I was captivated and enthralled by the magical and memorable novel, “Memory House” by Bette Lee Crosby. Bette Lee Crosby writes such a vivid and descriptive novel with an intriguing cast of characters. The Genres for this Novel are Fiction, Women’s Fiction, Romance and Magical Realism.
The author describes the characters as complex, complicated, and quirky. Some of the characters have special abilities. Ophelia Browne who is ninety years old, lives in an old house filled with memories, and items that seem to have memories .Ophelia has a gift in keeping and getting memories from others, especially through objects. It is Ophelia’s goal to find a successor to be able to hold and keep these memories, when Ophelia is no longer living.
Annie Cross, is heartbroken, and somehow she is drawn to this house of memories. Ophelia seems to realize that Annie also seems to possess this gift. The two form a friendship and Annie learns to garden and use herbs from Ophelia. As Ophelia shares some of her prized possessions and reveals the memories, Annie starts to realize that she is reacting to memories as well. Annie becomes obsessed with a broken bicycle and a ball that is in the house. Annie is on a quest to find out who the bicycle belonged to.
Ophelia starts to worry when some of Annie’s memories seem to be dangerous. I love the interaction between Ophelia and Annie. The “Memory House” is an exceptional entertaining and enjoyable story that I highly recommend.

Memory House – I have read other books by Bette Lee Crosby and they as well were great. Lots of times you read a book and you ask yourself what happened to the characters once the book is finished. Some of the characters from her previous books are brought back in this one. In my opinion this book can be a standalone book also. A beautiful story about the treasures of memories past being shared. This book will grab at your heart and helps you to see how important memories are. Memories must be shared so that they can be carried on for years to come by others. Bette is a great author!! I truly loved this book!!
The Loft – Another great book by Bette Lee Crosby! I finished Memory House, the first book in this series. The journey continued with Annie and Ophelia in The Loft. Annie and Oliver were on their way to starting their honeymoon, Ophelia, who is 90 years of age, had a heart attack while driving to church and goes off the road. Annie and Oliver decided to return to memory House to take care of Ophelia and decided to hire architect Max Martinelli to recreate the loft in a wing on the first floor but, while at the rehab Ophelia makes new friends and decides to move into Baylor Towers. One day on his way home from work Oliver’s car gets hit in the side of his car by a drunk driver and is in a coma but, Annie stays with him at the hospital. Can Annie find the right memory to help bring Oliver out of his coma? I truly loved this book and I highly recommend this book but, you need to read Memory House first.
Inspirational. I loved this and recommended it to several friends. I wish the story had carried on and on. I hated to leave it.
