What can I say expect that I really like this series. I have been reading each character’s book in the Mayhem saga and this story belongs to Diggs. He is so full of angst due to the past assignment, that he is just feeling too much misplaced guilt over. While he is monitoring the compound’s surveillance, he sees a man beating a dog with a bat. He isn’t supposed to leave the compound but he will not sit by and watch animal cruelty without stepping in. This leads him to meeting Audra because this was her deceased brother’s service partner and the man beating Trigger is her estranged father. This chance encounter becomes everything Audra needs in her life to help her discover what happened to her brother in the service. She suspects he was murdered by his commanding officer and if she will just let Diggs into her life, he can provide the backup that she desperately needs but doesn’t want to accept. This is where I stop my review so as not to give away too much of their story and ruin the reading experience. I will say that this book is not a stand alone nor is it a cliffhanger but part of an ongoing series whose outcome appears to be a few books away. Start at the beginning to really enjoy Mahhem’s Hero to the fullest.
REVIEW: 3.75 stars–MAYHEM’S HERO is the third full-length instalment in Lindsay Cross’ contemporary, adult OPERATION MAYHEM romantic suspense sci-fi series focusing on an elite group of genetically enhanced super soldiers. This is Audra Wade, and former Special Forces ordinance officer Diggs’ story line
SOME BACKGROUND: A secret military experiment known as Project Mayhem, headed by Jack Mankel, General Rainier and Dr. Winters, hoping to create a super soldier has left several victims in its’ wake. US military Captain T. K. Reaper’s team of former Special Forces soldiers ‘volunteered’ unaware of what it was they had volunteered for or why. Hoping to avenge the death of a fellow soldier, Reaper frees his teammates (Mercy and Mayhem .5) only to discover the tests are continuing using a young woman as the source of the drug. Operation Mayhem are their stories.
Told from several third person perspectives including Audra and Diggs MAYHEM’S HERO follows in the wake of Audra Wade’s brother Jeremy’s death while on assignment in the Middle East. A cryptic message, and the beating of her brother’s army issued K-9 bomb sniffing dog Trigger finds Audra facing her future in the guise of former Special Ops soldier Diggs, a man who struggles with the guilt and grief of losing a man he came to call brother. But a suspicious Audra goes on the run only to find herself the target of a unknown assailant who believes Audra knows more than what she is saying. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Audra and Diggs, and the potential fall-out as Diggs is unable to let go of the guilt that continues to eat at his days and nights.
Former ordinance officer Diggs struggles with the memories of what happened and why. Unable to save the life of a fellow soldier, Diggs battles the daily shame and survivor’s remorse of leaving a comrade behind. Audra Wade suspects her brother’s death was no accident, and his cryptic message reveals more than anyone could have imagined but Audra’s life will hang in the balance when she becomes a victim of the people her brother was desperate to take down.
The relationship between Audra and Diggs, like in all of the previous instalments is one of immediate attraction; an insta-lust to love romance that goes from zero to sixty in a matter of minutes to hours. Neither injuries nor illness stop this group of warriors and the women they love from professing their love through sexual acts meant to comfort and appease-even near death experience result in a need to make love 😉 . The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Once again, most of the previous story line characters play secondary and supporting roles: Reaper and Caroline (Mayhems Warrior #1); Hicks and Whitney (Mayhem’s Desire #2), Dr. Melissa Averton; as well as teammates Juarez, King and an injured Quantum. The return of General Rainier brings with it a surprise for the Operation Mayhem survivors.
MAYHEM’S HERO is a story of betrayal, vengeance, family and love. If you are a fan of Christine Feehan’s GhostWalker series you will notice some similarities with the enhanced soldiers, and the man who is desperate for their return. The premise is entertaining and intriguing; the characters are strong and dynamic; the romance is energetic and hot.
This fabulous book is third in the Operation Mayhem series and it features Diggs and Audra. He’s always lived with a sense of inadequacy. Youngest and less accomplished, or so they were led to believe, than his six brothers. Less talent than the other members on his team. My heart broke for him because none of it was true. Audra only wanted to figure out and bring to justice her brothers killer. She’s feisty and perfect for Diggs. I wasn’t sure how the Trigger situation was going to work out. It looks promising but I guess we’ll see in future books.
Another fantastic story line with well developed characters. The Quantum thread has me on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it unfolds. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book.
I loved this series so much and I was so interested to read Diggs’ story and it was a very interesting one. I felt so bad for him and the guilt he carried around over the participation in Project Mayhem when it came to the other members of his team he felt immense guilt and gosh it hit me so much in the feels. I loved how he was willing to risk everything to protect the service dog Trigger from being attacked. I really loved that we saw a more human side of them especially because they are super soldiers.
Audra bless her I felt so bad for her loosing her brother and then the fear of loosing her brother’s service dog to her abusive father. Then fearing the military, she was so untrusting but I could totally see why throughout this novel. I loved the connection she had with the dog.
Audra and Diggs building their relationship it was so cute and she knew she needed him to save the dog. Although their connection was good and I liked how their relationship builds over Trigger it was sweet.
Audra did make some stupid decisions though but I don’t want to say what because of spoilers! I totally guessed that somebody was alive when they were meant to be dead, I thought it from the moment I read the first book in the project Mayhem series just because it happened in the Men of Mercy series! So I kind of guessed he wasn’t going to be dead and really alive. Also, I can’t tell you the character because it’ll spoil.
The ending was really cute. I really enjoyed this series and I can’t wait for the next instalment. I am so glad I found this author and her stories because I am totally in love with them.
Mayhems Hero
Diggs is still suffering from the self imposed guilt he feels at letting down his team mates. He feels he let Quantum and Crenshaw down when he couldn’t save them. But he was lying near death himself but he just can’t see past his guilt. He also feels that his enhancement is bit of a non starter – being the teams bloodhound is not exactly earth shattering!
Audra is in a state of shock after the death of her brother. She needs to take care of his former K9 partner but he has been sent to their father instead. When she arrives she finds Trigger missing and she knows that he is at the mercy of the man who made her life a misery. But when she finds Trigger, she finds a huge man looming over him and snaps! Poor Diggs almost comes a cropper! He finally gets her to calm down and they return to the compound to save Trigger.
But all the military talk and their compound put Audra on edge and she makes off with her furry charge! But she soon finds herself in real danger and has to accept that she jumped from safety into the volcano!
Diggs is so down on himself – unusual in a such an evidently alpha man. But his esteem has really taken a knock and when he finds out something reprehensible about a former team mate – he falls deeper into his own personal hell! Audra is stubborn and determined but she did take a while to warm up to! She was so naive sometimes, especially when she flees the compound with Trigger, that I really wanted to slap her for being so dense!
There are a couple of surprises in store and they are HUUUGE! We realise that the mind games didn’t just stop at turning Mayhem into a killing machine. They truly mucked about with their brains.
This is book 3 of Operation Mayhem series and OMG I absolutely loved this book it was suspenseful, emotional and action packed with some really hot and sexy characters. Lindsay Cross her written another 5 star book she is absolutely one talented author with a great ability to keep you wanting more. The characters are strong, fearless, dependale, and honest, Team Mayhem as they call them self are just tring to get back on their feet after what they have gone through and still face dangerous obstacles. I loved Audra she was brave and strong while trying to find the truth about her brothers death. But to soon things take a turn for the worse and she doesn’t need anyone to save her. But she may be the one who is about to save someone, Trigger is her brothers three legged military dog and he needs someone and it will be her. Diggs is the fearless warrior who is just passing time till they find the man who betrayed them and take him down once and for all. When he comes in contact with Audra there is definitely a spark or two. Can two weary people find some happiness and survive the threats coming at them from different directions. All I can say is Wow what a great story and I most definitely reccommend it. A Must Read.
Audra has lost her brother in an IED explosion. She goes to her fathers to pick up his trunk and realizes they sent his partner, a bomb sniffing German shepherd, to her father too. She finds him and another man fighting over the dog. Her brother left her a message not to trust anyone in the military. She is going to avenge his death or die trying.
Diggs is one of the super soldiers with Team Mayhem. He thinks he’s the weakest of them and carries the guilt of his best friend dying and the other in a coma. When he is watching the monitors and sees a man beating a dog, he rushes out to save it. That’s when he meets Audra, the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen.
As they try to figure out the message Audra’s brother left, they have to hide from the General who wants them back.
This is my very favorite book in this series. I cried most of the way through. Plenty of action and several surprises thrown in too. I can’t wait for the rest of the series. Ms. Cross knows how to keep you coming back for more.
* I won this ebook in a contest and voluntarily read and reviewed it. *
**I received a copy of Mayhem’s Hero from the author and Foreward PR & Marketing in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**
Mayhem’s Hero is the third book by Lindsay Cross in her Operation Mayhem’s series. I would recommend reading them in order so that you get the full effect of the series background. I’ve said it before that Ms. Cross writes stories that are action packed and that you’re turning the page just to see what happens next.
The hero of this story is Diggs he believes that he doesn’t have any super powers like the rest of the team and he’s let them down. Little does he know that when he meets Audra who is trying to figure out why the government is not being honest on how exactly her brother died. When she finds her Dad is beating her brothers military war dog, Trigger and Diggs is willing to risk everything to save both Trigger and Audra. But when she leave the compound with the dog little does she know that that there is a possible connection between Audra, Trigger, Diggs and her late brother. Can Diggs save her in time when she’s kidnapped?
Audra hates the military as they took away the only person whom she loved but when she receives a cryptic final message from him she doesn’t know just how connected everything is to Mayhem. But she’s the one who will heal Diggs guilt with her love and Trigger will play a huge part in taking down the person who killed brother. When both Diggs and Trigger are injured during the climatic ending how will the Dr. Averton save them?
Every book that is written in this series truly has the phrase “Sit down, Shut up and hang on because it’s going to be another bumpy ride” and you will love this new addition. Will Reaper and the team be finally able to take down General before he can make more super soldiers? I can’t wait for next book Mayhem’s Hero is worth more than five stars.
I received this ARC in return for an honest review.
What can I say, Lindsay Cross’s Operation Mayhem Series is awesome. This installation being Mayhem’s Hero tells the story of Diggs, Audra and you can’t forget Trigger. Diggs always believed himself the weak link in Operation Mayhem, he also believes he’s responsible for the death of one teammate and the serious condition of another. His inaction causing the loss of both men. Diggs disobeys orders to rescue a dog being abused and in the process meets a beautiful woman hellbent on getting away from him and his team. Audra’s Brother was in the military and died under questionable circumstances. The day before her brother’s last mission, Audra received a video chat with her brother warning her that something wasn’t right with the mission he was going on and if something happened to him not to trust anyone but his mate and definitely not any military personnel. Audra finds herself on the run but gets the feeling she can trust Diggs but can she trust his teammates.
This series keeps getting better! Lindsay Cross weaves a tale full of action, suspense, emotion, and heart. Diggs is a hero that doesn’t clearly see what an asset he is to his team. Guilt has clouded his self image, but also made him determined to avenge and right wrongs. Audra is grieving and angry. She blames the military for her brother’s death and is determined to prove it. When Diggs and Audra’s paths cross they have no choice but to work together to save an injured dog. The compassion and concern by Diggs along with his sexy exterior call to Audra. These two fight to survive, fight to save Trigger, fight for one another, and ultimately fight for love! This book is fast paced, sexy, and thrilling. I can’t wait to read the next book and continue my adventure with Team Mayhem!
Mayhem’sHero is action packed and full of personal self doubt, traitors, military secrets, and espionage. It also has one of the best HEA endings. The main characters are so broken and trying to just make it through the day. Diggs has never felt worthy of family, friendship, or love. He planned to be single for the rest of his life because he had nothing to give anyone. The minute Audra walked into his life things changed for the both of them. You will not be able to put this one down. As always with a book by Lindsay Cross the richness of the characters and back story are amazing. You will feel their emotions and despair as well as their joy and happiness. Loved the way this one comes together
Mayhem’s Hero by Lindsay Cross
Operation Mayhem #3
Men who took an oath to honor and serve were hoodwinked into joining an experiment that left them in dire straits. This series deals with the men, finding a cure for their altered beings, getting revenge AND the women they end up falling in love with.
In this book Diggs meets his mate in Audra while he is saving her brother’s injured K-9 partner being abused by her father. Her brother was sent home in a coffin but Trigger managed to survive and was sent home to a fate almost worse than death. With Audra leery of all military men her encounter with the Mayhem team had her sneaking away as quickly as she could not realizing just what horrible options there were waiting for outside the Mayhem compound.
There is violence, animal abuse, military action, evil to thwart, trust to be won, love to be enjoyed and there are more men waiting their mates so more books to read in the near future. I will say that this book is more sci-fi fantasy in some ways because the men are super-men and this time Audra was capable of doing more than most after undergoing the ordeal she did. That is fine in a book like this because it is a fantasy more than a reality and fun without having to be based in reality.
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
