This book is just so smart.
So much thought and detail and hidden gems throughout.
This is the first book by this author and if she writes like this in her others I’ll be reading them for sure.
Method is just perfectly thought out. I remember when Heath Ledger was the joker and how he went into such a dark place to play that role. Sadly he wasn’t able to come out of it but it just shows you that method acting is serious what happens to these humans and the people around them can change lives.
I absolutely loved Lucas and Mila. Getting to read their love made them one of my new favorite couples. It wasn’t all rainbows and glitter. It was real and raw and what relationships/ marriage is all about.
This story takes you on a ride you’ll need handle bars for. I stayed up until 2:30am reading this because I couldn’t put it down.
I just can’t get over how clever this book was. Seriously! When my questions got answered I was like, “wow she’s a great writer.”
“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of
so they can see that it’s not the answer.”
— Jim Carrey
Before I start to read a book by Kate Stewart I have two thoughts. One is: “Yay, bring on the angst!” The other one is: “Shit, the angst!” Once I’m a little bit further into the story that dread falls away and the glee remains.
Lucas Walker has made it to the top as one of Hollywood’s most successful actors. He has it all, the fame, the money, the whirlwind love story of a lifetime and a marriage to the woman he would sell his soul for.
“You still think you can get the girl, Hollywood?”
“I’ll never stop trying,” he replies before we manage another kiss, one that goes far deeper.
His best friend and actor Blake West’s suicide tosses him into a dark place – guilt about his own role in Blake’s downfall consumes him but he keeps his grief inside, bottles it up. When a once-in-a-lifetime role is offered to him he loses himself in it, immerses himself into the character like never before. Mila starts to see changes about her husband, changes that’ll turn their life together upside down and put their marriage at risk.
This story is told in a big part in flashbacks (I know a lot of people don’t like those) and they are essential to understand why Mila fights for her marriage to her last breath. But I think this is a good time to mention that the extensive use of them keeps the story from going forward. That doesn’t mean that the flashbacks slow the story down. No, the angst does its work and keeps you glued to the pages, but it made it a little frustrating.
“Perfect wife, perfect life, but I’m totally fucking lost.”
In the present Lucas had my stomach in my throat and my heart in my guts for a good old violent churn. He was cold, callous, unfeeling and it was agonizing to unite his character with the loving, funny, sweet and modest guy he was in the past while he courted Mila. He was a keeper then, so romantic, down-to-earth and honest about his feelings. And damn, those flashback chapters about their beginning made the hurt so worth it and I knew, eventually, they would be alright. The road there was long, hard and stony though and there were times I wanted to shake Lucas, punch him and tell him to get his shit together.
“Okay, Hollywood,” I admit tearfully , “you got the girl. Now what?”
“Now everything,” he promises before his lips crush mine.
Mila’s sass, intelligence and strength were my favorite thing. Her tenacity and need to help Lucas and to be supportive without being a doormat made her his perfect life partner. She was the rock Lucas could lean on even when things turned into a train wreck, yet she still drew the line and knew when she had to look out for herself. I had so much admiration and love for her. For them. Lucas and Mila’s relationship was unconventional, definitely dysfunctional but still so full of love.
“Do you know what the definition of hell is? Because I do. It’s getting the life you wanted only to fuck it up because you didn’t know how to embrace it and be happy.”
The extent of Lucas immersion into this new role becomes apparent in the last couple of chapters of the book and it’s a whopper of twist when everything starts to click into place. It is so smartly done that I didn’t see it coming. It’s a mindfuck extraordinaire.
After finishing this book I have no idea why somebody would want to become a Method actor. Yes, they are exceptional talents but if you have a tendency to obsess over stuff (and most of them do, hence they are exceptional talents) it’s a one-way street. It’s lonely, toxic and more often than not these artists fall into depression without much hope to crawl out again. And how do you tell when you don’t just toe the line of insanity but step over it? It’s such a fine line, a balancing act.
The last chapter had me sobbing and looking back it made the journey so worth it.
METHOD certainly is an extraordinary tale about the love of a lifetime between two remarkable characters. Cleverly crafted, it manages to walk the tightrope to be angsty without falling off the ledge and becoming unbearably oppressive. This is why this author is one of my top favorites – METHOD is a typically atypical Kate Stewart story that I definitely recommend for readers who enjoy getting their heart bruised and battered but coming out smiling on the other side anyway.
If you have any desire to become an actor or date one, read this book. It’ll challenge every idea you had about Hollywood and will make you wonder whether the glitz an glamour are worth it.
“I love fighting with you. I love the way you look at me. I love the way it feels when we’re together. I love the silk of your skin, the velvet of your beautiful voice. I love the way you caress my forehead when you think I’m asleep. I love that you take all of the socks out of the dryer and count them. I love that you feel so fucking perfect when I push inside you, the way you moan, the way you come. I love your elf ears, the noises you make after you sip wine. The fact that you pick up pennies, no one does that anymore.”
We smile at each other as his eyes water, and his voice clogs with emotion.
“I love that you laugh inappropriately when you’re nervous. I love that you’re so smart. I love that, Mila. I love that you’re a natural teacher because I’ve already learned so much from you. I wasn’t ever able to tell you that before because of foolish pride, but you know all of me now. All of me, even the parts I didn’t want you to.”
Friendship can lead you through the good times and the bad. For Lucas – the bond that he experienced with Blake has taken him through the depths of the climb an actor experiences in their quest for success. Over the years, the two found themselves acting as the sounding board, shoulder to lean on and the strength behind the others failures and success. Now Blake is gone and Lucas finds himself in an upheaval that he never could have predicted.
Imagine being the most eligible bachelor in Hollywood, where all of your desires can come true. For Mila – meeting the man at the center of the spotlights was certainly unexpected. Instantly the two experienced an attraction unlike any other. In spite of Mila’s desire to not to become a cliché, the duo find their chemistry absolutely undeniable. Living the fairytale was never in the plans, but Lucas and Mila find themselves enveloped in the magic that clearly surrounds their love for one another. Then the unexpected rocks their world in ways that no one would have imagined.

The plot follows one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and the devastation that has entered Lucas’ life. Phenomenal! Stupendous! Spectacular! Wonderful! Amazing! Awesome! Unforgettable! Marvelous! And, yes, I can totally keep bragging about this freaking emotional, bring the whole box of tissues book!
Kate Stewart has certainly outdone herself!! I loved EVERY freaking emotional word!!!
I Loved this book so much that I am having trouble putting my thoughts into words. This book is most definitely an emotional roller coaster ride. There are some very highs and very lows. It is a beautiful story of Hollywood and Dame also known as Lucas and Mila, they are the golden couple of Hollywood. This is so much more than a story of a loving Hollywood couple. It is the story of what an actor and their significant other goes thru when and actor gets involved in “Method” acting. Lucas is the current heartthrob actor, and Mila is his wife. Lucas will do anything and everything to immerse into any part. He will become that character for the duration of any film he is in. Mila understands this, but… My heart kept breaking throughout this wonderful book for these two. Truthfully, no matter how much I loved my significant other, I do not know if I could have done what Mila did. Which is probably why so many “Hollywood” couples do not last, which makes me sad for them.
Kate Stewart wrote about several problems that seriously affect our society in this book, depression and suicide and the “casting couch”, and did it spectacularly! She wrote about some of the serious problems that some of our beloved acting heroes go thru in their profession.
OMG, we also go to see….. Oops, sorry folks, I do not give spoilers away. I will say this; it was some of my absolute favorite characters from a previous book from this fabulous Lady. Thank you, Kate, it was great seeing these people again!!!
If you like to read highly emotional books, Method is definitely for you!!!
Thank you for reading my review.
WOW – this book! I will be honest…I was intrigued with this story from the beginning, and then I wasn’t, and then I was. This is just some genuine brilliant writing by K Stewart and I’m so glad that I stuck with this amazing story.
What I loved about this book….the character development, the surprises, the secondary characters and the impact they had on the hero and heroine, the story-telling about Method acting. At first, it was a bit tricky to follow this story – there is a lot of back and forth in the timeline, and from different points of view. You really need to keep track of what time period they are relaying, and there are even flashbacks within the “present” Chapters. But, I forged on and I was rewarded with a story that went so deep and was so raw.
I loved this hero, Lucas. He was passionate, loyal, tortured, and driven. His character just kept growing on me, and building, and building and building. He had me turning the pages faster than ever because I knew that something big was going to happen. His character is so multi-layered and I cried for him, swooned over him, yelled at him, and wanted to just BE with him. He is an enigma and only a very talented author could have created a character with so much depth.
I had so much admiration for this heroine, Mila. She has incredible strength because there is NO way that I could have survived the turmoil that was their relationship. Her intelligence, confidence, and compassion carried her through their story and relationship. My heart broke for her – I wanted her to leave Lucas so many times and could not understand why she was staying with him; but then it all becomes clear. Her “love grew right along with my resentment.”
This book was nothing like I have read before. I loved each of these characters even after not liking the hero for a good part of the book. His story will break you – his performance will haunt you – and his love for Mila will make you swoon and fall for him. Their story is one I will not forget for a long time. Well done once again K Stewart!!
**ARC REVIEW**
“You are my life, and I am Yours.”
Oh Kate!!! You never disappoint.
I write this review with so much angst and happiness. This was a beautiful story, fiction or not. Their so many true similar stories in this world that are heart wrenching. I applaud you Kate, this is an absolute Gem.
Luca finds himself at the cusp of his acting career. He has a traumatic incident and has lost the most closes and dear person to him. No one understands the true relationship Luca had with his best friend Blake. Being the amazing actor that Luca is, he continues to move forward and take on a role that will escalate his career to complete stardom. Oscar worthy stardom.
In the interim he may lose the love of his life and also may lose himself. His wife Mila is his world, he hers. You can only subject yourself to so much, until you begin to unravel.
What is real and what is fake? What is reality and What is acting?
A book about Friendship, Lost, Trust and Above all Love.
Full of suspense and the chaos of living in the mind of a Method Actor!.
Just truly breathtaking!
Oh, My, Heart. . .This book was EVERYTHING!! Method by Kate Stewart is a raw, passionate journey about two people who were destined to be together. The emotions that waft off of every page were breathtakingly beautiful, hateful at times and so damn hurtful. But, isn’t that what a true relationship is all about? It’s not all sunshine and unicorns and you have to fight to keep it real, keep it Alive!
“Mila, I’m not going to play dumb to your celebrity. I’ve been watching the two of you for years, and I think you’re both lovely. But at no point in time when I watched did I think you were perfect because no marriage is. You are safe here, I promise.”
If you believe that love conquers all, then you need to read Method by Kate Stewart. Lucas and Mila will break your heart but it’s worth every fragmented piece, and then some. I give this book 10 breathtakingly beautiful stars…
Omg. Read. This. Book. Now. Kate holds nothing back in this one. I can’t even say anything about it. It just grips you from the start and never lets go. Book hangover like crazy.
Kate has blown me away again! This book is everything good and has left me not wanting to ruin my feels by starting something new. I read it twice, back to back, to make sure I didn’t miss one single thing. Bravo, standing ovation
Method is a great read. Kate Stewart is one of my one click authors. I went into this one not knowing a whole a lot about it. I saw it popping up in my new-feed a lot but avoided looking at anything about it because I didn’t want other peoples opinions to make me build up the book to something it couldn’t live up too.
I loved this one. It had me hooked from the beginning. It’s beautiful written. I loved the flow of the story and the way it was written.
In the prologue, Lucas is outside Mila’s door. There’s a lot emotion, heartbreak, and love in that prologue. I didn’t know who did what to who and what happened in their relationship but I just after that prologue I wanted them back together. Then the book starts with four months before the prologue.
I was hooked. I loved every bit of this book, the ups and downs and the spiraling out of control. This one is a must read. Loving the White Lair is my favorite book by Kate and I’m not going to say this one took it’s place but Method is definitely tied with Loving the White Lair for my favorite book by Kate.
Kate Stewart is an automatic one-click author. If you’ve read any of her previous books, you’ll know why. Her writing is impeccable. Her words are beautiful. I get lost in every story as if I was right there with them. Experiencing everything they go through.
I went into reading this book blind. Not knowing what to expect. Gahhhh it blew me away. Just when you think you know, you have no idea. You hear about it but never really know what extremes they go through and how their actions affects those around them.
What I love about Kate is when she writes, she doesn’t hold back. She makes you feel all the feels.
Method is a heartbreaking beautiful story and one of my top reads of 2019.
“I think the universe interjects people in your life for a reason, brief or otherwise, to make up for a few shortcomings, to help make sense of things you can’t figure out.”
Kate Stewart’s books are always top reads for me no matter what. I can go in blind without reading the synopsis and just jump into whatever story she has to tell us next, without batting an eyelash.
Man can Kate Stewart write a damn good book. she wrote such a compelling, unique and fantastic story that will keep you up all hours of the night just trying to hurry up and finish reading because you want to get to the part where everything just unravels beautifully.
Method was very different than what I am used to reading, it had me thinking and it had my full attention because there was nothing I could miss otherwise I’d probably feel lost after. But to say the least, it’s a book you will not soon forget about.
This book is about marriage, hardships and ups and downs. I suppose being married to an actor is not an easy feat, but nobody said that life would be, regardless if the person is a famous star or not 😉
It took me a full week to read this book because I was absorbing every word. I felt every sentence. I had to. This is one of those books.
During that week, my heart wasn’t broken, it had disappeared. My heart was in my throat for 7 days, and my face was flushed with emotion over THIS BOOK! I started dreaming about how this book could end. Where can it go from here?
This book didn’t just speak to my soul…it SCREAMED, and then it shredded my heart it’s razor sharp claws. Lucky for me, it also put me back together again. Better than I was before I started.
I think I related to Mila more than I’d like to. I think a lot of women probably have been in her shoes. I know I have, so I felt her betrayal on a deeper level.
Lucas’ love is similar to my husband’s; it’s all consuming, it’s deep and pure, but on his terms. This makes it hard when you need something from them your way, and they refuse to give it.
Kate KNOWS how to write a book!! She never lets me down. She brings it Every. Single. Time. This was no exception. This book is phenomenal. Everyone who picks it up will fall in love.
This was not your average movie star romance. Kate Stewart knows how to tell a love story that is gripping, honest, and raw. Method had me intrigued from the start, wondering what happened, how is this going to play out, and will Lucas be your typical movie star bad boy??? I was in awe of Lucas and Mila’s undying and unconditional love for one another. Mila was always there to support Lucas, never wavering from his side. Lucas treated Mila like a Princess, but I was also so confused by his choices and how he chose to work on his craft. When tragedy hits home, Lucas doesn’t face his grief head on, but instead tries to move forward with his life and his career. Lucas loses himself during the role of a lifetime and loses site of what truly matters in life. Promises and hearts are broken and for the first time since they met, Mila isn’t sure love is enough. This story was beautiful, breathtaking and frustrating. There were a lot of flash backs and I was still left with questions, but I loved it and that epilogue was a tearjerker!
One thing that I enjoy about Kate’s books is that she always writes a different type of story every time. This is no exception. I don’t want to give too many details because I think this one would be better to just dive into.
To me, this book is about marriage at the core. It’s about love, grief, trust, anger, forgiveness, strength, and weakness. It’s about experiencing a partner’s struggles and learning and growing.
This book was fresh, honest, different, captivating, and eye-opening. It’s a bit sad at times, but includes much love and learning as well. As a bonus, it seems to be well researched which I always appreciate!
Just read it. I think you’ll like it.
I really wanted to love this book. Everyone was going on about how great it was, and I just didn’t connect with it. The story line was a good one. For me it had the potential to be a real emotional read. And it wasn’t the characters, because I thought that they were pretty good too. There was a lot of time hopping in the book, and while I understand why the story may have needed to be told in that way, I think that may be why I was unable to form a connection to the characters and the story. I will say that I did shed a couple tears at the end and felt like it ended well. It wasn’t a bad book. Or maybe I wasn’t in the frame of mind for a book like this at the time. But I do think that, despite my personal feelings it was a good book and I can see why so many people had recommended it. The story is a very powerful one.
This is Kate Stewart’s best book to date.
Despite this book being all over my newsfeed for the last few weeks I went into this book blind and slightly apprehensive but OMG I seriously loved every word. I have never been more grateful for a weekend of brilliant sunshine and so I could relax in the garden and enjoy this beauty in peace.
Kate Stewart did an amazing job with this book covering a very hard and emotional topic along with her main characters descent into madness. The twist was something I honestly never saw coming and blew me away, simply brilliant.
I simply adored and loved Mia, the strength this woman had with what she had to deal with in the husband Lucas. Lucas was so broken after the loss of his best friend he was seriously spiralling into insanity, he went from caring, devoted husband to a complete bastard. Mia is a braver woman then I to take him back.
You will honestly feel everything in this book. The words seep off the pages into your veins with all the raw emotion. You are left on the edge of your seat unsure as to what Kate Stewart is going to do to you next.
I am super excited to see what Kate Stewart brings us next

4 ‘Remember the rules, Dame’ Stars!
ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
As always, Kate Stewart makes us go through an angsty and emotional roller coaster. The woman does it Every. Single. Time. That’s why she is a kickass writer, because she never fails. Her stories are unique, with outstanding characters and their very complex personalities, lots of chemistry and a whole lot of feels. Method, of course, was no exception and it really surpised me with the twists we found all over it.
Method is Kate’s newest standalone romance and it’s the journey of a beloved Hollywood marriage going through a difficult time in life. Lucas and Mila Walker seem to have the perfect relationship but do they? Lucas is extremely affected after the death of his best friend and, as always and being the method actor that he is, he decides to focus all his energy and emotions to a very complex and dark movie project. And that is the start of what makes this couple fall apart. Will they be able to revive their connection after all that happens?
We are thin hearts trying to break through thick walls.
Of course, Kate made me cry and feel all over again. The woman keeps my emotions running high with the fantastic and fresh pieces of writing she delivers. It actually took me a while to understand and connect completely with Lucas and Mila but, as always, Kate does not write your typical easy romance. Method and the theme of it are so original and so well developed. I didn’t even know method actors existed since now and WOW, what a journey Mila and Lucas go through. It definitely is not an easy one, but of course, all worth it in the end.
“Take a good look, baby, I’m the one who owns your lips, your pussy, and your immaculate heart. I am the last man standing.”
These two love each other so much, and even though sometimes Lucas seems so out of it, it is so clear that he loves Mila more than anything. As he says, Mila is his answer, and a strong as hell heroine who loves her husband just as much, with all the flaws included. And as you can imagine, these two do not lack of mindblowing chemistry and a whole lot of beautiful (and heartbreaking) moments between them. Boy, I surely am happy they got back to their good place together. They deserve it.
It’s wanting our love even after we’ve seen the imperfections that makes or breaks us.
Therefore, my rating for Method is 4 STARS because this unique, emotional and sexy Hollywood romance made me feel all the emotions possible and that is a sign of a good book, ladies and gents! Kate Stewart keeps being on my auto-buy category, she is one of my absolute favorites and she definitely did not disappoint me with this one. I loved Lucas and Mila, another fantastic couple that work so well together and who deserved their HEA 100%. If you still haven’t checked out Kate’s work, I don’t know what you are waiting for, go do it right now!
Sometimes you read a book that utterly wrecks you in all the best ways—it steals your tears, leaves you breathless, and you don’t even know what to do with yourself once you’ve finished.
Method by Kate Stewart is THAT book. The one you spend hours searching for. It will move you, rip you apart, tear your heart to shreds, and make you fall hopelessly in love.
“I’m drowning without you.” His voice rips, jagged and cutting, penetrating my aching chest. But it’s the anger that wins.
“No, you threw yourself in the deep end,” I reply lifelessly, “and you took me with you.”
My heart . . . do you hear it cracking?!?
I knew very little about method acting prior to reading this novel. Watching it come to life was brilliant—fascinating, heartbreaking, moving, and so real. Told in the past and present, you’re taken on a journey that you’ll never forget.
Ms. Stewart absolutely blew me away. Lucas and Mila have a love so beautiful, so strong, you feel it in your bones. The love they share is soul deep, and with every word and every action you just knew—something real and powerful was pouring from the pages. And how amazing it is that simple words can create that feeling. That’s when you know that you are reading a book that is extraordinary.
In Ms. Stewart’s words . . .
“If anything, you’re creating an escape for a few hours, that’s something. And music, movies, books, they all have the power to change a lot, or at the very least, leave a lasting impression.”
Method did just that. Left an impression on my heart where it will forever remain.
Caution, this book can cause book hangover, and yes, it’s a real thing. After reading this book days ago, I still am unable to find words to describe what this book did to me emotionally and I can’t seem to get into another book. So, thanks for that Kate Stewart! However, it was worth it!
