Over the hill, all outta ducks to give, and suddenly life is looking up . . .even if you’re living with a ghost and fighting off werewolves.
Moving back to Savannah changed my life in all the best ways. New job. New friends. As far from my ex-husband as possible.
I … As far from my ex-husband as possible.
I didn’t count on the Shadow World intensifying its hold on my life.
Color me surprised, when a new job lands in my lap watching over a fairy ring. Worth ten times what I’d make anywhere else, it seems too good to be true. I take it anyway.
And that’s when things get weird.
Spells are cast on my friends that seems to make them lose their marbles.
I’ve got a Bigfoot baking in my kitchen.
And a skeleton is quickly becoming my go-to guy. Which is silly because the eye candy strutting around in front of me is drool worthy. (I’m looking at you, Crash. Really looking 0_0)
Nothing in Savannah is what it seems, and the magic and undercurrents of this city are pulling me onto a dangerous path.
But with a Fae Queen begging my help, and the darkness closing in, I can only do one thing.
Pop a couple Advil, and kick some serious ducking butt.

I loved the story and the characters. Breena is taking freelance jobs, trying to earn enough money to win her Gran’s house back when it goes up for auction, training with the Hollows and watching her back after an earlier death threat – run of the mill stuff for a mid-life bounty hunter, right? But things get complicated in a hurry. The Hollows mentors and trainees start acting a bit “off”, a fairy is begging for help, and one of her friends may be in serious danger. Plus, Bree has to deal with her libido running wild. Witty and action-packed, I loved the story and the characters. The only annoying thing was the dozens of references to Breena’s age and aches and pains. Yes, I know, we all age differently, but I thought the author belabored the point. Otherwise, excellent! Looking forward to the next one.
This is the second book in the Midlife 40 and older series. It is incredibly amazing and fun to read and I loved reading it.
Our main character is badass for being over 40..
She proves that being older doesn’t mean you stop living.
This is my favorite saying.. “I am all out if Ducks to give” lol..
This book has many surprises and twists and turns with very much action. Oh, did I forget to mention that there is a very hot Werewolf, an interesting skeleton that helps out our heroine and a Bigfoot shifter who is on love with an adorable Fairy.
Over the hill, all outta ducks to give, and suddenly life is looking up . . .even if you’re living with a ghost and fighting off werewolves.
I loved this second installment of Forty Proof series even more than the first one and I loved first one so much. I’m absolutely invested into Breena’s story! She is amazing in her forties! As is her mismatched crew of different crazies. They are phenomenal all together. Family which is created not of blood but heart. This is something I adore Shannon Mayer does in her incredible stories.
Story continues where it finished in first book and it’s non stop action packed, full with dangerous twists and craziness. Can’t wait for the next book in this series! I highly recommend this series to everyone, no matter how old you’re.
Midlife Fairy Hunter, book 2 of The 40 Proof series does not disappoint.
Everyone from the Hollows Group is back in the sequel to Midlife Bounty Hunter, along Fiesh, Crash, the “vendors” from Factors Row, Eric (Bigfoot shifter) Suzy (trainee from The Hollows Group) and a few new characters including Kinkly and Karissa are also included in the crew of Breena O’Rylee, a 40+ year old woman who has just been introduced to The Hollows Group.
In this book, it’s the Unseelie fairies Breena is after. Hired by the Queen of fairies to watch over the Unseelie and let her know when they’re getting close. Close to what, you might ask?? That is not my place to say. But Breena’s promised to be well paid for her efforts. VERY well paid. Of course, this is a Shannon Mayer book, so you can imagine the twists and turns that go along with the watching of these Unseelie fairies.
I love Shannon Mayer and all her books. They’re very dear to my heart
This is book two of the Forty Proof Series…… and it was AWESOME!!!!
This series just keeps getting better and better….. Bree is a badass and being over 40 doesn’t stop her from giving it her all….
We are starting to learn some things about Bree and her family…. and looks like there are some surprises ahead…..
Himself even made an appearance in this book…. (I love that she calls her ex “himself”)
Great book, can’t wait for #3!!
Just when I thought I couldn’t love Shannon Mayer’s work more…she writes this series. I loved the first book in the Forty Proof series and had high hopes for the 2nd. Mayer didn’t meet my expectations, she blew the roof off in exceeding them! Midlife Fairy Hunter was so much fun to read I couldn’t put the book down! Breena’s story just keeps getting better, and I’m looking forward to #3.
If you haven’t read this series, I totally recommend it.
A Funny, Exciting, Twisty-Turny & Spooky Read!

Midlife Fairy Hunter (Forty Proof #2)
I really enjoyed book #2 in this series.
This was such an important book for Bree. Her character learns even more about herself, who she can trust & who she may become within Savannah! Her friendship group grows but so do her enemies!!
We meet the Fae King & Queen in this book. It’s unclear if they’re friend or foe, unfortunately! Everyone in the Hollows is acting extremely strangely, except for Rupert! Bree, Gran & co must help to stop whom ever is behind all of the bad goings on before Savannah succumbs to their evil!
A thoroughly enjoyable read that I have no trouble recommending!! It’s gripping, witty & sassy. I really like Bree’s attitude towards her life now. Her friends all seem really loyal even though they’re a little quick to point out her age related failings. It’s a fun read!

Before anything else, let me say that I am LOVIN’ (yes, I meant to shout) the newish genre of Paranormal Women’s Fiction and will be forever grateful for the original Fab 13 authors who all published their beginning books in these multiple, amazing series on the same day to get us all started. (now the publication dates vary but it was great to see them all drop at once) If you love Paranormal anything, then you should check these ladies out, seriously.
Life isn’t really slowing down any for Bree since days after her last… encounter somewhat concluded she’s soon pushed right back into the craziness of the Shadow World, Savannah (although a Savannah that most tourists will never see), dealing with the Hollows Group and still trying to get her Grandmother’s home back where it belongs – with her as owner. No, not slowing down but perhaps changing directions a bit as we delve deeper into the world of Forty Proof and even more danger heads straight for Bree and her friends.
I don’t give away more information than can be found in the Cover Description (that’s just my way) – but Midlife Fairy Hunter is a fantastic journey back into a world that I’m quickly becoming addicted to. Established relationships change, new ones form, and yet more dangerous entities emerge from the Shadow World to make certain that Bree actually gives no ducks whatsoever about how she solves this one. With twists, turns, a few surprises, and an ever-expanding crew of her own, Bree sets out to not only solve one mystery but to continue her journey on learning more about her own destiny, her abilities, and secrets she never expected to uncover.
I most definitely belly-laughed, I might have snort-laughed, too as Midlife Fair Hunter tossed the unexpected at me constantly, and I loved it. It’s going to be torture to wait until July of 2020 for Midlife Demon Hunter, but I’ve no doubt that it will be well worth the wait. I had a blast back in this world once again with a story that kept me turning pages, characters that I loved, liked and loathed depending on their actions, and a story that is fast-paced, detailed, and engaging throughout. If you love anything in the Paranormal world (no matter your age) then you should be picking up the latest story in the Forty Proof series. I’d recommend reading in order since they build on the previous ones but.. that’s me.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription (But I’m not sure how long it will be there)
Wow what can I say I love this book just as much as the first one..
Breena is back with her band of misfits plus a few extras misfits come onto the scene. Bree finds out a few secrets and she finds out a few things from her past.. This book is fast paced, action packed with some laughs thrown in and a few twists..
I absolutely can’t wait for the next one..
Breena O’Rylee our favorite midlife paranormal bounty hunter returns. This time she has added to her team of buddies. She teams with Eric the big foot from book one, a fairy named Kinkly and of course her BFF Robert the skeleton for her new adventure through the shadow world.
This is such a wonderful series full of laughter and a wee bit of danger of course. I really hate spoilers so you just gotta pick up the book and read it for yourself. Each book ends on a slight cliffhanger, not enough to make you scream and throw a tantrum though.
Now off to sit and patiently wait for the next book.
I LOVE BREENA and I think you will too!
Enjoy and many thumbs up to the amazing Shannon Mayer!
I absolutely LOVED book 1 and was stoked to jump into book 2 headfirst. The plot throughout the book becomes a bit more elusive and mysterious as the story continues. Breena is just as kick-butt as before, though the story takes a turn for the unexpected away from her job at the Hollows group. To be honest, it shouldn’t be that surprising considering Mayer’s other works. The quirk where she changes the F word to “ducks” continues and makes it even more endearing to the story. As for the plot, nothing is truly everything as it seems, and Mayer loves to keep you on your toes. Breena’s also quickly assembling her own team of supernaturals to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves while living in the grey area between the Council and the Hollows group. It’s refreshing that Breena develops nicely as a character without sugar-coating anything. Yes, she’s now been in Hollows training for weeks, and has made some improvements in the physicality of the job, but her abilities don’t magically improve astronomically. There are subtle changes which makes it even more realistic.
My one critique is some of the little details that were missed prior to publication which I’ve pointed out to Mayer through correspondence. Usually her books are so polished by the time they published that this took me by surprise. But aside from the few inconsistencies I found, the plot twists and intrigue of the story kept me hooked until the very end. Can’t wait to read the next one, and I’m especially excited to hear from Shannon that there will be at least 6 books in the series, if not 9.
I love this series so much.. not only is the MC a 41 yes a 41 year old woman.. who is divorced and who feels all the pains of a 41 year old, but the supporting characters are funny, loyal, kickass and melt together to make a perfect gang of misfits. Add them amazing characters to The action.. plotting.. the triple chilli heat creeping in.. I’m mean it is getting hot flushes in here and of course humour in this book and it is an amazing read that has left me caring what happens to them all and wanting to know what comes next..Together they are amazing.. together they can do anything #LiveWithHope
Breena is back in a new and amazing way. More humor, more twists, more of everything Shannon Mayer. The second book of the Forty Proof series is a wonderful addition to the PWF family. Strong women, getting stronger, owning their aches, pains and experiences. Realizing that actual communication can solve things that fists and weapons can’t, Breena uses all her experience, and growing talents to see through the duplicity thrown at her. “Friend” is what she is to Robert and all her companions, gathering a cadre of very loyal souls around her. Personally, I can’t wait to go along on her next adventure.
Shannon Mayer never disappoints. Breena is a very fun and kickass 41 year old woman. Everyone in her life is not always who they seem and there are twists you won’t see coming! Grab a snack and settle in for a great read!
What to say about this book without spoilers? There are so many epic scenes that I’m not even sure where to start. We’re back with Breena after the events of the first book, and life continues to not be dull for her. There are scenes to funny I laughed out loud long and hard until I cried. After I finished I bugged all my friends to finish so we could laugh over some of the scenes together. I adore Robert, more than I can say. I’m also a fan of Corb and Crash (hot hot hot). Breena makes more friends/allies in this book and damn she’s becoming one of my favorite heroines. Highly recommend this series.
This second book is even better than the first.
I absolutely loved this fast paced and funny story. Shannon Mayer is genius. The development of an over 40 hero who is very relatable is absolute gold. Breena has quickly become one of my favorite characters. Her humor, wit and strength of heart are so endearing. Her world is filled with magic and fantastical characters. The vivid descriptions make it easy to imagine myself transported into the warm southern climate intertwined with magical realms. I can hardly wait for her next adventure.
