This “impossible to put down” #1 New York Times bestseller introduces Amos Decker, a gifted police detective with a perfect memory who must solve a mystery he wishes he could forget: his family’s murder (Washington Post). Amos Decker’s life changed forever–twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to play in … hometown of Burlington ever to play in the NFL. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field forever, and left him with an improbable side effect–he can forget nothing.
The second time was at home nearly two decades later. Now a police detective, Decker returned from a stakeout one evening and entered a nightmare–his wife, young daughter, and brother-in-law had been murdered.
His family destroyed, their killer’s identity as mysterious as the motive behind the crime, and unable to forget a single detail from that horrible night, Decker finds his world collapsing around him. He leaves the police force, loses his home, and winds up on the street, taking piecemeal jobs as a private investigator when he can.
But over a year later, a man turns himself in to the police and confesses to the murders. At the same time a horrific event nearly brings Burlington to its knees, and Decker is called back in to help with this investigation. Decker also seizes his chance to learn what really happened to his family that night. To uncover the stunning truth, he must use his remarkable gifts and confront the burdens that go along with them. He must endure the memories he would much rather forget. And he may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Memory Man will stay with you long after the turn of the final page.

This book (and others in the series) is gripping! Once I pick one up, it’s nearly impossible to put it down. I love the take of a detective that can’t forget anything. The process in which his mind works is fascinating. There is also a lot of action. I didn’t see any of it coming!
Good story.
Very good read
This is the first I have read of David Baldacci. Excellent writer. The plot was fast moving with attention to detail. I’m looking forward to the next one. The audio was a little more expensive than normal but seemed to have two people doing the voices. There was also sound effects.
New type of hero. This is the first of a series featuring this hero and, clearly, the best.
Love all his books
Great read!
You hardly know time is passing as you read. Like so many Baldacci stories – totally well done!
This is a fascinating character. I have continued to follow him.
Love, love the main character. Keep the coffee going for this one. You’ll be losing some sleep.
Amos Decker is a wreck following an accident in which he develops total recall and the death of his family. He was formally a police officer and detective and is trying to solve his family’s murders and gets involved in a school mass shooting tied to those murders. It is captivating and tragic at the same time. Great read!!
I’ve found that this author never disappoints. Thoroughly enjoy everything of his I’ve read.
This has become one of my favorite series with a wonderful leading character.

A Taut Mystery Solved by a Detective with an Unusual Gift/Curse
In a few reviews, I’ve criticized books for portraying memory as if it was video; you find the right episode and memory plays in vivid, accurate detail. For most of us, that’s not the case, not even close. But for Amos Decker, the protagonist of Memory Man, it is. As a result of a …
