Agathe von Trapp, the oldest daughter in the Trapp Family Singers, offers readers the real story behind an American classic in her poignant and fascinating autobiography Memories Before and After The Sound of Music. The courageous family and events immortalized in the beloved Broadway musical and hit Hollywood film come vibrantly alive in these pages, and Agathe’s post-Sound of Music life is … Music life is equally compelling.

An interesting true family story following The Sound of Music.
I absolutely LOVED reading the TRUE STORY behind the Von Trapp family singers. I’ll never view the musical the same again. However, it’s one of my favorites; and I can still enjoy it for the movie itself. I would highly recommend this book as I chose to read it aloud to my children. They will thank me when they’re older! 😉
It was eye-opening to finally get the true story of the Von Trapp family that was immortalized in “The Sound of Music”. There were many instances where I was totally disillusioned. I definitely enjoyed reading it as I have always been interested in the family, but it did come across as a little bit dry.
Agatha von Trapp, the oldest of the Trapp family singers tells their real story. While it differs from the movie, The Sound of Music, and she readily tells the differences, her style is delightful as is her story. I have always been a huge fan of the movie and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Agatha. She tells so much about their early life …
I enjoyed Agatha von Trapp’s story of her life and how her family coped with the changes in Europe during WWII. It originally caught my interest as I am a big fan of “The Sound of Music”. Her accountings corrected some of the “creative license” taken by the screenwriters, and followed the families’ activities after the end of the musical play …
After watching the Sound of Music, the movie, for 50 times, it was interesting to learn more about the before and after of the story.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because the author put down the movie “The Sound of Music” every chance she got. However, I do understand that it is her own opinion.
The writing is not the most professional that I have read, but it’s a great insight into the truth about the (Sound of Music) Trapp family. It’s easy to read relatively short. If you are a fan of The Sound of Music I would recommend it.
Informative read surrounding the Vontrap family and what really happened at the time!!
I have watched the original movie countless times as well as many of the live productions on TV. I only wish I could have been able to see the original site in Vermont, their home in the U.S. The story of their escape and their life is inspiring. True patriots! And of course the music is unforgettable!
I enjoyed reading about the real von Trapp family, which is very different than the movie. It gave insight into the times in which they lived and how music was a big part of their lives long before and after World War 2. A good read.
I already did a review
Very good book and very interesting
Informative
Loved the movie but really loved hearing the true story.
For fans of The Sound of Music, this gives the real story, perhaps even better than the play or film
Love anything about the Von Trapp Family and this covered many small intimate happenings. One of my favorite books. Katherine K Reese
Boring
Really enjoyed the “real” story behind the story…what an interesting and amazing family, not to mention talented and one that remains so.
Not really what I expected, this is basically a book of family history, recollected stories, and drawings by Agathe von Trapp (the oldest of the girls – called “Liesl” in the production). It was a little disappointing because I was hoping for more information around events from “The Sound of Music” (which she explains how different the production …
