Everyone talks to animals. Some do it every day, although very few stop to listen for a reply. Lizbet Wood does, and this is just one of the things that set her apart. She really doesn’t understand how different she is until violence shatters her solitary existence. While Lizbet seeks to understand why mother sought refuge on a deserted island in the Pacific Northwest, she comes face to face … to face with the dangers her mother tried, but failed to escape.
When her mother is gravely injured, Lizbet is forced from the island and thrust into a world even more complex and threatening than she could have ever imagined. A world where the animals have no say…or do they?

This was a book unlike any other I’ve read. I enjoyed it immensely. Lizbeth has a strange gift. Wouldn’t you like to be able to talk to animals or understand what they were thinking?
Page Turner couldn’t put it down
Couldn’t get in to this book
Made me read the rest of the series
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was gripping, adventurous, and had likable/relatable characters. It’s a story about Lizbet Wood, a teenager who grew up on a secluded island without ever watching tv or getting to grow up like a ‘normal’ child would. Her life completely changes when violence finds its way to her island and she’s forced to immerse herself in the real world. As she’s trying to find answers, she meets a boy named Declan. He’s handsome, quirky, and completely infatuated in Lizbet’s own weirdness. Together they try to find happiness and answers they’ve been trying to find their whole lives.
Things I liked: The cute and funny animals (especially the sassy cat), Lizbet and Declan are flawed in their own ways, there’s plenty of mystery, the writing is very good.
Things I disliked: The ending was rushed, there was a lot of build-up for no reason, what happened on the island isn’t what we all thought or expected (in a bad way).
Book two might be interesting…but I feel like it could’ve been wrapped up in one book only and I would have been satisfied.
Who wouldn’t want to talk with animals? This book is about a teenage girl who grew up with just her Mom and the animals she could talk with. She is spunky, smart, and strong. When her life is out of control she relies on her friends. Just be aware this is a series, no cliffhanger but definately unresolved issues.
Really excellent premise & fascinating characters. A word of warning, though: The second book in this series isn’t available from all outlets. I’ve only found it on Kindle, so if you start reading it in iBooks, be prepared to have to switch over for book 2. Still, despite that glitch, it’s a terrific series and imminently readable.
excellent
I loved how real these characters seemed.
Great book about hidden abilities and secrets.
Great easy beach read! Original story and interesting characters.
I loved this book, and I can not wait to read the sequel!! I truly love the storyline, and I would definitely recommend this to others!! I found this book to be witty, inspiring, and original. The main character overcame adversity, and that was inspiring. I also thought that her cat was hilarious!! I also thought that her isolation, and her integration in to society was fascinating. I thought this was very well written. I couldn’t put this book down!!
This book kept me involved with the characters. It was a good read. I loved the main characters ability to understand the animals and speak with them. Definitely a book that young ones could read and enjoy. I didn’t see much offensive language if any. Hope to read her next book soon.
I liked the idea of animals talking not like a human would but talking about the things they are interested in, food, danger, etc.
An interesting book but the ending was confused. There was no explanation for the actions of the antagonist. I wondered if part of the book was missing since it was so unclear. It would have been a great book if the author had dealt with the ending in a way that made sense to the reader. Since part of the book’s focus was on who caused the damage and why he/she did it, it seemed very strange that the reader never got that explained. We find out who, but never why. Or why the person behaved the way he did at the end. It made a potentially great book just okay because the ending ruined the reading experience. The writing was good, the characters interesting, so I would consider reading another book by this author.
This book is especially for animal loved….like me. Good book.
delightful
Fresh premise well developed. Fun to read.
I had some trouble because there were times that things would happen, but it wasn’t clear how the story got to that point and I would go back to reread thinking I missed something. Otherwise, it was good.
I loved this book.. I especially liked when she spoke to the animals. Armed they spoke to her.
