An absolute must read!!
Maybe Later is an absolutely charming romance. It’s witty, fun, emotional, and completely engaging from start to finish. It’s the story of two people who don’t trust easily and both are pretending to be someone else. The truth of them lies somewhere in the middle of what they show to the world and what they give to each other under the anonymity provided by email and text messaging. From the beginning, I was sure I knew exactly where this one was going, where the relationship angst would come from, but the author took me completely by surprise and went in a different direction. It’s a slow burn romance, but the pacing doesn’t feel slow at all. At the same time, nothing feels rushed or forced, and the timing is about as perfect as it gets. The characters are interesting and lovable, the banter is witty and often hilarious, and the romance is heartfelt and sexy. This may be my first read by this author, but it certainly won’t be my last.
I’m in love with love stories that explore other tropes. Falling in heavy like via email or text messaging sounds like something I could really get behind. Maybe it’s because it can go either way… the people behind the screens could be completely truthful… or be hiding so much more than just their appearances. In this book, Jackson and Amy were those people.
Jackson was a successful and reclusive CEO. He didn’t do well with people. He trusted very few and newbies didn’t stand a chance. So when his assistant goes on mat leave, she hires him a virtual assistant. Someone who could handle all of his professional needs. Someone who could anticipate what he needed and even what he didn’t know he did. However, he finds her extremely unprofessional. She gets too personal, when he doesn’t like to share. She judges him for his behavior and choices and she ends each email with an inspirational quote. Who does she think she is?
I found Jackson and Amy to be more alike than I at first believed. They were both hiding. They both found it difficult to let someone else in. They were both infinitely curious about the other. Their eventual relationship was everything that I could have hoped for and the author ended up giving me something sweet to love. I wanted to hug these characters and softly encourage them to come out of their shells. I was thrilled with how good-hearted they were and what they each brought to the table. Neither one of them was weak despite their vulnerabilities and their sensitivity only made me love them more.
If you’re a fan of romance for romance’s sake, you’ll fall in love with these characters and their story too!
4 Star Review of Maybe Later by Claudia Y Burgoa
Claudia Burgoa is a new author to me and I have no idea why that is.
Well what can I say about Jackson Spearman? He may be a billionaire and a savvy businessmen but when it comes to common sense and change, he hasn’t a clue. When his assistant goes on maternity leave, he has no choice but to accept the assistance of a virtual assistant, Amy Walker.
Amy is a strong, independent and highly capable woman who isn’t afraid to stand her ground and fight for what she wants; I loved her feisty manner and determination. Amy has no problem standing up to the reclusive Jackson and these interactions certainly made for an entertaining read.
This was a story that pushed the buttons and was engaging. Not all goes to plan for either Jackson or Amy and it is this that makes Maybe Later so interesting.
Even though they appear to dislike one another the attraction still burns brightly. Will Jackson and Amy learn to trust each other and take a chance or is their attraction doomed to fizzle? Will the past destroy their change of happiness?
One click an find out.
Maybe Later blends multiple tropes to deliver a delicious slow burn romance that flowed well. The main characters are complex, well developed, and flawed just enough to have me wanting to toss my device out the window a few times… which is the fun part of reading romance. Snarky humor reeled me in and the chemistry, mystery, and slight angst kept me glued to my device. The side characters were developed enough to leave me wondering about their own stories and hoping that we haven’t heard the last of Jackson’s family. Who knows? A reader can hope and ask, “Maybe Later?”.
*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Fun to Read & Delightfully Yummy!!
It was an instant catch for me!! They are both very witty and full of banter!!
I enjoy reading books like these because of the slow burn and the way the story flows through.
It’s like I’m there watching them through the looking glass.
Amy is the temporary virtual assistant to the most demanding man in the universe Mr. J. Spearman..through their introduction you see how they both one-up each other in every way. All I can say is that this book is an A on my gradebook!!
MG Claudia Burgoa wrote her first rom/com and didn’t make me cry! If you’ve ever read a Claudia Burgoa book, you will understand this statement, if this is your first read, well you will not be disappointed.
The banter between the H/H via email and texts were hysterical. The push/up between these two, I couldn’t put this book down.
This book to me is a modern day version of “You Got Mail” but with snark!
I loved this book and already miss the H/H.
The book begins with a series of emails between an overbearing CEO, and his temporary virtual assistant covering for Jackson’s assistant who is out on maternity leave.
The back and forth was hilarious, as she slowly but surely worked her magic on him. But along the way, they began to have feelings for each other, all while holding back personal information due to trust issues.
I’ve never seen a character like her. She constantly spars with him (he wants a Reuben sandwich for lunch, she sends him sushi), she sends a daily quote, and the she starts sending him daily music playlists. And she is smart, scary smart, with so many connections she seems like a magician finding solutions.
He starts out as “impatient, aggressive, micromanaging, and somewhat of a social pariah.” Three months of working with her completely changes him. I loved watching how she slowly helped him become a better person.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my review.
5* Romantically Funny Stars
I absolutely loved the story of Jackson and Amy. The book starts off with Jackson Spearman, who is a very moody billionaire businessman and Amy Walker who is his new virtual assistant texting and emailing each other over a secure server.
The banter between the two main characters was hilarious and I had many laugh out loud moments. I loved how sassy Amy was and how she managed to get away with it when conversing with the reclusive Jackson.
As funny as the slow burn romance was the story had some angst to it too. Both the characters were dealing with issues in their lives that greatly affected their outlook on life.
Claudia has written a refreshing and fun read that I highly recommend and the ending to the story was perfect.
His new assistant is virtual who works remotely and he’s not happy, she’s intrusive.
Her new boss is like a petulant child, refusing to answer questions in order to help her assist him better.
They both have to work together, is there any way they can forge a friendship or call a truce ..?
This was a refreshing read with a new slant on a boss and employee reletionship.
I enjoyed the drip fed background, and was dying to know his name through the first few chapters. I was almost begging for it at one point.
The characters are very similar yet for different reasons, and watching them bond and grow was a fantastic experience.
She lives and breathes her virtual assistant position with no real social life. She’s a true helper. Job satisfaction means everything to her.
He has secrets, and is very cagey about any personal information. He’s been burned and is therefor very cautious.
The further I got into this book the more engrossed I became in their lives and relationships. They fascinated me.
Another enjoyable read from this author that I think both new and old fans alike will thoroughly enjoy.
Thank you Claudia Burgoa. Thank you for writing a different and amazing story just touched my heart so deeply. Thank you for reminding me about the beauty of falling in love with best friend. This motivating and emotional story with all it’s lighthearted fun and sometimes serious philosophy has won me over. Completely.
Jackson Spearman is the most difficult and overbearing boss on the earth. He is demanding, arrogant bordering on rude and has serious trust issues. And he is stuck with Virtual Assistant Amy Walker as his assistant is on maternity leave. Amy doesn’t take any shit from him. She is smart, witty and very efficient. Their interactions were HILARIOUS. I am warning you not to read it in public place unless you want to make a fool of yourself by laughing out loud repeatedly. Their back and forth banter soon extends to topics not related to work. They start bonding over texts, book recs and life in general. Then Jackson meets a girl and Amy meets a guy in real life. They are attracted to the real life people like magnets. Now that’s complicated and confusing. How can you fall in love with a real person yet feel a part of heart belongs to your virtual partner? Things are about to get very serious.
The story is a perfect romantic comedy with a twist. The idea is original and refreshing. You will never guess what is coming. It was a page turner and unputdownable There is some big secret that you can keep on guessing but will not be revealed till the end. The storyline was brilliant. It was very unconventional but I loved it so much. The rollercoaster of emotions was so good. The characters were brilliantly written. Amy is so accomplished in her life but has a big load of insecurities. She is helping people and has a heart of gold. But she is lonely and heartbroken. Jackson was betrayed by his ex wife and he is still nursing his wound. But Amy is breaking the walls. Jackson is challenging Amy that she can’t resist. The evolution of the characters were fascinating. And I loved the ending.
I am in love with Claudia Burgoa’s writing. She poured so much feelings in this story effortlessly. The witty banter and the angsty emotions were balanced perfectly. I was lost in the pages.l am so overwhelmed with all the emotions but I won’t change a second of it!
Received ARC for honest review
Oh there was never going to be a time when I resisted this book.
He’s practically a recluse.
SOLD.
Maybe Later stars our gruff, billionaire boss Jackson and Amy, his sarcastic, temporary virtual assistant. A big chunk of the story is told through emails and instant messages – I love seeing our characters develop a relationship without even meeting in person.
But there’s a twist, and it brings up the question: who are we, really?
Both Jackson and Amy have troubled pasts that are standing in the way of their future. It was complex, and honestly a little confusing, but in a way that didn’t feel obtuse. Maybe Later is a well paced book with a great plot and characters that hooked me from the start.
Yet again, I say…this is just one of the million things I love about blogging. New to me authors! Claudia Burgoa, who I had the honor to meet last fall, is a new to me author and I am amazed with her story!
Maybe Later is a story about two people, who have created different personas for different reasons.
What starts as a business relationship develops in to a grudging friendship and then more.
I loved the banter between the two main characters, I don’t want to name them because each “name” gives away too much.
I loved how each “name” had different characteristics of the same person. What they wanted the world to see and what they only show to people they trust. And for the both of them trust doesn’t come easy.
This is a slow burn, but I think their friendship builds so much more for them. It was agonizing to see how they were falling for who they thought was one person but wishing it was the other.
This sounds complex and confusing, I know, but when you read this story it will unfold beautifully and with just the right timing.
I was so happy with how this ended, it wasn’t rushed, it wasn’t pushed, it came together at just the right time!
I can’t wait to add Ms. Burgoa’s other stories onto my TBR list. I am so glad I got the opportunity to read and review this story!
It was the most bizarre romance book that I’ve ever read but thoroughly captivating.
I couldn’t put it down.
What a genius idea to base the romance/book on the emails.
Look forward to reading more books by Ms. Burgoa.
This book was like nothing I have ever read before. What a great story line – very creative. Loved the characters. Storyline had a nice flow to it
Billionaire Jackson Spearman is impatient, demanding, and private. He’s practically a recluse. When his assistant goes on maternity leave, Amy Walker virtual assistant extraordinaire arrives to save the day. Unfortunately I just couldn’t get into this book, it was slow and I was over the constant email conversations that seem to go on forever causing me to lose interest.
I loved this story! The banter between these two characters, one who goes by a different name, and the other who has nothing of himself on the internet. They start off with bantering and it never stops! Watch how their relationship evolves through the months, and get ready to giggle a lot! 5 stars for this one!
DNF
It was not for me. It begins with emails back and forth. Then messages. I know that is typical of this day and age but I want more than simples messages between two people.
It was not my cup of tea. Stopped after chapter 4.
This was such a sweet, ultra sexy, and intriguing story. I was sucked in from the beginning and listening to the audio was even better because the narrators just brought the characters to life. I laughed, may have cried, I swooned, and I practically listened to this all the way through.
I loved this book. It is so much fun to read. I read all the sequels as well. But this one stands alone. Wonderful don’t miss it.
