In this sizzling and suspenseful Operation Mayhem novel by USA Today Bestselling author, a soldier betrayed falls for the doctor who changed him.
He’s searching for revenge. She’s searching for redemption. The answer to their dilemma lies in each other… she’d helped create the serum that had not only enhanced their abilities, but tied them to a life of pain. She practically lived in her lab, testing and researching, spending every waking hour trying to undo the damage.
John Dawson lived for revenge.
His team had abandoned him, left in the hands of General Rainier to die. But he hadn’t died – he’d survived and thrived under the guidance of the General. Surrendering under the guise of needing his Team’s help, he infiltrated their secret lair, turning himself over for voluntary 24-hour observation. He’d play nice, pretend he was back and then…
The best laid plans.
Dawson didn’t count on the very sexy doctor monitoring him morning, noon and night. Poking. Prodding. Invading his dreams. Turning his plans inside out. His instinct to kill morphed into an undeniable need to protect and possess.
Melissa took one look at him and knew he needed her. Her heart beat fast. Her hands shook. She knew he was dangerous. The men of Mayhem had warned her. All her logic and all the evidence told her that Dawson was unsavable, but…this time she couldn’t rely on her brain, her heart was taking over.
Time was running out. She had to convince Dawson to trust not only his Team, but himself. Dawson had to see the truth, before he loses the one woman who can save him.

Great series!
Mayhem’s Betrayal by Lindsay Cross is an adrenaline filled rollercoaster of a story. This book is filled with angst, betrayal, suspense, fear, guilt, lack of trust, and love. You will not be able to put this one down and you will read it in one sitting. The attraction between Melissa and John is so wrong and yet so right. John was left behind because his team thought he was dead. Dr Rainier turned John into the perfect killing machine and he can’t remember what is truth and what is a lie. He wants to destroy his former team. Dr. Melissa is wracked with guilt over the damage that these men experienced at her hand but Melissa was duped by Rainier. If she doesn’t find and antidote to the serum everyone of them will die a horrible death.
This characters have become like family to me. Lindsay Cross has a unique talent in that she can keep the most convoluted storyline moving quickly along. Great book by a great author. You must try a Lindsay Cross book. You won’t be disappointed
The end of the last book had me eagerly awaiting this release to learn everything I could about John Dawson and how he would impact the team. I’m happy to say it was worth the wait! It’s a wonderful addition to the series. Melissa’s character has intrigued me from the beginning and I’m so happy that her story ended like it did. I love her spirit and determination to never give up against all odds. John Dawson came as such a good surprise! His character and storyline was beautifully written. Cross has once again woven a story that will keep you wanting more. It’s full of drama, suspense, and crazy chemistry! A must read in my opinion. If you haven’t read this series I would recommend moving it to the top of your list! 5+ stars!
Mayhem’s Betrayal by Lindsay Cross is an awesome read. It is book 5 in the Operation Mayhem series. This book had me laughing, crying, angry, wanting to hurt someone, . I had all the feels. This book has action, suspense, romance, revenge, redemption and more. The book is well written and has very likeable characters. I did not want to put the book down. I can’t wait for the next book by this amazing author. I highly recommend this book.
Mayhem’s Betrayal is the fifth book in the series and since it has an ongoing plotline, I recommend starting with the first book Mayhem’s Warrior. That is were we first met Dr. Melissa Averton. She has been working on a treatment for the soldiers who were part of the project. She has been putting their lives and needs before her’s because she feels somewhat responsible for their conditions no matter that she was used as well. The first soldier that she sees as more than a patient is John Dawson. She has always wanted to save these men but now her heart is involved as well. Dawson has had a difficult past with the team and he wants a place to belong again but he doesn’t know if he can trust his old team or the doctor. Mayhem’s Betrayal was another good addition to the series and as with all of the other books it was told from dual POV, loaded with plenty of heat and action. I recommend all of the books in this military romance series.
Sorry no spoilers of any kind because I’m not the type that does that.
So this is all I’m going to say about Mayhem’s Betrayal and that is I thought it was totally amazing.
Lindsay Cross definitely knows how to hook her readers and take them on an exciting ride.
So yes I most definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s interested in crawling into this story and getting lost within its pages.
*An ARC was provided by the author, publisher or a promotional service and I have chosen to publish a fair and honest review*
I have been with these men since the beginning and OMG, this ending tied it up nicely. John has been made to think his team left him and his team was led to believe he was dead. He has been kept in a cell in the mansion they have all been living in. Melissa is trying to find a cure for the serum the men were given. Her and John have undeniable connection like no other. She grows to care for him and wants to save not only the other team members, but John as well. All the men have trust issues. John doesn’t trust the team and the team doesn’t trust him. The only team member that John trusts is Quantum. I loved the friendship they have. I love the bond that John has with Q and Melissa. He has grown to care for her and trust her with his life. Will he and his team be able to trust each other again, or will the past keep rearing it’s ugly head? This is packed with suspense and some twists. You definitely need to pick this up. I have loved this series and all the characters I’ve met along the way. Lindsay did a fabulous job with these strong men and the women they have come to love.
I am always impressed by the writing ability of this author. She never fails to give a wonderful story to her readers. This book was exciting and suspenseful throughout the entire story. It had nice sexual tension between the hero and heroine. The suspense was built up and reached a very satisfying peak. I was very quickly drawn into the story and finished reading the entire book in a day and a half. That’s how good it was. I highly recommend this book.
An exciting romantic suspense
Melissa, a research scientist, is constantly around John, perceived betrayer and Mayhem altered soldier and prisoner, while working in her lab for a cure to the altered DNA of John and his team. As the story progresses secrets are kept, true feelings come out, and stating the truth may not be enough to save them all. Lindsay Cross’ Mayhem’s Betrayal is an exciting romantic suspense that brings the last member of the team a shoulder the rest on and possibly an answer to all their problems.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This fabulous book is fifth in the Operation Mayhem series and it features Dr. Melissa Averton and John Dawson. While she’s working day and night to find a cure, she now has Dawson in a locked glass room in her lab. He can’t be trusted but still suffers the side effects of the altered DNA and must have side effects treated daily. It’s heartbreaking to watch him suffer, just waiting to see if Melissa discovers a cure. These two spend a lot of time in the same area with a strong, inexplicable force that keeps pulling them together. It’s so nice to see her let go a little and be a normal woman with normal needs.
This story has a fantastic action and suspense! All the characters are amazing and character growth, in this book especially, is tremendous! I’m definitely looking forward to the next book!
Another exciting addition to this series that’s part science fiction and all Alpha male and the women who love them. You can expect lots of emotion, simmering desire and a storyline that ebbs and flows like a crooked mountain stream. Just when you think you know what’s going on the author surprises you with a twist you weren’t expecting and that’s always a bonus in my reading experience. I wish there had been more action and less day-by-day updates which would have made this a 5 star read, but it’s one you don’t want to miss if you’ve read the first 4 books in this series. I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
Mayhem’s Betrayal: Operation Mayhem book5 by Lindsay Cross is a 5 star read.
When you get a Lindsay Cross book you are guaranteed an amazing story with characters who you feel like you know personally, I highly recommend any book written by this author.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest opinion.
John feels his team left him to die while his team thinks he turned on them and sided with their enemy. He has been brought back to the Mayhem Compound(it’s really a Mansion) but is really being held more as a prisoner as the team wants to know what the General is up to. He has other problems though, the last injection the General gave him almost killed him and he is now having serious medical issues such as seizures and migraines.
Melissa is a Scientist and all she wants to do is develop a remedy to help these Men of Mayhem lead normal lives again. They didn’t ask to be experimented on, to be turned into Super Soldiers. She is so dedicated but working on the Serum and taking care of John is really putting her on edge. If she doesn’t figure something out, he may die.
Melissa has had a few relationships but nothing really serious. Men always thought of her as a Brain, not a woman. Since John’s room is located off her lab they do interact quite a bit, plus she has to be able to monitor him. John thinks she is as beautiful as she is smart. They are very attracted to one another.
Will Melissa find a Serum to help the men and save John? Will the Men of Mayhem ever be able to trust each other again? Will John and Melissa ever be together? Will the General finally be stopped?
I loved this story! As soon as I started reading it, it drew me right in. It is part of a series but can be read as a standalone story. Enough backstory is given so the reader doesn’t feel like they walked into the middle of a story.
Ms Cross is such a good writer. Her story just flows, the characters are well developed. The true test of a writer is when you can feel the characters happiness, sorrow and anguish!
The ending had several twists and turns and I couldn’t read fast enough! This book is awesome and I recommend.
Wow! This had me on the edge of my seat, I just could not put it down! As with the previous books there’s action, danger, suspense and let’s not forget love! This is John and Melissa’s story and it’s @ fab addition to this series. Totally on a rollercoaster of emotions, betrayal, anger and revenge, will they get a hea? I recommend that you start with book one and find out, it will be so worth it!
John Dawson has a solitary objective retribution, against the team who seemingly betrayed him. Dr. Melissa Averton never envisioned that the serum she created would have devastating results. She now commits herself to undoing the damage that occured. Proximity awakens in Melissa and John feelings unexpected and intense. I enjoyed this story as much as the previous books in the series, which I strongly recommend be read in order. A good mix of drama, intrigue, danger, redemption and love.
When Dr.Melissa Everton is working herself to death trying to find a cure for the he’ll the men of Manheim are going through. She feels guilty because she was lies to by General Ranier told that she would help the soldiers to be better warriors but when she realized it was all a lie she vowed to find a cure to save them.John Dawson is angry he feels his team left him to ensure whatever the General wanted to do to him. They thought he was dead.John wants Melissa for his woman the chemistry between them is off the charts smoking hot. There are so many twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the very last page and leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel their emotions and their pain.I can hardly wait to see what’s next by this multi talented author.
I absolutely loved this story! It’s raw, gritty and emotional! John and Melissa’s story is full of so many twists and turns. This is a story of betrayal. Betrayal so deep that it can’t be overcome. Or can it? What the mind perceives may not be what is true in reality. This story had me on the edge of seat the entire book! I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with each turn of the page. I was definitely cheering for John to see the truth and for Melissa to find some happiness. But can they see past the past to figure out the future? Great book!!
We get to learn more about John Dawson and what happened to him because of General Rainier. What happened that he attacked his own team? What a-ha moment does Melissa think she has after doing a test with her own blood? Where is Rainier, who is he working with now, and where are they from? What is he anticipating? Oh, this story kept me on the edge of my seat! Read and see what happens! OH MY GOSH!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin’ With M. Brennan.
Melissa is the doctor looking after Riser’s team members who were used as experiments by Rainer. Currently her main patient is John Dawson, a stunningly handsome man. He is needing more and more of the serum but his time is running out. Melissa needs to find a cure as soon as humanly possible. There is an obvious attraction between these two which is very hard to contain. Another great story by this author.
Another great book from Ms.Cross that had me reading way into the night.I loved Johns character and his relationship with Melissa as she searches for the cure to save him and the team.Suspense, action and romance made a great paced, can’t put the book down read.
