother is now jobless and has turned to drinking.. and her nephew needs a procedure.. things are tight and tough right now for Indie.. but when she sees a ad and lands this amazing opportunity to get themselves out of the problems they are in.. will she take it? See She has been basically been hired to a glorified babysit of one Alex Winslow… she needs to keep him sober on all fronts… drugs, alcohol.. you name it.. if she can fulfill this 3 mo contract she will get 300K
This book is a Must Read!! Not sure why it took me so long but sure glad I did!!
Midnight Blue is one of my favorite books when it comes to rock star romance. Like seriously, I didn’t expect to like it so much and I regretted that I left it hanging for almost a year. To be honest, the first time I read Midnight Blue, I was able to read it for like 10% and then I stopped. I couldn’t really remember why I did it, but I did. However, a few months ago, my friend told me that Midnight Blue is literally her favorite book by LJ and so I decided to give it a try once again. OH MY GOD, if I could time travel, then I would knock some senses to the old me for not continuing reading the rest of the book.
First of all, everything about this book is amazing. The entire plot is very interesting which attracts the readers from the very first page. However, what makes this book so much engrossing is the characters. In this book, you can’t help but fall in love with most of the characters including the side characters. Like seriously, I think LJ did a great job in creating these characters because all of them have their own issues that they are struggling with. Also, I absolutely adore and enjoy the relationship and chemistry between Alex and Indie and how they were able to heal each other despite their struggles.
Overall, everything about this book is extremely breathtaking and emotional. There are a few times where my heart was aching because of the perfect amount of angst that LJ has delivered in the story. I can’t even describe the writing in this story because it was so beautifully written and I can’t help but truly appreciate every single word in this book. I seriously recommend everyone to read this book especially if you’re a big fan of rock star romance trope. This book is literally perfect for you but make sure to be emotionally ready before starting this book *wink* *wink*.
This book was wonderful! Absolutely loved it! Alex and Indy were so perfect for each. They had great chemistry and loved the banter between the two. Like every LJ Shen book, it will make you laugh, want to scream at how infuriating Alex is being and cry about how damaged each characters is. Amazing story and the best narrators! Muffy and Shane were amazing and a perfect fit for these characters. They brought the story to life and hooked you in from the start! Definitely worth a listen!
spoiler alert
Omg i loved this book so hard !
Indie is such a great character and i loved seeing the world through her eyes ,she is still able to to see the good in the world ,she lives in a shit show but she is still able to wear her heart on her sleeve and open her heart up to people ,she is able to show Alex that life isn’t what he has always viewed as ,she shows him so much and in the end he is able to be the guy who deserves to get the girl !
I love Alex ,he is a total asshole but i still love him,a lot of shit went down and he kinda gave up and just turned to drinking and drugs but in the end he finds something even more addecting then that and it’s a girl named Indigo ,she sees things in him that he doesn’t see in himself and she shows him that the world can be ugly but beautiful at the same time ,she fights for him and in the end he is finally able to fight for her too !
I loved their story,it was beautiful and painful and so great to see them find their happy ending !
L.J. Shen is such a great storyteller and i can’t not wait to read more from her 🙂
Amazing ! I love it !
Thanks to Kindle Unlimited I fell onto this book and am so happy I did! It’s a great bad boy/redemption story with a sweet but strong leading lady, counter-balancing her brash, self-centered rocker love interest. Bonus (for those of us who have a serious pet-peeve), it has little to no grammatical errors, making it a quick and easy read.
This book was one of LJ’s best. This book was up and down, back and forth the whole time. It was a ride. The story of Indie and Alex isn’t easy or flowery. It’s love/hate and the characters are perfectly imperfect.
Alex is a bad boy rock star and its Indie’s job to keep him out of trouble. Alex does not make the job easy for her.
I loved these characters. I loved that no matter what Alex did and how he treated her, Indie did not change. She was who she was and was not going to be different so that a famous rock star would fall in love with her or so they would get along better. I also love that Alex didn’t miraculously change to became a better person. He was broken and needed to get help. This book showed that changing isn’t an easy road and it does not happen over night. Alex had to work on himself before he could be the person that he needed to be and the person Indie deserved.
I loved this book start to finish and would read again.
OMG! This book has taken pieces of my soul with it, just like Alex did with Indigo, it’s a book that will leave you yearning for this kind of love, it will give you all the feelings….
There were times that I had to put the book down and just calm myself down because it was so much, other times to rant about things happening and shouting to the characters as if that will change the course of the story…
I feel every emotion as if I where there as if I was living the pain, the love, the sorrow, the anger, the happiness all many emotions mixed together that will wrecked you for other future reads.
This is the first book I read of L.J. Shen but it definitely won’t be the last.

“Once upon a time, a mere mortal fell in love with a rock god.

Wow… This book!!!!
This book was such a beautiful, emotional rollercoaster with a broken prince and a sweet lovable girl who gave her soul to him to do whatever he wanted with it!!!!
But not her soul only…. Her body too…. Her heart…. Her whole existence….
“I don’t want to fall in love with you…”
“You don’t seem to have much choice.”
Honestly guys, I’m kicking my ass for all L.J. Shen’s books that I haven’t read yet, because I was too busy or I had too many other books to read….
Thank God, I had read then her first “Tyed” and I fell in love with it, but then i forgot… And now, this book made me to remember and to crave all Mrs. Shen’s other books!!!!
God, this book was so wonderful but in a messy, broken way….
Alex Winslow was fucked up in a creative way…. He was a rock star god. He was an addict and he hated his life. Literally….
His only refuge, music, was no longer inside of him because as he thought he was soulless… and all those things were leading to his destruction….
So, the people around him thought that he was in need of a babysitter to stay clean and somber from booze and drugs….
“Restless. Why the fuck was I restless? She was nothing to me. And yet, she was obviously something.”
Indigo “Stardust” Bellamy was having not an easy life the last years…
After her parent’s death before four years, hers and her brother’s life had changed…
She needed money and in order to have them, she had to accept to be the hanny (=hot nanny, as Alex was reffering to her!!!) of a spoiled, cocky and spiteful rock star…
She knew how to hold her place, but unfortunately, she couldn’t tame her own heart not to fall for him…
“For the first time in a long time, I knew I was in deep trouble.
Something I couldn’t control.
Because Alex Winslow was a broken vase.
But I wasn’t the glue. I was the stupid cleaner who was about to try to pick up the pieces and, inevitably, get cut.”
So, Alex and Indie had to be in each other throat for three whole months, until the end of the tour, how that’s suppose to go???
I really loved their midnight time together…. while they created magic together….
And i loved the lyrics that were popping out through the whole book!!!!
“Alex Winslow was both and addict and an addiction. Pure and wild…” {Indie}
“I put her under my spell, to make sure she was mine. Scribbling onto her the notes only I could play. Now that Tania was gone, Stardust was my main instrument. And it saddened me, because I knew I had to break her, too.” {Alex}
I really loved this book, from the beginning till the end…
I think that L.J. Shen built the relationship between Alex and Indie very well and in real time….
They didn’t know, but they were perfect for each other…
I loved Alex’s confusing way of thought and even though that most of the time was such an arsehole, his hidden soul was shining bright…
As for Indie??? That girl was extraordinary!!!
She was sweet, kind, lovely, but at the same time, she was stubborn and she wasn’t holding back….
I loved her crazy hair and crazy styling!!!!
As you can understand, I loved everything in this book!!!! Hahaha…
“In my mind, we were two asteroids orbiting around each other. I thought I was the sun and you were earth, but now I see I got it all mixed up. You were always the sun. And even now, when I look at you, I don’t see regret and pain and suffering. I see the biggest opportunity, the sweetest promise, the road I should be taking.” {Alex}
“That’s the thing about broken princes. Not all of them have to die. If their soul is whole, they sometimes survive. Sometimes, they even grow up to be kings. Mine did.” {Indie}
I have to add that the secondary characters were also very good, even though that they were a bit of assholes…. They had their reasons, even though their ways weren’t right!!!!

“I don’t want your yesterday.
And would never expect your tomorrow.
But if we can have today, I will show you what love tastes like.
And maybe, just maybe, we’ll forget about all our sorrows.”

I feel like this book embodies what I’ve wanted from L.J. Shen from the beginning but have never quite received: the angst and the imperfection without the unforgivable acts and dark romance elements that sometimes materialize in her work.
Shen has proven many times over that she is a compelling writer; her stories aren’t superficial, they have the ability to dig deep and wholly inhabit you. I enjoyed the narrative arc, and thought that the connection between Indie and Alex was very powerful. Fans of Shen’s won’t be disappointed, and those of us who may have been a bit on the fence can jump on over to the Shen side of things.
