There are so many things to like about this story. Tyler is an easy to relate to character, and so are the struggles that he goes through on a daily basis. Feeling as if he doesn’t particularly belong while dealing with a bullying babysitter at home makes his day to day a struggle. He’s constantly looking for an escape from his life, and he finds one in a way he never would’ve guessed.
This story has everything from mad scientists to a grand good versus evil scheme topping with heaps of superpowers. The lean toward supernatural beings such as angels was a unique addition to the story.
As Tyler goes from living a life where he has no power to living one filled with them, it was interesting to see how his character arc developed. From start to finish, he was a solid character, and I loved seeing the way he found confidence in himself.
This is a fantastic start to what looks like a very promising series.
It’s not a bite from a radioactive spider; that’s already been done. It’s not being born on another planet; that one’s been done, too. But a cesspool? Wow. Tyler Thompson is just thirteen, but it looks like he is the one *someone* has been waiting for. And thanks to a dip in a cesspool – along with some mysterious chemical concoction being disposed of in that same cesspool – he and his dog have both acquired some serious powers. Just what is the extent of those powers? Stay tuned for the next installment, which I’m really looking forward to.
Quite well written. Great characters an all around entertaining story. I certainly recommend this one to anyone looking for a great read.
An engaging story with a warning
I picked this book out of curiosity and, to my full satisfaction, was completely engrossed in reading up to the last page. Tyler, mischievous and special in his abilities, quickly became a guy I cared about, and his endeavors kept me on the edge of the seat. Loved the style and pace, and some scenes (like the one in the canteen of the Logan Pre School with burgers and chocolate pudding flying) brought a smile to my face.
Although it is presumed to be a story for teens, it carries a message to young and grown-ups alike. Published in 2018 (and, logically, written even earlier), Metatron carries a hint at the present and, accidentally or not, sounds actual to our time. Highly recommended.
This is my first book by Laurence St. John. The Metatron: A Superhero Fiction Adventure Series is an enjoyable adolescence sci-fi story of what can happen when you roam and explore an area you have repeatedly been told not to go near.
Tyler is a typical kid who loves playing his video games. He is smart, but not smart enough, when he finds himself along with his dog Maxx in trouble and covered in green slim. With their bodies going through physical changes, Tyler discovers he has superpowers.
What is a kid to do, use these powers to seek revenge against the ones who hurt you, or use your new abilities for good? There are many secrets slowly being revealed, and the person who is responsible for killing his dad is finally brought to justice.
I look forward to see what happens next in this great series.
A must read.
Wonderful read!
Young teens and pre-teens will love this book. The author has done a great job in making the main character relatable to his intended audience. It a little far-fetched, but it needs to be. If it was completely realistic it wouldn’t be as fun and wouldn’t appeal to the readers who are going to really enjoy reading this.
The author should seriously consider doing a graphic novel version. When my son was younger, a lot of his friends only read graphic novels and this would allow the story to be enjoyed why a whole new range of readers.
