Kit Alexander, better known as The Wizard of Oz, was an international football star. He may have hit a bad patch there for a while, but he was clawing his way back to the top, right up until an injury benched him. With three weeks to kill and an invitation to a wedding Down Under, Kit’s plans were on hold. He needed to keep his head down and let his body heal before they’d let him back on the … pitch and that’s exactly what he intended to do.
Being invited to the hottest wedding of the season was a dream come true for Charlotte Fox. She’d never left her small town of Oxley Crossing in the twenty-eight years she’d lived there–doctor’s visits and hospital stays didn’t count. Now that she was out on her own for the first time in her life, she was determined to store up enough experiences and memories to last another twenty-eight years.
A chance meeting in a bar late one night brought the two of them together. Kit would be leaving to go back to the UK and his career, and Charlie was only in the city for the wedding and a brief holiday before she had to go back to her life in Oxley Crossing. It was only meant to be a flirtation, a holiday fling, nothing serious. But it’s all fun and games until someone falls in love.

This story commenced by introducing us to a quiet young lady who was very self-effacing. At twenty-eight, she has just experienced her first plane ride, directly into a first time away from her home town. She encounters a worldly-wise gentleman at a wedding and commences a friendship.Through her wonder-filled eyes, he comes to appreciate things he had started to take for granted in his life. The ability for them to continue a relationship seemed very remote, as was their geographical location to one another. In any event, the main female character got called back home due to a medical emergency. Once back home her persona did a complete turnaround and she seemed to become almost lifeless in the role she found herself in with her family. My goodness but her mother, and her father to a lesser degree, were the personification of over-protective parents. There was a history to this behaviour but it was many years ago and not an active factor currently. Additionally, her mother was excessively over-bearing and utilized emotional blackmail in order to have her own way. She, somewhere in there, was a loving mother, I am sure, however, it was very hard not to grit your teeth when she went off on one of her diatribes. Thank God for the main male character! He at least viewed her as an adult and showed compassion to her during troubling times. There were huge hiccoughs throughout their romance. It really was the inner strength and ability to relate to people by the main male character, that paved the way for the main female character to break free of her family dynamics. She then had to realize her own strengths and believe in herself. She did learn to fly, in more ways than one, and morphed into a beautiful butterfly that could spread her wings and absorb more of what the world had to offer.
A lovely romance. An unusual family dynamic revealed. With courage and much unconditional love extended to the main female character by the main male character, these two were successfully able to complete this segment of their journey together. Ah love …

This is the first book in this series that I have read, I found it to have a good storyline and was well written. Kit Alexander who is better known as The Wizard of Oz is an international football star that plays for Twickenham South Football Club meets Charlotte Fox while they are both in Sydney, Australia. I enjoyed reading their story and what they have to got through to get their happy ending. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sweet and charming and just a little crazy-making. Exactly my kind of book. I loved Kit. He had the potential to be a narcissistic jerk, full of his own sense of importance, but instead he’s so very down-to-earth. Charlie spun my head in circles. And for the longest time, I couldn’t decide whether I loved her or not. She’s spent so much of her life sheltered and protected that her wide-eyed wonder at the world was endearing. But the way she gives in to her mother’s and her own fears left me badly wanting to shake some sense into her. The two of them together are a little bit Cinderella and Prince Charming; completely precious and adorable. I look forward to reading everything Bookish.
