A Paranormal Women’s Fiction murder mystery for anyone who believes you can find your powers at any age.Constance Campbell has made a few questionable decisions in the run-up to her fortieth birthday. So in a way, moving two thousand miles away from everything she’s ever known makes perfect sense.Creel Creek, Virginia is the last place either of her ex-husbands would ever think to look for her. … ever think to look for her. What better place to hide from her humiliations than a town too small to warrant a mention on a map?
Laid off, and recently divorced from husband number two, this former workaholic moves in with her estranged—and very strange—grandmother.
A grandmother who informs Constance that she comes from a long line of powerful witches. And on the day she hits the big 4-0, she’ll come into her powers.
It turns out that she’s not the only paranormal person in town. Under the sleepy surface, the small town is teeming with supernatural beings.
When Constance finds the town’s resident vampire dead, things go from surreal to scary. The local sheriff is convinced that a killer is lurking in the shadows, hunting anyone with supernatural abilities…including witches like her.
He’s not wrong.
Can Constance learn enough magic to save herself and Creel Creek from this unknown foe?

I enjoyed this book and really appreciated the fact that the characters weren’t the typical 20 something-years-old. Will be reading more from this author.
Enjoyed.
I may never look at 40th birthdays the same! “By the pricking of my thumbs,” I believe we have a powerful witch in the making!
I read to relax not for education and enjoy easy reads
It is a cozy so there has to be some romance but she’s grown so it isn’t all atwitter. And she has good girlfriends. And there are shifters and magic with a twist. I bought/borrowed the whole series and I am not disappointed.
I usually like paranormal books but this one was took a while to get into and had a number of characters to keep up with. It was ok , something to read to keep me busy but not something that I couldn’t put down or was in a hurry to get back to.
A nice book to read just for enjoyment and relaxation. Find a comfortable place on a rainy day and enjoy.
A bit cutesy with the supernatural witch stuff. OK but not great.
Entertaining for a stay-at-home order escape…
It dragged at first, and I skipped pages of interior dialogue but it got better as I got closer to the end. I don’t not recommend.
It is a good cozy mystery.
Dull
This would be a cute book for middle schoolers. It is written at a 6th grade reading level. It is full of plays on words (Ivanka Steak, the butcher and Goohoogle, the internet search engine as well as “magikal “ spelling. I read the description of the book and nowhere did it indicate that it was a children’s book. I wasted my money as no children live in my house.
Interesting characters and world building in this first novel in the series with the MC learning about herself and her family as she encounters people and situations that require her to rely upon her intuition and newly awakened powers.
This book was good. The story good and the characters are good. I think this puts a new spin on getting older. I was surprise at how this book turned out. I liked it very much and plan on reading the next one soon.
Fun and original!
This book is a delightful and original story that surprised me with a lead character named Constance who is a very relatable and likeable forty year old woman (a refreshing change from all the high school or college age heroines found in so many stories). After ending her marriage when she catches her husband cheating on her, she heads off for a fresh start in life and winds up at her grandmother’s place in Creel Creek, Virginia. Little did Constance know just how much of a new start she would be getting in this town. She learns that she is a witch and will be coming into her powers on her birthday, she learns that other paranormal beings exist, her new boss is murdered, the town sheriff may or may not be interested in her, and she finds that her “familiar” is not a cat but a racoon. I found the story to be completely enjoyable with a good mystery at its core and some really unique and charming characters. I am definitely looking forward to the next in this series.

Great start to a new series. Loved the characters and the world building makes the town alive and a little scary. You will love Constance and Gram. They are wonderful characters that feel like old friends. The town is a paranormal hotspot and I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Yes, it was that good. Highly recommend this book to all cozy mystery lovers.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last. This was a fun quick read with great characters. A very well written book.
