“She wasn’t an angel, but she was his angel.”Tomik took Hannah like he had a hundred women before her, like any other collectable that his mesmer abilities let him control utterly and completely. He wanted to dress her in wings, make her crawl to him, do things to her body that were worse than sinful… they were nightmarishly obscene. But Hannah isn’t like any other collectable. She’s the girl he … collectable.
She’s the girl he ran away from, tried to protect… until she called him back.
Now there’s no stopping the darkness inside him, the cravings that demand he keep her all to himself — but that’s against the rules and his mesmer brothers are dangerous. Unpredictable. And how can he keep her safe when all he wants to do is make her scream?
Before love will come pain, blood, and the near destruction of her soul, and his.
“A twisted, upside-down, out-there love story.”
“I could still feel the darkness creeping and crawling through my imagination long after I closed the final page.”
“This is darker than 13 midnights – PITCH BLACK type of dark. There are more bad things than I can even prepare someone for.”
Mesmer is a standalone dark romance and is based in the Dark Hearts trilogy world created by Cari Silverwood, that begins with Wicked Ways.

Oh my lord this book
These 2 ladies and this book omg… explosive. I can’t even begin to describe this book other than it was good so so good. These 2 ladies write some of the dark and dirtiest stories and I’ve loved them all, but this book went above and beyond. I just want to know when’s the next book, because this book talked to my dark side oh so well and it is definitely not for the faint hearted.
Less “Lions and tigers and bears oh my!” More “Mesmers and bottles and hooks, oh my god!”
Between Zombie Robot girls, reboots, resets, glitches, *nasty men*, evil twins and lies this is one truly dark, evil and twisted tale. Hannah most certainly isn’t in Kansas anymore and if she’s in Oz it’s not the one with nice little munchkins, a yellow brick road and Glenda, it’s that scary place with the flying monkeys and evil mind twisting wizards called mesmers.
It almost proved to much for me at first, partly because the start is deliberately disjointed but mainly because I hadn’t pulled my big girl pants up far enough. In fact I had to do that ‘skip to a couple of chapters before the end’ stuff just to assure myself that this book wouldn’t destroy my soul forever. Along with some deep breathing exercises and repeating the mantra “It’s fiction and not real life” because boy this duet’s writing has you there in the midst of the carnage and mayhem feeling every emotion and stab of the needle.
Mesmer is so much darker than The Dark Hearts trilogy and Wolfe , so much bleaker, less hopeful but thankfully not hopeless. It felt as though the authors recognised perfectly when the plot was becoming overwhelming, throwing in the tiniest speck of light to buoy your spirits and keep you afloat in their tumultuous sea of darkness.
Hannah is a collectable, a female susceptible to the powers of a mesmer. Tomik is the mesmer who is currently pulling her strings like the puppet she has become. However the pair have history, unresolved feelings and a bond that keeps drawing Hannah back. Greta (Oh you’ll love Greta! I’m fairly certain she’s the spirit guide of Cari Silverwood herself) thinks Hannah is stupid, Greta wants to destroy Tomik, but Hannah loves him too much to allow that. The only problem is how do you truly know what you want, think and believe when you don’t have full control of your own mind?
If you’ve read any other mesmer books then Tomik, despite being our hero, is one of those really nasty ones. Happy to use and abuse for his own kicks, well that and the fact that he doesn’t have full control of his mesmer side. Oh this leads to some nastiness, it’s also made me wonder if I should get the old rocking horse out of my attic. He has an obsession with needles and making holes in Hannah, actually I think that it’s really the aforementioned author and her current fascination. He has a need to hurt her, whether she’s willing or not. But therein lies the crux of the issue – he can make her like it but then he wants her to still be Hannah.
And that is only just touching on the surface of the depravity contained within this book – I’m not sure I’ll ever look at a shopping trolley/cart in the same way again. I just hope to goodness I’m not putting my fruit and veg into one that’s been used in the ways described in Mesmer . The story is sick, wrong, perverted, deviant, degenerate, debased and immoral, so if you’re looking for light and fluffy you need to step away right now. However if you enjoy falling down the rabbit hole and getting very dirty on the way down, then this is a must read book that needs to go straight to the top of your TBR list – especially as it pays homage to Dr Who.
Ha! Love story that takes you through a vicious, sadistic, violent, immoral, ruthless, savage, brutal, cruel, barbaric trip. But really, it is a love story for the ages, the Dark Ages! Hannah has been taken by her childhood sweetheart who is a Mesmer and nothing will ever be the same. Tomik is her Mesmer friend but he is joined by four other Mesmers that want their fair share of Hannah, an unusual collectable. I refuse to say more about this book, I experienced it and I think you should too, if you’re brave enough. If a DARK READ isn’t your thing, don’t go there! I have read dark themes before but was not prepared for the callous brutality of this sexy love story lol Those words just d
Dark, depraved, delicious romance. Yes, I said romance – if you like your romance on the non-/dub-con side. This collaboration between two people of my favorite authors exceeds the bar and pretty much leaves the bar in a mangled mess as you lose yourself in a gut-clenching storyline that will leave you reminding yourself to breath. I wasn’t able to tear myself from this book once I started – even though I shuddered, shivered, and recoiled in horror at the scenes these author brought to life in my imagination. Fabulous read where I became a collectible to the Mesmer abilities of these authors.
So this story is in the same world as Silverwood’s Dark Hearts, which introduced the readers to Mesmers. I don’t know if I’m shell shocked or what, but this book affected me deeply. It’s very dark, and pushed my reading boundaries. “I can’t believe I’m reading this” kept running through my brain as I compulsively read every chapter. I couldn’t get enough. It was a similar feeling I would get watching a raunchy comedian and laughing…then thinking, should I be laughing at that?
This book definitely elicited a major emotional response from me, and I loved it. The book is written so well that you can’t tell who wrote what. (Except for the suitcase scene, which was clearly a call back to Silverwood’s short story Used) Hannah is a instantly sympathetic character as a collectible…but then we meet Greta and everything changes. The mesmers are frightening and truly evil, but the authors temper their evil with the idea that it is a virus that makes them that way. But they were still super villains. Some of the scenes with them are cringeworthy and horrifying.
I really liked the ending, and for those who need an HEA, don’t worry. There is one, but a bit unconventional. When it comes to Silverwood and Bene, who wants conventional? These two worked hard at creativity and boldness in this writing, making them excellent partners in crime. Perhaps they are exorcizing demons with this book? It doesn’t really matter honestly. It’s such a memorable story that might make you cry. Don’t tell the authors though. They might cackle evilly and plan their next assault on our literary senses
Mesmer was astonishing! A blend of dark situations and these desperate romantic hints that kept me coming back for more and more until the book was gone. The characters were intriguing, with mysterious aspects that I was constantly looking for answers to, and a world which walked alongside our own, just a shade more darkly.
I kept rooting for Hannah, and watching Tomik sink into his nature, then struggle above it, and his Brotherhood… I almost wished I was a Collectable too! I don’t want to give any of the plot away, because this book deserves to be experienced, but I will say it is NOT for the faint of heart. There is such richly detailed darkness in here, that for those who are not accustomed to it, or find that unappealing, you will be troubled by this book. For those of us who like their books to have both light highs and dark lows, then this is not a book t be missed.
And for any who might be turned away by the ‘mind control’ aspect, as I normally am, this book somehow works around the robotic aspect of mind control in such a deft way, you still have such distinct and strong individuals. I always worry mind control will make the events occur too easily, but there was such struggle from both of the main characters that it added to the story rather then became the entire vehicle for it.
OH MY FREAKING GOD!! Dark and Twisted at its best!!!
OMG – WTF did I just read – SO AWESOME!! This story is not for the feint of heart or anyone that has any issues reading seriously depraved, perverted or dark and twisted stories. I freaking loved it but I know that I am a bit twisted in the head and I love reading about that kind of stuff! Did these two amazing authors shock me – ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY!! They went places I am not sure most authors would go. They did things to their characters that I probably wouldn’t live through. Once I started reading, this story reached out and put its claws (or maybe hooks) into me and pulled me in, never letting go.
Tomik and Hannah and everything they go through will forever be etched into my mind. And Greta, she’s my soul sister! I loved everything about her and her snarky attitude. There were many times in the story that I didn’t think anyone was safe and no one would survive. I mean seriously rocking horses, suite cases and shopping carts – who thinks of this stuff!!!
I loved this book because I am a pervert and I love everything dark and depraved. When we say this book is dark – we mean – D-A-R-K! Be prepared to go for one hell of a roller coaster ride into the world of vile, perverted, sick and twisted. So pull up your big girl panties and buckle up cause it’s going to get real bumpy!
Highly recommend for dark and twisted readers.
Did you read the blurb? Because when they say “dark”, they’re not kidding. I think this is the darkest book I have ever read, and it‘s taken me a couple days to collect my thoughts. I am new to Cari Silverwood’s mesmer world. I’ve happily read this book as a standalone. Certain men (mesmers) have the ability to control certain women (known as “collectibles”). There is an inherent sadistic component to mesmers, who also have the ability to erase parts (or all) of a collectible’s memory. We meet Hannah, who has a previous connection with Tomik. He’s not a good guy, but there’s far worse out there, as you’ll see. At this point, I want to stop reading because it is painfully crushing my soul-but the authors promise it will all work out. And it does, in a way that suits the story perfectly. I feel like I’ve walked through a long, cold, dark tunnel filled with beasts and the sun is just now warming my face. Bundle up.
I received a copy of this book. My honest review is voluntarily provided.
I love both Cari Silverwood and Jennifer Bene books, so them writing together is like a dream come true. I can only imagine how they wrote together, but I am pretty sure they dared each other to go darker.
It takes place in The Mesmer world that Cari Silverwood created but it can be enjoyed separately. It is a dark book and bad things happen to innocent people, but they is also light and hope.
Tomkin is an interesting character. He isn’t good, but not all bad either. Cari and Jennifer showed that Tomik was also not in complete control. The memser was. He was a captive in his own way.
Hannah is a lot stronger then she thinks and her love and determination help her pull through.
If you love dark then this is the book for you. Let me tell you I never look at a rocking horse or angel wings the same way again.
Ok, Cari is new to me but, Jennifer is NOT! These two together are a force to be reckoned with. I love, dark. I love depraved. I love angst, nail biting deliciousness. This book is that and more. I am now jumping on the Cari Silverwood bandwagon.
Sweet Holy titfire.
Normally I write a review right after I finish a book while the image is fresh in my mind. However, this book kept me up until almost 6 in the morning and I was delirious, This book plagued my dreams and has been mulling around my head all day until I could finally sit down to write this review. That is both good and bad. I dreamt about rocking horses, spears, and mind control, which if I am being honest here was both titillating and horrifying. Reading about this happening to the characters in the book was one thing, having my mind think I was Hannah while I was sleep… Nope, Nada, NEVER, Hell to the NO, and Now I need therapy STAT. Although to be fair, I might need a hug more than I need therapy now.
This is not a pretty story, and for anyone that has read about the Mesmer world then this says something because HOLY holy hell this is on a level that few can handle. As horrifying as this world is there is just something about it that, for lack of a better word, mesmerizes me. It makes my mind think and panic a little. To discover that this author was bringing this world back and adding one of my other favorite authors that also pushes the limits EVERY time (Reign of Ruin still makes me shudder thinking about it MONTHS later) to the mix had me wanting to do a serious jig.
I never in my wildest dreams thought this would be as well done as it was. Nor did I think they could go any darker. I was wrong. Holy hell was I wrong. I will never look at Rocking Horses the same way. I had a very hard time differentiating who was writing what. (a certain spear was a definite giggle because that was from another favorite character/scene of mine so that was the ONLY time that I knew with absolute certainty who was writing.) *** Updated to add that I was wrong and the author that I THOUGHT wrote this DID NOT write this scene. This just goes to show how amazing these two authors are and how alike they are in regards to their writing and minds. This actually scares me now considering how twisted they both are when it comes to twisted juxtaposed with tantalizing. *** That says something about this collaboration. It was seamless dark and depraved perfection. Numerous times I found myself thinking, “Oh Holy titifire, THEY are taking it THERE.”
I cannot stress enough that this book is Dark. I am not talking about, “Oh look, there are stars dark” but rather this is, ” being trapped in a cave in the middle of the earth where no light source has ever shone before type of dark.”
This is darker than 13 midnights–PITCH BLACK type of dark. There are more triggers than I can even prepare someone for. These authors didn’t just dip their toes into the dark or teeter on dark elements. Oh, no they jumped right in and gave zero pinches of squirrel crap about who they might or might not offend (Looking at the pearl clutchers here) because this WILL offend someone.
These two are driving the bus to hell and are quite okay with that> I am just glad that I discovered them both and ever thankful that I bought the all aboard pass because this debaucherous journey has been so worth it. Read this if pitch black that leaves a smudge on your soul is your thing.
I am really conflicted writing this review, to say this is Dark is a vast understatement. In places it is so vile and terrifying I had to skim it yet I kept on reading and couldn’t put it down and it became normalized almost. I wanted Tomik and Hannah to find a way to be together which seems odd but then it was validated at the end and Hanna’s secret was a complete surprise. If you can overcome the feelings much of this book engenders then you will not be disappointed.
This is a very dark, very deranged and demented story. Hannah has loved Tomik since they were children and now they have found each other but he is now a mesmer and she is a collectible, and Tomik being a mesmer likes playing with her mind. Hannah’s mind (Greta) is talking to her as a real person and I think causing her trouble and helping her think, almost like she has a double personality. It is amazing how Hannah managed to survive all the stuff they did to her. It would break a normal person. I still do not know what a mesmer is or how they become one, but they are extremely mean and controlling and use the collectibles and throw them away. Very sad and glad we have none in real life. The book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Enjoy
Mesmer is a new book co-written by two of most well established names in the dark romance genre; Jennifer Bene and Cari Silverwood. And while it is an exquisite and seductively sexy first co-write, what is more absorbing is that it is also a cautionary tale wrapped in a sinfully dark wrapper. While the sex is everything you could hope for in a dark romance (and then some), there is a subtly hidden message that lies at the core of this story that is intriguing to read and contemplate. The beauty of it is that in the end there is even an HEA, which I absolutely would not have expected given how the novel starts and progresses.
Both authors of this novel come into this story with a well-established body of work, and it is obvious they know how to craft a dark, sexy, and deliciously enticing story. What surprised me was the much deeper meaning and context behind all the good, delicious erotic stuff. The descriptions and internal dialogue that both the main heroine and the anti-hero have were by far some of the best parts to this book, in my opinion. It is those aspects of the novel that tease out the message that the authors appear to want to reader to come away with, even as they beguile you with all of the decadent dub-con and non-con sex. Oh, yes, there is plenty of that, but even *that* plays its part in the telling of Hannah and Tomik’s tale.
This is a review where I will not speak too deeply on the details of the book. To do so would ruin it with spoilers. Suffice to say, this novel is chockablock with more stimulating, depraved, but oh-so-scrumptious sex scenes than you can imagine (and there are going to be a few that will press boundaries and shock even those who are familiar with either author’s prior work). But when you are reading it, listen to the voices. Ponder for a moment the situation’s the characters find themselves in, and where they ultimately end up. And then ask yourself; does absolute power *always* corrupt absolutely, and—despite the allure of the idea—in some situations would being able to do whatever you want necessarily be a good thing in the long run?
This is a dark romance that is going to make you quiver with desire to get to the next debauched sex scene, and will also leave you awake thinking once you’ve set it down about just how much of ‘having a good thing’ is too much.
Oh my where oh where to begin. The minds of these 2 authors is amazing and scary. I have read all of Cari Silverwoods books but have not read Jennifer Benes. From page 1 to the end I could not read fast enough nor turn the pages quickly enough. This book takes place in the same place as Cari Silverwoods Dark Hearts. This story is very, very dark and some of the things that happen to the characters in this book are dark but know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Tomkin is a very interesting character – He seems to be in control of himself and all that he does. But he is not he is also controlled and showing that not only are the other characters controlled by the Mesmer so is he. The things that happen in this story are amazing and dark. It is an amazing journey and a fantastic read.
For those of you who like HEA well guess what there is one. Somewhat out of the norm but never the less there is one. These two authors are amazing and so very talented in their writing. This book kept me on the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to happen next. I highly recommend this book as a MUST READ. Bravo Cari and Jennifer.
There’s a lot of background and insight into how the whole “Mesmer” power works and how it changes over time and throughout the books in this universe. It’s not that they’re just evil (ok, a lot of them are)– there’s something going on that means maybe not all mesmers will end up as monsters. There have been characters in other books who manage to stop themselves from completely going over the edge.
I love how Greta’s character is used in the book. She kept me reading when the story started to get a little rough. She was saying all the things I was mentally screaming at my Kindle.
Mesmers have the unique ability to wield outrageous power and control over susceptible “collectibles”. This warped dominance allows these evil characters to abuse females in totally debased, degenerate, immoral, twisted, debauched, and horrifying ways. They can perceive unusual methods to utilize otherwise normal items such as suitcases, grocery carts and rocking horses in a manner that my mind could not conceive.
Tomik is a Mesmer, Hannah a girl he once loved. While they were still teenagers, he left her to shield her from his power. For some reason, Hannah needs Tomik’s help. He answers her call, but is unable to reconcile his Mesmer powers with the ingenuousness of his beautiful angel. Yet, he desperately desires to satiate his obsession to revel in intense sexual satisfaction while inflicting pain, degradation, and humiliation. He believes he wants to shatter their connection. But, does he really? Their story is addicting, tantalizing and extraordinarily decadent.
If you cannot handle horrific pain, non-consensual situations, revenge, and uniquely evil men satisfying their dirtiest, darkest most perverted urges, this will definitely not be the story for you. If you can, you will be taken on a warped journey that spans agony, torture, anguish, sorrow, acceptance and unconditional love. Once begun, I could not stop reading! Oh, wait, I had to stop occasionally so I could continue breathing!!!
Mesmer is Cari Silverwood’s and co-authored by Jennifer Bene’s latest book to be released. I have read most of Cari Silverwood’s books but I haven’t had the opportunity until now to read anything by Jennifer Bene. But, I will rectify that after reading Mesmer.
This is a VERY dark book so do proceed with caution. Mesmer pulls so many triggers and I felt like I was reading this book with my eyes squinted wondering what was going to happen next.
This is written by Cari Silverwood & Jennifer Bene on steroids!
Mesmer’s can control collectables. Hannah is one. Tomik has to control his Mesmer so as not to push to it too far. And, if he is controlling his Mesmer watch what the twins do because I do believe they are uncontrolled Mesmer’s.
Believe it or not there is romance, it may be dark but there is romance and Tomik loves Hannah that is why he tries to control his Mesmer. There is also an HEA.
“Love comes in many different forms”.
Okay ya’ll this may be the darkest thing that I have read by Cari Silverwood and I think that with Jennifer Bene they have pushed it way over the top! Seriously this book isn’t for everybody. It pushes so many buttons but that is what I like at times. I am going to give this book 4 stars and I now need to read something lighthearted and then I need to investigate and read something by Jennifer Bene. She has my attention now!
Mesmer by Silverwood/Bene
Mesmerizing, dark, devious, delicious, dubious and twisted! In the world of dark romance this is beyond consuming. It is heart palpitating
At times, I lost my breath and thought “no, i didn’t just read that”. Oh, but I did and it is the best dark book I have read this year. It is Life of Anna, Sabrina and Severed all in one delivery. Damn, this goes in my 2nd read pile(which has 4 books in it) that’s how great it is! Absolutely a must read for those who like the dark!
Cari Silverwood created a world filled with Mesmers in the The Dark Hearts series that took me by storm.
Now,together with Jennifer Bene, she added another story that is just as brilliant in it’s darkness, and i loved it!
This couple,Hannah and Tomik, have a shared history. A past that Tomik wants to corrupt. Actually,it’s Hannah he wants to corrupt,to do evil things to. Destroy that innocence. Right? Share the collectable she is with his friends,or does he? They’re so much more evil than he is…..
This was a story that consumed me,dragged me in,pulled me into the darkness and didn’t let go. Even now, when i know the end. It still has me in it’s clutches. And i think i’ll be there for a while….
But i love it!
