Who walks around in only a towel, anyway?
A second chance romance for a woman who never got over her first.
We Said Forever
Rock bottom.
They say the only way to go from there is up, but what is “up” when you’re born into someone else’s rock bottom?
At ten, football became my first love. It’s what got me out of the house away from my self-destructive family. My love for football landed me at Las Vegas University with a full ride scholarship, and the orange on my jersey was my favorite color…until my eyes landed on the red dress Fallyn wore the night we met.
At twenty-one, I jumped off the cliff into the unknown the second Fallyn McIntyre danced in my arms at a party. I had the greatest girl in the world and the opportunity to play college ball every Saturday. My rock bottom was looking up, thanks to my two first loves.
Parties, sex, and football—life was perfect. But one drink too many, and my world came crashing down. When I chose pills over my second love, my head told me it was the best decision I ever made. The pills keep me warm and protect me from the distance Fallyn created. Percs don’t judge me. They make me feel alive.
Threes.
They say the best things come in threes, but one leads to a stable future, one is my salvation, and the other drags me to hell—a hell I’d willingly burn in for eternity…if it weren’t for my second love.
Macon
Tossing a middle finger to Macon, Georgia as I made my way to Nashville was always the dream. Sing country music, go on tour, top the charts—with my popularity growing every day, I was on my way.
But then a gust of wind blew up your skirt, and those white cotton panties had me hooked. I didn’t know your name, and you turned down every attempt I tried to throw your way. But I knew you were different, even though you told me I was the same.
“Friends” is what you offered, and I played by your rules, but, Adelaide Hatfield, you have to know, from that day, it was only you.
I just hope I can make you see how much you mean to me before we both drown in the sorrow of what heartbreak can truly be.

This story is beyond amazing,
MORE THAN A MEMORY has it all; estrangement, heartache, mistrust, guilt, regret, kisses, hugs and a speck of light at the end of the darkest of tunnels. Olivia has been holed up in her apartment when her mother forces a roommate upon her. Instead of Emerson, who looked at the apartment, it’s her twin brother Bryson that shows up with duffle bag in hand. With paper thin walls, secrets are exposed. Since I’ve had the gut wrenching heartbreak, I can understand Ollie’s need to stay confined to her apartment. Fortunately for her, Bryson doesn’t give up on being the friend that she needs. This book has all the feels. Way to go Author Marie James!
Every week in my Sunday School class during prayer request, one boy always ask for “family and friends to make good choices”. WE SAID FOREVER is an excellent example of the consequences that can affect not only ourselves, but others too, by the decisions or choices we make. Blaze made a good choice to meet the shy girl in the red dress at a party. Fallyn, against her past experience with college guys, gives Blaze a chance. The choice to send a quick txt, made the difference of being on cloud nine one minute and in the deepest of valleys the next.
I loved this story. I loved both of the main characters, Blaze and Fallyn and also a few of their friends. This story has all the feels; trust issues, love, laughter, tears, and anger. This story has the feel of true life. It’s believable. Someone’s nightmare, someone’s happy ever after.
I have to admit, at 30 percent in, I had absolutely no hopes for an HEA, but in true (Author) Marie James fashion, there turns out to be an amazing story in MACON! Forty years ago, I was Addi; the good girl, virgin, going to church every time the doors were open. Axton in this story is the complete opposite. This was such an enjoyable storyline, because in true life, there is an attraction that can’t be explained. It goes beyond the physical traits or sexual pull. This is as real to life as a story can get and shows that everyone has deep feelings that they hide even from the truest of friends and sometimes from themselves.
If you are looking for fluff, sappy, giggling romance, I can recommend some amazing books, but if you’re wanting a story of what real life is made of, then Macon is your book! Real life takes work, it makes mistakes; it means buckling down and working for what you get, whether it’s into a school, a job or into the heart of your soul mate.
As much as Axton is the guy you love to hate, I was rooting for him. As much as I saw a trouble maker, a player, I’m reminded; “with men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”.
There are some other characters in this story that made it a compelling read; Axton’s best friend Carson, Adelaide’s sisters. THESE are the true friends/family that you want having your back! I loved them and also the additional story within the story!
I’m not in to country music, but how Author James wove music titles within the story, made me want to listen! I truly enjoyed Macon, enough that I’d read it again!
