Another awesome 40ish love story about 2 people starting over with their love life, trying to let go off the doubts they’ve carried, the ups and downs in their lives and be somebody’s somebody
Dunbar brings romance to the over 40 set with Midlife Crisis.
The realistic characters and an amazing take on how life experiences color our perspectives about relationships in older adults make this a truly emotional read. Hank and Midge give a new look at sex and love over 40. This one is steamy and difficult to put down!
I highly recommend this book to fans of the contemporary steamy romance genre.
I love this second over 40 romance story from Ms. Dunbar. This story is so relatable for me that I rooted for Midge to get her happily ever after.
Midge, a single mother of 3 boys, is trying to be everything for her children. She wants to be involved in their lives so she ends up volunteering for things that she needs to learn to say no to because she is running herself ragged. Everything feels like it’s crashing down on her and she’s about to lose her mind! The fundraiser that she volunteered for in order to be more involved in her middle child’s life ends up being a good thing for her. She meets Edie and Ivy and becomes friends with them. Then she meets Hank at Edie and Tommy’s party and it is instant attraction.
Hank used to be in the band with Tommy but things got out of control that he ends up being a the bottom and is finally working on being in a better place. When he sees Midge, he is instantly attracted to her.
The things that Hank and Midge has to deal with as they get to know each other better and trying to figure out if they have a future together are things that could happen in real life. When a secret comes out for Hank, Midge is not sure where she fits in his life and decides to do what she thinks is the best for the situation. Hank must figure out how to convince that he needs Midge in his life and to help him with the unexpected changes in his life.
Again, I can so relate to this over 40 story and liked that it can almost be realistic! Great read!!!
LB Dunbar has a real hit on her hands. Not only with this story but with her over 40 stories and the heroines that make up the “sisterhood of the over forty”! Midlife Crisis is book 2 in the series but in my opinion really doesn’t need to be read in order. Each story in the series is about a new couple who does interact with the other couples so it is helpful to read in the order she has written them but if you want to start with the hotness of Midge and Hank it would be ok.
While I usually don’t comment about titles of the books I read, I don’t agree with the name of this book…it should have been called Cupcakes and More or Sausages in the Hallway! And now we know why I don’t write the books! Good call on the title LB!
This story is a definite 5 star read, as I don’t think there is anything that I would change about it!
Honestly, I was really hesitant to read a book intended for 40 and over. I haven’t been in my 40’s for very long, and I really don’t want to feel old. But this book was seriously amazing! I loved it! I couldn’t put it down! This was the first book I read by this author, and she’s now definitely a 1-click author!
Someone’s someone
Hank Paige thinks he’s broken and unworthy, dirty even, but in fact he’s the swooniest hero ever. I loved watching him make a new life with the smart and sweet Midge. Hank reawakening Midge’s passion was the sweetest and hottest thing ever. I loved this book!
I have no idea how I’ve missed this author, but I freaking loved Midge and Hanks story. Hank the reformed Rocker, recovering alcoholic and sexy as hell hero and Midge, the 40 year old divorcee, mother of 3 sons, but generous, kind, loving and strong through it all
They have chemistry from the very beginning and it never came across as forced, even though hank forced himself into Midge’s life. What a great and sexy read for the over 40 reader. Wit, romance, angst, and just a feel good HEA romance.
This may have been my first LB Dunbar book, but it will not be my last.
L.B. Dunbar is the queen of #SexySilverFoxes.
Another great over 40 read. Denton and Mati, childhood friends. When Mati chooses their friend Chris Denton heads out on a road trip and doesn’t look back. He is now back in town and maybe it is the second chance they both need.
Two characters that are not perfect but struggle to voice their feelings to each other. This is a realistic read with the love of family and struggles. Ms. Dunbar paints a picture of a non perfect world but heartbreak can turn into love.
This is a read that set in a small town and it feels just like you have been dropped right into the middle of the story. You will be invested in each and every characters life. Just the right amount of angst, heartache, love, family and success.
Wonderful characters with a mix of heat and humor added up to a great read
Book 2 in the over 40 (#sexysilverfoxes) series, you don’t need to have read book 1 to enjoy this.
There’s so much I like about this story, it’s hard to know where to start. It’s wonderful to read about characters over forty, and I have to say, anyone who thinks the chemistry can’t be hot once you’re past 40 needs to read this series. Rockstar books are some of my favorites, so former/has-been rock stars put a great twist on that storyline for me.
I really liked the parallels and contrasts between Midge and Hank. They’ve both been burned in previous long term relationships and both are still in the process of rebuilding their lives after some major life changes. Where Hank is childless, and is living with his brother and nephew, Midge is raising three sons following a divorce. These were complex characters with fully developed lives, and I loved watching their relationship develop. Relationships with and between the secondary characters were a lot of fun as well.
Wonderful characters with a mix of heat and humor added up to a great read for me. 5 stars

I really enjoyed this story. Midge and Hank captured something in me that I’m not sure I’ll ever get back. Their story is heartbreaking with Hank’s past and his desire to love Midge, but his lack of know-how for actually getting it done.
I loved that instead of saying “I Love You” they would say “I More You” because they both knew the value of being more for someone than just being. They both wanted to be somebody’s someone and luckily they found that in each other.
One of the best lines in the book in my opinion was from a time when Hank was with Midge and he was thinking:
I own her in this moment, and I’m right where I want to be – lost in her – or, rather, found by her.
I love that these characters aren’t 20 somethings with something to prove. They are in their 40s and they just want the best life they can have. I am really enjoying this story and can’t wait for the next one!!
*** I voluntarily read a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***
I loved Midlife Crisis! This story just proved that even if you are older doesn’t mean you have your life in order. Nor does it mean that the dreams we had when we were younger will be the same dreams we even want as we get older.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to hug Hank or smack some sense into him. He was lovable, but frustrating all at the same time. He has come such a long way from his past, but it takes a special lady to finally help him realize he deserves happiness too.
I loved Midge! She is a strong woman after having to start over and raise her three boys after her divorce. She has the patience of a saint putting up with Hank’s baggage and balancing that with raising her boys.
I was rooting for them both throughout this story to finally work out their differences and find their HEA!

Now here’s an author who writes mature couples’ romances. I mean your heart still beats at 40, right? As long as it beats, it feels. Love, passion, lust, attraction. And why not act on it, cause love ain’t got no expiration date. So when Hank Paige meets Midge Everette at a fundraising thing at Edie and Tommy Carrigan’s place, there’s that electric buzz which zaps both of them. Hank is a charmer, soon he has Middy cornered in the restroom and the kiss that he plonk on her lips just seals their fate together. Now the best part about mature people falling in love is that they don’t waste time on unnecessary wooing. They get down to business real quick and are generally forthright about their feelings and try to work it out. They recognise loneliness and guilt cause they’re kindred spirits.
a kindred knowledge of what the end of a rope feels like, I have a good idea of how she’s feeling. Despair. Desperation. Downtrodden.
It’s more of companionship, a sounding partner who understands them, and gets their regrets and mistakes. After all they’ve Been There; Done That! So both looking for a warm soft place to land on.
I want to be somebody’s someone.
So they stumble through their personal lives, trying yo decide that if this risk at this age is worth it or not.. But try as they may they can’t keep their hands off of each other.
My signals are so mixed with this man, and I feel like I’m the one on the verge of sexually molesting him. I need to rein it in, but I haven’t had this kind of attention in so long, I just want to swing for a home run when I might need to bunt instead.
Hank is still stuck in his past and has trouble accepting the fact that he is lovable and wanted still. His abandonment issues play havoc with his mind
I see the way she looks at you. You could shit yourself, and she’d think you hung the moon, but you’re still hanging onto a ghost. A phantom who was invisible to you even when she was alive.”
LB writes with so much maturity and wisdom, she truely captures the essence of love which may not be smooth sailing at this age but hand in hand they can work it out. I loved the writing and the plot and fell in love with Hank and Middy.

After finishing I was super excited to get my hands on L.B. Dunbar’s next over 40 romance, Midlife Crisis.
Hank is working at a crisis hotline after hitting rock bottom years ago. Midge is a single mother of three who moved to California with her husband but ended up getting divorced.
I got the impression from Hank that he was not over “the love of his life”, Kit, who had passed away. It made it a little hard to believe that he wanted to date anyone let alone Midge.
Midge is a single mother of three boys, who strikes me as insecure and unable to say the word no. She seems to have trouble connecting with people, but eventually she finds herself.
I loved After Care and that’s why it pains me to say that Midlife Crisis fell short for me. I had a hard time connecting with both of these main characters.
L.B. Dunbar is a talented author and I encourage everyone to give her books a shot. Even though I didn’t connect with Hank and Midge, I am looking forward to reading more of L.B.’s work.
There were parts of this book I loved and parts I just shook my head at. I loved that they were older and more mature and didn’t let things go without talking to them. What I didn’t like Kit and her ghost. She was like a 3rd person in the relationship.
Midge is a divorce, 40something, mom of 3 boys. She isn’t looking for love when it stumbles into the bathroom with her. He’s not what she is looking for, but it’s what fate gave her. Could this work? Could there be something between them? Or will his past haunt them forever? Not if Midge has anything to say about it. She’s willing to fight for the love and work thru the tough times. Will he?
Love has a name and it’s HANK PAIGE! Legendary drummer of Chrome Teardrops, only now he’s a mechanic in his brother’s shop. What a life? Pissed it all away and has nothing to show for it. GREAT! Midge doesn’t care, she likes him for him. Not for what he had or could give her. She’s in love with the man, who is still in love with a dead girl. A dead girl who still sticks the knife deeper and deeper into his heart. Can he escape her and turn to Midge? Or will his long lost ghost kill him in the process?
Like I said, I liked this book and yet there were things about it that I didn’t care for. But that is with every book. It was a quick read that kept me wanting to read more. I needed to find out how things would progress and if there was a future for the two of them or if Hank would roll over and let the girlfriend from his past win.

Hank …. a reformed abuser of drugs and alcohol, now works a crisis hot line… he wants to give back to the people who helped him once upon a time….Still haunted by a love that never was…
Midge…single mom… moved to California by her now ex husband. She knew no one and took a job that asked way too much of her. She was a woman who could never say no to helping at any event when it came to her boys. At one said event she met Ivy and Edie, and let the adventure begin! LOL
Midge met Hank at a party Edie’s husband Tommy, was throwing.
Hank and Midge….what can I say? This is a well told story about two people … two people who want to be somebody’s someone … I think that say it all…
L.B. Dunbar hits the mark once again with another romance for the over 40 !
If you lived Tommy and Edie; you are going to flip for Hank & Midges story. Midlife Crisis will have you laughing and crying. It’s Edie that lets judge in on a little and at the same time reminds Tommy & Hank family is forever no matter what happens. Midge & Hank have a lot of obsticals and miscommunication to navigate through their complicated relationship. Get lost in midlife crisis you won’t regret it.
GREAT Read and would recommend!
Texas Hugs and Happy Reading!!
I absolutely loved “Midlife Crisis: another romance for the over 40”! Not only for the second chance at love and happiness, but as a reminder that over 40 is not old and washed up. Of course, being 40 or older comes with life’s trials, tribulations, and school of hard knocks, but also some experience and wisdom. Midlife Crisis is how Hank and Midge meet and their story of second chance. With Hank’s past lingering in the present and Midge’s divorce and raising 3 sons, their new relationship is stretched to the limits. This story is so true to life’s unpleasant “kick ya while your down” surprises, but how to also take the lemons and make lemonade.
If you’re looking for the “knight in shining armor, as they ride into the sunset”, this book is not for you. But if you’re looking for something real and believable, then read Midlife Crisis!
PSA: Midlife Crisis can be read as a standalone for full enjoyment, but for better understanding of some of the secondary characters, I HIGHLY recommend reading “AFTER CARE: another romance for the over 40” first!
For all of us readers who are over 40, L.B. Dunbar has it Locked. Down.
First you have Midge, divorcee, three young boys, trying to find her way as a single mother making ends meet.
Then there’s Hank – former rocker, recovering alcoholic, smooth talker, hot and tatted (did I mention former rock star???)
These two meet, and the chemistry is off the charts. The characters are real, their problems will hit home for some of us, and the story is phenomenal. Definitely a must read!!!
Another fabulous over 40 book. I was hooked on this book from page one. I just recently started reading this author and I am now a fan of this over 40 series. Hank and Midge hit it off right away and you just hope they can overcome all the issues they are facing. Being divorced and a mother Midge has a better sense of what she wants in her life and feels like Hank could be it. Hank just has a lot of baggage he needs to work through and he realizes he needs Midge to be there for him while he works through it. This was a great book and I would highly recommend this series and book to others
