This “impossible to put down” #1 New York Times bestseller introduces Amos Decker, a gifted police detective with a perfect memory who must solve a mystery he wishes he could forget: his family’s murder (Washington Post). Amos Decker’s life changed forever–twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to play in … hometown of Burlington ever to play in the NFL. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field forever, and left him with an improbable side effect–he can forget nothing.
The second time was at home nearly two decades later. Now a police detective, Decker returned from a stakeout one evening and entered a nightmare–his wife, young daughter, and brother-in-law had been murdered.
His family destroyed, their killer’s identity as mysterious as the motive behind the crime, and unable to forget a single detail from that horrible night, Decker finds his world collapsing around him. He leaves the police force, loses his home, and winds up on the street, taking piecemeal jobs as a private investigator when he can.
But over a year later, a man turns himself in to the police and confesses to the murders. At the same time a horrific event nearly brings Burlington to its knees, and Decker is called back in to help with this investigation. Decker also seizes his chance to learn what really happened to his family that night. To uncover the stunning truth, he must use his remarkable gifts and confront the burdens that go along with them. He must endure the memories he would much rather forget. And he may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Memory Man will stay with you long after the turn of the final page.

The main character had some very unusual traits, which most people have never heard of. However, I think many readers would find it fascinating, and because of my profession, I know that these traits exist. A real page-turner of a book.
I absolutely love the Amos Decker character, and I can relate with him. I would say this is the best of the Decker books so far, perhaps because his tragedy is still raw.
I had a ten hour flight and bought this book at the airport. It was so good I read it all during the flight; something I don’t normally do, I have since read it again. It is that good, I really love David Baldacci, his characters are so original.
A good read that I didn’t want to finish. I keep up with this author.
The Amos decker series is great.
great series
Fascinating main character who makes great use of his unique yet unwished-for ability. Fast moving, can’t-put-down action. Really well written.
I love this series and am always looking forward to the next book. The main character is haunted by memories he can’t forget. No spoilers here.
This is another very good story from one of the better writers of our day. The character development of even some of the minor players is thorough. That and the compelling story line make this a very enjoyable read.
The first book in the series that gets better and better.
I enjoyed reading this series.
Love the Amos Decker series, starting with Memory Man. As a result of an injury on the gridiron, Decker obtains an eidetic memory. This is a blessing and a curse, but more of a curse to him, because of the losses he sustained in his life. Broken and decaying, he gets a last chance to do some good, and makes the most of it. Despite his pain, he uses his capability for good. Love the concept, the writing, and the ability of Baldacci to make you feel for the character.
I have now read the entire series and they are all excellent! The writing is excellent and the story lines are so unpredictable that you just want to keep reading! In each book there is always something I’m learning about as well as being thoroughly entertained! Last but not at all least, the back story of the main character is amazing and extremely thought provoking! You will love him!
The entire series is a page turner! Love his writing style and character development!
All of his books are great! The characters are, too!
Baldacci never fails to deliver a great novel.
Fast paced, great read.
Great beginning to a series based on the Memory Man – Amos Decker. Each character is finely drawn to belong in the story line. Way more than police procedural due to character depth and sense of place.
The main character is blessed/burdened by having a tremendous memory; so great that he can’t forget anything. If you are a fan of the author, this book will not disappoint and you may find yourself staying up past normal bedtime to finish this page-turner mystery.
I am an avid Baldacci fan, having read everything he has written. However, I couldn’t get into this character.
