This “impossible to put down” #1 New York Times bestseller introduces Amos Decker, a gifted police detective with a perfect memory who must solve a mystery he wishes he could forget: his family’s murder (Washington Post). Amos Decker’s life changed forever–twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to play in … hometown of Burlington ever to play in the NFL. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field forever, and left him with an improbable side effect–he can forget nothing.
The second time was at home nearly two decades later. Now a police detective, Decker returned from a stakeout one evening and entered a nightmare–his wife, young daughter, and brother-in-law had been murdered.
His family destroyed, their killer’s identity as mysterious as the motive behind the crime, and unable to forget a single detail from that horrible night, Decker finds his world collapsing around him. He leaves the police force, loses his home, and winds up on the street, taking piecemeal jobs as a private investigator when he can.
But over a year later, a man turns himself in to the police and confesses to the murders. At the same time a horrific event nearly brings Burlington to its knees, and Decker is called back in to help with this investigation. Decker also seizes his chance to learn what really happened to his family that night. To uncover the stunning truth, he must use his remarkable gifts and confront the burdens that go along with them. He must endure the memories he would much rather forget. And he may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Memory Man will stay with you long after the turn of the final page.

I quickly became obsessed with this book. I downloaded it right before leaving for a business trip, hoping to have something to distract me from the airport drudgery. Boy did it ever work! Layover in Detroit? Why, yes, thank you! If only that pesky business stuff hadn’t gotten in the way, I would have finished the book in record time.

Memory Man is the first book in the Memory Man series by David Baldacci. Amos Decker is the main character. He’s the only person from his town to make it to the NFL, where his career comes to an immediate close on his first play. He’s involved in a head collision which leaves him with the rare ability or curse to never forget anything. He becomes …
I enjoyed the action in the first Amos Decker novel. It’s fast-paced, and I liked the plot twists. Some of the things the killers did were not all that plausible.
You won’t want to put it down. So unique and eye opening. You must read!
The principal character in this book, Amos Decker, will fascinate you before you have finished the book. You will know almost everything he does by the time it is done. He is strange because his memory cannot be erased, and he remembers everything which occurs in his life, including the people, what is said, simply everything. He was a detective, …
A fantastic premise with an imperfect main character who has a particularly useful skill.
My brother gave me this book. I loved it so much I had to get the next three. I’ll get the fifth in the series soon. Two thumbs up!
A GREAT READ ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE READ THIS YEAR
Loved this book; once I read it I had to read the two that followed and cannot wait to read the latest about the “Memory Man.”
Amos Decker never forgets, anything. He got hit in his first NFL game and died twice on the field. When he woke up his brain had rewired itself.
Amos isn’t very likable. He has no social skills, feels no empathy but has an unstoppable brain. He isn’t really smarter than everyone else, he is just able to remember everything in minute detail …
Amos Decker, the memory man, has become one of my favorite characters and I am intent on reading the entire series. This book has enough action for anyone and kept me turning the pages.
I loved this book, all of the characters I like to think it was somewhat unpredictable. I was full of suspense a real page turn. In fact all of David Baldacci’s books are page turners. I can’t get enough of his books. He can’t write them fast enough. Hahaha
Like it says on the cover, this one is “irresistible”. First installment in a series, one I want to continue reading!
The “bad guy” isn’t introduced until quite a ways in to the story, but it really doesn’t matter — you need the background to set everything up. The story has a definite conclusion, not a cliff hanger, but the author leaves us …
Very, very good read!
The tragic, uplifting life of the Memory Man, who can never forget…even the worst moments of his life as he chases the “bad guys” to bring them to justice
The first in the series, this book introduces an unforgettable character. I read anything written by David Baldacci, and this series is no exception.
Great series. Looking forward to seeing more.
Have just started in with the Memory Man series. Looking forward to reading the rest of them…
Amos Decker is one of the most interesting characters in fiction today. His coping with an unwanted ability, and tragic life circumstances to build a new life, with new friends is the real arc of this series from David Baldacci. It has a good set of mysteries to ferret out as well.
Amos Decker, the memory man, was just a normal college football player with a chance at the big times when his life changed forever for the first time. His brief professional career is cut short when he suffers a head injury that leaves him unable to forget.
The second time his life changes, he comes home to find his brother-in-law, wife and …
