Jojo Moyes has written the perfect modern love story. You will be astonished at what you feel, and what you hope for when you are forced to face the possibility of your own dreams. It’s that good. Read it now.
A hilarious, heartbreaking, riveting novel . . . I will stake my reputation on this book.
I am currently reading Me Before You and am thoroughly enjoying it! Please no spoilers!
I generally stay away from romance novels, but a friend suggested I read this book. I’m glad I did.
Louisa Clark is just other young woman who desperately needs a job. She is chatty and quite a ray of sunshine, especially when compared to Will, who is usually in a sour mood. I laughed at Louisa’s wardrobe choices and could picture the mismatched outfits in my head. Her sunny demeanor made me smile.
Will Traynor once owned the world and lived the life of a wealthy young man; into extreme sports and an adrenaline junkie who also happens to be at the top of his game, career wise. When a tragic accident changes his life and leaves him bound to a wheelchair, he becomes a moody, acerbic, hopeless man.
Louisa is employed by Will’s family to provide companionship. Never have two more disparate people been brought together by circumstance. At the center of the novel is the debate regarding assisted suicide. Readers will find themselves questioning the ethics regarding whether a person has the right to choose to end their life through doctor-assisted suicide.
Reading “Me Before You” opens your eyes to just how precious and tenuous our lives are. One second can change a life forever. I won’t give away the ending, but will warn you to have your tissues ready. I was laughing out loud one minute and sobbing like a child the next.
I finished two books this weekend! The Grace of Kings and Me Before You.
The Grace of Kings has excellent world-building in a unique epic fantasy setting, as well as beautiful writing, but I had a hard time connecting with any of the (numerous) characters, which left me feeling mostly ambivalent at the end. Ken Lui has some really insightful observations on power, ambition, fate, and human-nature, but they were often a bit spoon-fed. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but I probably won’t read the others in the series.
Me Before You was just as good as everyone has been saying! It was a really beautiful story (definitely made me cry), and also a fairly quick read. I’m sure the movie will be a tear-jerker too, but I think the story will translate really well on screen.
Moving, thought-provoking, entertaining, and the beginning of a wonderful 3-book series! Just finished Book 3 (Still Me), maybe my favorite of all.
I avoided this book for years because of the subject. My mother has a spinal cord injury and is confined to a wheelchair. However, I’m a huge Jojo Moyes fan, so finally decided to do it. I loved this book. So realistic about what injured people go through. I loved the characters and cried like a baby through much of it. Beautiful and haunting book.
Love, love, love this book. It made my pre-order list for this author. It is the beginning of so far a 3 book series. I am hoping for a number 4. Louisa Clark the protagonist is quirky and oh so lovable. What she goes through will make you laugh and cry.
I’m rarely a cryer, but this book came pretty close to making me one. Moyes created a love story that truly moved me and made me a fan of her works.
I am not one to start reading romance novels, but I’m happy I decided to give this book a try! It was just amazing! I read it in 3 days! It’s funny, emotional, sweet, and memorable 🙂 I would read it again, to be honest. It’s an outstanding book!! 🙂
Since basically everyone is reading Me Before You right now, so did I. It was good! It’s very compulsive reading – you can get through it in a day or two – and manages to feel breezy while dealing with some very serious subjects. I was reluctant to read it for a long time because I thought it might be heavy or emotionally manipulative, but it wasn’t at all – I’d rec for fans of Liane Moriarty (and like Moriarty, it was also quite funny).
Just started reading Me Before You last night! I love that feeling when you read the first couple chapters of a book and know you’re going to love it. cc @merrycoin @brianna
Read this over the weekend after seeing the trailer for the upcoming movie on the BookBub Blog (https://media.bookbub.com/blog/2016/02/03/me-before-you-movie-trailer/). Easy read that’s not as manipulative as it could have been (which is basically a ringing endorsement from me on books of this ilk).
I love how these characters transform into better human beings simply through the power of their relationship. She becomes the caretaker for a disabled man and they’re diverging personalities sets the stage for struggle and growth. Each one prospers from the other despite their huge differences.
while dealing with a controversial topic such as assisted suicide the story was carefully crafted and i felt dealt with it in such a caring witty manner that it touched me deeply. the sequels were not as compelling but finished off with where all characters found themselves after the fact.
I loved this book! This book made me laugh, cry and laugh all over again. Jojo moyes really knew what she was doing when she wrote this book. I was able to read this in 3 days and that’s saying something when you have a toddler at home running around at home and you hardly have time to read. I loved that the characters were so realistic and relatable.
Well, I know I’m not alone but this book blew me out of the water. I read it a while back, then watched the movie, and while the movie was good, it missed a lot of the detail of caring for a disabled person. Great characters, great (though tearful) ending. If you love a book with a little humor, lots of great moments, and something that fires up the emotions, this is the one.
This book was fabulous!! It made me cry and I thought about it for weeks afterward!
I was a little late to the party on this one, and it’s so amazing! Jojo writes her characters with such flair, sympathy and tenderness. They are very human. I recommend reading this one, or revisiting it, and get drawn into a beautiful story. Warning – tissues are essential
Get out the tissues and prepare to ugly-cry. I adored this story of unexpected love. It will stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
