I loved this story – it was so romantic & tender with some spice thrown in.
Our hero, Jonas Bacon Braithwaite comes back to his childhood home after 10 yrs. at sea to make amends with his grandfather. He plans to stay a short visiting & then heading back out to sea.
Our heroine, Livvy Halsey goes against society’s rules – opinionated, doing antiquity studies & work, dressing in breeches. She sneaks in to Jonas’ bedroom to take her father’s watch that he lost to Jonas in a card game. He catches her & doesn’t recognize the female dressed in men’s clothing – then the big reveal & he discovers his childhood friend all grown up & beautiful. They soon realize they were meant to be more than friends but a lot of things happen (even in this short story) but will they find a HEA or will Jonas go back to the sea & travels? I highly recommend this book & the series.
Loved it!
Meet A Rogue At Midnight by Gina Conkle is a fairly short historical romance, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Conkle has delivered a well-written book. Jonas is visiting his grandfather. Olivia is trying to do her father’s work before everyone knows how sick he is. Their story is loaded with drama, humor and sexy bits. I enjoyed reading Meet A Rogue At Midnight and look forward to reading more from Gina Conkle in the future. Meet A Rogue At Midnight is book 4 of the Midnight Meetings Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I love the cover! It is gorgeous! I enjoyed the story too. I am a sucker for love stories about childhood friends. I enjoyed the writing and characters and for the most part this story flowed nicely. It kept my attention and wasn’t predictable. Overall a great story.
I thought this was such a delightful book and I loved Jonas and Livvy’s story. They are so perfect for each other but it’s something they won’t admit at first!! I’ve always enjoyed the friends to lovers trope and this author does it well.
This was an excellent story. Keep me engrossed the entire time.

I’ll admit, when I was asked to review this title, I went into it blind. Really all I knew was that it was a historical romance and I’m always game for a historical read. The book is a novella in the Midnight Meetings series and I’ve not read the prior books. And it completely stood on its own. I didn’t feel like I was missing any information.
Jonas and Livvy were childhood friends. Livvy had a crush on Jonas all those years ago and was heartbroken when he left town. Now he’s back and they’re getting reacquainted. Since this is a romance, we can be pretty sure there’s going to be a happily ever after. But it’s the journey to that point that is what matters.
Livvy was a bit of a bluestocking, but had an adventurous streak. I liked that she was devoted to her family, but also was willing to reach out and grab what she wanted — Jonas. Jonas on the other hand was a little broken. He had a rough childhood, always on the outside looking in and in a way, bullied. He ran away to make his way in the world. He has returned home and is just drawn towards Livvy. But there’s this restlessness in him.
I liked both characters separately. And I liked them together. I enjoyed their interactions and the dance they engaged in. I was routing for them as they had to deal with misunderstandings and road blocks thrown in their path.
While it was a short read, I don’t feel like I was short changed. The characters were developed and the plot engaging. There was enough back story and there was enough romance to make me happy.
This was my first book by Gina Conkle, but now I’m going to have to go find her backlist because I’m a new fan. If you enjoy historicals and friends to lovers themes, you might want to try out this book.
Never has a book hooked me so deeply in the first two paragraphs! Jonas and Livvy were an entertaining story. Enjoy that first page!
This story was not the usual romance as neither party was nobility. Livvy was an fun character who was involvd in all kinds of things. Jonas was also a good character. The two were friends previously and they develop a new relationship. This story was a fun read that brought different feelings out. At one point I wasn’t sure if I liked Jonas but as the story progressed I did enjoy him. An HEA made this a fun read.
Enjoyable!
Gina Conkle is a new author for me and I really enjoyed this story even thought it is the 4th in the series, but a 1st for me.
I didn’t realize that the book was coming to an end and when it did I was a bit disappointed that it had because the story was really sweet and held my attention and I was enjoying it so much.
The main characters are well written, the scenes flow nicely, the theme is good and so I must recommend this as a good read.
This is a delightful story of two people who cared for each other as childhood friends, are separated for ten years, and meet again. Olivia and Jonas are village neighbors. Jonas and his brother, were born out of wedlock, raised by his Grandfather and mother, and Livvy is one of two daughters of a respected antiquities expert and his wife. They meet again as Jonas is home for a short visit and Livvy is attempting to solve a number of problems faced by her family.
The question is- will the two realize that their friendship is an enduring love for each other or will they move on and let it become no more than a memory?
The plot has so much going for it- the characters are lovely and well written, there are moments of humor, melancholy, and longing- and heat- plenty of heat!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to readers who enjoy romance novels that leave them smiling and feeling wistful – this one did just that for me.
4.5 STARS
Our H is a lost soul and it takes the forthrightness of our h to bring him back to what is important – family.
This doesn’t end in a cliffhanger, but several things I wanted more answers. I don’t want to give spoiler’s so I’ll stop there.
We have two friends who meet up after 10 years. The h has always felt more for the H. He saw her as a 14 year old friend he left behind. Our h is talented and is trying to help her family out since her dad can’t. There is some conflict near the end but is resolved quickly.
Romance builds slowly for the H. There is lovemaking only once outside of marriage, heat level 3 out of 5 if that.
I enjoyed that this story was about common working people and Society. It was refreshing seeing how they tried to make a living with their brain and hands.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and a tad of spice. A Epilogue would have been great. (ljb)
Gina always does such a good job developing her characters. Some you hate and some you love but always entertaining and satisfying when the last page is read.
I love the two main characters in the book! So much chemisty… and such a terrific couple. They truly are meant for each other. Love it… 🙂
I loved it, very sexy and erotic
Meet a Rogue at Midnight is the 4th book in the Midnight Meetings series. It’s a stand alone novella that doesn’t have to be read in order, has some conflict, a HEA and no cliffhanger. This short story can be read in a few hours and it’s a quite enjoyable friends to lovers tale back in the regency days.
