Rakes make the worst husbands… that to involve herself with such a man would only lead to heartache.
When the Duke of Longley asked him to help right a wrong, Rex agreed without question. He wasn’t like most lords, having grown up as a street urchin in London’s notorious Docklands. He talked best with his fists. Nor was he afraid when he was wounded. Somehow, Rex had always assumed his end would be as violent as his beginning. What he didn’t expect was for a beautiful angel with the gentlest touch he’s ever known to nurse him back to health. If only he were the type of man who could be a good husband to Lady Camille.
The more time Rex spends with Camille, however, the harder it is to deny his feelings. Can they put their pasts aside? Rakes, after all, make the BEST husbands.
This is a standalone romance but is part of a five book series with a prologue:
How to Reform a Rake
Don’t Tell a Duke You Love Him
Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs
Never Trust an Errant Earl
Never Kiss an Earl at Midnight
Make a Viscount Beg
more
This series is just magical and makes me smile and laugh when it comes to what the men call the curse. These two are a perfect match and you know it from the moment they meet. Love hit them hard and fast and that’s what protected her from evil. I was shocked by how far her mother would go to get what she wants. But the scenes at the party were amazing!
Camille put on a strong front for her sister, but she feared she would pick another horrible man. I loved her from the start, but when she told Chase what she would have done to him, she became a favorite. She wasn’t going to do what her mother wanted no matter what.
Rex knew his heart was lost the moment he saw her. Even stuck in bed injured he could charm anyone. I loved how he didn’t bat an eye at going after Michael and was going to make him pay one way or another.
The ending with the gypsy was amazing and I can’t wait to see what happens next after that.

Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs is engrossing from the first page. The dialogue, characters, and their circumstances are interesting and engaging. I am enjoying this series which is based around five friends, who are all Rakes, five sisters, a bet, and a gypsy. You really need to read How to Reform a Rake first. It’s a very short prologue introduction to the series (it’s FREE). I also recommend that you read book 1, Don’t Tell a Duke You Love Him to get the full effect of the series. Max and Lily from that story are a big part of this story too. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series and seeing how each of Ducat sisters handle their Rakes and how the Rakes fall for their Ducat sister. Such a fun series.
I just loved reading Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs! The How to Reform a Rake series is honestly, I think, my favorite series that I have read from Author Tammy Andresen and that is saying a lot because I have enjoyed all of her books. Rex Baluster’s introduction to Lady Camille Ducat was quite unique and not one that he would actually remember because he was being carried in after a serious wounding. When his friend, Duke of Longley, asked Rex to help him take revenge on a character who had wronged his wife, Rex was of course only too happy to help. He had no issues putting himself in danger but no one had expected that their mark would have been carrying a gun.
With Rex wounded, Camille felt that it was her poor choices that had led to his confinement and was determined to “right a wrong” by helping him recover. What Camille was ignorant to was the fact that the man she was doting on had a bet running with his friends about getting a kiss from her, oh yeah, and that there was also a gypsy who had insinuated that there was more to develop between her and Rex. As Rex recovers and Camille gets to know him better, they find that with pretenses aside they genuinely like each other but when the truth comes out and Rex’s insecurities rise to the surface their hearts desires will come into conflict with what they expected for their future.
Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs was such a delightful story of two charming characters who both had their emotional scars from a life that hadn’t turned out as they had hoped for. Their love story was such a treat to read and romantic in its own alpha male kind of way. The Ducat’s matriarch made another appearance and was so completely despicable that I don’t see how my feelings on her character could ever change. She is truly loathsome! Overall, all of the characters in Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs were unique, interesting, and such fun to get to know better. I am loving this series so much and I am absolutely looking forward to the next installment!
This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Aurora Publicity. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
Love this new series but no surprise because Tammy is one of my favorite authors. Plus, don’t we all love to see how to reform a rake? They do make the best husbands, or so I’m told!! The five heroes in this collection are all drawn together by a gypsy and some tarot cards she dealt to each of them with a prophecy of what would was to come.
Raised in one of London’s worst areas, Lord Reginald, the Marquess of Highwater, had only by chance inherited his title, but at over six feet and very muscular, he could fight with the best of them. His friend Max needed him to help severely injure a man that had dared to try to take advantage of his wife. But he ended up getting shot and Max took him to his home to heal where is wife’s sister Camille lived with them. Camille was determined to help him get well.
Not to give anything else away, this is such a charming story with characters you cannot help feel sympathy for the struggles they have endured. But happiness may come unexpectedly when Camille meddles in the Marquess’s affairs! Be still my heart.
This was such a fun and entertaining “feel good” story. Rex Baluster, Marquess of Highwater was not like the lords he now called friends – he was orphaned at a young age, ran away from the orphanage when he was 13 and learned to take care of himself with his fists on the dangerous streets of London’s Docklands. Because of several deaths in the family, Rex was now a marquess and though thankful to be off the streets; he swore never to love again because everyone leaves you and became a renown rake. When his friend, the Duke of Longley, asked him for help in righting a wrong done to a lady, Rex agreed without hesitation. Things went downhill from there as the man they were after pulled a gun and shot Rex in the gut and the Duke took him to his home.
Lady Camille Ducat is staying with the Duke & his wife (her sister) after recently breaking an engagement with a rake who tried to seduce her sister. Her Mother removed her from their family home because of the scandal to her other 3 sisters. When they bring Rex to the house and near death, Lady Camille doesn’t hesitate to help and insists on sitting with him after the doctor leaves – after all her reputation is already ruined after breaking the engagement with the Viscount.
Camille finds herself quite taken with Rex but knows she can’t get involved with another rake and face heartbreak again. Rex remembers waking up a hearing someone call her name “Camille” but all he saw was his Angel.
She nurses him back to health and the more time they spend together the harder it becomes for either of them to deny their feelings – but he knows he could never be a good husband to her and she knows not to lose her heart again. Can they find a way past the lies, wagers, hurts? I loved Camille’s sisters and Rex titled friends revisiting in this Book 2. I highly recommend this read – you will enjoy the ride!
I do think I loved this second book more than the first.
I was eager since I read the first chapter in the first book to read Camille and Rex story.
Because of a broken engagement and her meddling in her sister’s live story, Camille was cast out by her mother, she now resides with at her sister’s husband home, this is how she met Rex, the man who drew her name during their bet with the gipsy.
Rex was wounded while helping his friend Max, Lily’s husband, Camille’s sister, to extract revenge from the man who caused so much pain, her ex-fiancé.
It is a quick short read about two broken peoples, she is afraid to always make wrong choices that only bring hurt while he fears to be again left behind.
It was their story to get to accept some others can care for them despite their flaws and see them as worth everything.
Camille can’t stop to take care of others when Rex is running away, scared to be hurt again.
Now I wonder which sister’s story it will, I do suppose Cristina but the first chapter offered to read is about Victoria.
Some people just cannot help themselves and Camille Ducat is one of them. When Rex Baluster is carried bleeding into her brother-in-law’s house, she takes it upon herself to tend to his wounds until such time as the doctor can get there. Camille doesn’t know about the bet taken with the gypsy woman and walks straight into a fateful encounter with Rex. The plot, whilst somewhat suspenseful has all the makings of a good Regency romance, including a rogue who finds himself well on the way to reforming after meeting his Angel. The story is a standalone and has romance, humour and the promise of things to come. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I am so loving this series. Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs by Tammy Andresen is book 2 in the How to Reform a Rake series. I love the creativeness of this series as it all revolves around a gypsy and a bet. This may be my favorite series of all of Tammy’s books. I am truly enjoying it and can’t wait for book 3. Though it is in a series it can e read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read book 1, Don’t Tell The Duke You Love Him to understand the full story. Such delightful characters and it has a true feel for the regency era. This story has a bet, a shooting, recovery, past secrets, kindness, a cruel mother, loving sisters, comfort, an injury, true friends, rakes, attempted rape, rescue and love. I highly recommend this book as you won’t be disappointed!
***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.
Meddle In A Marquess’s Affairs by Tammy Andresen is an awesome historical romance. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has provided readers with a well-written book. The characters are lovable and a great fit for this story. Rex agrees to help his friend Max deliver a message and ends up shot for his trouble. Camille broke her engagement and was kicked out of her home when her fiance tried to force his attentions on her sister. Rex and Camille’s story is full of drama, humor, spice and a little bit of action. I enjoyed reading Meddle In A Marquess’s Affairs and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. Meddle In A Marquess’s Affairs is book 2 of the How To Reform A Rake Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Five noblemen who are all rakes & rogues, five sisters & a bet made at Christmas witnessed by Vadoma a gypsy who gave each lord a tarot card.
Rex Baluster, the Marquess of Highwater spent three years on the streets on London after escaping the orphanage he was sent to when his parents died. He finds himself elevated to the aristocracy when his uncles die. When Max the Duke of Longley asks him to help right a wrong, Rex agreed without question. He talks best with his fists but whilst chasing their quarry Rex is shot. Somehow, Rex had always assumed his end would be as violent as his beginning. He’s taken to Max’s home & who should be there but Lady Camille Ducat, the chameleon of his tarot card. What he didn’t expect was for a beautiful angel with the gentlest touch he’s ever known to nurse him back to health.
Another easy reading, captivating charming read. Both Rex & Camille feel they are not worthy, he because of his upbringing & her as she’s ruined after breaking off her engagement. However they are both immediately attracted to each other & grow close as she nurses him back to health. The pace is good & I read it in a sitting. The chance meeting between other friends & sisters had me smiling & I look forward to the rest of the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
