Welcome to Willoughby Close… a charming cluster of cozy cottages, each with a story to tell and a happy ending to deliver… intent on giving her the cold shoulder, Abby has trouble fitting in, and her boss, Oliver Venables, is both surprisingly sexy and irritatingly inscrutable.
But miracles can happen in the most unexpected places, and in small, yet wonderful ways. Slowly, Ellie and Abby find themselves making friends and experiencing the everyday magic of Willoughby Close. When Oliver’s nephew, Tobias, befriends Abby, the four of them start to feel like family… and Ellie begins to see the kindness and warmth beneath Oliver’s chilly exterior, which awakens both her longing and fear.
Ellie knows all about disappointment, and the pain of trying too hard for nothing, while Oliver has his own hurts and secrets to deal with. When the past comes rollicking back to remind both of them of their weaknesses and failings, will they be able to overcome their fears and find their own happy ending?
Discover the heartwarming magic of Willoughby Close… with four more stories of hope and happily-ever-afters to look forward to.

You know how you look for a new author and hope you love them and better yet….they are writing a series!! Well, Kate Hewitt entertained me totally with her characters in a little town in England. To be honest, the characters could be from any small town but I just love picturing the English countryside, homes and people.
Ellie is a wonderful mom trying her best to raise her daughter Abby alone and protect her from the mean girls at school. And she ups and moves to start a new job so Abby can attend a different school. From day one, you just feel Ellie pop off the page and her long suffering teen Abby is all full of angst. And then you meet Oliver, the professor that is rather tightly wound and seeming to lack any emotions. Throw in Marmite, the dog that has a flatulence problem and off you go. You’ll meet the Lady Stockely and see her and Abby bond as the very young and old naturally can. And so not hard to feel like Ellie as she tries to befriend the other moms and ends up being picked last as a helper. And romance that is just so funny and down to earth…..no violins, no stud muffins, and plenty of heart.
The writing is terrific, it ends on a high note as more of the people will be in the next book in the series….high five!
This is the beginning of a great series!
Heartwarming and uplifting
As an introvert with a secretive past, Emily enjoyed living in London, where no one paid her any attention and she was basically invisible in a crowd. But when her boss asks her to move to Willoughby Close, in the town of Wychwood-on-Lea, to help his start a charitable foundation, Emily couldn’t say no. Emily’s biggest fear was living in a small town where people would want to get to know. She was afraid what people would think of her if they knew the truth about her past. And that is exactly what happened. In the end, it brought Emily out of her shell. She made friends and even started a romantic relationship with Owen, the local pub owner. Emily had finally fallen in love for the first time in her life. But will love be enough when Emily’s past come back to haunt her and Owen hits rock bottom and shuts out everyone who cares about him?
This was an inspiring story. It goes to show everyone has a past and things they regret or hide. It made me happy to finally see Emily and Owen open up about theirs so they could help each other. I have read all of the Willoughby Close books and enjoyed this one just as much. It is a stand-alone story so you don’t have to read the other books in the series. But once you read one, you’ll want to read them all. The setting is a small English town and the characters are all interesting and inspiring.
Love this series!
Plan on Reading The Entire Series & More Based On This Book… English Cozies Have A Special Place In My Heart.Kate Brings You There..Very Visual To Me
This is another great read that I would recommend. The characters were very down to earth with problems anyone can relate to. This story made you root for both Ellie & Oliver. It was a clean romance with a happy ending.
Very sweet story with realistic characters.
Easy to read and entertaining.
A cute story. Fun to read and a page turner. I enjoyed it.
What I thought would be a fun read, as it has a delightful premise, became a very, very, long and slow burn until the first kiss, around the 70% mark. The endless doubts, assumptions and lack of communication made it even longer. Sticking it out until the end was quite painful, sorry.
Enjoyed the character’s very charming
Wow, this book was nothing like I expected. If you want to know a little about living in England you might fancy this one. It’s sad for us all to look back on choices we made however there are usually good things that come from those choices including lessons learned. This book is definitely a page turner and one you will be glad you took the time to read.
Love this author
I enjoyed the story and the characters. I don’t like reviews that give all the details so if you’re looking for a mix of happy, not so happy, believable characters, beautiful scenery and entertainment this is a book for that. Good mother/daughter relationship too.
Down on her luck single mom takes control of her life and finds love. Setting is beautiful!
Really nice read. Feel good stories. More like this please.
Loved it
I didn’t think it was up to the author’s previous novels from Harlequin
Loved it, couldn’t stop at this one, had to buy the rest Willoughby Close books to find out about the characters I fell in love with.
Was not impressed.Didn’t even finish it.
