Nick and Hollie are an odd pair. He’s a war vet with his service dog, and she’s tattooed and works at a vets off. They both have had a rough life. But when they uncover a terrorist plot they’ll need all the help they can get.
Easy to read story . The characters all have some complexity. The action and suspense draws you in. Story deals with PTSD and child neglect briefly.
Whole series is addictive
The story pulled me in right away. I enjoyed this book so much I went back to the start of the series to read the rest of them. I finished the first 4 books in 5 days, couldn’t wait to see what was happening next!
I love these characters! Hollie, the goth girl who is Grayce’s office assistant, is in trouble this time. And Nick is the man causing it!
Men Under Fire (Grayce Walters, #3), my seventeenth read from author Jacki Delecki and I have to admit I was only familiar with this author from the Code Breakers series and then her Impossible Mission series before starting this series! I’d gotten this book back in April of 2018 & other books got in the way of my reading it. No matter what era she writes in you can always count on wonderful character development. Delecki has created another series of books that you cannot wait to get to the next one. This one basically retells the story from book 2 from other characters’ points of view. As always I look forward to the next book in this series, they’re that good. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018)
I loved this book, the main characters and the story line. Sometimes I laughed out loud and other times I had tears for the love and devotion one can give for others, yet think so little of herself.
Men Under Fire by Jacki Delecki is the third book in her Grayce Walters series. I hadn’t read the previous two books but I had no problems reading this one and connecting with the characters.
Hollie Thomas is a really strong, independent and street smart young woman. Her past is filled with meth addicted parents, anger and sadness. She now works for Dr. Grayce Walters as her receptionist and feels like she has found a new life and a new family.
Sergeant Nick Welby and his golden lab, Tally, are now home from the war. He and Talley are both suffering from PTSD and struggling to become “normal”. His vet has recommended that Nick take Tally to see Dr. Walters to help her to relax. Although he finds it very unusal, he agrees because he will do anything for Tally. There he meets Hollie and is totally captured by her.
A smooth plot, complex characters, a deranged member of an environmental activist group, bombs, kidnapping and a little romance made for an excellent read. All of the secondary characters were well developed and added some humor to the story. Jacki allowed Hollie and Nick’s relationship to grow slowly as Hollie has trust issues. I appreciated that she took the time to develop the relationship because it allowed me to get to know and understand Hollie much better. It also showcased Nick’s integrity and patience to do what was best for Hollie.
I will definitely be looking for the first two books in the series now as I want to know more about Dr. Walters and her adventures. I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
“Men Under Fire” in the third book in the Grayce Walters Suspense Series. This book covers the story of Grayce Walters assistant Hollie Thomas. Raised in an abusive home, Hollie escaped to the streets as a teen. She has lots of baggage. But her life is transformed when Grayce offers her a job in her veterinarian clinic. But when Sergeant Nick Welby brings his bomb sniffing dog Talley in for treatment, there are immediate sparks flying between him and Hollie. Can Hollie let her guard down to let Nick in? I really enjoyed this book. It has a lot of raw emotion. Both main characters are suffering and need each other. A definite must read.
