Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life—steady boyfriend, close family—who has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex–Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge life—big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel—and now he’s pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.
Will is acerbic, moody, bossy—but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.
A Love Story for this generation and perfect for fans of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn’t have less in common—a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?

Truly entertaining..but recommended only for those who believe in the power of love and want to experience an epic love story which even death couldn’t end.
This book broke my heart and healed it at the same time.
I never quite know how to ‘file’ Jojo Moyes. Her stories paddle into deeper waters than Adele Parks and Helen Fielding, but never dive as far into the cold murk of Lionel Shriver or Helen Fitzgerald. Dark chick-lit? Chilli ice-cream?
Me Before You tackles a tough theme with a light touch. An unambitious waitress gets a job caring for a quadriplegic young man and they change each other’s lives. Not in a mawkish, pink-glittery kind of way, but via a series of awkward, painful lessons. Lou Clark’s comfortable if unexciting sense of self is shocked out of complacency by a man who is used to excitement. Now he’s dependent.
But he still has the right to decide.
The book is an absorbing, thoughtful read, which made me stop and consider rights of mind and body. The sudden switching to other perspectives in the second half I found distracting, but Moyes avoids a twee resolution, instead evoking a desperately tragic (in the classical sense) finale.
Yes, I cried. But I also thought.
The book was well written but the ending was terrible.
Great book. Enjoyed the story but, of course, there is no happy ending. Nevertheless, you can’t put the book down!!!
Enjoyed it
Best book I have read in years. Read the book; don’t go to movie.
I am probably late in reading this book but I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of this story. I could live without seeing the movie as the book was so good. So much to think about. I would like to read After You.
This story is insightful and unexpectedly romantic. I loved how each character discovered something new about themselves in relations to others. The romance that evolves is beautiful and one only found once in a lifetime.
Looked forward to reading this every time I picked up this book. Very well written. Stayed with me even after I finished it.
It was a lot Nicolas Sparks, nothing like The Ship of Brides.
Get a box of Kleenex.
Makes you think to the end. Heart wrenching and heartwarming. No good way to end this one!
Pedictable but great characters.
This is a great first book in a series with the same main character. Well worth the read. Love the follow-ups too.
I cried. Hard.
I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading Me Before you, but I was hooked by the end of the prologue, and I had to know more.
The characters were vibrant, spontaneous, and the twists and turns of the plot made for compelling reading. With some hard topics and dilemmas set before Louisa, Will, and his family it felt just as difficult for the reader to confront these life changing events. I felt their pain. I laughed at the awkward predicaments that Louisa often found herself in. I cried. And I cried some more. And ultimately I wanted the best for characters I’d grown to love. Will’s mother in particular really struck a chord with me.
I could not put this book down, and I read all three books in the series within a week!
If you are after your new favourite series, Me Before You is a must read!
You came to love the characters as you read the story.
Do you believe in the right to die with dignity. If not, this at times, very joyful tear jerker, might cause you to ponder anew.
Loved it!
