Two best friends. Ten Christmases. One happy ending. When best friends Alexandra and Lucas share a first kiss on Christmas night their senior year of high school, it feels like the best years of their lives are ahead of them. Then Alex goes off to college, and Lucas stays behind to work at his dad’s construction business in the small beach town where they grew up. Life, as they say, happens. And … say, happens. And somewhere along the way these two high school sweethearts find they don’t have as much in common as they once did.
Lucas’s life is on Beaufort Island, and Alex is all about getting away and moving on. So he makes one of the hardest decisions of his life and lets her go.
But every year when Alex comes home for the holidays, fate conspires to reunite the two former lovebirds on Christmas Day. Year after year, through good times and bad, Lucas and Alex meet up, catch up, and reconnect on the anniversary of their first kiss.
Is it too much to hope that one year they’ll find their way back to each other permanently?
Maybe even this Christmas.

Christmas is only two months away and this perfect novella Maybe This Christmas by Susannah Nix will bring you warmth, joy, and sweetness for the upcoming season!
Alexandra and Lucas were both from the same small town, went to school together and became best friends during high school. Before their graduation, on a fateful Christmas night, they decided to take their friendship a step further. But as Alex moved away for college and experienced her new life, Lucas stayed behind, excitedly waiting for their reunion during her school break. The physical distance, the differences in their life priorities had slowly drifted them apart. Brokenhearted, Lucas had no choice but to let her go…
Every following Christmases, as Alex was learning more about herself and going through life challenges, they both realized they could not move on, that they were the anchor in each other’s life, and nothing could shake the strong foundation of their friendship.
This story truly reflects the process of growing up, the phases one goes through in life, learning their priorities through experiences, and appreciating the important relationships that keep them grounded. It’s a 5-starred read, beautifully written, heartwarming, sweet, light, and touching. I really enjoyed it so much and would highly recommend it!

I always love Susannah Nix’s writing and her characters are always amazing no matter what she writes! Here comes a short novel about two best friends that over 10 Christmas days go from best friends, to significant others, back to maybe friends? All you see is that specific day of their life each year and how they grow close/apart but especially you get to see how they grow and become adults and what they go through in their quest! I love Alex and I adore Lucas and you will too as soon as you start knowing them. Dive in, you’re in for a treat!
NO SPOILERS Maybe This Christmas is a story about Alex and Lucas and the the 9 years of Christmas that lead them to finally finding themselves and what is truly meant for their lives together as friends and maybe more. Their story starts out Dec 25 2010 with their first kiss after being friends for all their lives then after that we get a snapshot every Christmas as what is happening with Alex being away at college and Lucas working with his dad. Their story takes many twist and turns thru the years each of them being with different people but with Alex finally figuring out that she wants to be back home and Lucas knowing that he still loves Alex will 2019 be their last Christmas apart. Love how this book so each one growing up and figuring out themselves and fate always wins.

While I enjoyed the way the author wrote the story of Lucas and Alex, 10 chapters covering 10 Christmases, the story felt lacking. You almost need a full length novel to be able to cover that much ground well. Only getting a snippet of each Christmas, you miss out on so much. Lucas and Alex go from best friends to lovers to exes to friends to lovers again with a bunch of angst on both sides.

I have read all 4 of Susannah Nix’s “Chemistry Lessons/STEM” series romantic comedies – and I loved all of them. So, I was excited to read this Christmas novella. It’ very good – evoking many emotions – and very sweet. I knew it was short, but it’s a quick read – which was a little disappointing. The book does not end on a cliffhanger, but I really wanted more “in between” stuff – more with Alex & Lucas, and definitely more about their friends. Although maybe there will be more stories? Overall, totally worth $0.99.
I’m not sure if this is the place to reveal it but I’m normally not very fond of Christmas. This little gem of a book is still making my heart burst with happiness, melancholy and sadness, then straight back to joy. It’s not the typical love story but it’s perfect, sweet and tender.
From High school sweethearts, then life happens and circumstances force them apart. Are they going to make it a second time around? Time will show, it certainly has a way of throwing them together on their anniversary.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and now I’m eagerly awaiting Susannah’s next story. I’m happily making this novella one of my new Christmas traditions.
Maybe this Christmas…they’ll finally get it right!
This is an absolute gem of a story – a sweet second-chance, friends-to-lovers romance spanning a decade!
Alexandra and Lucas were friends FOREVER. Best friends! At the beginning of the story, we meet them over the Christmas holiday of their senior year of high school. Over the course of this heart-warming tale, their relationship evolves into high school sweethearts, to estranged friends, and ultimately to the HEA you just KNEW they could get to if they could just get onto the same page!
The format of this novella is just perfect, each chapter shows us the events of a Christmas one year after the last, and focuses on the viewpoint of either Alex or Lucas. I found this just brilliant, as you can see over time the way they evolve and grow as individuals as they slowly find their way back to each other (although it didn’t feel slow at ALL as you’re reading it; I read it all in one sitting as these two just grabbed me and dragged me into their story from the first word).
This book is just what you need to jump start your holiday spirit and ALL the good feels! A stand-alone novella that will leave you wanting for nothing and engaged until the final words, we get the perfect natural ending to this couple’s journey with no cliffhangers. Susannah Nix has quickly become one of my FAVORITE authors, and this book definitely lived up to my expectations. https://www.susannahnix.com/
