Shen, comes a new, standalone, contemporary romance. It should have been easy.I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.I … babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.

“Every book has a soul, the soul of the person who wrote it and the soul of those who read it and dream about it”
So by this standards, a piece of Leigh’s soul and my soul have been left inside Alex Winslow’s story. He’s a Little Prince and you know what happens to Little Princes , they live a sad, depressive life and then wither away. Not unless they meet a blue haired, quirky beauty, a hanny (hot nanny) whose job is to shadow him, babysit him and keep him clean.
Their journey is fraught with temper tantrums, heartbreaks, concerts, midnight rendezvous in the hallway and inspiration. She becomes his MUSE, his life, his soul. Something to replace Tania. She’s pure and sensible, two things Alex is not !!
The story was not very unique but Leigh’s writing made it . She’s certainly matured as a writer. The story doesn’t pack much content but the treatment and emotions with sweep you away like ocean tides. Beautiful words are scattered like wildflowers on a mountainside. Abundant and colourful.
I loved And connected more with Indigo ” Stardust” Bellamy, who’s as unique as her name.
“Midnight Blue,Illicit and elegant at the very same time.”
In Leigh’s own words “Arseholery is an art” and she has perfected the art of creating assholes. Maybe she keep them tied up In her basement, dishing them out,one book at a time!
Everybody wants to be a rock star. It’s the closest thing to being a god, but what people often forget is that God has a hectic job. God creates. Twenty-four-fucking-seven. God is worshipped. God is expected to answer, to deliver, to reassure. And when God is sent to earth to deal with humans? Well, God is bound to disappoint.
I loved the broken characters and their journey and their flawed lives.
Thank you Leigh for Alex and Indie

Midnight Blue is everything you expect from one of LJ Shen’s men. Jerk with a side most never see. (I edited my name calling for the sake of propriety.)
He is the bad boy rocker on a downward spiral that will land him on the “Where are they now?” shows if he doesn’t clean up his act. Except He, Alex Winslow, doesn’t feel he needs to. He doesn’t want to. He doesn’t care. So now he has a babysitter…
A chip the size of England on his shoulder and a world that owes him everything…sounds divine- right? (He’s British- so accent!!!!)
She needs to help get her family back on track. She needs the job. She needs the money. She doesn’t need his shit. It’s an uphill battle on every front.
It’s the perfect storm. It’s something neither saw coming. It’s everything. It’s smile inducing, stupid grin making happiness. It’s heartache, hurt, and realism. There’s hate, hurt, and pain. There’s very fond feelings, lust, and need.
And there’s Midnight Blue…

“If you leave me,” he said, “you take my soul with you.”
What can I say about this book that hasn’t already been said? Probably nothing…. so I may be saying things you have already heard……. Its hot! Alex is everything! Indie is badass! She really does know just how ti handle Alex. It made me swoon. It made me cry. It made me gasp in shock. There really were quite a few bombs dropped all in the span of 2 chapters! It was fantastic. I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up way past my bedtime……
Like I said, you have probably heard it all. So then all I can say is why haven’t you read it yet??? You are missing out on one of the best books of the year. (I do think this will be on quite a few “best of 2018” lists). So I strongly suggest you go now and get your copy so you can feel your heart flutter when you meet Alex, and be totally jealous of Indie for having the chance to be with someone like him.
OMG! OMG! OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS! Where in the HECK is that THOUSAND star rating button because if any book deserves that high of praise it would certainly be this one!
Midnight Blue by LJ Shen was an addictively captivating read that will capture a reader whole body and soul. I seriously cannot stop thinking about Indie and Alex even though I finished their beautifully intense story days ago. This story broke me. It tore my heart right out of my chest and held on for dear life until the very end. In many ways I feel as if my heart is still trapped inside my kindle just waiting for another book to capture it as much as this story did. Although I don’t think that will every be possible. I think that LJ Shen may have forever ruined be for any one of her future characters because these two will forever hold a special place in deep in my heart.
This story left me absolutely speechless and I know hands down that it will stay in my top 5 reads of 2018! The moment I turned on my kindle and saw this book was downloading I immediately wanted to drop everything and dive in, but I forced myself to “adult” for the rest of the day and around 11pm I allowed myself to snuggle up with Alex. I knew right from the beginning that it was going to take every ounce of my willpower to put down this book once I started. Let me just say that it was damn near impossible and I literally stayed up until my kindle smacked me in the face because I could hardly keep my hands on it. Of course the moment my eyes opened up a few hours later my eyes were glued to the screen until I turned to the last page.
Indie and Alex are truly unlike any book couple I have ever met. They just have this intensity that is really hard to explain and I must say that it defiantly needs to be discovered firsthand by the reader. Now that I’ve blabbed a ton about their story I have to leave you with this message – “Go and buy Midnight Blue right this very second! I mean it. Do it. NOW! Trust me you will not regret your decision.”
This book will make you feel all the feels……my heart went on such a roller coaster ride of emotions with Indie and Alex, that it will be difficult to move on from them. Midnight Blue is an incredibly written story, with some of the most amazing characters you will ever read about. Simply put, this is hands down my absolute favorite book from LJ Shen.
Alex is your typical bad boy rocker. He is assigned a babysitter named Indigo. As to be expected he was not happy and was such a jerk to Indigo in the beginning. I loved that Indigo wasn’t a pushover. She gave it right back to Alex and it was nice to see how much sass she had when dealing with him. I really liked Indigo because life for her was rough but no matter how crappy the hand she was dealt she put her others needs first before hers. I loved how selfless Indigo was even if she got hurt in the process. When Alex wasn’t being a jerk to everyone there was a different side to him, a vulnerable, lost soul and I wanted to hug him as I kept reading the story.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read the rockstar genre and this was a good book to get me back. This story held my attention and the writing was solid. Shen’s description of the places they visited had me feeling like I was right there with the characters. My only minor issue with the book was that I had a hard time feeling their connection as a couple. I liked them both separately but something was missing for me when it came to them being together. With that being said this was still a good read and I can tell L.J. Shen put her whole heart into writing this story.
I am embarrassed to admit that this is the first book I have read by LJ Shen. I feel like I have been living under a rock and need to fix this ASAP! Midnight Blue was a beautiful, haunting tale that was so full of emotion and angst. It was everything you want in a rock star romance — raw, hot, broken characters.. it is just everything!
Absolutely love, loved this book. Alex is almost like little boy lost, in a situation he doesn’t want to be in. His escape, drugs and alcohol. A DUI puts him in rehab and he doesn’t handle sober well. His agent and PR gives him a babysitter of sorts and that’s something he likes even less than sobriety. He managed to run off previous babysitters but his most recent Indigo AKA Indy was not so easy to get rid of. Indy has her own important reasons for taking the job. They clash about 85% of the time but the other 15% is absolute beautiful chaos. The things they come up with and do is stunning to see and amazing to FEEL. L.J. Shen writes it in a way that you can’t help but feel what they’re feeling. This book is beautifully written and the characters are amazingly flawed but who in this world aren’t? It shows the journey of two people trying to make sense of their lives in the path they have taken. Its not an easy road for either of them but it’s one they made. This is one book you should definitely read.
This is an angst filled read that’ll tear you apart before it finally, finally puts you back together!!
Indigo is a beautiful soul, caring, full of giving but at heart she’s shy, a loner & likes the quiet. 4years ago her world changed overnight when a drunk driver killed her parents in a hit & run. Her big brother has taken care of her & now his wife & toddler
but he’s unemployed, drinking all the time, they’re all living in a 1bedroom condo & money is extremely tight. The little one needs ear tubes to alleviate his multiple ear infections too.
Alex Winslow is a Rock God & an addict. He’s addicted to cocaine, alcohol & his ex. He doesn’t trust anyone, he lies constantly & feels like he’s lost his soul along the way to his Superstardom.
Indigo becomes Alex’s sober companion/babysitter on his 3 month tour. She needs the money to help her family & he needs to stay clean to save his career!! They’re the opposite of what each other needs or wants but she becomes his Muse & he becomes her way to look outside of her small life.
Her innocence & pure heart intrigue & appeal to him but he feels the need to defile it & her. He wants to borrow her soul because his is so lost. His ‘Stardust’ as he calls her, swears he can’t have her. She’ll be his Muse, he can use her for many things but they cant take that final step or she won’t survive it!! The best laid plans…… *Sigh*
This story has layers upon layers which have more layers underneath them!! It’s a gritty & at times, disturbing read but at all times you feel for both Alex & his Stardust. They are so perfectly in sync with each other on this tour that it seems nothing could derail them except for themselves. That’s when the Author throws all the spanners into the works!! The remainder of the book is heartbreaking Until it’s not
You will regret not reading this book, don’t live with regret

Midnight Blue is currently The best book LJ Shen has written to date. Raw, Intense, gripping, and unbelievably gut-wrenching this story will have you hooked until the very end and leave you with one massive book hang-over.
While its a known fact that she write the most amazing tortured alpha a$$holes, I never expected that VISCIOUS could ever have been replaced as my all time favorite, however ALEX WINSLOW was all that and more.
Let talk about the characters, Alex and Indigo could not have been more different yet together they created magic. I loved how LJ Shen made it difficult for us to love or even like Alex yet you still had to fall in love with him and I loved how Indie was different.
This story unfolded in pieces and as we learned more it was easy to fall in love with these well-developed complex characters. In the beginning Alex was just a typical over privileged rock-star and Indigo was the sassy nanny hired to keep him out of trouble. Their attitude towards each other made for some intense moments and interesting reading. However as time passed, the chemistry between them started sizzling until it became an inferno. Wow….these two were so hot.
The secondary characters were also all amazing and provides support and balance to the H&h. I loved their stories within this story and they all just made this book so much better.
This novel had so much happening that you felt like you were there with the characters. It was descriptive and detailed, and in typical LJ Shen style where nothing is ever straightforward or easy, so unpredictable that at times you were left stunned and speechless.
There aren’t enough words to accurately describe how much I loved this story. It will captivate you and hold you hostage but you will love every moment of it.
This was a phenomenal read worth way more than 5-stars and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
*I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel*
“Until the very last note.”
I devoured Midnight Blue and was totally useless to anyone or anything around me until the very last page. I’ve read more books than I can count, and some are more special than others. Some I still remember, and others I’ve forgotten. This one I’m going to buy in paperback and place on my ‘special’ shelf so I can sigh and fondle it on occasion as I remember how wonderful it is.
Indigo, who doesn’t answer to that name, is a tiny piece of dynamite. She prefers to be called Indie but has been known to acknowledge a few other nicknames such as Blue and Stardust. She’s struggling financially and feeling responsible for her family who isn’t able to make ends meet, so she applies for a job that would solve all their problems. As she jumps through all the hoops of the interview process she has no idea what’s expected of her, or who she will be working for. But she doesn’t care, she’s desperate. When she learns that the job is to babysit sexy rockstar Alex Winslow she knows she’s in trouble. When she’s warned not to fall in love with him, she agrees. Good luck with that, right?
Alex is under no illusion about himself. “Asshole Behavior 101, I trademarked that shit.” He’s rude and abrasive on purpose. He’s run off all the other babysitters within a few days and when he sees the tiny sprite with the blue hair and the vintage dress he figures she won’t even make it a few hours. Not if he does it right. He’s proud of the fact that, “He’d managed to create beef with every person with a pulse in Hollywood.” Nobody was more surprised than him when she stood up to him, even though, “She was five nothing. She was practically at eye level with my crotch.” Needless to say he found her intriguing. Someone to torment other than his bandmates when faced with boredom and writer’s block.
Indie tried to keep her distance and not allow herself to become attached. Recognizing that, “Alex Winslow was beautiful in a way storms were–only from afar.” But she was unable to resist Alex’s tortured soul. She wanted to mend him like she did her dresses, but he was too broken for her to fix. When he showed her his charming side, her heart forgot to hate him. When he called her his muse and wrote beautiful heartbreaking songs she forgot everything.
Three.
Two.
One.
If you are a lover of rockstar romance like I am, you will be in heaven reading this story. The music industry details and song lyrics are amazing. The band members and support characters had me laughing, shouting and sighing in turn. The emotion and passion shared by Alex & Indie had me wringing my hands and wiping my brow. I fell hard for these characters. I was totally invested in their journey and didn’t want it to end. As I glanced at the numbers at the bottom of my Kindle, the closer to 100% I got, the slower I read. Not wanting it to be over, wishing I was at a concert and able to shout and clap for an encore. This fangirl is ready for more of whatever the author has for us next. The line forms here…

Truth be told, it’s been a long time since I’ve read a Rockstar romance. That’s not because I don’t like them, more so because I seem to have a set standard for the novels I read that have that particular storyline. So when I read the blurb for MIDNIGHT BLUE, I had this feeling that L.J.Shen was going to be able to challenge that standard…and let me tell you…she exceeded that criterion and then some! I am completely blown out of this world…into another galaxy…by how much I FLOVED this story! I was utterly consumed by it while reading…just BLOODY BRILLIANT! The fighting, the banter, the enemies to lover’s angle…it all worked out to be one heck of an addictive book. The writing was flawless with a completely unique plot. The characters were damaged in their own unique ways, but yet SO lovable. (I even loved some of the secondary characters!) This is a Rockstar romance masterpiece that EVERYONE must read! I know it’s only the first month in the new year, but this novel is definitely going to make my top fav at the end of the year! MIDNIGHT BLUE was a soul seeking, emotional ride that gripped my heart, body, mind and soul throughout and didn’t let it go. Alex Winslow will forever have a piece of my soul, even though he was probably the biggest arsehole I’ve read to date. ONE CLICK THIS BAD BOY NOW! You will NOT be disappointed! Just be warned, Alex will take your soul and not let it go!

5 top of the chart glorious stars! I’m absolutely blown away by this story we’re taken on one hell of a ride filled with so much emotion and love playing throughout the story. Indigo is doing what no other has been able to accomplish, be the sitter for Alex Winslow and keep him sober and drug free. I was consumed with this book, learning about both Indie and Alex’s pasts has left me heartbroken more then once.
To see where they both started out and where they are today you feel for them, you’re both happy and devastated at the same time. There’s a connection that develops and continues to grow little by little, once the clock turns midnight truths are revealed and things are forever changed. I’m left with happy tears as we come to the conclusion. This story is beautifully written and will not leave your heart anytime in the near future. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Alex Winslow is everything I imagine a rockstar being. He’s egotistical, he’s an a$$hole, and he’s entitled. But that’s just the exterior to Alex Winslow. Way..way…down deep there is a boy who wants to be loved and wanted, but doesn’t know how to accept those emotions.
After two trips to rehab for a cocaine addiction, Alex Winslow is not to be trusted. Enter Indigo his new hanny (Hot Nanny). Indie is unlike any woman Alex has ever met. She’s pure and innocent without a single malicious bone in her body. Alex is dead set on tainting all of that good but Indie has other ideas, she’s going to resist him and his rockstar charm, because she needs this job to support her brother, his wife, and her nephew.
Being honest, This novel was really long but with a complex character like Alex, I understand why. Alex extremely pissed me off at the beginning, but the more I read his point of view and got that inside look into his thought process, my rage towards him turned into sympathy and sadness. Deep inside he’s just a boy who’s scared to move on from the one thing he thought would last forever (Fallon). My heart legit broke for him.
Indigo is a special character. In a way she’s playing the part of a free spirit with her hipster hair and her handmade clothes, Internally though, she’s a free spirit chained to her home by her brother and the horrible accident that took her parents away and ruined not only her future but her life. Indie’s strength is something to be talked about. She is the ultimate for putting up with Alex’s bullshit along with dealing with her home life bullshit all at the same time.
Alex and Indigo together had my heart pounding in my chest. I loved the back and forth endless banter between the two. I loved Indie’s patience toward Alex and Alex’s impatience towards Indie.
There are so many damn twists in this novel, it had my head spinning. Some twists I saw coming and others I had predicted.
Overall, Midnight Blue by L.J. Shen blew me away! I loved the complexity, the romance, and the enemies to lovers vibe. This is a novel that I highly recommend to all romance readers.
Wasn’t sure how I would feel about a new leading man from LJ Shen after meeting the 4 HotHoles last year, but I shouldn’t have worried because Alex came across as crass and uncaring almost like Vicious, but by the end he managed to redeem himself, but it was a long, hard fought battle. Alex isn’t easy to like at the start, he is the poster child for spoiled, entitled celebrities. indie is brought in as his newest babysitter. All Indie wants is to take care of her family the best way she can, and if becoming the babysitter for the music industry’s resident bad boy is the way to do, she’s onboard. Of course neither one plan on falling in love with each other, but Indie seems to bring about some sort of peace for Alex and his demons. Unfortunately secrets came to light that involved both Indie and Alex and how their lives intersected well before they actually met. I was impressed with Indie’s character and her ability to move past the secrets; it obviously wasn’t easy, but there are some things in life you just have to learn to forgive in order to be able to have peace in your life.
My heart is FULL . Reading Midnight Blue was quite the journey. Once again L.J. Shen gives her whole in this book and it shows. I’m so in awe with the woman who first begun with Tyed! I’ve seen her grow and become the incredible writer and storyteller she is now. Each book she writes is better than the previous one. Each book she writes is different with maybe one common trait, the guy is jerk with a heart.
Meet Alex Winslow, Rock God, addict and a total douche to every single person around him. Don’t except him to welcome you in his waiting arms because he won’t. Don’t expect him to go easy on you… you react the wrong way and you’ve already lost But keep pushing, be real, natural and maybe you’ll get a chance.
Meet Indie Belamy, innocent, pure but not one to let someone control her life or tell her what to do. Life is not easy but she never complained. Selfless, she only care for her family and their well-being. Young but already mature, she is one of my fav’ heroine LJ wrote about.
I devoured this book as fast as I could. If it wasn’t because work kept me busy I would have taken a day off to keep reading. The book has a good amount of angst. Questions were popping into my mind all the time even when I was not reading, I was thinking about the damn book all the time.
Alex was a complex character you might not like at the first Here’s the thing with me. When I start a book, I’m in the state of mind where I like all characters for the better or the worse. So Alex might be a complete asshole, I still dig enough to see what was underneath. And you should too because he has a beautiful soul. Under all his cockiness, there’s someone broken, someone who needs help even he doesn’t want it.
Him and Indie together was maybe not meant to be – but the more they spend time together the more it’s obvious they have something to offer to the other. And here’s the thing with this book, you feel all the different emotions. All of them Midnight Blue was a success to me because you it felt real, because it felt like I was really watching two people discovering each other and falling deep into what they expected the least, especially for Alex.
This is by far one of the BEST rockstar romance I’ve ever read! If you love the genre, it should be a no brainer.
I love this book, so freakin good. And the cover makes you drool. Can’t help but want to read it, hold it in your hands and imagine that was you 😛 Love, so have to read ladies. I promise, you will want to over and over again. <3
All I can say is this is one awesome book. Hands down one of the best books I have read in along time. So I say get it and enjoy it. You will not be disappointed.
*4 Stars*
Wow. What a roller coaster this book is. I was definitely intrigued about this one after I had read the blurb. I mean, the storyline is great, a girl who basically has nothing, who has to babysit a drug addict rockstar for 3 months, but also try not to fall in love with him? Oh boy.
I liked Indie – she was no-nonsense and I loved her back talking to Alex. She was a breath of fresh air amidst the whole rock star, famous people mentality she was surrounded by. Of course she’s bound to get sucked into it all.
But moth, meet flame. Alex and Indie are so good together yet I was waiting for the train wreck to happen the entire time. And when it did, I wasn’t even surprised. The big moment that caused it, I saw that coming too. It was the perfect way to upend everything they had been building on together.
Alex is such a mess. Just, wow. He knows it too, he just doesn’t seem to care. Until it all comes crashing down that is. I really enjoyed the ending of the book. I feel like things tied together nicely and we got a bit of closure on pretty everything going on in the book. There were some things I didn’t expect, but most of all, the story was one big roller coaster and had some very intense moments.
This is my first full length novel from Leigh (having previously only read The End Zone in the Team Player Anthology), but it won’t be my last. Definitely recommend this one, particularly if you’re a fan of the rockstar romance trope.
I couldn’t put this book down!
