If madness has a name…it’s hers. She is an artist seeking solace. He is a serial killer seeking vengeance. She doesn’t remember. He remembers it all.She is broken. He is obsessed. She wants truth. He wants revenge. One of them is guilty. One of them is innocent. Both of them want to win.And for that one of them has to lose.Warning: Dark Romance
What a phenomenal story. My second read for 2019 was a dark romance that had me hooked right until the end. Micaden’s Madness was thrilling, engrossing and down-right riveting and I could not put it down.
Told in dual POV, the story was given in both the past and present day and it will take you on a roller-coaster ride of emotion. With twists and turns along every corner, it will keep you guessing and you won’t know what to expect.
Micaden and Emerald were well-developed and highly complex, flawed characters. They had intense chemistry and their steamy scenes were scorching hot.
The secondary characters all provided balance and support really helped carry the story along. I loved that we got to see the characters from the previous books in the series making appearances in this story.
This page-turner was a fantastic story and definitely worthy of 5 stars. I loved it and would highly recommend it to lovers of dark romance.
Micaden’s Madness by V.F. Mason is the love story of Micaden and Emerald.
Both Micaden and Emerald have sad and rough tragic pasts that so very hard to take in. Emerald is having a hard time knowing which memories are real or made up(lies) in her head due to an accident when she was younger. Whereas Emerald cant remember, Micaden remembers everything and is seeking vengeance with a capital “V”. Their story isn’t pretty but pretty dark romance so just know, if you aren’t a fan of this type of genre, then this might not be your cup of tea. There are some trigger scenes so take that into mind when reading if you have those feelings. I was enthralled by their love story- 2nd chance at romance and I just couldn’t put it down. Emerald and Micaden’s chemistry is undeniable. The heat and love is something that you can feel coming off the pages even with all the angst. If you do like Dark Romances with unique twists then this is the one for you. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *****
I really liked what I read the first time in reading this author so when I came across this one I gave it a whirl. This will also turn out to be a bit of a darker one than I have been reading lately so it will be a change. Brochan and Emerald take you into this one with them catching you unawares. You quickly get caught up especially with the puzzle parts. You will be spun into this like a spider does its victims. You will also do want to have her wake up at times but it is part of the pull. I was surprised that I could like him as I did but it is how this author rolls in getting you tied up into something. As you go in this one you will not want to separate from it until you reach the end. If you did you found yourself wondering about them alittle too much.
I am not going to talk about the story, because I don’t want to spoil anything, so I am just saying that I loved this book. Once I started reading I couldn’t stop.
I have read a few book by this author and I love how she always surprises me with her twist and turn. I always have a “what just happened? But …” moment while reading.
The characters are complex and layered and full of emotions.
And I loved the Shakespeare quotes at the beginning of each chapter. There really fit the essence of that chapter. That is something that really adds to the reading experience.
V.F. Mason is an amazing dark romance writer and when I know she has a release coming in the genre, I am all over it! And I am never disappointed! Micaden’s Madness consumed me right from the start! I devoured this story. Could not put it down until I finished it.
This story was so tragic and heartbreaking. Micaden and Emerald broke my heart from the start. Both had endured and suffered so much. This is a story you need to experience with no spoilers. This author makes you feel at every turn. We are taken on a journey told in dual point of views going from past to present and will captivate you and grip you to the very end.
Micaden’s Madness was dark, emotional and engaging. I loved every minute of reading it, even as I cringed. I want to share to much, but with all the twists and turns, anything shared could be a spoiler. All I can say is I loved it and highly recommend it if you love dark romances!
4.5 stars! Loved it! Read and reviewed for Reviews From The Heart.
Happy reading!
This was such a good book! It fills you with questions, leaves you wondering thru half the book, makes you think you know what’s going on, and will still manage to throw a surprise or two your way! If you like dark romance and suspense, you’ll love this book!!

Wow!
Micaden’s Madness is a suspensefully, dark romance that tells the story of Micaden and Emerald. It is intense and twisted at times, and I recommend that you do not read any spoilers before beginning. The story was well written with flashbacks throughout the book. I felt they were well placed and the story flowed smoothly.
Micaden is the typical anti-hero, and I went back and forth several times from loving to hating him. As the story progressed, I understood him and his need for revenge much better. Emerald has a love story developing in her head, and she decides to write a book about it. Emerald’s brother is very protective of her as she has no recollection of her past after an accident. Although she insists on going to the island where the story takes place. That’s where everything starts to unravel!
I was completely captivated with this gripping story and could not put it down!
A definite add to your TBR list!

In the company of killers and completely unaware. Outstanding!
In a nutshell, Micaden’s Madness is tragically beautiful, much like Shakespeare, which the author quotes at the beginning of each chapter, Brochan and Emerald’s story will break even the hardest heart. I loved the intricacies of the dual storylines and how Mason manages to bring it all together epically. Moral of this story, never assume you know the whole story until you hear it from the source.
Be warned, this tale is told with flashbacks in order to supply all the background details, but I was captivated from the beginning. I loved visiting with some old friends and I will not miss another release from this author.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book blew me away!! I loved the darkness of the story. Micaden and Emerald Have a history like no other and this story tells it. What they both suffered is a lot and not for the faint of heart. It is seriously dark. I love how the author weaves this story together with Emerald’s book- very creative!!! I love how it is dark, steamy, intriguing all wrapped into one. It is definitely a story I would recommend. I loved the ending too!! I seriously love all of Lachlan’s crew, they are twisted. Great read and don’t plan on starting this when you want to get things done that day because you will end up reading this cover to cover!
This was a fantastic story that was written in such a unique way. It is a dark, intense, and unpredictable book. I didn’t want to put it down. I really enjoyed this book and how it was written. The story is told from multiple view points and at different times in their lives so you can really put their whole story together while adding a creative twist to it. This book tells the story of Emerald and Micaden. They have both been through so much but had very different ideas of what their future would hold. This book has so many twists and turns and I never knew where it was going to go. This was such a great story and I would highly recommend this book!
4.5 stars. I was deeply intrigued by the synopsis, but I really wasn’t sure what to except as this was my first book by this author. If you are looking for a dark, well-written romance, then you will like this book. It is a story of intense love, betrayal and revenge. Micaden evolved from a sweet young man, to a honed killer with a thirst for vengeance given a betrayal and the aftermath that he experienced. Emerald has missing memories after an accident, but pieces of her past are slowly coming to light – however, she can’t determine if they are memories or a story that she has written in her head. Micaden is one of those dark anti-heroes that you hate to love. Emerald is a pretty strong likable character as well. My heart broke for both of them given all that they endured, but they were resilient and survivors. I was completely sucked in and I really wasn’t sure how this book was going to end.
The book starts off mostly from Emerald’s POV with some very short chapters from Micaden’s. Uniquely, Emerald’s past is done as chapters in a story that she’s writing which turn out to be buried memories from before “the accident”. Later on in the book, you get more a of dual POV in alternating chapters as well as memories from Micaden’s past. I thought some of the beginning of the book moved slowly, but then it quickly picked up the pace. This book had action, some violence, steamy sex scenes, and great characters, which kept me entertained until the very end. I really enjoyed this book – so much so that I immediately downloaded another one of this author’s books. I received this from Give Me Books.
*Trigger: There is some abuse and an attempted rape scene (not by the anti-hero); graphic violence
“Obsession and insanity go hand in hand.”
My heart is pounding and just No!
I had to set the book down and step back a couple times – I couldn’t breath
Micaden and Emerald’s story was an encompassing and potent tale told in both pov’s.
Mason exquisitely implemented this dark psychological tale bringing the reader in and captivating them from the opening page to the closing. The storyline has multiple timelines, don’t worry it is easy to follow -We travel via “the book” through Emerald’s past as she slowly regains some of her memories that were lost in the accident – this gives us just enough sustenance to give the presence some foundation. Then there are the times we spend with Brochan and his memories, this is where we find ourselves catapulted into a tailspin of angst and darkness. Micaden holds most of the present with a few glimpses of how and why he came to be.
The multiple pov’s only adds to the telling – It reaffirms the belief that multiple people can see the exact same tragedy but each will see something different – a different cause and effect
I enjoyed the way the storyline unfolded – The quiet moments that lulled us into a feeling of serenity and tranquility followed by sudden and unexpected twists and turns that leave us gasping for breath
A must read for those who enjoy dark psychological thrillers
“Is it possible to experience love and hate at the same time for a person?” “Yes, yes it is.” – Micaden’s Madness
Oh my goodness I absolutely loved reading this book! It kept me spinning and guessing what was going to happen or be revealed next! So good!
This is not my first read from the author, but Micaden’s Madness definitly the book that make me feel everything. From innocent love to darkness of revenge to heart-breaking over the hard journey they have to endure to be together. This is the first book from the author that make me cry at steamy scene!
Oh my heart… Micaden’s Madness just slay me with all the feels. Even the darkness feels devastating. I really tought the author love me so much for giving me a brooding, Beard, man bun hottie as a hero. But really, she is really is a slayer.
Warning: this book is dark. But more than that, your heart will break and be rebuild pieces by pieces for the simple fact, LOVE
Absolutely amazing! My new favorite
Good god this story was fantastic and so consuming it was impossible to put down so well written and the characters were so well developed your sucked right into their world and you can feel the pain and the heartbreak of what Emerald and Micaden faced and it was so unfair as we get to see the flashbacks and the present which I loved and the anger that fueled everything that was coming and its not pretty. I truly loved loved this story and fell in love with them. This is one story I wont be forgetting any time soon.
This book has sparked some existential thoughts in me. Does a serial killer deserve a happy ending or love? If he kills bad people, does that absolve him of his crimes?
Micaden’s Madness was a whirlwind. Dark and twisted, leaving you wondering what would come next. Emerald and Micaden have a painful history; one that gets slowly enfolded. Almost painfully slow. Once the story line picked up, I became much more invested.
I felt like I was on a precipice for much of the story, just waiting to hear the true story of their past. And once I reached that precipice, I felt slightly let down. Without sharing any spoilers, I’ll just say that I wasn’t satisfied with Emerald and Micaden’s resolution. It felt too…easy? This is something I’ve recently discussed with Queen J. I’m discovering I want my characters to grovel. Forgiveness doesn’t come easily to me; but only in regards to my fictional characters.
But that’s just me. Don’t let my unforgiving fictional nature stop you from reading this book. It was so intriguing and interesting that I’m now determined to read more by V.F. Mason. Keep an eye out here for the future reads!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
If madness has a name…it’s hers. She is an artist seeking solace. He is a serial killer seeing vengeance. She doesn’t remember. He remembers it all. She is broken. He is obsessed. She wants truth. He wants revenge. One of them is guilty. One of them is innocent. Both of them want to win. And for that one of them has to die.
This is a dark romance and if you have never had to opportunity to read a dark romance from V.F. Mason then I have to tell you, you are missing some of the best dark romances I have read. She excels at them and they never fail to suck me in from the first page to the last. This one to had quotes from Shakespeare at the beginning of each chapter and I loved that so much. It fit perfectly with the book and added a special little something. This is the story of Brochan and Emerald and it will break your heart. There is just no way around it but it is so worth it. It is also so addicting that you will not be able to put it down. I love when stories are told in flashback and you have to try to put the pieces together. Emerald is missing parts of her life and she just really isn’t sure, like you as a reader will be, what is real and what is fake. You know your reading an amazing book when you are kind of sort of in love with a serial killer. That to me just speaks volumes as to how well V.F. Mason writes her character’s. These two are meant to be no matter what and Brochan was a very important part of Emerald’s life at one point. She just doesn’t remember. However when they meet again things begin to all unravel and that is when you will end up on the edge of your seat. I loved this book and it is a must read for any dark romance reader. Thank you V.F. Mason for writing such an amazing story once again that sucked me in and had me holding on till the very end.
I enjoyed this dark, intense and suspenseful read. The story is gripping and tragic and will keep you fully focused on it. If there was one big drawback for me it was the timeline skipping around. This is really something I am not a fan of in any format, be it book , movie or television. That however, is my own personal opinion and should not reflect badly on the book as a whole.
