I’m Merakai. I was born on the Island of Shadows and thought I’d die here, kind of wish I had. The daughter of a naiad and a shadow walker has left me with a unique ability to use any water surface as a portal of escape. I don’t trust anyone. How can I? When I know there’s a price on my head, and a rider ready to collect?Barren, a handsome blood mage I met on the Island, well, I like him, a lot. … I like him, a lot. He looks at me like I’m something special. My father stole his blood and has it hidden away, it’s his ‘ace card’ to save him from a death sentence. Where do the lines of family loyalty and destined love lie?
Ivan Grey, the single most despised person in recent history, is my father. I hate him. I want him dead. I want him to pay the price he’s inflicted on others.
But… he is my father.

What A ride!
Holy crap Batman! Talk about an edge of your seat, action packed book. I don’t think I have any fingernails left. Dzintra Sullivan has delivered another ah-mazing installment to the Halfway House Series and I am now anxiously waiting for Rumor’s book to complete the series.
Readers of Merakai please, please, don’t expect to know what is going to happen. What you think is definitely not what you get.
Well what can I say?……I loved and hated this book …Now dont get me wrong I hated it in a good way…I hated it because it ended…..It made me cry…it broke my heart. In fact those very reasons are also why i loved it.The world is so in depth so rich so full of life that as I read it I can see it playing through my head like a movie. This series has me heart and soul and I cannot wait for the next book,,I am only wishing with all my tattered heart that the people that need to die in the next one do so painfully and horribly. In fact i want them to feel the pain that they caused me and no doubt many other readers and readers to come to feel. If this book was written badly i would feel different BUT because of the story telling, world making, feeling evoking amazing skill of Dzintra this is an amazing read>Right now my heart is with the folks in Havenlea and I feel as if indeed part of my own family has gone> this is one heck of an amazing book
Simply fantastic! This series is terrific and Merakai is sensational…I’m at a loss for words to describe accurately just how good this story is!
Merakai is half naiad and half shadow walker which enables her to transport herself through water. Ryden is a contract paranormal killer and death transporter. Ivan Grey, Merakai’s father, is in custody but still put a contract on his daughter and Ryden is his choice. I don’t want to say too much or it makes gut be too much and give it away.
Warning it is a cliffhanger but even this is executed well.
Once again fantastic humour is in abundance throughout this book, for example when Rumor says to Surat…
“You know my number,” she threw back off-handedly. “One eight hundred kill me softly… press one for full personal service, press two for a just a bad head job…” Surat’s laugh started low and grew into a full belly laugh.
This author has such a great way with words as well as analogies..for example…
He would have more success in inviting Satan to a flower garden tea party…Surat’s thoughts about Rumor.
Or…
The change of subject was as sharp as vintage aged Gouda.
The throwaway lines and banter makes you laugh out loud but there is the serious side, namely the contract on Merakai’s life and everything that happens around it.
Tolerance, understanding, and the general feel of family was the message she conveyed. They were all so different, and for that exact reason, it made them all the same. (Thought by Eloise.) This is one of my favourite quotes from the story and sums up the Halfway House moral code, curtesy of Eloise Mayflower.
I thought carefully and couldn’t find anything this book doesn’t have…romance and love, suspense, humour, lots of emotion including fear and of course paranormal elements.
I totally recommend this book but read the previous five books first for a real treat. I wish I could give it more stars!
Just love the Halfway House Series! I’m totally addicted. This book was full of twists and turns that had my head in a total spin. I laughed, cried and had so my emotions…It was so good!
