Bodyguard. Mercenary. Gun for hire. I didn’t care what you called it, the end result was always the same. You paid me for a job, you got results. The Marines trained me to shoot, but life taught me to aim. Working for the best personal security firm in the business was a stepping stone. Put in my time, build the resume, then move on. I didn’t do attachments, on any level. Until a smoking-hot … didn’t do attachments, on any level.
Until a smoking-hot former one-night stand crossed the street in front of me, holding hands with a kid who was my spitting image. She tried to play it off, deny he was mine. She said she didn’t even remember me, right before she picked her kid up and ran. She thought she’d made a clean escape.
But she was about to find out how merciless a bodyguard could be.

Great book
Loved this intense story with Garrett and Brooke. She’s one tough cookie. He’s “Heat, man, hero, warrior, desire.” A definite page turner, suspenseful, hot! I love all these alpha men, especially during their ops. Twists that you don’t see coming and it’s makes this story an enjoyable wild ride.
Recommend for sure.
I enjoyed this book by Ms Bartel. This was definitely an alpha male read. Between Collins and his friends they were visualized as hunks. Brooke was truly trying to get out of the life Lewis had her in by running from him. I felt sad for her regarding the circumstances that started the down hill trend of her life. Maverick was the best for both Brooke and Collins.
I truly enjoyed the story. Can’t wait to finish another in the series.
Super good read.
If you have a chance to download this book, DON’T pass it up! AWESOME READ!!!
Loved all of the ones in the series I have gotten to so far.
Fun read. Entertaining
LOVED THIS BOOK !!!! Stayed up too late, and rushed home from work to continue the story !
I liked it so much, I bought the entire series!
Collins is a Marine. He is home on a short leave when he meets Brookelyn. Brookelyn is a woman haunted by her past who is running and has no intention of getting close to anyone. They spend a night together and then don’t see each other for three years, when Collins sees her with a child who is his spitting image. But things are not what they seem and though he his beyond angry at her he makes some startling realizations. Will they be able to find a way through the mess that is her life? I really loved this book. I also enjoyed all the cameos from her previous books.
READERS BEWARE: Hot, hot, hot! This book is fire! Boy oh boy does Collins give the other alphas a run for their money! All of these books elicit such an epic volume of emotion it’s mind blowing. Everyone can find a relatable character in these books and I found mine in Brookelyn. Seeing her cope with the things she was going through showed me that it’s possible. The plot is BEAUTIFULLY written and Sybil is an absolute druid of the written art. If you don’t love her work, are you even human?
As always, Sybil Bartel weaves a splendid storyline complete with in-depth emotion and well developed characters. It’s a steamy, emotion-filled read worthy of the holiday season when many of us are stuck indoors by a warm fire!
We are introduced to Collins (a Marine) home from Afganistan for only hours to attend to a family emergency. Exhausted mentally & locked up emotionally, Collins spares a few hours to visit his friend’s bar to talk, drink & maybe pick up a woman for the night. It’s there he meets Brookelyn, timid, haunted & terrified of people: male or female.
Collins finds Brookelyn pulls at him as no other woman has, her beauty yes, but it is more the expression in her eyes that calls to him like a Siren.
Despite her best efforts, she ends up at Collin’s oceanview condo & ends up allowing herself to have a few hours of pleasure for herself with the military male who in spite of his commanding dominance, his massive size & rugged looks makes her feel safe, wanted & treasured.
And Collins a taciturn & an emotional wasteland unaccountably finds himself trying to entice Brookelyn to wait for him for 3 months when his current tour of duty is completed.
But Brookelyn is hiding a dark past that is still grimly part of her present. And terrified it will drag Collins down, she flees the condo before the dawn.
The first half of the book takes place over the course of a few hours, I did think it went on a little longer than I would have preferred but it sets the tone for how impacted Collins is by Brookelyn’s disappearance & why he feels & acts the way he does in the 2nd part of the book & why Brookelyn left the way she did.
However, the action & tension explodes in the 2nd half: Andre, Sawyer, Talon, Dane, as well as Neil (it is funny how Neil scares even Collins) all make appearances to help Collins in his laser focused goal.
But Brookelyn ripped Collins’ heart with her betrayal & her deception & now Collins must decide if he’ll save her, unaware of the hell she’s actually in.
The author does an excellent job with her characters, we get both Collins & Brookelyn’s POV throughout the story & her action & covert mission scenes are some of the best I’ve read.
I was very much interested in both Collins & Brookelyn, rooting for them to overcome their pasts & heartache, to have a HEA together. But first Collins must decide if Brookelyn is worthy to be saved & even Andre Luna admits the enemy they must overcome is beyond Luna & Associates abilities to take down.
A rousing read with an stellar cast.
Holy hotness, she’s done it again.
Sybil Bartel’s, Merciless (The Alpha Bodyguard Series) is everything a reader wants in a book. There’s an alpha af hero, resilient, sassy heroine, jam-packed action scenes, and smokin’ hot sex. Heck, your heartrate will double, possibly triple, in some parts of this well-crafted novel.
Well-crafted.
Yep, those two words are synonymous with Bartel’s work. In fact, they represent what I love most about her writing. Sybil is a master at three-dimensional character building, at slowly teasing out their truth, one multi-layered line of dialogue at a time. It’s also in the way she structures her stories, paces the action, and builds the tension that ensures the reader is in for one hell of a ride when they open the book.
Read it. You can thank me later.
It was an OK book. I read it during the “lockdown”. I wouldn’t buy it again, and haven’t bought any of the other books in the series.
It was a good story line, and I like the characters. However, F bomb was used so often on every page, that it takes away the ease of reading a book. I don’t have an issue with the F word being used in romance books. But this one was truly over done. Every page had the F in during dialog and then character thought/ Sometimes I didn’t even try to keep up with the event being written BC is was just too much trouble. Other times I had to go back a few paragraphs to re-grasp the meaning of events. Like I said a good story line and would have been even better without all the Fi-ing word used. Not my style and I can’t recommend.
Scooped this book up while it was on sale. Brookelyn is tied to a bad and abusive man. She has one night of passion with military man, Garrett, that results in a pregnancy. Years later Brookelyn and Garrett cross paths and he realizes that her son is his child. He then goes on a mission to free them.
This was a fast read. It was okay, sort of unremarkable.
Loved this book. Every woman wants to be loved like Brooke was.
Amazing, gripping, gut wrenching, funny, sweet, sexy, heart warming and so many more things is what this book was. I didn’t want to put it down and I didn’t want it to end. The characters are spectacular and the story so fabulously written. The chemistry between these two shines through on every page they are and add in the little surprise that sweetens the whole deal and oh my, you have something truly special. Along with them are friends from the past and it’s always so dang awesome seeing them come to help, the friendships and commitment to one another to be there for each other. This story is a true test that when you wait, what’s meant to be will find you again and love is forgiving. I loved the book and it’s a must read for sure.
