LOVED this!!! Vicious is my book boyfriend now
I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Ok first off, the cover is amazing. Just kidding, this book was so well written I didn’t have a moment where I had to stop and read the same sentence over again. Her writing is so fluid and calculated. You know when you have something you need to write down? This review is one of those things. I started this review before the book was over. The tension between the main characters was so beautifully shown in her words. The story was original and felt very real. You have a love/hate relationship with Alex, he shows you his soul one minute and makes you think he is a worthless arsehole the next (he is British).
Indie’s story is tragic and she is vulnerable even though she feels she is tough. You expect one thing from this book because it is a romance but you get an incredible heart wrenching twist. Fate.
I don’t think my words can do this book justice. I love this story and so glad I had the opportunity to read it. Thank you to The Book Worm Box.
P.S. not for young readers, there are many hot and sexy scenes to keep you more than entertained.
GET THIS BOOK!
Loved this story and couldn’t put it down. The story of Indie and Alex keeps you enthralled throughout and remains with you for days after. There’s a few surprises along the way and some very emotional scenes as we see the characters deal with some very difficult things. This is one ‘rocker romance’ that you definitely need to read, but don’t expect it all to be about hearts and roses.
LJ Shen writes alpha males (asshole) so well you can’t help but love them.
It took me awhile before falling for Alex as he’s a complete self-absorbed asshole yes I have read worse (cough, Vicious).
She also writes great female. I hate whiny weak females with no backbone and Indie isn’t one of these. I love the banter between her and Alex he’s thinking he can get her to quit, (she’s been assigned as his babysitter) she’s thinking he can go fuck himself.
I love this love/hate relationship I wanted to see where this goes how they go from frenemy to Lovers.
When things are going swimmingly well I wanted to read the moment when shit hits the fans.
Wow did not see that coming.
FIVE + 5 STARS—- (IT WAS THAT GOOD)
This book was so well written and so entertaining. I loved the main characters.
wonderful story, wonderful development, twists that kept my interest.
I loved the heroine, she was not the typical beauty, of a romance novel.
She was strong, a quiet strength. Focused on her goal, to help her family.
The hero Alex, was a real jerk… But …. through this skilled writers pen, we got him, we understood him. Life had made him who he was. We also fell for him.
Loved this book, it was so well developed and not over the top dramatic and far
fetched. L J-Shen—– you got me hooked on your books.
Loved this book, the main charcters will stay with you like old friends.
Very interesting read. Lots of twists and turns but great story!! Loved the heroine from the beginning
‘m really happy that i’m say to say Midnight Blue was able to fulfill my expectations. Because since i read Vicious and loved it I need to read more books by L.J. Shen and the amazing readergroup also helped to hold my expectations high. There had been no book for a long time i was so exited for the Release of Midnight blue. After reading I can say that book was totally worth my complete excitement.
I enjoyed it really much that music was such an important theme in this book because Music and Lyrics are very emotional. So Leigh did grate job with made her book a lot more emotional with bringing in Lyrics.
These Story had been very catching because of the Setting and the Characters. Because of the idea of Love to Hate. Also much angst.
It was interesting to see Charakters deal with their problems. In these book Leigh made it again to show me the Fears, Sorrows and thoughts of the main characters in a way that was able feel with them. Sometimes its not easy to understand.
Leigh’s emotional and fluent style of writing was so amazing to read. I had a problem with put the this book away for sleep. It was so intense. In some parts of the last night i dreamed of these book.
My feelings had been really mixed up while reading because in some moments here i had fight tears because of sad parts of the story and i also want hug the characters but than there were moments were i burst out in laughter.
The reader gets the feeling, that he is a real part of the story. it was like siting on the characters shoulders as angle or devil.
Alex was an asshole but he really had his reasons to be one besides Miss Shen showed us that he also has soft center deep inside. Even if i’m not in his situation i was able to feel his Angst.
Indigo can i mention here that i’m in love with these Name. Ok back to the important was a young women with out an easy life but she never give up she was fighter.
Conclusion
All in all for every vor every body loves Rockstar Romances with a lot of angst and books that show the negative page off fame i would say these “pretty fucking amazing” book is a must read.
five plus of five horses
Alex Winslow is a rockstar who’s been on a bender using drugs and alcohol. Fresh out of rehab with a three month tour his agent books him a babysitter to keep him on the straight and narrow path. Indigo lives with her brother, his wife and her nephew Ziggy. After her parents death Craig dropped out of college and took care of her. Now he’s jobless, drinking too much and they are living on rations. When she is offered this job with a very nice pay check it is the answer to her prayers. Actually after meeting Alex it might be a nightmare he’s rude and openly tells her he’s going to get her to quit. Alex’s ex Fallon has just announced her engagement to his ex best friend William. They decide to keep him away from all social media because he’s going to lose it when he finds out. There is lots of angst and numerous twists in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it for my first read of this author.
Even if I think I’m going to manage to get through a book hating the male lead written by L.J. Shen, I will find myself about half or three quarters of the way through having caught feelings for them. She’s one of the very best at this! The story between Indie and Alex is one I wasn’t quite expecting. I went in thinking it was similar to other rockstar romances, and it wasn’t at all. This one has a very unexpected… depth of heart. The twists are very well done, as usual, and the slow burn romance has a very satisfying amount of heat, passion and realism. Highly recommend this author!
I must say Midnight Blue, in a way, feel different from the other LJ Shen books i’ve read so far. Although you can not missed her signature. Bad boy. Sexy. Sassy girl. Definitly HEA.
Alex is more complicated. A rock star complete withall the star sindrom. And addict. Vulnerable in his bad boy facade.
And Indigo, she’s the perfect match. Free spirit. No bullshit kinda girl. Passionate. Amd in a way, so naive with her feeling.
Love the feels between this two. Although i feel the author kinda rush things in the end, i still say Midnight Blue is one of the best from her
Another amazing read by LJ Shen. Filled with angst that will torture your heart, and tear it up before patching it back together. Love her writing style. Highly recommend this book.
So I have to preface this review with –I absolutely adore LJ & her style of writing! Midnight Blue seems so different from her other reads so be prepared! Indigo-freaking loved her….our quirky positive little ray of sunshine…she was everything!! I swear, LJ has such a knack for 1st person POV & getting into your head. Moments of anxiety, panic, pure bliss? I felt like I WAS Indigo in those moments! So, so good. Alex….arghhhhh here was where it fell out for me….Rockstar…a$$hole…total douche canoe who is so conceited you want to punch your Kindle! I didn’t have a love/hate for him…it was more like disgust/tolerate, lol. I’m not sure why the disconnect for me (though the smoking is a huge turn off), but I really didn’t see any redeeming qualities? They had ah-mazing scorching chemistry for sure though, and got their HEA. But through it all….her writing…oh my gawwwd her writing *swoons*….I have a whole book full of fav quotes & passages from her novels…so I’m leaving with you all with a few favs;)
“He tasted of the virgin lemonade he had after the show and the bitter bite of his last cigarette. Delicious in a hardened, unapologetic way.”
“Alex Winslow was beautiful in a way storms were-only from afar. Just like them, he had the power to sweep and ruin you, two things I was too busy surviving to entertain.”
“My body felt like a phoenix rising up from the ashes of dormancy & rediscovering it had muscles, and nerve-endings, and flesh that craved to be touched and bitten and nipped at.”
Rockstar romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author has a unique writing style. Alex was far from your typical prince charming. He was more along the lines of the frog you needed to kiss to find your prince. I absolutely loved the nickname he came up with for indigo.
Every time I sign up for this author’s work, I know fully well just how excruciating it’s going to be. But knowing beforehand and still experiencing it afterwards are different. Much, much different.
This author’s bad boys are lifting the bad in the bad boys into another level. The cream of the cream. They carry the hate and angst and hardness like a middle name. But they’re not just your usual variety, either. These men are the worst, I dare say. Why? Because despite of the crude, hostile behavior, they have these amazing sides they’ll let you know about in small doses. Once you’ve taken a hit, you’re definitely hooked. And screwed. Hopefully, the fun screwed way.
At first, you’ll experience a brief instance wherein he’s not as rude or as callous as his rude self. Few more snippets, you’ll discover a whole lot of other wonderful things about him that may humanize him in your eyes. That he’s got a bleeding heart. The next thing you know you’re falling hard, harder. See? The worst.
Alex Winslow is a very fine example of that. Even I am hurt on behalf of Indie for all the things he’s done at her at the first half of the story. And again, fall for the jerk, on behalf of Indie of course, at the second half of the story.
And Indie. My beautiful, young but mentally strong, heroine. She’s one full woman for everything she’s survived through. Not just under Alex’s tyranny. During all those years toughing it up for Craig, Nat and Ziggy.
PS I totally didn’t see those two plot twists. God, I have just survived brain aneurysm, I think.
“Alex Winslow was beautiful in a way storms were-only from afar. Just like them, he had the power to sweep and ruin you, two things I was too busy to entertain.”
Like snarky poetry, I fell in love with both the off the charts tension and the hysterical banter between Indie and Alex from the very start. In no way in my mind could I formulate the potential HEA between these two…too different, too broken, too EVERYTHING. I didn’t even see it coming and I was completely blindsided by the way the story was woven together and brought tears to my eyes.
“It’d never been this way before. So…wild. Like an entity of its own. My heart wanted to rebel, and I wanted to fight back, which could only result in trouble.”
Unlike most of the Author’s characters previously, I’ll freely admit I didn’t really like Alex, until she started working her magic, throwing the vulnerable sweetness between the hardened, broken man spitting retorts and insults. I loved those sneak peeks into his character and slowly warmed right up. No question they were hot together, but the slow burn of an actual relationship snuck up on me. Delightfully angsty, so much was piled on their plate to overcome, it almost seemed impossible. My jaw dropped, eyebrows raised, and the epilogue brought happy tears once I got to the END. One of my top reads of the year, not necessarily due to the romance, but the realness of the couple. With all of their flaws, mistakes, and baggage, they still snuck in my heart and will stay there!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!
“You look at me with dynamite in your eyes, waiting for me to light the match and finally set you on fire. Everything stopped. The air. The World. My heart.”

Midnight Blue was one of my first LJ Shen books. I was so drawn to her writing and story telling. Midnight Blue takes readers on an emotional roller coaster ride with twists and turns that take your breath away.
“You are the glue”- one of the best lines from Alex- the rock star! Indie is the girl who cares and loves for everyone- drawn to the bad guy- who really isn’t the bad guy at all. These characters are complex and connected in ways they do not realize in the beginning of the book. The words and feeling LJ Shen gives her characters and how she develops the relationships in this book are just so good. It keep me turning the pages late into the night!
I absolutely loved this book. L.J. Shen pens a brilliantly woven love/hate relationship within the pages of Midnight Blue. Within the well developed construct of plot Shen takes a troubled rock star and pairs him with an eccentric good girl. The passion proves combustible from the very beginning as we read of this motivated downward spiral into an uplifting sense of self awareness and love. The price of fame has never been so high.
L.J. Shen’s colorful writing consumes me as a reader. Rich descriptions vividly paint a perfect picture and allow for escapism in her writing. The way her story flows and how she poises her characters are creatively remarkable. It’s not easy and light romance yet Shen makes it simple to fall in love. She leaves readers no other choice in the matter; a testament to her great talent as a story teller. Midnight Blue will surprise you, engage you, enthrall you, anger you, and ultimately satisfy you. It’s a roller coaster of feelings in a glamorous world full betrayal, loneliness, fame, and kinship.
5 Stardust Stars!
I purposely didn’t read the description, reviews or any teasers for this one. I wanted to go in blind because I feel like this book has so much hype around it, I didn’t want to go in with any preconceived notions.
Of course it’s freakin’ fabulous!
Man does L.J. give good aholes. Like, some of the best aholes in all the land. Alex’s self destruct knob was turned up to 11 for most of the book. It was like, you wanted to hate him, but you really, really love him. He has gone through a lot, and it isn’t pretty.
“He was no knight in shining armor, a far cry from a savior. He was just a broken, sad boy who was given a great gift that put him on display for the world to see and to judge. And that boy saved me that day. Again.”
Indigo is pretty badass. Those two together are ah-mazing. The epilogue is perfect and it’s just an overall great angsty story. I enjoyed the hell out it and totally worth all the hype!
Once again LJ Shen rocks our world with her tortured and broken characters! The power, the intensity and the emotional ride she takes us will will have your heart beating like a train on a track. This authors writing is powerful, fuel charged and drags you into the characters lives, she makes it feel tangible. The story is consuming, raw and edgy. My heart bled out for these charcaters.
I loved Alex from the get go, he felt like another Baron ‘Vicious’ Spencer type character; one who is full of snark and attitude, he is narcissistic, a deity in his own head and degrading to all those around him; he thinks the world should bow down to his greatness… Alex Winslow was the Tsunami in Indie’s average life. Indie, the complete polar opposite is kind, naive and willing to see the good in everybody; even Alex. She is a strong character and a perfect match to take Alex on and bring him to his knees. The banter between these two characters is priceless, LJ Shen had me laughing and cringing as these characters.
The story is a journey of self loathing, forgiveness and learning to love yourself and others in the right way. This book is the mother of all slow burns. You set off hoping that they will end up together and being rewarded with their HEA but you are never quite sure how they are going to get there. Phenomenal read! This will be a top read of 2018!
