Midnight Abduction by Nichole Severn is the second novel in the Tactical Crime Division series. Benning Reeves is attacked, and his twins are kidnapped. He knows one person who can help him: Ana Ramirez. Ana is a former girlfriend and a member of the Tactical Crime Division. They may have broken up, but their feelings for each other have not gone away. They must put them aside and focus on locating the twins. The men who took his kids are ruthless. Benning uncovered something during an inspection that the bad guys want returned. Can Ana and the Tactical Crime Division get the twins back safely? I thought it was well-written and moved along at a speedy pace. There is plenty of action in this romantic suspense novel. I do want readers to know that the story contains violence (people are shot, knifed, blown up, beat up) along with foul language. Each book in the TCD series can be read on its own. I like that Benning and Ana are strong characters. They keep going no matter what happens to them (I would have asked for morphine and passed out in a comfy bed). I just loved the ending of Midnight Abduction. Midnight Abduction is a thrilling novel that will have you up late to finish it.
Lots and lots of action in this addition to the Tactical Crime Division. Action and danger, and a bit of second chance romance for the TCD’s kidnapping and ransom specialist, Ana Sofia Ramirez. Benning and Ana have good chemistry, and I like that they both recognize that the feelings never left even if it does take a good amount of push and pull to get them both to admit it. We also get a couple of adorable kiddos to ooh and aah over, and they have some of the most adorable lines, including one scene in particular at the end. Ana is one tough cookie, at least where her job’s concerned, even if she is a bit closed off to relationships, and Benning is just what she needs to round out her life. The story has great characters and a fast pace to keep readers on their toes along with the second chance romance, which is one of my favorite romance tropes. Another entertaining read in the Tactical Crime Division world.
MIDNIGHT ABDUCTION (Tactical Crime Division Book #3) by Nichole Severn is the third book in the Harlequin Intrigue multi-author series featuring members of the FBIs Tactical Crime Division. This is a specialized unit of the FBI formed to handle the toughest cases at a moment’s notice anywhere in the country.
Benning Reeves is a structural inspector who discovers a skull hidden behind drywall on his current inspection site. He hides it at his home, which leads to the kidnapping of his six-year-old twins. His daughter escapes from the vehicle, but his son is now a bargaining chip in exchange for the skull.
Ava Rameriez is told by her supervisor that she has been specifically requested by Benning to work the case to find and save his son. Seven years ago, the two parted when the case she was working ended tragically. She blamed herself and vowed to never become emotionally involved again, but she cannot turn down Benning’s request.
Ava and Benning find it difficult to fight the feelings that have been dormant during their seven year separation, but they are working against the clock to save Benning’s son and discover why the skull is so important to the mysterious kidnapper.
I loved both Ava and Benning’s backstories and how the author brought their feelings for each other out again during this case and the resolution. Olivia was adorable with her love of mysteries and crime solving. There is only peripheral involvement with other members of the TCD team, so while it is still tied into the series, it is easily read as a standalone. The sex scenes are not described even as you follow them into the shower and bedroom. Though the sex is behind closed doors, the violence is not. There are several scenes of Ava and Benning being stabbed, shot and beaten to a pulp.
The plot was very fast-paced, but because of all the physical damage taken by the H/h and they just kept going, the realism and believability become strained. It was like I was reading about an action hero and not a romantic suspense. The resolution to the kidnapping and mystery also felt rushed with a character that surprised me, but who also popped up out of the blue.
I did love the H/h and the crime story and can recommend it for a fast-paced suspense addition to this series.
Nichole Severn is an author quite new to me but I must admit that I am enjoying her books.
This story illustrates the effects of the immense stress and the life shattering consequences when an event in your chosen career goes badly wrong, you can either fight harder to the exclusion of everything else……..or you can choose a very different route.
Ana Ramirez had walked away from the love of her life, Banning Reeves, her career in the missing persons section of the FBI and the town of Sevierville when a case that she was working on went pear shaped resulting in the death of a young girl. she couldn’t let it happen again.
Ana joined the Tactical Crime division miles away from Banning Reeves and her fears but when he reached out to her to find and rescue his six year old kidnapped son she had to do it, she was a professional and the best at her job, she could keep her distance from Banning…………but could she ?
This story is action packed, so many suspects and so few clues, it follows the fight to locate and rescue Owen Reeves, the fight to protect her heart from Banning and his enchanting daughter Olivia and the lengths to which untrained, but in love, Banning would go to to protect Ana.
This book is a real page turner with a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming.
Outstanding, is what it was. The unpredictable excitement never let up ! I just finished reading and I’m still waiting for my nerves to settle down.
Benning and Ana make for some intense, really interesting main characters. And so is the drama between the two of them. Ana has shut out people because of her guilt over the young woman that she didn’t save years ago. Any emotions about good people she has just pushed down and refuses to engage personally. Even with her own family. Benning has never really got over Ana just walking out without a word, years ago. He moved on but he didn’t forget.
One thing I did feel might have been a bit overdone was the re-hashing of the regrets of both M.C’s over the past. It was well done but could have been pulled back a bit.
The twins, Own and Olivia were really put through the mill. But so is Benning and Ana. The violence, and the battles are very much a part of the story. As are the twists and turns and surprises that continue all the way to the end.
Speaking of the end, I did like how it finished.
I read a free copy of this book . All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Mystery resurfaces seven years later to rekindle romance and solve a murder – 4 stars
When a man’s children are taken from his home, he asks for a specific cop to investigate. He, Benning Reeves, and she, Ana Sofia Ramirez, had a relationship several years ago, before he had children.
The kidnapping of a pair of 6-year old twins escalates, requiring hospitalization for injuries and negotiation for the relationship. The cast of characters is what you would expect for a crime of kidnapping — with the inclusion of the FBI’s Tactical Crime Division.
You realize that the perpetrator is skilled in avoiding detection and has expertise in guns and electronics.
This book has a well-conceived plot for the underlying murder mystery. For the love interest, it was a little much for me. If I had noticed that it was a Harlequin story, I might have passed it by. The story moved quickly and kept my interest. There were plot twists with just a few hints along the way about the who in who-done-it. The romantic and sensual parts were somewhat above the threshold that I expect for a mystery thriller.
Midnight Abduction is an action-packed romantic suspense by Nichole Severn. Ms. Severn has provided readers with a well-written book populated with a fantastic cast of characters. When Benning’s twins are kidnapped there’s only one person he trusts to get them back. Ana couldn’t refuse the assignment to get the kidnapper that took Benning’s kids, even though it would be an uncomfortable situation. Benning and Ana’s story is loaded with drama, bits of humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed this nail-biter and look forward to my next book by Nichole Severn. Midnight Abduction is book 3 of the Tactical Crime Division Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A brilliant mystery filled with action and suspense. The characters were well-developed. The story flowed smoothly. Captures the readers’ attention from page one and continues with fast-paced action.
Benning Reeves 6 year old twins are kidnapped one night by someone that broke into his house. Olivia gets away but Owen does not. Ana Ramirez works on the Tactical Crime Division of the FBI and Benning requests that she be assigned to the case. There is lots of suspense, action and romance. I liked Benning and Ana but Olivia was my favorite. She had me laughing and crying. This book is great and I recommend it to everyone.
Midnight Abduction hits all the emotions, it digs deep, it is gripping, potent, and powerful with the force of feels ranging from adoration, to regret to fear and back. The tale mesmerized me. The danger is constantly present, nothing is given, the fight for survival is fierce, and peril is near and deathly. The up, close, and dangerous fight for life, the many hits, the gun-wounds, the unknown culprits, the constant terror of the kids’ survival – – it is riveting, it is captivating, making the book unputdownable with the need to know more.
Benning Reeves and Ana Ramirez have a painful history that had drastic consequences on both of their lives. I loved the honesty and respect they had for each other. They talked about the hard things, Benning was transparent about his relationship to his kids’ mother, he was honest about his fears and wishes for the future, about his feelings towards Ana. At first, I was puzzled with Ana’s reasoning of her life choices, yet as the story progress and she opened up and the plot develops, understanding dawned.
Nichole Severn writes dynamic romantic suspense where the intrigue is explosive and intense and the romance is ardent yet sweet and clean. I love her books, I enjoy the high energy and tense atmosphere of them, and I think Midnight Abduction is my favorite book of hers to date. With the fragile emotional turbulence and the vulnerability of the protagonists, it just touched me even deeper and broader than others before.
Romantic suspense at its best form, I highly recommend Midnight Abduction. It is a book that left me in awe and gave me the best kind of book hangover. Loved it!

Midnight Abduction
Nichole Severn
How horrible to be attacked in your own home and have your twins abducted. Well, Benning knows how horrible that is. FBI agent Ana Remirez shows up back in his life to help him save his children. Hopefully they can save each other.
Once again a riveting story that has you holding your breath as you transverse the ups and downs of emotions as these two struggle with personal feelings while hunting for the abductor and murderer.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I have also purchased a copy as well.
This is a fast paced suspenseful romance. Benning Reeves is a building inspector and a single dad to 6 year old twins son, Owen and daughter, Olivia. Benning faces every parent’s nightmare when his twins go missing. Even though he was told not to call in the authorities, he knows the one person who can help him recover his children. A woman from his past. A woman who left him years ago in the middle of the night, Ana Sophia Ramirez. They met while she was working on a missing person’s case. When the young woman was found dead, Ana left. To help overcome her guilt, she buried her feelings for Benning by leaving and immersing herself in her job as a FBI agent trained to find missing people.
I loved the plot and how the author just wrenched a great deal of emotion from me. These characters just felt so much more life-like. I could really see these scenes coming to life (especially how she describes the action scenes). They were intense! It is a good thing I don’t bite my fingernails as I wouldn’t have any left.
This is the third book of the series but can be read as a stand-alone. Other characters of the TCD make multiple appearances throughout this story. I love the fact that this was written in my favorite dual POV format. Reading the characters’ thoughts really help me to connect to them better. I can more thoroughly understand their conversation and actions so much better.
If you like a fast paced suspenseful mystery with added murder in your romance, then look no further than this one.
Midnight Abduction by Nichole Severn is the third in her Tactical Crime Division series from Harlequin Intrigue. Though I hadn’t read the previous books, I was able to jump into the action of this one without any concerns. And boy, is this full of action!
Ana Sofia Ramirez has been with her unit in the Tactical Crime Division of the FBI for a while but has always held herself in reserve. Her specialty is rescuing and recovering the missing, so it is right up her alley when the latest request for assistance lands in her lap. It is no coincidence though that the person requesting the help asks specifically for her though. She and Benning Reeves were a hot and heavy item for months before her feelings of guilt over a case gone wrong strengthens her resolve for a complete break. Now widower Benning’s six-year-old son is missing, and there isn’t anyone he trusts more to engineer his safe return than Ana.
Nichole Severn’s story is action packed with dizzying fight scenes and a handful of clues to lead the TCD team on a wild and incredible chase and battle of will and wits. Ana, Benning, and her TCD teammates prevail to keep Benning’s precocious daughter safe and rescue her twin brother. And Benning and Ana find a way to reconnect in a satisfying way as well. Well done, Ms Severn!
Fast-paced suspense along with a second chance romance. The story opens as Benning’s twin children, Owen and Olivia, are kidnapped from their home. Benning has something that the kidnapper wants, and the children are his insurance to get it. For some reason, the kidnapper quickly releases Olivia, but keeps Owen. Desperate to get his children back, Benning contacts the FBI and requests the only person he trusts to help him – Agent Ana Ramirez. He and Ana were a couple seven years earlier, but when the case she was working on ended badly, Ana walked away from Benning.
In the past seven years, Ana has acquired an impressive record of finding missing and kidnapped people. She has a laser-like focus on doing everything needed to find those victims. Ana is driven by the memory of her failure years before and blames herself for allowing her feelings for Benning to distract her from her job. Since that time she has kept people at a distance and keeping her emotions out of her work. She is stunned when she discovers that her new assignment is to recover Benning’s son.
This story is action-packed from the beginning. The bad guy desperately wants the item that Benning found during one of his inspections and will do anything to get it. Things get complicated when Benning discovers that the item is no longer where he left it. It seems that every time Benning and Ana get a lead on how to find either Owen or the item, the bad guy is right there to stop them. They survive shootings, fires, explosions, stabbings, blows to the head, and just about any other injury imaginable while refusing to give in until they find Owen. As the case progresses, it also becomes evident that the bad guy has something personal against Ana, and it has something to do with the unsolved case from seven years earlier. By the time the final confrontation came, I was on the edge of my seat wondering how Ana would get out of it alive. The identity of the bad guy was a shock.
I enjoyed the rekindling of the relationship between Benning and Ana. It is obvious from the start that the sparks between them are as strong as ever. Ana is still consumed by guilt over letting her relationship with Benning distract her from that earlier case and tries very hard to keep Benning at a distance. Benning realizes early on that his feelings for Ana are just as strong as they were before, but getting past Ana’s defenses won’t be easy. Her journey to forgiving herself wasn’t an easy one, and the final step came from an unexpected source. With that, Ana is now able to allow her love for Benning show. The ending was sweet, with Owen and Olivia joining Benning in a surprise for Ana.
This one is full of actions suspense read spiced with second chance romance and I love it, like really really really love it.
It starts with kidnapping and since then the suspense and mystery keeps coming and let’s not forget about all the actions, all the fighting got me cringe, it’s like watching it from the front row seat, I keep yelling rooting for the heroine to beat the bad guy, the details so real and gory. Then add cute adorable kids and old sparks between the heroine and her ex that put a sweetness in the story and a big smile in my face.
Great story, awesome characters, superb actions, totally recommended for suspense romance lovers.
Midnight Abduction by Nichole Severn
Tactical Crime Division (TCD) #3
Benning Reeves has had the worst day of his life when he realizes one of his twins is in the hospital and the other is being held hostage by a killer. All he has to do is not contact the FBI or police and return a skull to the madman and all will be well…or will it really? I mean, who can trust a madman killer? So, he reaches out to the woman he knew and loved seven years ago – an FBI agent with the specialty of finding those who have been taken. And, moments after Agent Ramirez arrives the fireworks begin. From that point on it is a life or death situation that includes, knives, guns, crowbars, axes, deceit, bombs, fisticuffs, psychological warfare and a w hole lot more. Will the TCD team win or will the bad guy get away with…murder, kidnapping and more?
What I liked:
* Agent Ramirez: a tough cookie that has sealed off her emotions in order to focus her attention on her job. This case may crack her protective shell as she deals with the man she once loved.
* Benning: a good man, great father, a person who does what is right, and totally willing to do what it takes to get his children back…and woo Ana again.
* The pace and action
* The writing
* The amazing recuperative powers of the two main characters they seem to have terminator healing abilities (have to suspend medical reality a bit to believe all they endure and are able to come out still standing)
* Owen and Olivia: twins that were interesting young people – perhaps geniuses with their reading and other abilities or perhaps just written older than most normal six year old children really are.
* The HEA for the two main characters
* That those who were evil were unveiled and justice was served.
What I did not like:
* The bad guys
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Intrigue for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4 Stars
Wow!
So much suspense. Intrigue. Twist. Turns. Angst. Feelings!
I loved it!
Ana Sofia Ramirez has had a hard career as a member of TCD. It’s time for redemption. Unfortunately, it involves her ex and love of her life, Benning Reeves.
How will they find his kidnapped son while fighting the attraction that hasn’t died throughout the years? Get over the pain and hurt of their separation?
This is an angst, twist and turn filled book you won’t be able to put down!
I highly reccommend it to suspense lovers and Criminal Minds fans!
Both the author and the series are new to me , so I was unsure what to expect. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Tactical Crime Division, TCD, is a special unit of the FBI. Created to handle very tough cases in remote areas.
In this story the main characters are single Dad of twins Benning Reeves and FBI agent Ana Ramirez, who is also a member of TCD. These two had a relationship years ago and each went their separate ways. But when one of the twins in abducted, Benning contacts Ana.
The plot was filled with suspense, bad guys, good ones and of course , romance.
Though at times I felt I was missing something for not having read the previous books, I was still able to enjoy the book.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Harlequin. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
“Midnight Abduction” by Nichole Severn is a pulse-pounding, danger-around-every-corner read.
Ana Sofia Ramirez, missing person specialist for TCD, is requested by Benning Reeves, her former lover, to help find his missing son. She also returns to the town where she failed one of her victims.
Benning, a building inspector, found a skull in a building of a company he was investigating. He takes it, hides it, as proof. But then his son is kidnapped and he thinks of the only woman who can help, the woman who left him, Ana Sofia.
Ms. Severn writes an action-packed story with well-developed fight scenes. The only drawback is she has a tendency to overuse certain phrases that lose their effectiveness over time (pressure built behind his/her sternum and base of his/her skull).
“Midnight Abduction” is book 3 of Harlequin Intrigue’s Tactical Crime Division 4 book miniseries.
4 1/2 STARS!
Emotionally riveting and filled with powerful intrigue! With the third book of the always exciting Tactical Crime Division series, Nichole Severn delights with action and suspense from start to finish. I highly enjoyed Benning and Ana’s story.
Benning Reeves is a caring father who will let nothing stop him from rescuing his kidnapped children … not even the awkwardness of reaching out to the one person who he knows will get his children back safely … the ex-girlfriend who walked away from him without a trace all those years ago.
FBI Tactical Crime Division agent Ana Ramirez has never stopped blaming herself for the distraction of falling in love, and having Benning step back into her life is mind-numbing. She’ll get his kids back … but she can’t ever allow herself to care again.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who loves an action packed story filled with torment and desire. I’ve enjoyed them all so far and am looking forward to the last book in the series.
