A Paranormal Women’s Fiction murder mystery for anyone who believes you can find your powers at any age.Constance Campbell has made a few questionable decisions in the run-up to her fortieth birthday. So in a way, moving two thousand miles away from everything she’s ever known makes perfect sense.Creel Creek, Virginia is the last place either of her ex-husbands would ever think to look for her. … ever think to look for her. What better place to hide from her humiliations than a town too small to warrant a mention on a map?
Laid off, and recently divorced from husband number two, this former workaholic moves in with her estranged—and very strange—grandmother.
A grandmother who informs Constance that she comes from a long line of powerful witches. And on the day she hits the big 4-0, she’ll come into her powers.
It turns out that she’s not the only paranormal person in town. Under the sleepy surface, the small town is teeming with supernatural beings.
When Constance finds the town’s resident vampire dead, things go from surreal to scary. The local sheriff is convinced that a killer is lurking in the shadows, hunting anyone with supernatural abilities…including witches like her.
He’s not wrong.
Can Constance learn enough magic to save herself and Creel Creek from this unknown foe?

In witch I fell in love with Midlife Curses
The title of this review is a nod to the chapter titles in this book. And what an awesome book! The style feels effortlessly easy to read and it pulled me in right away. The humorous tone immediately captivated me. Well written. Constance has got spunk! She’s a bit sarcastic and I do love a bit of sarcasm. And I loved being a part of the start of her magical journey. But my favorite character must be Gran. I don’t know, there was something about her that just drew me to her, her independence, her power, her spunk. Or maybe my favorite character was Stevie (Gran’s familiar)! He’s cool. And the way he went after… but no, I won’t tell you; you’ll just have to read for yourself.
I love how real things felt, like the small town of Crell Creek, it felt real, not polished and unrealistic.
Reading this, time fell away, witch is always the sign of a great book! (See what I did there? LOL)
This is clearly just the beginning and how exciting!
Quotes:
“My skull found a cabinet to bump against. “Ow!””
And this one is from a podcast, do not read any further if you don’t like spoilers, it’s slightly spoiler-ish:
“Athena: You saw that, right?
Ivana: Saw what?
Athena: It moved.
Ivana: No, I was just saying—Oh, gosh. It did move!
Athena: Oh, my—
Rustling sounds.
Footsteps.
Panting.
Engine starting.
Engine sounds.
More panting.”
This has no sexcapades, no cussing and is very interesting.
This odd little town has all sorts or paranormal beings, but they look normal to someone like Constance, because paranormals don’t really exist.
What I like about this one is that witches don’t get their magic until they’re 40th birthday. This also has an interesting murder to solve. There’s lots of action. I didn’t like the ending, but at least the next book is waiting for me so I’m not left hanging on that cliff for long.
Laughed so loud I woke up the wife!
Midlife Curses is the perfect read for when you want to pick up a book, get lost in a story, and not put it down until you’re done.
The characters are fun and the storyline is interesting and unique. I’d say more, but I’m too eager to go start the second book in the series.
This is a great paranormal cozy mystery meets paranormal women’s fiction. Can’t wait for book 2!
Another good audiobook to listen to during October. This is a little scary but not a too scary like thrillers, it’s just right for me and shows another woman during 40 can save the day.
I enjoyed this book, a nice escape from the day to day. The feisty characters, Brad the trash panda, (chuckle) and all the other paranormal characters. I did feel bad for the vampire who after so many centuries passed away, without being able to fight the warlock, but if the warlock or the vampire makes a return appearance they’ll meet a much stronger witch in Constance.
not a lot of good content in this book
Constance files for divorce, quits her job, and leaves California to drive to her Gran’s house in Creel Creek. She doesn’t know until she arrives that Gran is a witch, and Constance herself will come into her own witch’s power in a few days on her fortieth birthday. Creel Creek, it turns out, is full of paranormals living among an unknowing human population. In this book, the plot is thin, the characters are developed at only a surface level, and the clues to discovering the bad guys are lacking. It’s not a book I’d recommend.
An easy, entertaining, paranormal cozy.
This is a fun start to a new Women’s Paranormal Fiction series. I’m excited to see what’s next in the series.
A fun fast read that kept me entertained and reading past my bedtime.
I have enjoyed this series, need to start with the first one. Nice having this witch only coming into her powers at an older age. Also having many of the towns people having their own abilities in different areas is quite fun to read about, the author does have a good imagination.
My enjoyment began with the title on this novel. I’ve been known to buy a book just because I liked the title.
This is a unique twist on witches; they don’t acquire any of their power until their fortieth birthday. I could support this concept. I’ve often thought that men didn’t begin to mature until close to their fortieth birthday.
“Get my till, count it, and be womannig my post before another soul got here.” Thank you for using womanning. The use of manning to refer to either male or female has bothered me for some time, especially when referring to “manned” spacecraft. What’s wrong with using a gender neutral adjective like staffed? I have gone so far that I refer to manhole covers as personhole covers. l believe that language helps shape our perceptions.
Fun read.
I finished it….but will not be buying the next book
Liked the characters…
A really fantastic read.
Witches, vampire, wearwolves you have them all in one small town. A nice read if you like paranormal.
This is a fine book for those looking for light reading. There were a few small editing errors, but overall a light easy read, with no big surprises.
Really lost interest – just too dumb
