I didn’t expect this book, it was a great surprise from Hailey Turner, and I was more than happy to read it.
Liam and Oliver knew each other since their youth, but as adult they didn’t know what they became. Working together is a way for Liam to try to reconnect with Oliver, except the man refused to let him in.
I loved both men. Oliver is strong and stubborn just like Liam actually. Liam seems to be superficial but he’s way more than what he lets people think of him. He regrets profoundly what happen to Oliver and this time he refuses to let his chance pass.
The plot is about Liam and Oliver working on a case connect to Jamie and Kyle. Bennet is in London ready to wreak havoc again. Jaimie and Kyle are also in this book. Some Chapter are about them and I loved it. The book is mainly with Liam and Oliver’s POV, but we also have Kyle and Jaimie sometimes.
The story was super good, and I won’t lie, I cried. Like really cried. Hailey Turner played with my heart and she was very good to make me believe some things… I hated her a little bit for that.
This book is the final book of the series. It was a beautiful ending with love and hope.
Bravo!
It only takes a spark
Although I know this is Liam’s book, I am so happy we got to share in Kyle and Jamie’s joy. The scenes involving them and the team made me swoon with love and happiness. Not to mention the sexy games that Jamie and Kyle play, hot, hot, hot; I am forever a fan of diamonds and champagne.
I have wanted Liam’s story since I first met him and knew it would take a special person to steal his heart. “I never wanted your apology. I only ever wanted you.” Oliver is quite frankly incredible and I love him so much. He is definitely going to keep Liam on his toes. They are amazing together and have a sizzling connection. This is most assuredly a Hailey Turner book so hang on to something while you read this as it’s gonna be a bumpy but exhilarating ride. A fantastic conclusion to a phenomenal series.
In the Solace is the sixth and final book in the Metahuman Files series, a sci-fi, gay romance series that blends action, romance, suspense, and science fiction into an incredible story within an intricate world. This book CANNOT standalone, and the first five Metahuman Files books MUST be read first. I would also suggest reading the three (free!) short stories and three novellas for more context. Every book and story within this universe is fantastic.
The book felt like a long epilogue, which makes sense since the main arc of the series was concluded in book five, In the Requiem. In the Solace gives us Jamie and Kyle’s wedding day, and a glimpse of their lives after retiring from active duty. It then goes to focus on Liam and reunite him with his love interest, Oliver. Liam and Oliver’s story had me on the edge of my seat with all the ups and downs, twists and turns, that they had to endure before they finally got their happy ever after. Hailey Turner did a great job with developing her characters and creating such an interesting and absorbing plot. I loved the second-chance love and frenemies-to-lovers tropes that were prominent throughout the story. This book is a must-read for anyone who is a fan of the pervious five Metahuman Files books.
Greg Boudreaux narrated this audiobook and did a fantastic job. I enjoyed his voice and was impressed with the range of voices and accents he can do. Each character sounded distinct and it was quite easy for me to follow along in the story. In the Solace has a lot of action scenes and Greg knows exactly how to perform them—he does a great job and I was on the edge of my seat, hardly breathing during some moments. The audiobook production was well done and there were no errors.
I highly recommend this series. I fell in love with all the characters from book one and binged all the books as fast as I could. If you love action and romance with a really sophisticated and well-crafted world building, then this is the series for you.
A rating. The perfect ending for this amazing series. I loved getting to revisit all these characters, but the absolutely best part of the story was getting to see Liam find his HEA…even through the tears. Loved it.
If you haven’t read this series, YOU NEED TO! It’s amazing!! And yes, you need to read all six books (and the 3 novellas).
4 ½ Stars
What a wonderful end to an excellent, excellent series. (Yes, I meant to say it twice because it is worth it.) As with the previous books, In the Solace gives readers well-formed, unique characters, lots of action in a compelling storyline, and some super-hot sexy times.
While reading the wedding and honeymoon scenes, I kept flashing back through the series and the way these two came to love each other so fiercely and so effortlessly while suffering through the torture this author oh so gleefully inflicted upon them. The off the charts desire that drew them together in the first place is still as strong as ever. I was smiling (and crying a bit) in satisfaction as Jamie and Kyle finally committed legally to what they had been emotionally committed to for quite some time. I appreciate the closure the author gave me with this couple.
Liam and Oliver’s story is interesting and sexy. The action scenes are well done, dragging me into their world as they battle the bad guys, incurring more of the author’s diabolical treatment as it progresses. The sexy times are very well done. mmmmmmm
I would have liked to have more backstory for Liam and Oliver. What is there is interesting, but more on their initial friendship before they parted ways would have helped strengthen my sympathy for one and see more of the other without the hero tinted glasses would have made me appreciate him more as he is now.
The secondary characters are supportive of the storyline and it was great to see characters from previous books making their marks on these pages.
I will be rereading the Metahuman Files. They are too good to put aside.
I look forward to more from this author.
Oh my freaking goodness!
The author decided to surprise readers with this book and it is so worth the wait and the expectation. We get time with the series first couple, Jamie and Kyle, as well as seeing a new couple in Liam and Oliver.
You guys, the Honeymoon scene is fantastic. It is so Jamie and Kyle and extremely hot. These two have been heating things up since their first encounter and they don’t disappoint here.
We get to head to London and explore Liam’s world. I am so happy that we get to see more of his life and the challenges that he is having. Oliver is a good counter point for Liam and shows us how much Liam has changed from who he use to be when he was younger.
A lot of action happens in this story and our guys are always in the thick of things. So much happens to them and I don’t want to give anything away. I feel like your only disappointment is that this is it for the series. I’m holding out hope that we will get another short story or more later on down the road.
If you love action, military, snark, laughter, romance and hot times then you need to read this series and this book. You need to read the series in order. Not a standalone.
I admit that I haven’t read all of the shorter stories in this series, but this was a great way to wrap up the loose ends and explore Liam and his side of the pond in more detail.
First of all, the book begins with the happenings surrounding and on Jamie and Kyle’s wedding day. The events are told from both men’s POVs, so it’s really quite special. The honeymoon brings the intense heat that only Jamie and Kyle can create, and it was definitely combustible.
After the nuptials, Liam heads back to England to face the frustrating position his public reveal has put his career in. His grandmother, the Queen, does not want him in the field, and he has basically been benched for the last year. However, the chance to finally take down the threat of the Splice labs and deal with the Reborn IRA and Bennett comes to Liam’s corner of the world; where it won’t matter if he is recognized, and he is allowed back on active duty.
MI6 agent Oliver Archer, whom we’ve met previously, is once again assigned to Liam’s team as a liaison. The tension was thick before, but now we get an insider’s view to the why behind the snide comments and bitterness. Let’s just say that Liam was a real prat in his youth, and Oliver has been paying the price for Liam’s actions since they were young.
Turner allows the hurt and resentment room to breathe, and in time, Oliver starts to see that Liam might have grown into a better man than he was as a boy. The friendship is tentative at first, but danger always seems to bring feelings to the surface.
The action was great as always, and seeing Jamie and Kyle back in the field one last time was bittersweet. But, I felt like this book, aside from the wedding, should have belonged to Liam and Oliver. I liked the idea of them as a couple, but I didn’t really connect with them the way I did with Jamie/Kyle or Alexei/Sean. There just wasn’t enough time solely focused on them to become a power couple.
Turner once again caused unnecessary stress on my heart for a few moments, as is her wont. But this time, I felt that the boundaries between fictional reality and pushing that reality a little too far were stretched pretty thin. The good guys won the day, and Liam found a comfortable place to settle his warrior’s heart. And, although Liam and Oliver are starting their happily ever after, Oliver’s new life has just begun.
Happy reading!
* I received an ARC of this book and I am leaving my honest review. *
Following the series, every book that comes out is a treat. Ms Turner created a world full of action, superpowers and MM romance, so this book 6 brought one more page-turner story in this world. I am not sure how much tell you without spoiled the book for you, so I am just telling you that we finally got the so-much expected and well deserved HEA between Jamie and Kyle with heartwarming, sweet vows included. Of course the book is also about Liam and Oliver and how they needed to overcome insecurities, some angst, danger and themselves to be together. I strongly recommend to read this book as part of the series to fully understand all the references, backstory, twists and turns of the plot. Wonderful reading!!! A must have for anyone as fan of the series as me.
I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Ive been waiting for Liam’s story for a long time, and I wasnt disappointed. And we got to see Jamie and Kyle’s wedding! I recommend this series so hard!
5+ Stars!
Into the Solace is book 6 in the Metahuman Files series and it needs to be read in order or you’ll be missing out on one of the best Sci-Fi series you’ve read.
The story is told from Jaymie, Kyle, Liam & Oliver’s POVs, and even if the main focus is on Liam & Oliver and the mission in London to pursue Murphy, the head of the Reborn IRA, and Former CIA Deputy Director Carter Bennett, we also get to witness Jaymie and Kyle’s wedding and part of their honeymoon, which was swoon-worthy and sweet. Of course, knowing Hailey Turner as I (and her fans) know her, it wouldn’t stay schmoopy for long, would it? LOL
I loved Ollie and Liam. I could practically see the sparks every single time their paths crossed and not just when Ollie was still angry at Liam, the chemistry between them was undeniable and I just loved them together. I loved that Liam was so determined to apologize and make amends when he realized how badly he’d hurt Ollie with his actions so many years ago.
The book is action-packed, fast-paced, sexy and emotional. It’s also angsty and there are a few heartstopping moments here and there, but they were well-balanced with some very entertaining scenes and a thrilling storyline, plus we got to catch up with Team Alpha. I simply can’t recommend this book and the whole series enough, you won’t regret picking it up.
*** Copy provided for my reading pleasure, a review wasn’t a requirement. ***
This was one hell of a fantastic, grab-you-by-the-feels, amazing, exciting, emotionally charged, fast paced, fascinating, action packed, incredible, intense, interesting, grab-you-by-the-throat-and-shake-you-like-a-rag-doll, five alarm flaming hot, poignant, bittersweet, unconventional, and totally awesome end to a marvelous masterpiece of a series. It had me hooked from beginning to end, and I would DEFINITELY recommend getting this entire series ASAP!
4.5 / 5 Stars
I am going to miss these guys so much. It seems like yesterday this series started.
This book is full of emotions, maybe even more so because of the fact that this is the last one. The characters are old friends we knew in previous books and finally, after so many hardships, they are all content and happy with their lives. Kyle and Jamie’s wedding is something really beautiful to experience. While Liam and Oliver’s story adds its own to the book, understanding, friendship and finally a great love that fulfill them.
There’s also a lot of action like the rest of the series and the guys have to deal with it before they can -finally- get their happy ending. I would have loved to read more about Oliver and Liam since there were several things happening at the same time. But overall, it was a great one and I still hope there are more to come.
Great finale to one of the best urban fantasy series I’ve ever read.
This book is everything the fans of the series could wish for. We finally got to see Kyle and Jamie getting married and intriguing Liam, who featured in a few previous books, got the story of his own in hot ex friends /enemies to lovers trope. MDF and UMG join forces one more. If you’re not familiar with this series please start with book one because it is the only way to truly appreciate and enjoy this story. The world building and character development is amazing. Ms. Turner’s attention to detail and imagination is out of this world. I must admit that the first chapter of book one was a bit confusing to me so I had to read some passages twice to get a grasp on the world she created, but after that I couldn’t stop. Action scenes in my opinion are most difficult to write, but she perfected it to an art form. There’s a perfect balance between action, heat and emotion in all of her books including this one. I was immediately drawn in by the array of colorful characters and each from this “family chosen” gets a story of their own, while the plot develops through the series.
Highly recommend!
5 stars – I loved it!
Colonel Liam Wessex is determined to remain in the field for as long as possible. When the terrorists start targeting London, he finds himself working with M16 Agent Oliver Archer again.
This book is told from Liam and Oliver’s POV except for the very beginning where we get Jamie and Kyle’s POV for their wedding and the beginning of their honeymoon. I love that we finally got to see Jamie and Kyle get married and have a honeymoon. These have a very intense and steamy relationship and I love seeing them finally get their happy ending.
Now onto Liam and Oliver. If you read Fire in the Heart, you will know that Agent Archer and Liam clearly have a past history. We finally learn the truth about what happened. I liked that Liam was sincere in his apology to Oliver for his past actions and he gots out of his way to make up for it.
I enjoyed Oliver and Liam’s story. There was a lot of tension and hostility in the beginning but they worked through it once they actually started talking. Oliver is just as dedicated to his job as Liam was and I think he is the perfect partner for him. I liked Liam’s team as well and would love to learn more about them now.
Overall, I loved seeing Liam finally fall in love. This was just another wonderful blend of action packed missions against terrorists and steamy and emotional romance. I love this series and really hope she writes more because I am not ready to give these characters up.
Trigger Warnings: on page torture, grief, violence,
I have loved every single one of the books in this series. The world and its characters are so fun! Hailey ranks up there with Charlie Cochet when it comes to camaraderie and banter. From the first chapter of the first book, you immediately feel a connection to Jamie and team, and then later Liam then Oliver when they are introduced.
Thank you Hailey for giving us Liam’s story and putting a pretty bow on this wonderful series. I don’t want to spoil anything; stop reading this review and read the book already!
The heat level is high in every book, but one of the chapters in this is SCORCHING. I love love love that Hailey brings us such in-depth story and high heat. It’s rare to find both in the same story.
This book is not a stand-alone, but hello, the series is fantastic!
4.5 stars…This final book in the Metahumans series (according to the author note) has been a long time coming. If you are a fan of the series and it’s been a while since you read the last book and novella you may want to re-read them before reading this book to completely refresh your mind as to what occurred. It is not completely necessary as the storyline here stands on its own but there are quite a few references to what happened in those books.
This book is primarily about Liam and Oliver but we do finally get Jamie and Kyle’s wedding at the start so we see all our favorite characters again. In addition, Jamie, Kyle and Katie are involved in the main action of the story so we get to see them in action one last time.
The story revolves around the hunt for Carter Bennett, the rogue CIA agent, who it appears has turned up in London looking to sell the illegal Splice lab he has and the Reborn IRA and the Russian Bratva are potential bidders. Jamie and Kyle are in London when all this goes down as they have been invited by Liam’s grandmother, The Queen, to attend Ascot with her.
The story further involves Liam trying to get Oliver’s forgiveness for the callous way he treated him when they were teenagers at Eton and Liam’s actions humiliated Oliver and caused him to lose his social circle. At the beginning Oliver is having none of it so we have an enemies to lovers story on our hands, one of my favorite tropes.
The character development is very well done as we get to know Oliver and really can empathize with his pain at the way he was treated. We can also see the evolution of Liam’s character and know that the man he is today is sincerely sorry for his previous behavior. The story arc moves well. The action is suspenseful and there are several scenes that have you holding your breath and cringing in phantom empathy pain. Turner really does enjoy doing some serious damage to her characters.
The climatic scene is so well written you feel like you are part of the battle and then like you can feel the resulting destruction. I can’t say more without spoilers.
The only negative thing I have to say involves a much too long (for my tastes) scene from Jamie and Kyle’s honeymoon. I don’t feel it adds to the storyline at all, particularly given that this is Liam and Oliver’s story. In addition, it is way too BDSM for my taste, a comment I had made in earlier reviews for the later books in the series. I am not a fan of that genre and Jamie and Kyle’s relationship strayed too much into that genre, particularly with no warnings on the content. Additionally, it’s just not necessary, given the overall theme of the books, and for this book in particular. It really took my focus away from the main story as I kept going back to how much it bothered me. I know that’s a personal preference and there will be plenty of people who will love it. I just feel like it detracted from what it otherwise a fantastic book.
*I voluntarily read an ARC, and this is my objective review *
